2 TEAM NOTES A WINNING SEASON SECURED With its seven wins, Duke has earned its fifth winning season in the last six years, the most successful stretch for the Blue Devils since five winning campaigns in six seasons between Duke has five seasons with seven or more wins in the last six years, marking the first time the Blue Devils have reached seven victories five or more times in six seasons since LOOKING FOR EIGHT Duke enters the bowl game looking for its eighth victory of the season. It would mark the fourth time in 11 campaigns under head coach David Cutcliffe reaching the eight-win plateau. Prior to Cutcliffe s arrival in 2008, the Blue Devils had not won eight games in a season since posting eight in A win would give Duke four seasons with eight or more wins in the last six years, the most successful stretch for the program since four in six from BOWLING AGAIN Duke will play in a bowl game for the sixth time in the last seven years. The Blue Devils had never been to consecutive bowls until accomplishing the feat from Prior to Cutcliffe s arrival in 2008, Duke had not been to a bowl game since the 1995 Hall of Fame Bowl against Wisconsin. Duke was in two bowl games from TWO BOWL WINS IN THE LAST THREE YEARS By capturing the 2015 New Era Pinstripe Bowl and Quick Lane Bowl, Duke is one of 21 Power 5 programs to have two or more bowl wins in the last three years. Duke trails only Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State, Utah and Wisconsin, which have three bowl wins. CUTCLIFFE IN BOWL GAMES Cutcliffe is 6-4 as a head coach in bowl games. The Walk-On s Independence Bowl will mark the 28th overall bowl game of his coaching career. LOOKING FOR A 3RD BOWL WIN Cutcliffe is looking for his third bowl victory with the Blue Devils. He and Bill Murray (1955 Orange Bowl & 1961 Cotton Bowl) are the only Duke coaches with multiple bowl victories. A TOUGH SLATE TAKEN ON IN Duke faced a stiff test in with 10 of its 12 foes becoming bowl eligible by the end of the campaign. The only two Duke contests without a bowl eligible foe were N.C. Central (FCS) and North Carolina. The Blue Devils join Pittsburgh and Florida State as ACC programs who took on 10 bowl-bound programs. DUKE IN LOUISIANA In program history, Duke is 1-1 in Louisiana, winning the 1945 Sugar Bowl and falling at LSU in DUKE vs. TEMPLE The Walk-On s Independence Bowl marks the first meeting between the two programs. DUKE AGAINST THE AAC The Blue Devils are against current members of the American Athletic Conference. The Gainesville, Fla., product collected 24 tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, two quarterback pressures, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup. He is tied for 36th in the ACC in sacks and tied for second among the league s freshmen. His 8.0 tackles for loss are the sixth most in a year by a rookie at Duke and tied for the second most by an ACC rookie this season. With Rumph II s selection, the Blue Devils have had a Freshman All-America for 16 straight years. LOOKING FOR THREE Seniors Ben Humphreys and T.J. Rahming are aiming to become the first players in Duke history to start three bowl game victories. The linebacker and wide receiver received starting nods in the Blue Devils 2015 Pinstripe Bowl overtime triumph against Indiana and Quick Lane Bowl victory versus Northern Illinois. 2 MARKED IMPROVEMENT, PART I Duke has 51 wins since In the previous 21 seasons, from , Duke recorded 54 victories: Seasons Wins Total Games Win % 2012-Present MARKED IMPROVEMENT, PART II Duke s success since 2013 is also a marked improvement from Cutcliffe s first five seasons in Durham: Seasons Wins Total Games Win % 2013-Present WINS SINCE 2013 Duke has captured 45 victories since the start of the 2013 campaign. Duke football ranks second among FBS schools with a 96 percent rate, behind only Northwestern (99). HELM NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT Redshirt senior tight end Daniel Helm was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District III first team for the first time in his career. Duke has had 23 CoSIDA Academic All-District nods in the last seven seasons.

3 OFFENSIVE NOTES NEARING THE SEASON S TOP 5 IN POINTS Duke has tallied 326 points this year. The performance is approaching the fifth-highest total in a single season for the Blue Devils. The top three totals have all come under the direction of head coach David Cutcliffe. A closer look at the five highest point totals by Duke: Year Total italics denotes Cutcliffe Era NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS ON OFFENSE Duke gears up for its fifth non-conference game of the season. The Blue Devils did not see much difference in yards per play or per game in nonconference competition, but did see a large spike in points per game. A closer look at Duke s nonconference and ACC production: Games Yds/Play Yds/Game Points/Game Non-ACC ACC TOUCHDOWNS PER GAME UP FROM Duke has scored 43 touchdowns in 12 games, an average of 3.58 TDs per contest. In, Duke scored 42 touchdowns in 13 games, good for an average of 3.23 per contest. AIMING FOR 30+ POINTS PER GAME AGAIN Duke averages points per game after averaging in and in The Blue Devils averaged or more points per game just seven times in program history: 33.50/1943; 32.79/2013; 32.38/2014; 32.70/1941; 31.54/2012; 31.54/2015; and 30.00/1994. FOUR WITH 40 OR MORE Duke has four games this season with 40 or more points, one behind the single-season record of five set in 2014 and LLOYD HONORED FOR OFF THE FIELD WORK Redshirt senior wide receiver Johnathan Lloyd has been honored multiple times this season for his contributions off the field. Lloyd was named a semifinalist for the second annual Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year, which focus primarily on a player s leadership, both on and off the field. Lloyd was also named the Freddie Solomon Community Spirit Award and was one of 11 student-athletes named to the FBS Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. DUKE PASSING TDS, PART I Duke owns 26 passing touchdowns, an average of 2.17 per contest. The 26 aerial scores are tied for 32nd nationally and the ACC s third most. DUKE PASSING TDS, PART II Duke s 26 passing touchdowns are tied for the third most in a season in program history: Year Passing Touchdowns BALANCE A KEY FOR THE BLUE DEVILS In Duke s five losses this year, the squad has averaged passing yards and on the ground. In the team s seven wins, the balance has been much better with Duke averaging aerial yards and rushing yards. TWO QUARTERBACKS, 7+ TD PASSES APIECE With redshirt junior Quentin Harris two-yard touchdown pass at Miami, he joined redshirt junior Daniel Jones as owners of seven or more touchdown passes. Harris has seven and Jones 17. The Blue Devils join Alabama, Minnesota, Oregon State, Texas Tech and Wake Forest as the only Power 5 programs with two players having seven or more TD tosses apiece. RECEIVING TOUCHDOWNS For the first time in program history, Duke has three players with five or more receiving touchdowns with senior wide receiver T.J. Rahming (6), redshirt senior tight end Davis Koppenhaver (6) and Lloyd (5). Rahming entered with three career TD receptions and doubled that output this season. Rahming and Koppenhaver s six receiving touchdowns are the 18th most in a year in program history and the most by a Duke player since Issac Blakeney s seven in In the first 12 games of, Duke s wide receivers combined for four touchdown receptions. This season, the unit has combined for 14 TD grabs. Of Duke s 26 receiving touchdowns this season, 21 are by seniors or redshirt seniors (.808 percent). KOPPENHAVER SETS CAREER RECORD Koppenhaver caught his 11th career TD versus North Carolina, surpassing Stan Crisson ( ) for the most in a career by a Duke tight end. Koppenhaver s six TD grabs are also tied for the second most in a year by a Blue Devil tight end: Tight End Season Receiving TDs 1. Stan Crisson Howard Pitt Davis Koppenhaver TDS/CATCH HIGH FOR KOPPENHAVER Koppenhaver has caught 48 career passes with 11 for touchdowns (22.9 percent). This season, Koppenhaver has 13 grabs for six scores (46.2 percent). RAHMING IN TOP 12 NATIONALLY Rahming stands 12th among FBS active leaders in career receiving yards (2,679). Rahming is also second in active FBS players in career pass receptions (241). 3 JONES WINNING WAYS With a victory versus North Carolina, Jones earned the 16th victory of his career, the third most by a Blue Devil: Duke QB Years Wins 1. Anthony Boone Jerry Barger Daniel Jones Present...16 With one more win in, Jones would join Anthony Boone (2013 & 2014) and Walt Rappold (1961 & 1961) as Duke QBs with multiple six-win seasons. ANOTHER PERFORMANCE Jones turned in the third game in program history against North Carolina with 361 yards passing and 186 rushing. Jones owns two of Duke s three performances with one versus Northwestern in. In ACC history, Jones joins Lamar Jackson (Louisville/5) and Tahj Boyd (Clemson/2) as the only quarterbacks with multiple games. Duke s only other performance was by Brandon Connette against Pittsburgh in 2013: Player (Year) Opponent Rush Yds Pass Yds Connette (2013)... Pittsburgh Jones ()...Northwestern Jones ()...North Carolina JACKSON HITS 400 ALL-PURPOSE YARDS Sophomore running back Deon Jackson set the Duke record for all-purpose yards in a game with 403 at Pittsburgh, becoming just the third ACC player to reach 400 all-purpose yards in a contest: Player (School) Opponent (Year) Yards Tobias Palmer (Clemson)...N.C. State (2012) John Leach (Wake Forest)...Maryland (1993) Deon Jackson (Duke)...Pittsburgh () CARRYING THE LOAD With injuries to sophomore running back Brittain Brown and redshirt freshman running back Marvin Hubbard III, Duke has relied heavily on Jackson in the last seven games. Jackson s 806 rushing yards this season are the 14th most in a year in program history. Under Cutcliffe, no Duke running back has gained more than 818 ground yards, totaled by senior Shaun Wilson in the campaign. JACKSON S ALL-PURPOSE YARDS Jackson enters the bowl game with 1,495 allpurpose yards, the ninth most in a year in program history. Against ACC foes only, Jackson led the league with all-purpose yards per contest, 27.4 yards per game ahead of Boston College s Michael Walker at yards per game. In the last five games, Jackson has averaged yards per touch (60 rushes, 17 receptions and 17 kickoff returns for 961 yards). TFLs ALLOWED PER GAME GOING DOWN Duke has allowed an average of 5.67 tackles for loss per game, more than one fewer per contest than the squad surrendered in (6.69).

4 DEFENSIVE NOTES FOUR STARTERS OUT WITH INJURIES In week two at Northwestern, junior cornerback Mark Gilbert suffered a season-ending hip injury. Gilbert was named to six preseason All-America squads and was a unanimous first team All-ACC selection. In week six at Georgia Tech, redshirt senior starting defensive tackle Edgar Cerenord was lost to a season-ending injury after rupturing his right Achilles tendon. In week 10 versus North Carolina, junior starting safety Dylan Singleton went down with a fractured left ankle. Redshirt junior starting linebacker Joe Giles-Harris also has missed the last three contests with a knee injury sustained at Miami. HUMPHREYS A FINALIST Senior linebacker Ben Humphreys was named a finalist for a pair of awards this winter. Humphreys was a finalist for the Ninth Annual National College Football Award, presented by the Pop Warner Little Scholars. The award was established in 2010 to recognize a graduating senior who has made a difference on the field, in the classroom and in his community and serves as a role model to Pop Warner s young student athletes. The Newport Beach, Calif., native was also a finalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy. The qualities embodied by the award are Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity. YOUNG SECONDARY FORCED INTO ACTION With the injuries sustained by Duke s secondary, the Blue Devils are starting a pair of sophomores and a pair of redshirt freshmen. The lone upperclassman of the starting group is redshirt junior cornerback Brandon Feamster, who had not started a game prior to this season. SCORING IN ONE HALF OR THE OTHER In the regular season, just seven opponents scored in both halves against the Blue Devils: Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Pittsburgh, North Carolina, Clemson and Wake Forest. Duke pitched first half shutouts against Army West Point and Baylor and second half blankings versus Northwestern, N.C. Central and Miami. LOOKING FOR INTS Duke has recorded just three interceptions this season. A year ago, the Blue Devils had 15 INTs through the first 12 games. Through 12 games in Duke had also recorded 50 pass breakups while this year s defense has totaled 31. STEPPING UP ON THIRD DOWN In the last five games, opponents are a combined 28-of-69 (.406 percent) on third down attempts. In the three previous contests, foes were a combined 22-of-50 (.440 percent) on third down. LIMITED PASSING SUCCESS Duke has held opponents to 16 passing touchdowns, the fourth fewest in the ACC and tied for the 37th fewest nationally. Foes have posted a quarterback rating against Duke, the fifth-best mark in the league. Opponents are averaging yards passing per game, which would give Duke s defense consecutive years of 201 or fewer passing yards a contest for the first time since Before North Carolina threw for 221 yards, Duke had held four consecutive opponents to fewer than 200 passing yards, the longest streak for the Blue Devils since five consecutive from September 12-October 10, It was the first time Duke has accomplished the feat against four consecutive Power 5 programs since October 10-November 7, TURNOVER UPS AND DOWNS Duke s defense forced two turnovers at Miami and has just two in the last six games. Central Virginia Tech Georgia Tech Virginia Pittsburgh Miami North Carolina Clemson Wake Forest TURNOVERS CREATED = WINS In Duke s five losses this season, the defense has not created a turnover. The lone games the Blue Devils have won without a turnover gained were against N.C. Central and North Carolina. LITTLE FOURTH DOWN SUCCESS After allowing Army West Point to convert all four fourth down attempts during the season opener, the Blue Devils have yielded just seven fourth down conversions during the last 11 games. DUKE FORCING & RECOVERING FUMBLES Duke, which recovered just four fumbles last season, has eight fumble recoveries this year. The Blue Devils recovered three fumbles at Georgia Tech, their most in a contest since three against North Carolina on November 20, 2014, and recovered two more at Miami. Duke has also forced 15 fumbles by 12 different Blue Devils. Only Victor Dimukeje (2), Singleton (2) and Derrick Tangelo (2) have more than one forced fumble. INTO THE QB SACK COLUMN Against Wake Forest, junior end Tre Hornbuckle booked his first sack of the season while freshman tackle Tahj Rice got the first of his career. 4 HILL MAKES FIRST CAREER START With Giles-Harris out, redshirt sophomore Brandon Hill made his first career starts the last three weeks. Hill carded a personal-best 13 tackles against Wake Forest and has two double-digit tackle performances in the last three games. Hill owns 31 tackles in the last four weeks after having 12 in his career entering the game at Pittsburgh. YOUNG IV RETURNS HOME, STARTS In place of Singleton, redshirt freshman safety Lummie Young IV made his first career starts the last two weeks, at No. 2 Clemson and versus Wake Forest. A native of Anderson, S.C., Young IV finished with seven tackles versus the Tigers and tacked on a career-high 15 versus Wake Forest. He owns 22 tackles in the past two weeks after having 10 career stops entering the game at Clemson. GILES-HARRIS IN THE 300 CLUB Giles-Harris became the 20th Blue Devil to reach 300 career tackles with his 10 stops at Pittsburgh. Under David Cutcliffe, Giles-Harris (313) is the seventh Blue Devil to reach 300 career tackles. Giles-Harris recorded his 14th career double-digit tackle contest at Miami with a game-high 12 stops. 5 SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES JACKSON S STRONG KOR PERFORMANCE Sophomore Deon Jackson registered 152 kickoff return yards at Pittsburgh, marking the most by a Blue Devil in a game since Shaun Wilson had 181 at Pittsburgh on November 19, Jackson entered the game against the Panthers with 133 career kickoff return yards. Jackson is ranked seventh in the ACC in kickoff return average this season (22.15). RAHMING BACK FOR PUNT RETURNS For the second consecutive season, senior T.J. Rahming is Duke s top option at punt returns. Rahming has 117 yards on punt returns this season after totaling 91 yards in all of. Rahming had the best punt return performance of his career at Baylor, running back three punts for a personal-best 59 yards.
