Aug. 30, 2008 SCORE BY QUARTERS FINAL Western Michigan Nebraska Nebraska won its 23rd consecutive seasonopening victory, giving Coach Bo Pelini a win in his debut as NU s head coach. Quarterback Joe Ganz led a high-octane Nebraska offense throughout the night, producing his fourth consecutive 300-plus yard passing game in his fourth consecutive career start. Along the way, he became the first NU quarterback to throw for 300 or more yards four times in his career. Senior wide receiver Nate Swift hauled in five passes for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Place-kicker Alex Henery shared the scoring load with four field goals of 44 yards each. Sept. 13, 2008 SCORE BY QUARTERS FINAL New Mexico State Nebraska Joe Ganz and Marlon Lucky made history as the Nebraska football team cruised to a 38-7 win over New Mexico State. Ganz led the way by becoming just the third Nebraska player in history to score touchdowns by run, pass and catch in the same game. He joined Heisman Trophy winners Johnny Rodgers (1973 Orange Bowl vs. Notre Dame) and Eric Crouch (vs. California, 1999) in that prestigious group. Lucky also did plenty of damage, notching the eighth 100-yard rushing game of his career. He became the 24th running back in Nebraska history to cross the 2,000-yard mark in his career, as he reached the milestone on a career-long 58-yard run in the second half. Oct. 4, 2008 SCORE BY QUARTERS FINAL Missouri Nebraska Missouri s high-powered offense helped the No. 4 Tigers end a 30-year losing streak in Lincoln with a victory over Nebraska on Homecoming at Memorial Stadium. The Huskers watched Chase Daniel lead Missouri on scoring drives on eight of its first nine possessions in the opening three quarters to take a commanding lead. In a classic Big 12 showdown filled with big plays, Nebraska quarterback Joe Ganz hit senior wide receiver Todd Peterson on a 17-yard touchdown strike with 29 seconds left to cap the Huskers 14- point fourth-quarter comeback and tie the score at 31 to end regulation. Ganz led Nebraska on three scoring drives in the fourth quarter as he ran in the first score from the 1 and then connected with tight end Dreu Young for the second before answering TTU s go-ahead score with 2:21 to play. In perhaps their best half of football of the season, the Huskers amassed 349 yards of total offense in the first half on their way to a 21-0 lead. Nebraska opened the scoring with Nate Swift s 19-yard reception from Joe Ganz with 5:27 left in the opening quarter. Swift, who had eight catches for 112 yards, became the second player in school history with more than 2,000 receiving yards, finishing the day with 2,021 career yards. Ganz completed 27-of-37 passes for 328 yards and one touchdown, leading a balanced arsenal that rolled up 548 yards of total offense, including 220 yards on the ground. Swift became NU s career reception leader on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Joe Ganz with 1:15 left in the third quarter. The catch gave NU a lead and provided the senior with his 144th career catch, moving him ahead of 1972 Husker Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers. It was Swift s eighth catch of the day but he wasn t done yet. After the Husker defense held Baylor on its next drive, Ganz hit Swift on a 53-yard touchdown strike to put NU ahead and seal Nebraska s fifth win of the year.
