2 IGSSA BASKETBALL The Junior B team ran their first play against Iona last week Ms Shipley called a timeout and drew up an elaborate half court play on the whiteboard. Emy Booth started with the ball and reversed the ball to her teammate on the perimeter. She then ran through the lane and found an opening on the opposite wing the ball continued to move in her direction as she Emy set her feet to shoot. She caught the ball with her toes outside the three point line and fluently floated the ball up towards the basket. The ball caught nothing but net SWISH! Lucy-Rua Kelsch and Hannah Porter to demonstrated massive improvements on the court since the IGSSA season began last week. Lucy walked herself through the jumpshot and lay-up aspects of her game and managed to pick a huge amount of steals over the last week to complement her new skills. She banked two big baskets against the glass when playing Iona last week, which was a big improvement to the minutes she had played on court against Penrhos two days earlier. Hannah Porter brings a strong netball sense of play into her basketball game, allowing her to gauge the intentions of ball handlers and run through passing lanes. Her athleticism gives her the power she is looking for when snatching the ball away from unassuming opponents and the improvement she has made on her shot, has been rapid and inspiring. 6 FITNESS CLUB Well done to the loyal fitness club following attending training on Friday mornings. All fitness levels are catered for at this session. 100 CLUB This week s start will be at 6:15am at the bus all runners have been doing an amazing job of being there on time and ready to run. Thank you to those girls who have committed to the City to Surf on August 30 preparation will continue for the squad of fifteen runners who have registered with the Born to Move team. Further information, including maps and road closures, will be distributed to the team closer to the time. Stay tuned for updates via . If you have any further questions, please contact Ms McGranaghan. YEAR 8 WORLD CUP UPDATE... Surging forward in the race for the Golden Boot is Sarah Walters, who is leading her the way for her team in the CLAPJOHSHIP conference. Sarah s intensity on the pitch is a massive asset to the Italian team, as is her willingness to get her teammates involved in the game. Her silky smooth movements with the ball baffle opposition players and often times, facilitate an efficient attack on goals. Niamh Gustavino solified a beautiful goal against tough opposition this week, with this poised and explosive kick against goal keeper, Lauren Strange. The strength of Gustavino sent the ball sailing past Strange, putting the Brazilians one step closer to Italy. Italy has managed to zoom past their closest opposition on the ladder (Portugal) and remain three games clear of any threat of dropping a position on leader board. Italy not only have a huge offensive arsenal for other teams to contend with, they are also one of the most successful defensive teams in the World Cup, given they have only conceded 10 goals to opponents this season.
7 Meanwhile, in the PADHENCAM Conference, Donita Drage is raising the bar as Coach for the Australian team. She comes to games and pactices with a comprehensive plan of attack for her team and empowers her players to compete the best of their ability. As a result of her diligence and commitment, Australia have moved up the ladder to fifth place this week. Thank you to our resident journalists, Grace Corboy and Sidney Ford, for highlighting some poignant moments in the World Cup over the last week or two. Argentina spiced up their championship fight with a win over the undefeated French team. Cate Henderson (Spain) evened the score against Argentina with a difficult, but great kick. Carly Hovitch received a kick in the knee, subbed herself out to retrieve an ice pack, then promptly put herself back on the pitch with ice strapped to her leg. Katelin Hawes attempted a powerful kick on goal, but Imogen Brooks skilfully denied the attack by putting her throat in the firing line.
