Cork European Championship Week 25 th 31 st July 2016 Juniors & Young Riders First rounds done 4 Wednesday s winners from France and Belgium As the Children had their day off, it was the turn of the Juniors and Young Riders to compete in their first official rounds. Two gripping competitions judged under Table C were Wednesday s programme from early morning to late afternoon. Young Rider winner Tanguy DOBREMEZ (FRA) and Junior winner Gilles THOMAS (BEL)

2 Fast French Finish: 1st Young Rider Competition goes to France! In the early morning the Young Riders competed in their 1st Individual Competition. The weather was just perfect for horse riding: Hardly windy, no rain at all except from a few minutes of light rain-, temperatures around 15 degrees. Ideal conditions promised an exciting first round for the eldest competitors of this show and their teams around them. Tanguy DOBREMEZ and his horse Psyche de Virton reached success all along the line: The French team member and his four-legged athlete crossed the finishing line clear in 70,80 seconds. Only four hundredth in behind, Sanne THIJSSEN from the Netherlands and Con Quidam RB went second even though they had one fence down. The third place went to German Guido KLATTE, riding Qinghai and staying clear. Host country Ireland reached a ribbon as well: Matt GARRIGAN did not put a single fence down and finished in 76,47 seconds and ended up on the 13 th place.

4 From 2 p.m. the Junior athletes of this year s European Jumping Championships powered by Devenish came after the Children and Young Riders to compete in their first official round. 13 obstacles led over 16 jumps with three double-combinations. The course designed by Gérard Lachat (SUI) measured 140cm in height and offered a lot of creativity to the riders: Even a curved combination was included as an alternative. The fastest competitor was Gilles THOMAS with his mare Indiana V.H Kapelhof from Belgium closely followed by his fellow countryman Simon MORSSINKHOF riding Gines Van De Klunderd. Four of five participating Belgium Juniors were placed and all of them finished clear what a successful first competition for this nation. The third place went to Sweden, reached by Ottilia LUNDREN and Alisia, who were clear either. Furthermore, two members of the Irish team were placed as well: Michael PENDER did a fast round, but unfortunately he had one fence down and put him 16 th. If he had been clear, he would have been placed second. Susan FITZPATRICK, who attended last year s championships in Wiener Neustadt/Austria as well, went 23 rd and got a ribbon for her clear round, too. Belgium double victory in Juniors class
