4 The 9th India Japan Energy Dialogue was held in New Delhi. Minister of State(IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, R.K Singh, and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Hiroshige Seko signed a Joint Statement at the conclusion of the meeting. Both the countries agreed to work together for energy security, energy access and climate change issues. They also agreed to initiate the discussion on Electric Vehicles (EVs) and commit to work together in promoting well-functioning energy markets.

7 Union Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation, Uma Bharti, launched the GOBAR (Galvanizing Organic Bio- Agro Resources) - DHAN scheme at the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) Auditorium, Karnal, Haryana. The scheme was launched in the presence of the Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar. The scheme aims to positively impact village cleanliness and generate wealth and energy from cattle and organic waste. The scheme also aims at creating new rural livelihood opportunities and enhancing income for farmers and other rural people.

10 Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 19th 'NavOli Jyotirdinam' celebrations at 'Shantigiri Ashram' in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. The function marks the beginning of celebrations from 1 st to 6 th May, commemorating the departure of Shantigiri Ashram founder Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru on 6th May Rajnath Singh also met Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain, who is visiting India.

13 HARIMAU SHAKTI 2018: INDIA AND MALAYSIA JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE BEGINS भ रत और मल दशय क न ओ न अपन पहल द पक ष य अभ य श र दकय

14 Exercise Harimau Shakti 2018, between the Indian Army and the Malaysian Army commenced on 30 April to 13 May 2018 at Wardieburn Camp, Kuala Lumpur with a brief and impressive handing over of troops ceremony. Lt Col Irwan Ibrahim, Commanding officer of the 1st Royal Ranger Regiment of Malaysian Army welcomed the Indian contingent and wished the Indian and Malaysian troops for a successful and mutually beneficial joint exercise. First phase of the two week long joint military exercise begin with the formal handing over of the Regimental Flag to the Malaysian Army signifying merging of the two contingents under one Commander.

18 Signalling a new era in telecom industry, the Telecom Commission has approved a proposal for allowing mobile phone calls and internet services in domestic and international flights in India. The approval though comes with certain riders. Telecom Commission also approved the proposal to create an ombudsman to deal with telecom grievances. The ombudsman will be set up under TRAI and will require amendment to the TRAI Act. Nearly 10 million grievances are received per quarter in telecom sector and the new mechanism of ombudsman will lead to a better and satisfactory consumer grievance redressal system Telecom Commission is the highest decision making body of telecom department, it also approved regulator TRAI's recommendations on internet telephony.

20 The government mopped up Rs 1.03 lakh crore as GST collection in April, indicating stabilisation of the new indirect tax regime that was rolled out in July 1 last year. While Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in entire stood Rs 7.41 lakh crore, in March the figure was Rs 89,264 crore. "The total gross GST revenue collected in April 2018 is Rs 1,03,458 crore of which CGST is Rs 18,652 crore, SGST is Rs 25,704 crore, IGST is Rs 50,548 crore (including Rs 21,246 crore collected on imports) and Cess is Rs 8,554 crore - including Rs 702 crore collected on imports, Finance Ministry said in a statement.

23 WhatsApp Co-founder and CEO Jan Koum has announced his resignation from the parent company Facebook. This comes shortly after a report claimed Koum would leave due to disagreements over data privacy and weakening encryption. Koum will also step down from Facebook's Board of Directors, a position he took up when WhatsApp was bought for $19 billion by Facebook in 2014.

26 India is ranked joint-sixth in the list of doping violations with 69 cases, same as that of Russia, according to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) report for samples collected in India improved its position to sixth after being joint-third for three consecutive years from 2013 to Italy topped the rankings of drug cases in 2016, followed by France (86), United States (76), Australia (75), Belgium (73).

28 India has been projected to be the second fastest growing country in the world for air passenger traffic. As per the Airports Council International (ACI), by 2022 passenger traffic in emerging economies like India will surpass advanced economies. The ACI, a global trade body representing airports across the globe, has put Vietnam at the top position with an 8.5% growth rate, followed by India at 7.5% and Iran at 7.3%. China has been placed at the 8th position with 5.9 percent growth rate. It placed the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi among the top twenty busiest airports in the world.

31 NASA will launch its first-ever mission InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) to study the deep interior of Mars on May 5, It will be launched from Space Launch Complex-3 at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California aboard United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket. The rocket will also launch two mini-spacecraft called Mars Cube One (MarCO) which is NASA s technology experiment.

35 Hockey India has appointed Harendra Singh as coach of India's men's team, while Sjoerd Marijne will take over as chief coach of women's side. The decision to change coaches comes on the backdrop of men s hockey team having a disappointing run at the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. India finished without a medal after losing to England in the bronze medal playoff match.

37 Indian shooter Shahzar Rizvi became the world number one shooter in the 10-metre air pistol categoryafter having won a silver medal at the recently concluded shooting World Cup in South Korea. With 1654 rating points, Rizvi shot to the numero uno spot ahead of Russia s Artem Chernousov (1046) and Japan s Tomoyuki Matsuda (803). The other Indian shooter in the world top-10 rankings is Jitu Rai, who is placed sixth. Among the women, Manu Bhaker, who won a historic gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, was the only Indian in the top-10 of the women s 10m air pistol rankings at the fourth spot.

The Tamil Nadu fencer went down to USA's Alexis Browne in the final. Bhavani Devi had won a gold medal at the Reykjavik tournament in 2017 to become the first Indian to do so in an international fencing event.
