1 Fargo Open Rules and Regulations [Modified EBI Rules] Ways a Match can be Won: Win via Submission victory within regulation time. Win in Overtime: victory by submission, fastest submission time, or fastest escape time. Win by opponent disqualification. Win via opponent forfeiture. Submission is based upon physical tapping, a verbal tap, or yelling during a submission attempt. If an opponent must have the match stopped for any injury related incident or any other reason beyond control that does not warrant any disqualifications, the opponent will have 5 mins to return to the match or they will have to forfeit the match. MATCH TIME LIMITS Adult Regulation time: 10 Min Matches at all skill levels. Teen Regulation time: 8 min matches at all skill levels Youth regulation time: 4 min matches at all skill levels. Overtime time limits: there is no time limit in overtime rounds. Time will run until an escape or submission is obtained. See Overtime rules below for more details. OVERTIME RULES: Any match whose regulation time ends without a submission immediately moves into Overtime with no break or time outs. Any competitor who cannot answer the call to immediately participate in the overtime round will be disqualified. In Overtime, competitors may choose between 2 dead zone positions described below. 1. The Arm Bar position. Each position must have arms hooked, crook of elbow to crook of elbow. The opponent defending the position may have their arms in any defense configuration they desire. 2. Back Control with Seatbelt Grip Competitors will begin in a seated back control position upright with both hooks and a seat belt grip. The opponent may have their hands in place on the seat belt grip and chin tucked before ref begins the round. Once round begins the body triangle may be applied but not before. Submission Shootout During the overtime rounds opponents are trying to submit or escape as fast as possible. Both opponents will have a chance to submit their opponent from the dead zone of their choosing. The opponent who obtains a submission wins the match, or in the case of 2 submissions the fastest submission wins the match. In the event of no Submissions, another round will ensue if again no submissions, the fastest combined escape time wins.

2 Uniform Requirements: No-Gi Uniform requirments: Shorts, Spats, or combination of shorts and spats, and Rash guard. No Cups, No Gi Pants. Shorts must have no zippers or pockets and must reach at least half way down the thigh. Spats may be worn alone or under shorts. Spats are permitted but must be of "rash guard like" material with no rips or tears. Athletes must wear undergarments. The use of thong-type undergarments is not permitted; only brief-type undergarments may be worn. Rash Guards: Athletes must wear a rash guard, short or long sleeve. Rash guards must be long enough to cover the waist band of shorts. GI Uniform Requirements: Standard Grappling style Gi/Kimono's of any color are permitted. Belt worn must be of the competitors earned rank/unofficial equivalent. Uniforms must be free of any holes or tears and securely fastened. The use of thong-type undergarments is not permitted; only brief-type undergarments may be worn. No Cups are permitted. The GI top should reach the athlete s thigh and the sleeves should come to where a wrist watch would sit on an athlete s wrist when the arm is extended straight parallel to the ground. GI pants should reach to slightly above the Ankle bone. Under the Gi top competitors may wear rash guards, however t-shirts are not permitted. Females are required to wear a rash guard type top underneath their Gi top. Pulling Guard Rules Pulling Guard (Legal Technique All Skill Levels) - You are pulling your opponent down to the ground into your guard. Pulling guard requires one opponent to make contact with the other. A grip must be established on any part of the competitor prior to pulling their opponent down to the ground into their guard. Sitting disengaged to the guard is not permitted. Butt scooting is not permitted. You must attempt to take your opponent to the ground or pull them to the ground. Butt scooting will be stood back up immediately. Slamming Slamming is not permitted however the slam is respected. If an opponent is lifted into the air above the waist line for a period of 5 seconds, the competitors will be reset in a neutral standing position. [Example: Opponent A. is caught in a triangle and lifts opponent B. into the air and keeps the opponents full body above his waist line for 5 seconds the match will reset. However, if opponent B drops reaches for the leg and/or his upper body is hanging below the waist or touching the ground the match is still active.] *** Referee s discretion and decisions are final. Verbal abuse of a ref will result in competitor disqualification. Sustained verbal abuse or ANY physical abuse of a ref will result in entire Team disqualification including forfeit of any prizes/placings won to that point without refund.

3 Official and Unofficial Belt/Skill Rank Structure OFFICIAL RANK Awarded by an accredited/recognized BJJ Instructor. Youth Official Rank: White Belt Gray Belt Yellow Belt Orange Belt Green Belt Unofficial Rank Equivalent: Under 1 year of experience Under 18 months of experience 18 months - 3 years of experience 3-5 years of experience 5+ years of experience Adults Official Rank: White Belt Blue Belt Purple Belt Brown Belt Black Belt Unofficial Rank Equivalent: 0-3 years of experience 4-7 years of experience 8-11 years experience years experience 16 years + experience *** Rank discrepancies will be decided using time/experience. *** In GI competition Competitor MUST wear equivalent belt rank of their Grappling experience.
