1 File-Users Guide to Georgia Historic Resources Surveys All of the newer surveys are available through the GNAHRGIS database at This is a list of historic resources surveys including the date and status of the survey. The dates given indicate the first year of the survey. The surveys are countywide unless stated otherwise. The surveys fall into two major groups, old surveys and new surveys. Most old surveys were completed in the mid-to-late 1970s, with a few in the early 1980s. The new surveys have been conducted since 1988 according to the methods and survey form devised that year. Because the survey database (GNAHRGIS) was developed somewhat later, most of the surveys from 1988 and 1989 were not originally entered in the database. Some, but not all, have been added to the database since then. None of the pre-1988 surveys (the old surveys) is in the database. It should be assumed that any survey started in 2015 or later has been computerized. Survey forms are filed in HPD s public research room. If a survey is unedited, HPD staff has not edited each resource. Surveys completed since 2010 have not been edited by HPD staff. Any changes made by HPD staff are found in the survey computer database, not on the survey form. Most of the maps from the old surveys are DOT county highway maps, found near the front of the survey in the filing cabinets. Maps from the new surveys are USGS topographical maps and local community maps, stored flat in the map case in the survey filing area. A statewide survey of all state-owned property was conducted in This survey is not cited below because state-owned properties are found in many counties around the state. This survey is in the computer database; the survey and the accompanying published report, Held in Trust, are available in the research room, as well as online at Additionally, a statewide survey of historic theatres was conducted in 2014 and updated & entered into the computer database in The survey report is available in the research room.
