1 THIS WEEK vs. JACKSONVILLE The Chicago Bears (1-0) play their second home preseason game in a week s span when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0) at Soldier Field on Thursday, August 14 at 7:00 pm CT. Bears General Manager Phil Emery kept continuity among the Bears offense, which rewrote the franchise record books in 2013, by re-signing QB Jay Cutler, C Roberto Garza G Matt Slauson this offseason and extending FB Tony Fiammetta just prior to the end of last season. These moves enabled the Bears to keep all 11 primary starters from a year ago. He added depth through multiple free agent signings including C Brian de la Puente and drafting RB Ka Deem Carey (fourth round), QB David Fales (sixth round) and T Charles Leno, Jr. (seventh round). After an inconsistent 2013 season, Emery rebuilt the Bears defense through free agency and the draft. Emery s free agent signings included DE Jared Allen, DE Lamarr Houston, DE Willie Young, LB Jordan Senn, S M.D. Jennings and S Ryan Mundy. In the draft, the Bears selected CB Kyle Fuller (fi rst round), DT Ego Ferguson (second round), DT Will Sutton (third round) and S Brock Vereen (fourth round). The Bears also re-signed 2013 defensive standouts: CB Tim Jennings, DT Jeremiah Ratliff and CB Charles Tillman. On special teams, the Bears extended K Robbie Gould just prior to the end of the 2013 season but will have a new punter, long snapper and kick returner. Sixth-round selection Pat O Donnell and fi rst-year veteran Tress Way are competing at punter and Brandon Hartson and Chad Rempel are battling for the longsnapper job. Veterans Armanti Edwards, Michael Ford, Micheal Spurlock and Eric Weems and fi rst-year veteran Chris Williams are vying to become the Bears primary returnman. 2 THE HEAD COACHES CHICAGO BEARS Marc Trestman Marc Trestman is in his second season as head coach of the Chicago Bears. In 2013, under Trestman, Chicago s offense gained a franchise-best 6,109 net yards. The passing offense set single-season records in gross passing yards (4,450), net passing yards (4,281), completion percentage (64.4), passing touchdowns (32) and passer rating (96.9). The Bears offense also set a franchise mark with 344 fi rst downs and fi nished second in team history with 445 points (second most in the NFL in 2013). Prior to his time in Chicago, Trestman spent fi ve seasons as a head coach in the Canadian Football League, leading the Montreal Alouettes to back-to-back Grey Cup titles (2009 and 2010) while being named the CFL s Coach of the Year in Trestman has 18 years of coaching experience in the NFL, helping his teams to eight playoff appearances, two conference championship games and a Super Bowl appearance (XXXVII as offensive coordinator of the Raiders). Under Trestman, Raiders QB Rich Gannon was named NFL MVP in Trestman also has NFL coaching experience with the Vikings, Browns, Lions, Cardinals and Dolphins and was a consultant to the Saints. Collegiately, he has coached at Miami (Fla.) and NC State. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS Gus Bradley Gus Bradley is in his second year as head coach of the Jaguars, after being name the fi fth head coach of the franchise on January 17, Prior to joining the Jaguars, Bradley spent four seasons ( ) with the Seattle Seahawks as defensive coordinator. In his last two seasons overseeing Seattle s defense, the Seahawks ranked sixth in the NFL in total defense (319.2 ypg), third in scoring defense (17.5 ppg), fi fth in takeaways (62), fi rst in opponents passer rating (73.2) and fi fth in interceptions (40). Bradley came to Seattle from Tampa Bay where he spent two seasons ( ) as linebackers coach after joining the Buccaneers in 2006 as their defensive quality control coach. Prior to Tampa Bay, Bradley spent 10 seasons ( ) as an assistant coach at his alma mater, North Dakota State, including six as the assistant head coach ( ). He also served as defensive coordinator for the Bison from , and again in Bradley was the head coach at Fort Lewis College for four months (December 1995-March 1996) and was defensive coordinator/linebackers coach at Fort Lewis for four seasons ( ). The two teams originally squared off in 2002 at Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill. The Jaguars took the game THE REGULAR SEASON SERIES: In the regular season series the Bears hold a 4-2 edge, winning the last two contests. 4 LAST GAME vs. JAGUARS (REGULAR SEASON) Chicago 41, Jacksonville 3 Sunday, October 7, EverBank Field JACKSONVILLE, FL -- For the second straight game (10/1/12 at DAL), CB Charles Tillman and LB Lance Briggs returned interceptions for touchdowns and QB Jay Cutler threw two touchdown passes as the Bears broke open a close game with a dominant second-half performance in a 41-3 rout of the Jaguars at EverBank Field. Six days after outscoring the Cowboys 24-3 to open the second half, the Bears outscored the Jaguars 38-0 in the second half Sunday in Jacksonville, snapping a 3-3 halftime tie. The Bears held decisive advantages over the Jaguars in total yards ( ), fi rst downs (26-10) and time of possession (36:00-24:00). On the opening possession of the second half, K Robbie Gould s 31-yard fi eld goal gave the Bears a 6-3 lead, capping a 17-play, 76-yard drive that burned 9:18 off the clock. Two plays later, Tillman picked off a Blaine Gabbert pass and returned it 36 yards for a touchdown to give the Bears the momentum and a 13-3 lead. Cutler increased the Bears lead to 27-3 with touchdown passes of 10 yards to WR Alshon Jeffery on the fi rst play of the fourth quarter and 24 yards to WR Brandon Marshall with 8:37 remaining. Four plays after Marshall s touchdown, Briggs intercepted a pass that defl ected off RB Maurice Jones-Drew and returned it 36 yards for a score, widening the margin to Tillman and Briggs became the fi rst teammates in NFL history to return interceptions for touchdowns in back-to-back games. It also marked the fi rst time the Bears have brought back interceptions for TDs in three straight contests in franchise history. After a sluggish start, Cutler completed 23 of 39 passes for 292 yards with two touchdowns and one interception for an 88.8 passer rating. He repeatedly went to Marshall, who had 12 receptions for 144 yards and one touchdown. RB Matt Forte provided a spark on the ground, rushing for 107 yards on 22 carries. Forte and Marshall gave the Bears a 100-yard rusher and receiver in the same game for the fi rst time since Nov. 12, 2006 in a road win over the New York Giants. Reserve running back Armando Allen closed the scoring with a 46-yard touchdown run with 1:49 to play. The Bears recorded their largest margin of victory since a 44-0 pasting of the Cowboys on Nov. 17, 1985 and scored the second most points (38) in the second half in franchise history. 5 BEARS POSITION BREAKDOWN: OFFENSE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR AARON KROMER Quality control coaches: Brendan Nugent & Carson Walch QUARTERBACKS (4) - Coach Matt Cavanaugh After signing a seven-year contract in January, Jay Cutler enters sixth season in Chicago as franchise leader in career passer rating (83.1), completions (1,258), attempts (2,090), passing yards (14,913) and passing yards per game (222.6). Cutler also ranks second in completion percentage (60.2) and passing touchdowns (101) in 67 starts as a member of the Bears. For his NFL career, Cutler has started all 104 games played in eight seasons with Denver ( ) and Chicago ( ), completing 2,020-of-3,310 pass attempts (61.0 percent) for 23,937 yards, 155 touchdowns and 112 interceptions for a QB rating of Has added 1,234 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 285 career carries (4.3 ypc). In the Bears fi rst preseason game versus Philadelphia, Cutler was nine-of-13 passing (69.2 percent) for 85 yards and a touchdown to compile a passer rating. Cutler led the Bears to a touchdown on one of his two drives, converting three third-and-long situations. Backing up Cutler will be Jordan Palmer, Jimmy Clausen and David Fales. Palmer returns for his second season with the Bears after spending the fi nal 9 contests of the 2013 season on Chicago s active roster but never appearing in a game. Palmer has appeared in four games during his NFL career, all with the Cincinnati Bengals ( ), completing 10-of-15 pass attempts for 59 yards with two interceptions. Against the Eagles in the fi rst preseason contest, Palmer was eight-of-11 passing (72.7 percent) for 104 yards, a touchdown and interception to put up a 94.5 passer rating. Clausen was signed by the Bears in the 2014 offseason after spending four seasons ( ) with the Carolina Panthers. During his time in Carolina, Clausen completed 157-of-299 passes (52.5 percentage) for 1,558 yards, three touchdowns and nine interceptions in 13 appearances (10 starts). He added 57 rushing yards on 23 carries (2.5 ypc). All 13 appearances came in his 2010 rookie season. In his fi rst preseason action with Chicago, Clausen was seven-of-13 (53.8 percent) passing for 150 yards and two touchdowns for a passer rating. He added a 16-yard scramble and a completion on a two-point conversion. Fales was selected by the Bears in the sixth round (183 rd overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. Over two seasons at San Jose State, Fales started all 25 contests connecting on 639-of-938 passing attempts (68.1 percent) for 8,382 yards, 66 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. He owns the two top passing seasons in San Jose State history (4,193 yards in 2012 and 4,189 in 2013), the single-season school record for touchdown passes (33 in both 2012 and 2013) and the top two marks for completions (327 in 2012 and 312 in 2013). Prior to his time at SJSU, Fales started 20 contests at Monterey Peninsula College ( ) after one year (2009) at Nevada, although he did not play a game for the Wolfpack. Against the Eagles, Fales was fi ve-of-seven passing (71.4 percent) for 68 yards and an interception (62.5 passer rating). RUNNING BACKS/FULL BACKS (7) - Coach Skip Peete Matt Forté is coming off his second Pro Bowl selection (2011 and 2013), ranking second in Bears history in yards from scrimmage (9,585) and rushing yards (6,666 on 1,551 attempts) and fi fth in rushing touchdowns (35). The dual-threat back also ranks third in franchise history in catches (341) and 14 th in receiving yards (2,919, which are second most by a running back in Bears annals). Forté is third in the league in yards from scrimmage, rushing yards and receiving yards among running backs since entering the NFL in One-of-three players in NFL history to have 1,400-plus yards from scrimmage in each of his fi rst six seasons (Curtis Martin and LaDainian Tomlinson). Forté started the Bears 2014 preseason opener and played two series, seeing three carries for negative fi ve yards. A mix of rookies and young veterans will compete for the backup running back position. The Bears selected Ka Deem Carey in the fourth round (117 th overall) in the 2014 NFL Draft. The Pac-10 offensive player of the year in 2013, Carey started 24-of-36 games played at Arizona ( ) rushing for 4,239 yards and 48 touchdowns on 743 carries (5.7 ypc). He added 679 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 77 receptions (8.8 ypr) and 565 yards on 27 kickoff returns (20.9 ypr). His 48 rushing touchdowns rank second in FBS history behind the 49 by Montee Ball of Wisconsin ( ). Carey made his Bears preseason debut versus the Eagles and had 10 carries for 23 yards. Michael Ford is in his second season with the Bears after spending his rookie season on special teams collecting fi ve special teams tackles on coverage. Ford was also a part of the return game for Chicago, returning fi ve pooched kickoffs for 37 yards (7.4 ypr). Ford had 15 rushing yards on fi ve carries versus Philadelphia in the preseason opener. During the offseason the Bears signed veteran running back Shaun Draughn. Draughn has appeared in 20 contests over three seasons with Kansas City ( ) and Baltimore (2013), rushing 63 times for 235 yards (3.7 ypc) and two touchdowns to go along with 24 receptions for 158 yards (6.6 ypr). He totaled 12 yards in the Bears preseason opener against the Eagles with a two-yard run and a 10-yard reception. The Bears also signed unrestricted rookie free agents Jordan Lynch (Northern Illinois) and Senorise Perry (Louisville) this offseason. Lynch paced the Bears with 24 rushing yards on seven carries in the preseason opener, while Perry totaled 30 yards (17 rushing on fi ve carries and a 13-yard reception). FB Tony Fiammetta (Fee-ah-met-uh) is in his second season with the Bears and his fi fth in the NFL after signing a two-year contract extension at the end of the 2013 season. Fiammetta has started 24-of-50 games played with Carolina ( ), Dallas (2011) and Chicago (2013), hauling in 12 receptions for 130 yards (10.8 ypc) to go along with 11 carries for 26 yards. A-5

6 WIDE RECEIVERS (11) - Coach Mike Groh Five-time Pro Bowler (2008, 09, seasons) Brandon Marshall enters his third year in Chicago owning two of the top receiving seasons in franchise history. The 6-4 Marshall followed up his 2012 campaign, in which he set single-season Bears records for receptions (118) and receiving yards (1,508) with 100 receptions and 1,295 receiving yards in 2013, which rank tied for second and fi fth, respectively in franchise annals. Marshall added 11 touchdown catches in 2012 and a career-high 12 TD grabs in Overall, since joining the Bears in 2012, Marshall s 218 receptions are second most in the NFL, his 2,803 receiving yards are fourth, his 23 touchdown receptions are fi fth and his 13 games with 100 or more receiving yards are tied for second. For his NFL career, Marshall has hauled in 712 receptions for 9,050 yards (12.7 ypc) with 57 touchdowns in eight seasons with Denver ( ), Miami ( ) and Chicago ( ). He ranks third and fi fth in the NFL in receptions and receiving yards, respectively, since entering the NFL in Marshall is the only player in the NFL to have over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the last seven years and the only player to have 80-plus receptions in each of the last seven seasons. Marshall had fi ve receptions for 31 yards, including four receptions for 28 yards during the fi rst-team offense s touchdown drive, in less than a quarter of play in the preseason opener against the Eagles. Third-year 6-3 wideout Alshon Jeffery is coming off a 2013 Pro Bowl season in which he was named the PFWA s Most Improved Player after fi nishing sixth in the NFL with 1,421 receiving yards, the second most in single-season franchise history. Jeffery had 89 receptions last season, which are sixth most in Bears single-season annals. In two seasons, Jeffery has 113 receptions for 1,788 yards (15.8 ypr) and 10 touchdowns. He has added 105 rushing yards on 16 carries (6.6 ypc). Jeffery had a 16-yard reception in the preseason opener versus Philadelphia. Marshall and Jeffery combined for 2,716 receiving yards in 2013, second-most by a receiving duo in the NFL last season and the most by a duo in Bears franchise history. Second-year 6-4 wide out Marquess Wilson appeared in 10 games during his 2013 rookie season, including starting the season fi nale vs. Green Bay, and hauled in two receptions for 13 yards. Still just 21 years old (turning 22 in mid-september), Wilson will get the fi rst opportunity to earn the No. 3 wide receiver position. He fi nished his collegiate career at Washington State as the school s all-time leader in receiving yards (3,207) in just three seasons. Wilson injured his clavicle during training camp. Eric Weems returns for his third season with the Bears and his eighth season in the NFL, recording 27 receptions for 240 yards (8.9) and two touchdowns during his time in the league. In two seasons with the Bears, he has three receptions for 35 yards (11.7 ypr). During the offseason, Chicago signed veteran receivers Armanti Edwards, Josh Morgan and Micheal Spurlock. Edwards has appeared in 41 games over four seasons with Carolina ( ) and Cleveland (2013) grabbing six receptions for 131 yards (21.8 ypc). Morgan has appeared in 79 games with 54 starts in six seasons with San Francisco ( ) and Washington ( ), hauling in 199 receptions for 2,488 yards (12.5 ypc) and 11 touchdowns. In 2013, Morgan caught 20 passes for 214 yards (10.7 ypc). Morgan had two receptions for 36 yards in the preseason opener against the Eagles. Spurlock has appeared in 67 games with two starts over seven seasons for seven different teams, recording 46 receptions for 494 yards (10.7 ypr) and three touchdowns. Spurlock had four receptions for 56 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown catch versus Philadelphia. The Bears also have a trio of fi rst-year veteran receivers in Josh Bellamy and Chris Williams. The Bears claimed Bellamy off of waivers from the Redskins this offseason. He has appeared in eight games over two seasons with Kansas City (2012) and Washington (2013), with a majority of his experience coming on special teams. Bellamy had a 41-yard reception against the Eagles in the preseason opener. In December of 2013, the Bears signed Williams to their active roster off of the New Orleans Saints practice squad. Williams has spent time with Miami, Cleveland and New Orleans while also spending two seasons in the CFL ( ). He hauled in 153 receptions for 2,362 yards and 17 touchdowns with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats including being named the league s Most Outstanding Rookie in Williams had two receptions for 78 yards, including a 73-yard TD catch against Philadelphia in the preseason opener. The Bears added 6-3 Greg Herd and 6-3 Dale Moss during training camp. Herd signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Washington in He also spent part of the 2013 preseason with the Seattle Seahawks. Herd had a two-yard reception in the preseason opener against the Eagles. Moss has spent time on the Bears practice squad in 2012 and part of the 2013 offseason with the team. He has also spent time with Carolina, Tampa Bay and Green Bay since entering the NFL in He caught a 12-yard pass against the Eagles in the fi rst preseason game. A-6

7 TIGHT ENDS (5) - Coach Andy Bischoff 6-6 tight end Martellus Bennett is looking to build off a career year in 2013, setting personal-highs in receptions (65) and receiving yards (759) while tying a career-high with fi ve touchdowns. Bennett s 65 receptions in 2013 were second most in Bears franchise history among tight ends and his 759 receiving yards were sixth most. In seven NFL seasons with Dallas ( ), the N.Y. Giants (2012) and Chicago (2013), Bennett has hauled in 205 receptions for 2,231 yards (10.8 ypr) and 14 touchdowns in 92 contests. He did not play in the fi rst preseason contest. Dante Rosario returns for his second season with the Bears and eighth overall in the NFL having hauled in 100 receptions for 1,119 yards (11.2 ypr) and eight touchdowns. Rosario was acquired by the Bears in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys at the start of the 2013 season after having appeared in 106 games including 29 starts with Carolina ( ), Miami (2011), Denver (2011) and San Diego (2012). Rosario started the preseason opener versus Philly in a two-tight end set and had two receptions for 28 yards, adding a two-point conversion catch. During the 2013 offseason, the Bears signed veteran tight ends Jeron Mastrud, Zach Miller and Matthew Mulligan. Mastrud has appeared in 52 games with 18 starts over four seasons with Miami ( ) and Oakland (2013), grabbing seven passes for 96 yards. Mastrud had two receptions for 16 yards against the Eagles in the Bears fi rst preseason game. Miller had 45 receptions for 470 yards (10.4 ypr) and four touchdowns in 33 games (fi ve starts) over three seasons in Jacksonville ( ). Miller led the Bears with six receptions for 68 yards and two touchdowns (one from Cutler and one from Palmer) in the Bears preseason opener against Philadelphia. Mulligan has hauled in 16 receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns in fi ve seasons with the Jets ( ), Rams (2012) and Patriots (2013). Mulligan started in a two-tight end set in the preseason opener vs. the Eagles. OFFENSIVE LINE (15) - Coach Pat Meyer The Bears are returning all fi ve starters on an offensive line that each started all 16 games in 2013, fi nishing tied for fourth in the NFL in fewest sacks allowed with 30. Fourteen-year NFL veteran Roberto Garza is in his fourth season as the anchor of the Bears offensive line at center and his 10 th season overall with the team. The durable lineman has seen action in all but two of the 150 games since joining the Bears in 2005 (appearing in 142- of-144 regular season contests and seeing action in all six playoff games). For the last three years, he has served as an offensive captain while starting all 16 regular season games each season at center. For his NFL career, Garza has started 164-of-194 regular season games played with Atlanta ( ) and Chicago ( ). He has played each of the interior offensive line spots during his career. Garza started the preseason opener versus Philadelphia at center. Two-time Pro Bowl ( ) left tackle Jermon Bushrod is in his second season with the Bears and eighth season overall. Bushrod has started 78-of-82 games played with the New Orleans Saints ( ) and Bears (2013), including the offensive Saints 2009 Super Bowl season. While a starter, his respective team has ranked in the top fi ve in the NFL for fewest sacks allowed each season. He has started all 16 games in each of the last three seasons. Bushrod opened the fi rst preseason game against the Eagles at left tackle. Next to Bushrod on the left side of the line is veteran guard Matt Slauson. Slauson, who returns to Chicago by signing a four-year contract this offseason, has started all 16 contests in each of the last four seasons and for his NFL career has appeared in 67 games (64 starts) with the New York Jets ( ) and Bears (2013). He has helped pave way for a 1,000-yard rusher in three of his four seasons as a starter. Slauson started at left guard in the preseason opener against Philly. Jordan Mills is slated to hold down the starting right tackle position after opening all 16 games there during his 2013 rookie season. The 6-5, 316-pound Mills was a fi fth-round selection (163 rd overall) in Next to Mills on the right side of the line will be 2013 Pro Bowl guard Kyle Long. Long started all 16 games in 2013 and became the fi rst Bears rookie to make the Pro Bowl since Johnny Knox (returner) in 2009 and the fi rst to make it as a non-specialist since Brian Urlacher in Mills and Long did not play in the preseason opener due to minor injuries. The Bears re-signed guard/tackle Eben Britton in April, bringing back the sixth-year pro who saw action in 13 games last season with four starts, mostly as a sixth eligible lineman. For his NFL career, Britton has started 34 of 50 games played with Jacksonville ( ) and Chicago (2013). Britton started 23 games at right tackle, seven contests at left guard and four as a sixth eligible lineman. Britton did not play against the Eagles in the fi rst preseason game. During free agency, the Bears inked C Brian de la Puente after he started 44-of-48 games over four seasons in New Orleans. The 6-3, 306-pound de la Puente started all 16 games at center for the Saints in each of the last two seasons. During that time, the Saints offense ranked second and fourth in 2012 and 2013, respectively, in total net yards. de la Puente started at right guard in place of Long in the preseason opener against Philadelphia. The Bears also added Michael Ola this offseason. The 6-4, 312-pound Ola spent with the Montreal Alouettes starting 21 games and a playoff contest. 8 OFFENSIVE LINE (continued) G/T James Brown is in his third year with the Bears after playing in fi ve contests during his 2012 rookie season, including starting the fi nal three games at left guard, while spending the entire 2013 season on the active roster but never appearing in a game. Brown led all Bears players with 56 offensive snaps in the preseason opener against the Eagles. Chicago also resigned guard/center Taylor Boggs who spent the entire 2013 season on the Bears active roster appearing in one contest. Prior to his time in the Windy City, Boggs spent the 2011 season and part of the 2012 offseason with the New York Jets. T Joe Long enters his second season with the Bears after being signed by the team in December of Long was inactive for the fi nal two regular season games for Chicago after spending a majority of the 2013 season on Pittsburgh s practice squad. During the fi rst week of training camp, the Bears signed veteran G/C Dylan Gandy. Gandy has appeared in 120 games with 19 starts over eight seasons with Indianapolis ( ) and Detroit ( ), playing both center and guard. He has appeared in at least 15 contests seven times during his career, including all 16 games on fi ve occasions. Chicago selected T Charles Leno, Jr. in the seventh round (246th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Boise State. Leno started 39 consecutive games to fi nish his collegiate career, earning fi rst-team all-mountain West honors as a senior. Overall during his collegiate career, Leno saw action in 49 contests, starting 13 contests at right tackle and 26 at left tackle. Leno was third among Bears offensive linemen with 46 offensive snaps in the preseason opener against Philly. On July 31st, the Bears added G Graham Pocic and T Dennis Roland to the roster. The 6-7 Pocic signed with the St. Louis Rams in 2013 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of the University of Illinois but was placed on injured reserve last year due to a shoulder injury. The 6-9 Roland started 30-of-71 games played over six seasons ( ) with the Cincinnati Bengals. He started games 19 at right tackle and 11 as a sixth-eligible lineman. He has also appeared in four postseason contests with one start at right tackle. Roland was second among Bears offensive players with 52 offensive plays versus Philadelphia. The Bears also added undrafted rookie Ryan Groy (guard, Wisconsin) in the 2014 offseason. A-8

Allen leads the NFL with sacks since entering the league in He has recorded seven consecutive double-digit sack seasons ( ), which is tied for the third-longest streak in NFL history, and has eight double-digit sack seasons during NFL career. Allen has started 151-of-157 games played with the Chiefs ( ) and Vikings ( ), recording 690 tackles, fi ve interceptions, 49 pass break ups, 32 forced fumbles, 16 fumble recoveries and os tied for the NFL record with 4 career safeties. He led the NFL in sacks during 2007 (15.5) and 2011 (22 - tied for second most in NFL single-season history) seasons and fi nished second in 2009 (14.5). Allen did not play in the fi rst preseason game. Scheduled to start on the opposite end of the line is another free agent acquisition, Lamarr Houston. In four seasons in Oakland ( ), Houston tied for the team lead in sacks (16) and forced fumbles (four). He has added six opponent fumble recoveries, tied for seventh in the NFL since 2010, 238 tackles, 37 tackles for losses and one interception. He has not missed a game in his four-year career, starting 60 contests during that time. Last season, Houston led the Raiders with six sacks while serving as one of the team s defensive captains. Houston started at LDE for the Bears in the preseason opener as the fi rst-team defense allowed no points in two drives of action with one takeaway while holding the Eagles to negative four net yards and just one fi rst down. The Bears also signed unrestricted free agent DE Willie Young this offseason. Young totaled 72 tackles, six sacks, seven PBUs, 11 TFLs and two FRs in 48 career games, including 15 starts, with the Detroit Lions ( ). He is coming off of career-highs in almost every statistical category including tackles (47), PBUs (fi ve), TFLs (seven) and FRs (two). Young started at RDE for the Bears in place of Allen in the preseason opener versus Philadelphia and had a QB hit on Nick Foles fi rst interception of the game. Chicago also brought in veteran defensive ends Trevor Scott and Austen Lane this offseason. Scott has tallied 94 tackles, 16.5 sacks, 21 TFLs and two forced fumbles in 76 games played (18 starts) over six NFL seasons with Oakland ( ), New England (2012) and Tampa Bay (2013). He led Oakland in sacks in each of his fi rst two seasons in the league (fi ve in 2008 and seven in 2009). Scott s 34 defensive snaps and three tackles in the preseason opener versus Philadelphia were both the most among Bears defensive linemen. Lane has accumulated 64 tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble over 30 games (17 starts) in four NFL seasons for Jacksonville ( ) and Detroit (2013). Lane had one tackle in the preseason opener against Philadelphia. David Bass and Cornelius Washington are both returning for their second seasons with the Bears. Bass appeared in 12 games with one start during his 2013 rookie season in Chicago, gathering 20.5 tackles - including one sack and 2.5 TFLs - and one interceptions which he returned for a touchdown. Bass had two tackles - including a sack - and one pass defense in the preseason opener against the Eagles. Washington saw action in two games in his inaugural NFL season with the Bears, recording one tackle - which was a tackle for loss. He had two tackles, including a TFL, in the fi rst preseason game vs. Philly. With two new faces on the outside of the starting defensive line, the Bears are scheduled to have two returning faces start along the interior in DT Jeremiah Ratliff and NT Stephen Paea. Ratliff returns for his second season with Chicago after appearing in the fi nal fi ve contests with the Bears in 2013, including four starts. The four-time Pro Bowler ( ) has started 89-of-109 career contests with Dallas ( ) and Chicago (2013), totaling tackles, 28.5 sacks, 26 TFLs, 18 PBUs, 13 fumble recoveries and fi ve forced fumbles. Last season Ratliff had 14.5 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a TFL in fi ve contests for the Bears. Ratliff started at DT in the preseason opener against the Eagles. Paea enters his fourth season with Chicago after starting 24-of-39 games played over the previous three years. He has collected 77 tackles, six sacks, nine TFLs, four pass break ups and one safety during his career. Last season, Paea started 10-of-13 games played setting a career-highs with four PBUs and 4.5 TFLs, adding 29 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Paea started at NT in the preseason opener vs. Philly. The Bears drafted a pair of defensive tackles in the second (Ego Ferguson, 51st overall) and third round (Will Sutton, 82nd overall) this year. Ferguson played in 38 games with 12 starts during three years at LSU ( ), fi nishing with 85 tackles, fi ve TFLs and one sack, earning honorable mention all-sec honors as a junior in Ferguson had two tackles in his NFL preseason debut against the Eagles. Sutton was named Pat Tillman Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and an Associated Press fi rst-team All-American in his last two seasons at Arizona State. He completed his collegiate career with 161 tackles - including 45.5 for loss and 20.5 sacks in 51 games (34 starts) in four seasons ( ) for the Sun Devils. Sutton had a QB hit in the Bears fi rst preseason game versus the Eagles. DT Nate Collins returns for his third season with Chicago and his fi fth NFL season overall, having appeared in 27 games with two starts, collecting 35 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one tackle for a loss, one pass defensed and a fumble recovery. Last season, Collins appeared in fi ve contests, making his fi rst 2 career starts, gathering 12 tackles - including a sack - before being placed on IR with a knee injury. Tracy Robertson returns after spending three months on the Bears practice squad last season, appearing in one contest for Chicago after being elevated to the active roster. He has also spent time with the Texans (2012), Lions (2012), Patriots (2013) and Dolphins (2013). Robertson had a tackle in the preseason opener. The Bears also signed undrafted free agent defensive tackles Brandon Dunn (Louisville) and Lee Pegues (East Carolina). Dunn had a QB hit in his preseason debut against the Eagles. A-9

10 LINEBACKERS (9) - Coach Reggie Herring Seven-time Pro Bowl ( ) weakside linebacker Lance Briggs enters his 12th season with the Bears, returning from a season in which he ranked fourth on the team in tackles (87) despite playing in just nine contests due to a shoulder injury. Briggs has recorded 1,501 tackles, 93 TFLs, 15 INTs, 15 sacks, 18 forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and six defensive touchdowns as a member of the Bears ( ). His six defensive TDs are third most in franchise history and his fi ve interception return scores are second most. He has led the team in tackles in fi ve seasons (2004, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012) and collected 100-plus tackles in nine-straight seasons before last year ( ). Briggs started at WLB in the fi rst preseason game and played two series with the fi rst-team defense, holding the Eagles scoreless. Middle linebacker D.J. Williams returns for his second season with the Bears and his 10th NFL season overall, playing in 133 games with 119 starts with Denver ( ) and Chicago (2013). Williams has recorded 925 tackles, 22.5 sacks, two interceptions, 41 PBUs, 15 FFs and seven FRs during his NFL career. Last season Williams started four-of-six games notching 39 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble and two tackles for losses before being placed on IR with a pectoral injury. Williams manned the starting MLB position in the preseason opener against Philadelphia. Williams has competition from second-year linebacker Jonathan Bostic. Bostic started nine-of-16 games during his 2013 rookie season, ranking fi fth on the team with 76.5 tackles - including two sacks and 4.5 TFLs - one interception and one fumble recovery. He joined Brian Urlacher as the only Bears rookie linebackers to record a sack, interception and opponent fumble recovery in his fi rst season with the team since sacks were fi rst recorded in All nine starts came at middle linebacker. Bostic was in for 35 defensive snaps in the preseason opener, the most among Bears linebackers. This offseason, Shea McClellin has made the transition to linebacker after spending his fi rst two NFL seasons at defensive end. McClellin appeared in 28 games with 10 starts at defensive end with Chicago, accumulating 36 tackles, 6.5 sacks, one fumble recovery and fi ve tackles for a loss. Last season, McClellin started 10-of-14 games played totaling career-highs in tackles (29), sacks (four), fumble recoveries (one) and tackles for a loss (three). McClellin started at SLB and saw action in 29 defensive plays, recording two tackles. Khaseem Greene returns for his sophomore season after appearing in 15 games with four starts at weakside linebacker during his 2013 rookie season, collecting 39 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble. Greene was the primary weakside linebacker when Briggs went down with an injury. Greene had two tackles and a fumble recovery in the Bears fi rst preseason game vs. Philly. Returning for his third season with the Bears is Jerry Franklin who has seen action in 13 games as a special teamer over two seasons ( ) with Chicago, recording 8 special teams tackles. Last season, Franklin appeared in 10 games for the Bears. Franklin had a tackle on defense and special teams in the Bears preseason contest versus the Eagles. The Bears signed unrestricted free agent Jordan Senn in the offseason. Senn has totaled 88 tackles, one interception, three forced fumbles and 49 special team tackles in 83 games (seven starts) over six seasons with Indianapolis ( ) and Carolina ( ). Last season, Senn played in 14 games, collecting one tackle on defense and six on special teams. The Bears also signed undrafted rookie free agents Christian Jones (Florida State) and DeDe Lattimore (South Florida). Jones and Lattimore both had defensive stops in the preseason opener against the Eagles, with Lattimore adding a special teams tackle. DEFENSIVE BACKS (18) - Coach Jon Hoke CORNERBACKS (10) Two-time Pro Bowler (2011 and 2012) and 2013 Walter Payton Man of the Year Charles Tillman enters his 12th season with the team as the franchise s all-time leader in defensive touchdowns (nine), interception return yards (675) and interception return touchdowns (eight) while ranking third in Bears annals in interceptions (36). Since entering the NFL in 2003, the takeaway specialist ranks tied for fi fth in the league in interceptions and passes defensed (132), second in forced fumbles (42), fi fth in interception return yards and tied for second in interception return touchdowns. Tillman has started 150-of-154 career games adding 944 tackles, eight fumble recoveries and three sacks in his career. Tillman started at RCB in the preseason opener against the Eagles. Tim Jennings signed a four-year deal in January to remain with the Bears after earning two straight Pro Bowl nods (2012 and 2013). Over the last two seasons, Jennings is second in the NFL with 13 interceptions and tied for second in the league with three interception return touchdowns. In eight NFL seasons with the Colts ( ) and Bears ( ), Jennings has started 79-of-115 games played, collecting 444 tackles, 20 interceptions, 70 pass break ups, eight forced fumbles and fi ve fumble recoveries. Sixteen of his 20 career interceptions have come in the last four seasons with the Bears. Jennings did not play in the preseason opener. Entering his third season with Chicago and 10th NFL season overall, Kelvin Hayden has appeared in 101 contests (49 starts) with the Colts ( ), Falcons (2011) and Bears (2012), gathering 345 tackles, 12 interceptions, 44 pass break ups, six fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles and 28 special teams stops. Hayden has added four defensive return touchdowns during the regular season. He sat out 2013 due to a hamstring injury. Hayden had one tackle in the Bears fi rst game of the preseason. Isaiah Frey is in his third NFL season after spending last season as the Bears primary nickelback after appearing on the Bears practice squad during his 2012 rookie campaign.
