9 2017 SVAG FEI EUROPEAN CHAMPION SENIORS FONCK CAPTURES THE VERY FIRST FEI INDIVIDUAL GOLD MEDAL FOR BELGIUM! In the 2017 edition of the FEI European Reining Championships for Seniors held on Thursday, Team Belgium took the gold. Belgian Bernard Fonck riding Smart N Sparkin was last to go for his team and made sure his ride would secure the team gold. Today, the NRHA Million Dollar Rider burst in the pen to the first stop and back, and from there on his pattern was a crescendo. Once he had performed his last stop, a 225 appeared on the score board. The last competitor of to go, Gennaro Lendi of Italy riding Marilyn Monwhoa the pair that had posted the highest score in the team competition closed their ride, it was a 219. The first ever FEI individual gold medal for Belgium was conquered! The level of competition here is very high, said Fonck. I knew that there were a great deal of horses and riders that were difficult to beat so, when I rode in the arena, I was aiming for the podium but did not know if we would be able to clinch the gold medal. As the pattern went on and Smart N Sparkin kept giving me more and more, I started believing that it could be done. He was great until the very end and gold it is! Team Germany had claimed the silver in the team competition on Thursday. Dominik Reminder and Dun It With A Splash owned by Manuela Moser were part of the team and their score had contributed toward sliding to the second step of the podium. Today, Reminder and the flashy palomino had the crowd going with their impressive ride. The German rider nailed each and every maneuver requested by pattern #10 and the judges paid him back with a 222. Their performance secured another silver medal to Germany. I ve only had this horse in training for three weeks, said an emotional Dominik. The first time I showed him was in the qualifying CRI and the second was here so I cannot be any happier. After the team competition I realized that he still had a lot of potential and today he showed it off! Yet another German rider, also on the silver medal team, left her mark in the arena today: Julia Schumacher riding Coeurs Little Tyke. The 7-year-old bay stallion owned by Georg Holzwarth performed to a 221 taking home the bronze medal. I just love this little pony, said a smiling Schumacher. I ve been riding him ever since he was three and he s always been great for me. His heart is as big as can be and I am so fortunate to have been able to ride him here. Bringing home two FEI medals is simply incredible! 9

12 THE SVAG FEI WORLD REINING CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR JUNIOR RIDERS INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION AXEL PESEK OF FRANCE CONQUERS THE FIRST FEI JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Last to go in the individual competition of the Junior World Championships, Axel Pesek and Uncle Sparky performed an incredible pattern #9. They lit up the arena, raised the crowd cheering to the max, and rode to the highest step of the podium thanks to their The 16-year-old French rider coached by professional Quentin Galliere - is no stranger to the winner s circle having won the French championship four times. In the Junior team competition, his score raised Team France s score enough to claim the team bronze. Today he took the very first FEI Junior World Championship gold with Jean Baptiste Duputel s 7-year-old stallion between the reins! Claiming the silver medal was Italy s Matteo Bonzano riding High Point Reiner owned by 23 QH Azienda Agricola. The great duo was part of the Italian Junior Team that claimed the Junior Riders World Championship gold medal yesterday. The pair once again performed impeccably raising the score they had achieved in the team competition by two points! The duo today scored a Yet another young Italian rider contributed to bringing home another medal for his home country: Gabriele Landi. The junior rider rode Alberto Tarabella s Spirit Spanish to a thus conquering the bronze medal. The 11-year-old gelding had been retired last year and was brought out of the pasture especially for Landi to ride in the World Championships. For Gabriele, this is the beginning of international competition. For Spirit Spanish, this is the perfect ending to his career! 12

18 THE SVAG FEI WORLD REINING CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR YOUNG RIDERS INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION GOTTA NIFTY GUN REINS GINA SCHUMACHER TO THE INDIVIDUAL GOLD MEDAL! We are one, are the words Gina Schumacher said of her World Champion horse, Gotta Nifty Gun after her winning ride today. Not only did the young rider capture the highest score in the World Team Competition a 224 which lead Team Germany to the gold medal. Today, the German athlete reined her blue-eyed companion to an amazing which turned into the gold medal for Germany in the Individual Competition. What more can I say about this incredible horse? she added. He understands me, and I understand him. Whenever I am nervous, he calms me down and vice-versa! The amazing feeling the duo has was felt in the stands today as once again they laid down a superb demonstration of reining at its best! It took a run-off to determine who would occupy the second and third step of the prestigious Individual Competition podium as two Italian riders had obtained the same score, a 219.5, in the competition. Both Nico Sicuro riding Iam Sailors Brother and Dino Lulli riding Sun Dreamin Star had posted exactly that score and as per FEI regulations the medals cannot be shared. The first rider to go back in the pen was Sicuro aboard Fabio Merola s 11-year-old stallion. The score was a 219. Lulli also gave all he had, as did Enrica Moro s 11-year-old Paint Horse stallion he was riding. The judges scored him a and the medals were determined. Both the horse-rider combinations were part of Team Italy, silver medalist in the Young Riders Team Competition. They added a silver and a bronze medal raising the total medals Italy takes back home from the very first FEI World Reining Championship for Juniors and Young Riders to seven! 18
