Intended use The Evo Solid Downtube is intended exclusively for use with an Evo shearing plant and Icon mechanical handpiece for use on sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas and other members of the camel family. Safety Notice All persons undertaking work on or with this machine have an obligation to read this manual. This manual must be kept safely and accessible at all times. Operating this machine safely only makes small demands of the operator. However, it is essential that they are observed and carried out. This EVO Solid Downtube has external moving parts. All unauthorised persons must be excluded from the area directly around the EVO Solid Downtube when in operation. All malfunctions should be reported immediately. Read and understand all instructions before use. Do not allow any unauthorised adjustments or use. Do not operate the EVO Solid Downtube contrary to instructions. Contact manufacturer before making any adjustments/repairs. Do not attempt any adjustments to the EVO Solid Downtube while motor is running. Serious injury may result from misuse or not operating as per instruction manual. 3 This symbol, together with its number, refers to the relevant illustration at the end of the manual. Warning Indicates a potentially dangerous situation. Take preventative action. Note Note, non-compliance can lead to operating malfunctions or damage. 4. Guarantee Heiniger Australia guarantees the EVO Solid Downtube manufactured by them to be free from defect in workmanship and materials. Their obligations pursuant to this guarantee are limited to the repair or replacement of parts and workmanship, which proves defective within the specified period. The repair or replacement shall be affected upon the defective equipment being returned freight pre-paid to the registered office of Heiniger Australia or Heiniger New Zealand. 4.1 Guarantee period & conditions: 12 months from the date of delivery This guarantee will be invalidated for any of the following reasons: If notice of the defect is not given to Heiniger within the guarantee period. If the EVO Solid Downtube has been subject to misuse, abuse, negligence or accident. If the EVO Solid Downtube is installed, maintained or operated in any manner other than that for which it is designed. If the EVO Solid Downtube is used for any duty or subjected to any abnormal operating conditions varying from that for which it is supplied by Heiniger. If the warranty card has not been filled in and returned to Heiniger Australia within 7 days of delivery. 5. Assembly 6.1 Remove the EVO Solid Downtube from the tube and plastic covering. 6.2 Remove the cog ( ) from the end of the joint spindle ( ) coming from the long tube. 6.3 Slide the joint piece outer ( ) over the joint spindle ( ) coming from the long tube, replace and tighten the cog ( ). 6.4 Tighten the ferrule ( ) onto the joint piece outer ( ). 6.5 Insert the plant connecting sleeve ( ) into the shearing plant with the clamp button ( ) pressed in. Stop and start the motor until the drive shaft coupling ( ) engages into the motor drive. Align the clamp button ( ) with the hole in the plant and it will pop out into the hole in the plant. 6.6 Oil all 5 oil holes and cogs generously. Note: If the clamp button does not locate in the button hole of the plant, remove the downtube and lightly tap the drive shaft coupling down. Try process 6.5 again. 4 Your EVO Solid Downtube is set to a specified length do not adjust the length of the spring ( ). If you do, see section 9 below at point 18 adjusting the length of down tube. 7. Operating instructions All persons undertaking work on or with this EVO Solid Downtube have an obligation to read these instructions. The operating instructions must be kept safely and accessible at all times. These instructions must be read and understood fully before operating the machine. Take particular notice of the notes that form part of these instructions. Damage caused by failure to do so will not be covered by warranty. Ensure the EVO Solid Downtube is correctly attached to the plant (see 6.5) Ensure the EVO Solid Downtube is well oiled (see 6.6)(see 8.) Ensure you have the correct fitting in your handpiece to suit the worm drive fitting ( ). Note: All unauthorised persons must be excluded from the area directly around the EVO Solid Downtube when in operation. 8. Maintenance Oil the five oil holes and cogs hourly. 9. Replacing the long core 1. Press the clamp button ( ) in and remove the EVO Solid Downtube from the plant. 2. Unscrew the ferrule ( ) 3. Remove the cog ( ) from the end of the long core spindle ( ) 4. Remove the nut and bolt from the top spring clamp 5. Remove the spring and the long tube together 6. Remove the circlip ( ) 7. Remove the clamp with button ( ) 8. Press what s left of the long core ( ), the bearing and drive shaft coupling out the top of the plant connecting sleeve assembly ( ). 9. Unscrew the long core spindle ( ) from what s left of the long core ( ). 10. Screw the spindle ( ) onto the end of the new long core ( ). 11. Oil the full length of the new long core ( ) and put it, spindle ( ) first through the plant connecting sleeve assembly ( ) pushing the outer housing of the bearing onto the circlip ( ) inside the plant connecting sleeve assembly ( ). 12. Replace the clamp with button ( ) and circlip ( ) 13. Slide the spring and the long tube together over the long core 14. Place the ferrule on the long tube ( ) 15. Slide the joint piece outer ( ) over the tube joint spindle ( ) coming from the long tube, replace and tighten the cog ( ). 16. Tighten the ferrule ( ) onto the joint piece outer ( ). 17. Connect the EVO Solid Downtube to the plant 18. Adjust the length of the long tube and spring by lifting the spring and the long tube together 20mm into the plant connecting sleeve assembly ( ) then tighten the top spring clamp. 19. Oil all 5 oil holes and cogs generously. 10. Replacing the bearings in the back joint. Introduction. This is not difficult to do when using a Special Tool Kit. (illus 1.) It is very important not to rush, pull everything apart and throw away the old bearings. Clean up the remaining parts and fit the new ones carefully, taking note of the important points listed below, read the instructions. F0193 Evo Solid Downtube Manual Page 4 of 7 25/09/2006

5 The bearings in the back joint are small and the balls in them are delicate, each time you go to hit the bearing think first The force of the hit must never travel through the balls. When you are fitting bearings to the back joint hit the outer rim of the bearing only. (illus 2.) If you do hit the wrong rim or the seal of the bearing it will distort the balls. Do not use this bearing, it will run hot and wear quickly. Throw it away and use a new bearing. Never reuse old bearings, the bearings will have been damaged during removal. Always replace both bearings in the back joint. Do not use a steel hammer as this will jar and damage the tools and bearings. Use a nylon hammer or a piece of wood. Use a Special Tool Kit, they are not expensive and will last a lifetime. Use a small piece of hard wood to work on as a bench Remove the short tube from the downtube Unscrew the bottom tube joint spindle from the cog and remove from the back joint Unscrew the ferrule from the top of the back joint and slide back, unscrew the top joint spindle from the cog and pull the back joint away from the downtube Remove the back joint spring and caps. The back half joints will now come apart Slide the punch C through the back half joint at the threaded end and holding the back half joint in your hand gently hit the punch to knock out the old bearing. (illus 3.) Clean the back half joint thoroughly Place the back half joint thread down on a piece of wood, gently tap the new bearing into place using tool A (illus 4.) 10.7 Repeat this process with the other back half joint Reassemble the back joint using new grease in the caps Reassemble the downtube oiling the joint spindles and cogs.
