2 Chicago Region Would Like to Congratulate our 2006 Triple Crown Winners: Niki Coello in Formula Continental Mark Mercer in S2000 Hans Peter in C Sports Racer Niki joins Brad Stout as the only back-to-back Triple Crown winners in the six-year history of the award! Niki, Mark, and Hans accomplished something that 21 other 2006 June Sprints champions did not: win their Division Points Championship, and win an SCCA National Championship. They join some elite company: Year Class Name Division 2001 FV Brad Stout MidDiv 2002 GT3 Mike Cyphert CenDiv 2002 FV Brad Stout MidDiv 2003 AS John Heinricy CenDiv Past Triple Crown Champions Year Class Name Division 2004 S2000 John Fergus CenDiv 2004 FC Brian Tomasi CenDiv 2005 FV Brad Stout MidDiv 2005 FC Niki Coello CenDiv For 2007, another group of June Sprints champions will make a run at winning the most difficult trophy in Amateur Road Racing. Do you think you have what it takes to run with the fastest drivers in the Nation? About the SCCA Triple Crown The SCCA Triple Crown was a coveted accomplishment long before it became a formal award. To earn this award, a competitor must win his/her class in each of the following challenges: The June Sprints ; their home division s national points championship; and, The SCCA National Championship at the Runoffs. Chicago Region, SCCA, developed the SCCA Triple Crown as a formal concept and award. Its development was inspired by televised driver interviews from the Runoffs several years ago. Drivers consistently commented that if they could win only two races in their amateur racing career, the races would be the June Sprints and the Runoffs. That got us thinking not only about these two events, but also about the state and health of club racing in general. We wanted to tie the Sprints and Runoffs together somehow, but that addressed only two events in club racing, it didn t tell the entire club racing picture: the continued support of national race events in each of the divisions. So we looked at parallels in other competitive venues and the natural one was the Triple Crown in Horse Racing. We ran some statistics from the past few years to determine how many drivers would have won the Triple Crown had it been a formal program. The answer came back as very few. This told us that winning all three titles in one race season is difficult, something to strive for, and a title worthy of the successes of the competitors.

3 Dear Competitor; 2007 The 52 nd Consecutive Running It s Not Just Another Race TM It is my pleasure to invite you to participate in the 52 nd consecutive running of the June Sprints. We are once again making every effort to provide you with an outstanding racing experience. All of the elements that have made the Sprints a favorite for years will again be in place, including the fantastic Road America facility, enthusiastic fans, a strong contingency program, and intense competition. Some things to be aware of for 2007: One thing that won t be in place this year is the Billy Mitchell Bridge. It s gone replaced by the new Kohler Tunnel under the track between turns 13 and 14. The removal of the bridge creates a new spectator viewing area, not to mention a different view for drivers coming out of Thunder Valley. The tunnel will also provide easier paddock access, but please watch for possible changes to the traffic flow from registration into the paddock. This year, you have the option of registering online via the website. We strongly encourage you to register online, as it should make life easier for you and for our Registration and Timing & Scoring staff. The DLB system is quickly gaining acceptance around the country, so once you ve entered your information into the system, registering for other races will be quick and easy. As an added incentive, you ll save $20 on your entry fee by registering online. By popular vote of surveyed competitors, and in an effort to ensure the fairest possible competition, we are expanding the spec fuel program in 2007 to include the FC, FF, FV, SRF, and FE classes. Please see the supplemental regulations for details. We are facing an ever-increasing shortage of volunteers at our club races. If you, or any of your crew members, friends, or family would be interested in helping out during the Sprints, or any other Chicago Region race weekend, even for just a few hours, please stop by registration and let them know you would like to help. We ll find something fun to do. Please remember that all drivers and crew are welcome at our Friday night party in the Road America Center. Finally, we are very pleased to welcome Piggly Wiggly as the new title sponsor for the June Sprints. We look forward to a long and successful relationship between Chicago Region, Road America, and Piggly Wiggly, and we encourage you to Shop the Pig whenever you can, including any of the 14 stores located within 25 miles of Road America. We look forward to seeing you at the 2007 June Sprints! Sincerely, Tom Maycock Regional Executive Chicago Region SCCA
