1 Ag Youth Magazine Oklahoma Youth Do the Ride Thing ATV Safety PSA Contest What: ATV Safety PSA Contest "Youth Helping Youth Ride Safe/Ride Smart" Who Can Participate: Current 4-H/FFA Members: Ages 9 to 18. Students will be grouped according to age ranges: 9-12 years old, years old, and years old. Contest Dates: March 1, 2016 through June 30, Winners announced in July Cash Awards: Each age category has a First ($300), Second ($200) and Third ($100) cash award. One overall ($600) cash award winner will be selected, all age categories are eligible for this award. Cash Awards sponsored by Larry and Mary Peck Ag Youth Magazine. How does it work? Create a 15, 30 or 60 second video Public Service Announcement (PSA) that will inform and motivate people to follow safe and responsible ATV use. Remember, the purpose of this contest is to help raise awareness about the importance of ATV safety and to encourage your friends and family to always use the Golden Rules of ATV Safety when riding an ATV. Entrants are asked to remember to always demonstrate the safe and responsible use of ATVs in their video submissions. Keep in mind that depicting unsafe activity or non-compliance with any of the Golden Rules will disqualify a video from the contest. HINT: Read the "Golden Rules" first, and then put your outline, story board and script together. Background: With more than 35 million riders operating over 10 million ATVs across the U.S., understanding the importance of safe and responsible riding techniques is essential. Both riders and non-riders can benefit from knowing the fundamentals to keep themselves, their friends and their families as safe as possible. Young riders, who often have more time to ride ATVs in the summer due to free time away from school, are especially vulnerable to certain types of crashes when not following proper safety rules. For example, nearly 90 percent of youth ATV-related injuries occur when a youth is operating an adult-sized ATV. Parents should supervise children under the age of 16 at all times while they operate an ATV, and manage when the vehicle can be used by removing the ignition key. By controlling the means to start the ATV, parents are literally holding the key to their child s safety. Consumer Product Safety Commission data show that 92 percent of all ATV-related fatalities are the result of warned-against behaviors. The ATV Safety Institute has eight Golden Rules of ATV safety that address these behaviors and apply to all riders.

2 ATV Safety Institute Eight Golden Rules of ATV Safety 1. Always wear a DOT-compliant helmet, goggles, long sleeves, long pants, overthe-ankle boots, and gloves. 2. Never ride on paved roads except to cross when done safely and permitted by law - another vehicle could hit you. ATVs are designed to be operated off-highway. 3. Never ride under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. 4. Never carry a passenger on a single-rider ATV, and no more than one passenger on an ATV specifically designed for two people. 5. Ride an ATV that's right for your age. 6. Supervise riders younger than 16; ATVs are not toys. 7. Ride only on designated trails and at a safe speed. 8. Your completed video PSA must be placed on a Thumb Drive or Burned to a CD. 2. Fill out Entry and Minor Model Release Forms. 3. The PSA video must be either 15, 30 or 60 seconds in length, inclusive of all titles and credits and should close with a visual referral to ridesafeok.org and atvsafety.org 2. Each video PSA must cover one or more ATV Safety Golden Rules. 3. You may enter multiple versions of your PSA (i.e. 15, 30 and 60 second versions) 4. All entries must be new, original creation of the entrant(s). The PSA cannot have been submitted in a previous promotion or contest. 5. A signed Appearance Consent and Release Form for the entrant and each person appearing in the PSA, and his/her parent/guardian if he/she is a minor (under the age of 18). 6. By submitting a video, all entrants grant Oklahoma State University 4-H Youth Development/ATV Ride Safe Oklahoma a non-exclusive license to air the video in any manner and medium whatsoever, with no compensation (other than any scholarship money awarded to you). 7. Please note that incomplete entries and those submitted after the deadline, June 30, 2016 will not be considered.

3 Official Rules: 1. No purchase necessary to enter or win. Void where prohibited by law. Maximum one entry (up to three versions: 15, 30 and 60 second) per person or team. 2. Video PSAs may be produced and submitted by an individual student or a group of up to four students per entry. 3. All video and music contained in the PSA must be original and copyright/royalty free. Otherwise, written permission from copyright holder granting use of the video footage or music is required and must be submitted with each entry if needed. Video without verified permissions are ineligible. 4. PSAs containing any verbal or written statistics, facts or copyright/royalty free media must submit references with entry form. 5. Video entries must be submitted by June 30, Video cannot exceed 60 seconds in length, inclusive of titles and credits. 7. The contest is open only to students who are currently enrolled in Oklahoma 4-H and/or FFA programs and between the ages of 9 and OSU 4-H Youth Development/ATV Ride Safe Oklahoma will not consider any video that depicts scenes of disregard for the rider s safety or the safety of other riders or bystanders. Do not submit content that would break any laws, cause damage to personal property of others, cause injury to the environment, defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate legal rights (such as privacy rights, publicity rights, copyrights, or trademark rights) of others. 9. Content that is unacceptable for this contest includes: Violence, Images of injury or death, Inappropriate language, Nudity/sexually explicit content of any kind, Sexual innuendo/sexist content, Racial/Ethnic/Religious slurs and Hate language. The bottom line is this: do not submit anything which would not be considered a "G" rating. Cash Award Winners: Entries will be reviewed by a panel of OSU 4-H Youth Development/ATV Ride Safe Oklahoma associates, members and affiliates, whose decisions are final. Winners will be notified by . Winning PSAs and the name of the submitters will be posted on 4h.okstate.edu and/or ridesafeok.org on or after July15, First ($300), second ($200) and third ($100) cash awards will be given in each of three age categories 9-12, 13-15, One overall cash award winner will be given $600, all age categories are eligible. Ten potential winners totaling $2,400 in cash awards will be selected. Odds of winning depend on the number of entries received and the quality of the videos. If no videos meet OSU 4-H Youth Development/ATV Ride Safe Oklahoma standards, no cash awards will be given. Winning PSAs will be posted online at 4h.okstate.edu and/or ridesafeok.org and made available to communities throughout Oklahoma to support ATV safety. Cash awards will be paid directly to entrant. *All videos that meet standards will be uploaded to YouTube.
