Weil wir uns vorgenommen haben, uns in jedem Jahr zu verbessern, warten wir diesmal mit einer Weltpremiere auf: zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte des FEI Reining-Sports findet eine Weltmeisterschaft für Junioren und Junge Reiter statt, und wir sind stolz darauf, mit unserer Show SVAG CS Classic Gastgeber dieser Neuheit zu sein. SUMMER OF REINING Corinna Schumacher under this motto we would like to welcome you again this year to the CS Ranch! Since we try to improve our show every year, we are presenting a world championship this time: for the first time in the history of the FEI Reining-Sports, a World Championship for Juniors and Young Riders takes place, and we are proud that our SVAG CS Classic will host this premiere. To all riders, teams and family, we keep our fingers crossed that the World Championship is going in accordance with your plans, but also that you can have some fun besides hard competition. At the same time we are staging the FEI European Championships for Senior Riders, at which the gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded. This obviously also stands for a high-class reining demonstration. Reining is a wonderful sport. Apart from love for the horse, it also requires discipline and training, but also sensitivity, sensitivity and team spirit. Nous souhaitons chaque année apporter des améliorations à notre Show, et cette année nous allons assister à une première mondiale: La FEI organise, pour la première fois de son histoire, un Championnat Mondial pour les cavaliers «Junior et Young» et c est avec beaucoup de fierté que nous accueillerons cette nouveauté lors de notre Show SVAG CS Classic. Nous croisons les doigts pour que ce Championnat Mondial soit à la hauteur des espérances des cavaliers, des équipes et de leurs familles et qu en marge d une compétition serrée, tous puissent y trouver beaucoup de plaisir. 7 FOREWORD BY THE FEI PRESIDENT It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the FEI World Reining Championships for Juniors and the FEI European Reining Championships for Seniors here in Givrins, a venue which has become synonymous with top Reining sport and facilities. This event combines the next generation of Reining superstars with Europe s very best reiners, and while they may be divided by their age and experience, they are very much united in their quest for excellence and their commitment and dedication to nurturing the very best partnership in order to perform a smooth yet energetic and skillful routine. Championships are special and built on respect, team spirit and trust trust in your team mates, but also the trust shown to each competitor here as they set out to represent their nation. To be selected to compete at a Championship is a badge of distinction and for the juniors will certainly provide an invaluable stepping stone to the world stage. For the senior competitors taking part in this European Championship, alongside the formidable platform to display their skills there is also the added opportunity to earn all important qualification places for the FEI World Equestrian Games next year in Tryon, USA, where the finest equestrian athletes will unite and compete for World titles in all the FEI disciplines. This is not the first time we see the sport s best athletes here in Givrins proudly competing for their nation and I am very grateful to the Schumacher family for being host to numerous championships aimed at all ages and effectively shaping the future of our sport. Events of this magnitude also rely on the support of the local community and numerous volunteers and on behalf of the FEI, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to this important group of individuals for their time, expertise and enthusiasm. And lastly, to all the sponsors, the media and you the fans, thank you for your dedication to Reining and the overarching values of equestrian sport: #TwoHearts, gender quality, respect and inclusiveness all ages, all nations, all-encompassing. 8 8 SVAG FEI EUROPEAN REINING CHAMPIONSHIPS: IT S TEAM GOLD FOR BELGIUM! GERMANY CLAIMS THE SILVER MEDAL AND ITALY SETTLES FOR THE BRONZE.

9 The SVAG FEI European Reining Championships rocked the crowd and kept everyone holding onto their seats until the very last of the 46 contestants in the CS Ranch arena yesterday. It was indeed the very last duo to enter the arena that determined who would wear the FEI gold medal around their neck. The last duo was made up of Belgian Bernard Fonck and Smart N Sparkin owned by Golden Paint Ranch. They posted a 223 which raised Team Belgium s final score to a winning 667 and placed the team on the top step of the podium. Both Ann Fonck with Topgun Showtime (owned by Juliana Szoke) and Cira Baeck riding Shine N Whiz (owned by CS Ranch Management SA) closed their runs with a 222. The fourth component of the team was 22-year-old Bo Brutsaert who rode her father s CJ Whiz to a With a 660 composite score, Team Germany claimed the silver medal. In the first half of the competition, Elias Ernst and Christine Wilinski s USS N Dun It had performed to a great His team mate, Julia Schumacher riding Georg Holzwarth s Coers Little Tyke, had the crowd cheering with fast and controlled circles. Their run closed with a Dominik Reminder s 219, posted riding Manuela Moser s Dun It With A Splash, was the third score valid to determine the team total. The fourth components were Alexander Ripper and Bay Gunner owned by Wolfgang Mueller. The pair closed their run with a Only half-a-point behind, Team Italy slid to the third step of the podium clinching the bronze medal. It was Gennaro Lendi s highest score of the day a aboard the flashy palomino mare owned by Vittorio Rabboni, Marilyn Monwhoa, that made the difference and sealed Italy s third place. Prior to Lendi s ride, Kelly Zweifel had posted Italy s second highest score (218.5), riding Impresa Agricola Cuoghi s Dunnit Like A Master. The third horse-rider-combination to enter the arena in the prestigious competition was Guglielmo Fontana riding Custom Wave for Letizia Tosetti. 24 BEAUTIFUL TROPHIES FOR THE MEDAL WINNERS The winners of the SVAG FEI European and World Championships this week will receive very special prizes, with Corinna being warmhearted and creative. She came up with the idea to for the first time ever make the traditional bronze trophy in gold, silver and bronze, and Maurizio Fortuna beautifully did those trophies for the Individual medallists. Again Corinna initiated the spectacular start number holders for the individual medallists, made by Kata Fay Custom Leather, and the individual medallists will also be rewarded by Spurs (gold) and Bits (silver) by Bits n Spurs and Stirrups by Mike Stone (bronze). All the team medallists will be receiving beautiful buckles in gold, silver and bronze made by Siering Bits. 25 VOICES FROM THE TEAM COACHES JEFF PETSKA TEAM USA JUNIOR AND YOUNG RIDERS COACH Jeff Petska is no stranger to international competition. The NRHA Professional has been Team USA coach since the very first reining competition held at the FEI World Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, in In each and every edition of the WEG since then, he and his teams have come back home with a shower of FEI medals! What s new this year is that he is coach for the Junior and Young Riders team here in Givrins at very first FEI World Reining Championships for the under 16 and under 21 riders. I ve done this a bunch of times with my open riders but am really excited about this change, says Petska. It s a new, learning experience for me and this group of kids has the ability, work ethic and support to face this challenge. Most of the riders have professional parents so I didn t have to spend much time working with them at home and I am certain that things will go very smoothly. My main goal is to put them in the position to do their thing and I cannot thank US Equestrian and our sponsors Platinum Performance enough for giving us this opportunity. The location here is absolutely great and the event is run very professionally. I am certain that the riders will leave from here with memories they will hold on to all their lives! NICOLE KUBLI CHÉF D EQUIPE FOR TEAM SWITZERLAND It s very nice to be able to host the inaugural FEI World Championships for Junior and Young Riders here in Switzerland and of course here at this facility which is one of the best in the world, said Kubli, chef d équipe for Team Switzerland. We appreciate the Schumacher family a great deal for giving our country this opportunity. This is a great show, very well organized and of course we are proud of the performance of our senior riders. Along with the Senior team, competing in the FEI European Reining Championships, representing Switzerland in the Juniors competition on an individual level is Flurin Staub riding Don With Chrome, a 7-year-old gelding owned by Terry Schulz. Flurin is a very good rider and has an excellent horse, added Kuli. We look forward to seeing him compete! FEDERIGO GARCIA TRICIO CHÉF D EQUIPE FOR TEAM SPAIN JUNIORS For Spain this is a wonderful experience and the very first of its kind, says Garcia who is here at the CS Ranch along with the very first Spanish reiners to take part in FEI competition. Spain is in fact represented here by Junior Team components Isaac Pinacho, Andreu Nogue Puig and Gabriel Cueto Salillas. All three junior riders come from different areas in Spain and they are all excited to write this important chapter of reining, he added. We have a great relationship with the Italian reiners so much that NRHA Professional Mirko Midili of Italy has generously made available his 7-year-old gelding, ARC Sparkle Magnetic, to Andreu and is helping the whole team here. This is the future of our sport and we all sincerely look forward to this group becoming bigger as the years go by. 25

27 WHY THE AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE IS IDEAL FOR REINING The American Quarter Horse is the largest registered horse breed worldwide with over 4.6 million registered horses. Even though the discipline Reining in the level NRHA or FEI is open to all breeds of horses, the American Quarter (and Paint) Horses were able to reliably assert themselves at the peak of top-level Reining. Why is this? Reining is a high-performance sport which has developed up to a very high niveau during the past years. This on one hand demands an athlete, on the other a horse with strong nerves and a certain amount of calmness. Quarter (and Paint) horses simply combine all of these characteristics. Originally bred in the USA for ranch work, these horses received a different meaning with industrialization. Beside their daily work, they were used for quarter mile horse races, the name Quarter Horse deriving from this. The various disciplines, upon others also Reining, developed out of the original ranch work. The worldwide breeding of Quarter Horses has been changing since several years. Twenty years ago the breed was marketed as being the most versatile horse breed in the world. In the between time breeding is specialized and according to the intended use, different types are resulting out of the same breed. For disciplines as Cutting, Working Cowhorse or Reining, the original Quarter Horse type has proven itself up until today: The Head, finely chiseled with a wide forehead and refined muzzle, small ears and alert eyes, sits lightly on medium long neck. The body shape is rectangular the back of medium length, body well-muscled, featuring a broad, deep chest and powerful, rounded hindquarters build this athlete. The body stands on a solid foundation with short, strong cannon bones, defined joints and hard hoofs of medium size. The average size is between 14 and 16 hands. The calm, good-tempered and also sensitive temperament, paired with nerve strength, make the Quarter Horse easy to train and an ideal partner for horse sports up to the highest level, as well as a perfect companion for leisure time and a reliable family horse. 27
