6 National Aquatics Centre The Water Cube Bright blue, and totally green The Water Cube or National Aquatics Centre, host to all the swimming and diving events, is a truly remarkable structure with some astonishing attributes. Glowing bright blue in the dark, the cube is designed to act as a greenhouse, harnessing the power of the sun to heat both the pool water and the building. It also boasts a green water system. 7 The Shunyi Rowing and Canoeing Park A truly spectacular water feature A stunning architectural display, the Shunyi Rowing and Canoeing Park is the world s only first class rowing and canoeing venue to contain both a flat water and slalom course. With 37,000 seats, the main spectator stand appears to float in a lake and offers great views out over the park and boathouse. Its unusual roof is designed to mimic the ripples of the water. Combining ancient history with modern technology many of the Olympic venues were ahead of their field.
