Players will be selected based on the following criteria. 1. Performance at tryouts 2. Coaches existing knowledge of players based on playing, coaching, observation 3. Information on players from other sources (adult competitive players, competitors, coaches) Performance at Tryouts 50% of evaluation will be dependant on Physical Fitness and Specific Skill 50% of the evaluation will be dependant on Communication and Teamwork, Attitude and Commitment, Perseverance Players To breakdown the Physical Fitness and Specific Skill evaluation, below is a list of player roles and the corresponding attributes required Handlers 3 4 Primary Handlers Who score high on... Can complete higher difficulty throws Is comfortable and able to throw through a hard mark Move the disc within 5 stalls Strong dump cutting (gets open quickly and effectively with tight coverage) Top 50% percentile fitness testing results * 1 2 Must possess strong defensive qualities and abilities Holds position (fights for space, doesn't chase, plays touchable) 5 6 Secondary Handlers Who score high on... 3 U19 Team Canada Women s Tryout Evaluation Physical Training Results of fitness testing in top 50% percentile Effects of training are obvious at tryouts Sport Specific Skills Throwing consistency (completes open side/ dump passes with low turnover percentage) Can complete higher difficulty throws (IO, OI, Long, Pull) Is comfortable and able to throw through a hard mark Moves the disc within 5 stalls Is able to read the disc and consistently catches the disc (low, high, lay outs) Is able to make catches with defensive pressure Has strong dump cutting (gets open quickly and effectively/ with tight coverage) Is able to make space on the field, strong breakside and swing cutting. Is able to get open downfield with tight coverage Is able to hold defensive position (fights for space, doesn't chase, plays within touching distance of mark) Has a strong mark (holds the force, is active and gets the mark on quickly) Transitions QUICKLY from defense to offense and offense to defense Communication Skills and Teamwork Responds to and/or gives constructive feedback Contributes to and is supportive of their peers Communicates effectively to team mates on the field and side line Acts in a respectful and considerate manner Accepts various roles and is eager to try something new Makes payments and fills out necessary forms in a timely fashion Attitude and Commitment Displays and self manages professionalism (comes to tryouts; early, prepared with nutritious foods, proper equipment, etc.) Looks for and acts on new ideas and opportunities Needs Improvement RARELY demonstrates Satisfactory OCCASIONALLY demonstrates Good USUALLY demonstrates Excellent CONSISTENTL Y demonstrates

5 U19 Team Canada Women's Commitment & Fees The week of March 9th, 2014 coaches will offer players a spot on Team Canada. Upon accepting their spot players will be committing to the following attendance, training, player conduct and estimated fees. Commitment Team Schedule Training Camp # 1 Vancouver June 6 7th Flowerbowl (tournament 1) Vancouver June 8th Training Camp # 2 Montreal June 26th 27th Jazz Fest(tournament 2) Montreal June 28th 29th Exhibition game (TBD) Lecco, Italy July 19th World Ultimate Junior Championship Lecco, Italy July 20th 26th Players are expected to attend all training camps and tournaments listed in the above schedule. We understand there will be extenuating circumstances, please discuss with coaches at tryouts if a player is unable to attend one or more of the team events. Training Within the first week of the team being formed a training document will be provided. Each week the athlete will be expected to complete; 2 Speed/agility workouts 1 Cardio workout 2 Specific skills training sessions The specific skills training can be and are recommended to be done after completing either a speed/agility workout or a cardio workout. This means each athlete is asked to commit to training hrs of training 3x per week. The training document can be adjusted if a player is involved in training with other ultimate teams and or other competitive sports.
6 Player Conduct Players will be asked to sign Ultimate Canada's Player Code of Conduct, aside from the code of conduct coaches will expect athletes to continuously display qualities of communication, teamwork, attitude, commitment, perseverance as outlined in the player evaluation. The player evaluation will be ongoing. Throughout the season, players will also be asked to complete goal setting, wfdf rules, anti doping and team building assignments. Participation in these assignments is mandatory. Fees *Estimate Pre Worlds Training camp #1 Vancouver & Flowerbowl Fees $60.00 Training Camp #2 Montreal & Jazz Fest Fees $ Jerseys $60.00 Worlds Accommodations in Italy $ Team Fee $38 Player Fee $ Food Package $ Coaches Fees $278 Total $1231 *This is an estimate of fees. Cost will be dependant on number of players selected for the team, the final costs of field rentals/ accommodation if necessary/etc. Please note,travel costs to and from training camps/tournaments and worlds are not included in this estimate. If selected a 250$ deposit will be required from players in confirming their spot on the team. A finalized budget including a payment schedule will be provided shortly after the team is selected. Players will be required to pay for all fees the team incurs over the season, regardless of injury or absence at training camp/tournament, the only exception being players whose injuries are severe enough forcing them to drop off the team. National team players will be receiving financial support from Ultimate Canada. These amounts have been factored into the above budget. The team will also be exploring and open to suggestions on grants, sponsorship and fundraising opportunities to lower the player fees.
