The Yellow Jackets are coming off a disappointing loss at USF last Saturday. Tech led by 10 points in the fourth quarter but saw USF score 21 unanswered points to close the game. Last Saturday s loss was Georgia Tech s sixth in a row away from Bobby Dodd Stadium. The Jackets have squandered double-digit leads in five of those six defeats. The six-game skid in games played away from home is the Yellow Jackets longest since it lost seven-straight road tilts from Tech opens its 36th season of ACC play on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets are all-time in ACC openers. The Jackets are opening conference play against Pitt for the second year in a row. Last season, GT stomped the Panthers, at Bobby Dodd Stadium. BB KirVonte Benson and QB TaQuon Marshall each ran for over 100 yards (196 and 112, respectively) in the rout. Georgia Tech trails the all-time series against Pitt, 7-5, but has won 3-of-5 matchups since the Panthers joined the ACC in Georgia Tech s offense is one of the nation s best through two games this season, averaging rushing yards (first nationally), total yards (12th nationally) and 39.5 points per contest. Should the Yellow Jackets wind up playing three top-10 teams, it would mark the third time in the last four seasons that they do so (the Jackets also played three top-10 teams in 2015 and 2017). Prior to 2015, Tech had not faced three top-10 opponents in the same season since 1983 (which was its first season as a full-fledged member of the ACC). 4Georgia Tech joins Ball State, SMU and Syracuse as the four teams in the nation that have three active players that have each rushed for 1,000 yards or more in their careers (TaQuon Marshall - 1,408, KirVonte Benson - 1,169 and Clinton Lynch - 1,108). Research courtesy of Syracuse University 5 Georgia Tech s 2018 schedule is ranked as the fifth-toughest in the nation by Bleacher Report and is the toughest schedule in the ACC according to Athlon. 6 With 439 rushing yards in the season opener against Alcorn State and 419 last Saturday at USF, Georgia Tech has rushed for at least 400 yards six times in its last 13 games, dating back to the beginning of last season. 11 Georgia Tech s 602 yards of total offense against USF last Saturday were the 11th-most yards gained in program history. 23 Twenty-three of the yard rushing games in Georgia Tech history have come in Paul Johnson s 10-plus seasons as the Yellow Jackets head coach (2008-pres.). Since Johnson s arrival on The Flats, Georgia Tech has rushed for 400 yards in a game 23 times in 131 contests (once every 5.7 games). Prior to his arrival, the Yellow Jackets had rushed for 400 yards in a game eight times in 1,138 contests (once every games). 36 Georgia Tech begins its 36th season of ACC play on Saturday at Pitt. The Yellow Jackets are all-time in ACC openers. 2 A GEORGIA TECH WIN WOULD... up its record to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in ACC play; snap a six-game losing streak in games played away from home and a five-game skid in true road games; be its first win away from home since a victory over Kentucky in the 2016 TaxSlayer Bowl (Dec. 31, 2016); be its first win in a true road game since a triumph at Georgia on Nov. 26, 2016; give the Yellow Jackets at least two wins in their first three games for the 15th-straight season; up it to all-time in ACC openers, including a 9-2 mark under head coach Paul Johnson; be its second-straight over Pitt and fourth in six matchups since the Panthers joined the ACC in 2013; up it to 6-7 all-time against Pitt; be its second win in six all-time trips to Pitt; A GEORGIA TECH LOSS WOULD... drop it to 1-2 for first time since 2003; be its seventh-straight loss in games played away from home and its sixth-straight loss in true road games; be only its third defeat in 11 ACC openers under head coach Paul Johnson; drop it to all-time in ACC openers; drop it to 5-8 overall and 1-5 on the road against Pitt.

3 2018 GEORGIA TECH FOOTBALL GAME NOTES NOTING LAST WEEK S LOSS AT USF Georgia Tech allowed two kickoff returns for touchdowns and squandered a 10-point fourth-quarter lead in a loss at USF last Saturday. Despite allowing 98- and 97-yard kickoff returns for scores by USF s Terrence Horne in the first quarter, Georgia Tech (1-1) rebounded to take a lead with 14:15 to go in the ballgame on backup quarterback Tobias Oliver s third rushing touchdown of the day. However, USF (2-0) scored 21 unanswered points to close the game. After USF cut the deficit to 38-35, Georgia Tech appeared to be en route to extending the lead back to 10 points and, perhaps, putting the game out of reach. However, a key fumble on USF s 12 yard line squelched the scoring opportunity and the Bulls marched 88 yards in 10 plays to take a lead with 5:08 to go. After a GT interception (the Jackets third turnover of the game), USF scored again with 2:13 to go to seal the win. Georgia Tech amassed 602 yards of total offense, the 11th-most in school history. The Yellow Jackets rushed for 419 yards, marking the second time in two games this season and the sixth time in 13 games dating back to the beginning of the 2017 season that they have rushed for at least 400 yards. Georgia Tech dropped its sixth-straight game away from home and its fifth-straight true road game. Despite missing significant time in the second half due to a lower-body injury, Georgia Tech senior quarterback TaQuon Marshall passed for a career-high 183 yards and ran for 113 more. It marked the third time in his career that he rushed and passed for at least 100 yards in the same game, the seventh time that he has rushed and passed for a touchdown in the same game and the seventh 100-yard rushing game of his career. Marshall s 81-yard touchdown pass to senior AB Clinton Lynch in the first quarter tied for the 10th-longest pass play in program history and was the Yellow Jackets longest pass play since Lynch scored on an 83-yard pass from Justin Thomas at North Carolina on Nov. 5, Lynch finished with a career-high 111 receiving yards on three catches, becoming the first Georgia Tech individual with 100 receiving yards in a game since Ricky Jeune at Virginia on Oct. 31, Despite only playing a little more than a quarter, Oliver, a redshirt freshman, ran for three touchdowns (five, one and one yards). It was the 48th time in Tech history that an individual has rushed for three touchdowns in a game. USF s 266 yards on kickoff returns were the second most that Georgia Tech has ever surrendered in a game (prev.: 267 by North Carolina Nov. 10, 2012). USF s two touchdowns on kickoff returns matched an NCAA record. NOTING PITT Pitt fell to 1-1 this season with a 51-6 home loss to No. 13 Penn State last Saturday. The Panthers opened the season with a 33-7 win over Albany on Sept. 1. Pitt has outscored its opponents, 39-21, in the first half of games this season but has been shutout, 37-0, after halftime. Pitt is playing its third-straight home game to open the season. Pitt ranks last in the ACC and 122nd among 128 NCAA Division I FBS teams in passing offense (112.0 ypg). The Panthers also rank 106th nationally in scoring offense (19.5 ppg) and 113th in red-zone offense (.667). The Panthers are led by senior RB Qadree Ollison, who ranks fifth in the ACC and 35th nationally with 192 rushing yards on the young season. Defensively, senior linebacker Quintin Wiggins paces Pitt with 12 total tackles, including a 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack. NOTING LAST YEAR S WIN OVER PITT Georgia Tech outgained Pittsburgh, , including a advantage on the ground, in a win in the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams on Sept. 23 at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Georgia Tech overcame four turnovers in the convincing win. Pitt s 235 total yards remain the fewest that Georgia Tech has allowed in an ACC game since Clemson managed just 190 yards in the Yellow Jackets 28-6 victory on Nov. 15, The Panthers 37 rushing yards remain the fewest surrendered by Tech in any game since Virginia ran for only 22 yards in the Jackets triumph on Nov. 1, In addition to limiting Pitt (1-3, 0-1 ACC) to just 235 yards and 10 offensive points (the Panthers scored on an 80-yard punt return by Quadree Henderson), the Yellow Jackets defense forced seven three-and-outs in 13 defensive series. Four of the seven three-and-outs came in the possessions that immediately followed the Jackets four turnovers. The Yellow Jackets 436 rushing yards remain their most in an ACC game since they had 479 yards on the ground in a win over NC State on Oct. 18, Georgia Tech BB KirVonte Benson (196) and QB TaQuon Marshall (112) both rushed for at least 100 yards in the win. Benson s 196 rushing yards remain tied for the 16th-most in Georgia Tech history and the most by a B-back in head coach Paul Johnson s 10-plus seasons as head coach (prev.: Anthony Allen vs. Virginia, Oct. 9, 2010). GEORGIA TECH-PITT SERIES HISTORY Georgia Tech and Pitt are meeting for the 13th time overall and the sixth time since the Panthers joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in Pitt leads the overall series, which dates back to 1918, 7-5. However, the Yellow Jackets have won 3-of-5 games since the Panthers joined the ACC in 13. Georgia Tech easily dispatched Pitt in their first two ACC matchups in 2013 and in Pitt won the next two meetings on late-game field goals a 56-yarder with 1:11 remaining that lifted the Panthers to a victory at Bobby Dodd Stadium in 2015 and a 31-yarder as time expired in a win in Pittsburgh in Georgia Tech snapped its two-game skid against Pitt with a convincing triumph last season in Atlanta. Prior to becoming conference-mates in 2013, Pitt had won all five regular-season meetings with Georgia Tech (1918, 1919, 1920, 1974 and 1976) but the Yellow Jackets had won both postseason matchups (in the 1956 Sugar Bowl - following the 1955 season - and in the 1956 Gator Bowl). GEORGIA TECH IN ACC OPENERS Georgia Tech is in Atlantic Coast Conference openers since officially beginning ACC play in Georgia Tech is 8-2 in ACC openers under head coach Paul Johnson. Since Johnson took the helm in 2008, the Jackets only losses in conference openers came in 2012 (20-17 in OT at Virginia Tech) and 2015 (34-20 at Duke). Johnson s record in ACC openers is particularly impressive considering that the Yellow Jackets have only opened ACC play at home three times in his first 10 seasons as head coach (2009 vs. Clemson, 2011 vs. North Carolina, last season vs. Pitt). Georgia Tech is playing its ACC opener away from home for the 22nd time in 36 overall seasons in the league. The Jackets are 12-9 in ACC openers played away from home. In addition to Marshall and Benson accomplishing the feat four times last season, QB Matthew Jordan (121 yards) and BB Marcus Marshall (143) both surpassed the century mark in a win at No. 18 Virginia Tech on Nov. 12, Prior to having two 100-yard rushers five times in the last 17 games, Georgia Tech had two different players gain 100 yards on the ground in the same game only 29 times in school history. Last Saturday at USF, Georgia Tech fell just eight yards shy of the ultra-rare feat of having three players rush for 100 yards in the same game. Marshall led the way with 113 yards on the ground, followed by backup QB Tobias Oliver (97 yds.) and B-back Jordan Mason (95). Tech has only had three 100-yard rushers in the same game once in program history Oct. 26, 2013 vs. Virginia (Zach Laskey - 133, Robert Godhigh and David Sims - 107). Had Oliver gotten just three more yards against USF, it would have also marked the first time in Georgia Tech history that two quarterbacks rushed for 100 yards in the same game. In Johnson s 10-plus seasons as head coach of the Yellow Jackets, Tech has been outgained on the ground just 18 times in 131 games. Georgia Tech has committed six turnovers through just two games this season (3.0 per game). The Yellow Jackets have turned the ball over three times in each of their two games this season. Tech had not had as many as three turnovers in a game since they lost four fumbles in a win over Pitt on Sept. 23 of last season. Last season, GT committed eight turnovers in its first 284 offensive plays of the year (one turnover every 35.5 snaps), but had only six turnovers in its last 467 plays of the campaign (one turnover every 77.8 snaps). Georgia Tech has played 263-consecutive games without being shut out, good for the seventh-longest active streak in NCAA Division I FBS. The Yellow Jackets have not been held scoreless since a 38-0 loss at No. 3 Florida State on Oct. 18, Even more impressively, Georgia Tech has not been blanked at home since a 7-0 loss to Georgia on Nov. 30, 1957 good for a streak of 376-straight games played at Bobby Dodd Stadium without being shut out. 6 OFFENSE The Yellow Jackets had a streak of 10-consecutive games that ran from Nov. 12, 2016 (at Virginia Tech) through Oct. 21, 2017 (vs. Wake Forest). At the time, it was the fifthlongest active streak in the nation and the second-longest active streak in the ACC. It was also tied for the fourthlongest string of games with 24 points or more in Georgia Tech history. GT scored touchdowns on all three series, with Oliver capping each drive with a touchdown (five, one and one yards). Of the 23 plays that Oliver was on the field for, he carried the ball himself 18 times and accounted for 97 of the 189 yards that the Yellow Jackets gained while he was in the game. Facing a critical third-and-nine play with less than 12 minutes to go in the game, Marshall re-entered the game in place of Oliver. Oliver finished with 97 yards on 18 carries (5.4 avg.) and three touchdowns, all on the ground, against USF. Despite only playing for a little more than a quarter, Oliver s three touchdowns marked the 48th time in Georgia Tech history that an individual has rushed for three TDs in a game. Oliver also impressed in his first collegiate appearance versus Alcorn State on Sept. 1. He rushed 12 times for 72 yards (6.0 avg.) and led the Yellow Jackets on a 17-play, 91- yard drive that saw him come up just short of a touchdown on fourth-and-goal.

7 2018 GEORGIA TECH FOOTBALL GAME NOTES OFFENSE Despite playing for approximately just two full quarters this season, Oliver ranks 49th nationally and ninth in the ACC with 169 rushing yards this season. He ranks ninth nationally and fourth in the ACC in rushing yards by quarterbacks. Oliver s three rushing touchdowns this season are tied for 13th nationally and second in the ACC (tied for fourth nationally and tied for first in the ACC among QBs). With a season-ending foot injury sustained by presumed backup quarterback Lucas Johnson during preseason camp, Marshall was the only quarterback on Georgia Tech s roster that came into the 2018 season with any collegiate playing experience. He played just two quarters in the opener, after sitting out the first quarter due to a minor violation of team rules and the fourth quarter when most of GT s regulars were removed from the game. Last Saturday at USF, Benson ran for 41 yards on just five carries (8.2 avg.) but left the game during Georgia Tech s second offensive possession due to a lower-body injury. Despite the limited action (less than three quarters of play), Benson ranks 14th in the ACC with 116 rushing yards this season. Benson, who did not have a collegiate carry prior to last season, rushed for 1,053 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore in He ranked fifth in the ACC and 35th nationally with 95.7 rushing yards per game last season. Benson became only the third B-back in Paul Johnson s 10 seasons as head coach to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, joining Jonathan Dwyer (2008 and 2009) and Anthony Allen (2010). Benson s 196 rushing yards against Pitt on Sept. 23 of last season are tied for the 16th-most in Georgia Tech single-game history and are the most by a B-back in Johnson s 10 seasons as Tech s head coach (prev.: Anthony Allen vs. Virginia, Oct. 9, 2010). Benson is on the official watch list for the 2018 Maxwell Award, presented to America s College Player of the Year. He is joined on the list by Georgia Tech quarterback TaQuon Marshall. Getting the lion s share of the carries at B-back in Benson s absence this season has been redshirt freshman Jordan Mason. Mason made the most of the opportunity to start the Sept. 1 season opener against Alcorn State in place of Benson, rushing for a game-high 85 yards on 11 carries (7.7 avg.). Mason scored the first touchdown of his career and Georgia Tech s first touchdown of the season on a 28- yard run just 2:55 into the opener against Alcorn State. After Benson left the game with a lower-body injury in the first quarter of last Saturday s game at USF, Mason carried the ball 13 times for 95 yards (7.3 avg.). WIDE RECEIVERS After catching just four passes as a junior last season, senior wide receiver Brad Stewart has already surpassed that total with five receptions through two games this season. Stewart set a career high four catches against Alcorn State on Sept. 1, surpassing his previous career-high of three, which he achieved three times (twice as a sophomore in 2016, once as a freshman in 2015). Stewart s four catches against Alcorn State included the second touchdown reception of his career when quarterback TaQuon Marshall found him wide open in the corner of the end zone for a 24-yard scoring strike. After going the first 33 games of his career without a touchdown catch, Stewart now has two in the last five games. On Nov. 11 of last season, Stewart hauled in a 60- yard touchdown pass in the Jackets win over No. 17 Virginia Tech. Stewart leads all current Yellow Jackets with 29-consecutive starts (the next-longest streak on the team belongs to junior OL Parker Braun, who has made 21-straight starts). Stewart has also played in all 38 of Georgia Tech s games since he arrived on campus in He is one of only two student-athletes on the Yellow Jackets current roster that has played all 38 games since the beginning of 15, joining senior LB Victor Alexander. The starter opposite Stewart is sophomore wideout Jalen Camp. Camp, who had only one reception as a redshirt freshman in 2017, has three catches through two games this season, including a career-high two against Alcorn State. 7

9 2018 GEORGIA TECH FOOTBALL GAME NOTES DEFENSE In its first season under new defensive coordinator Nate Woody, Georgia Tech s defense ranks among the national leaders in total defense (286.0 ypg - 24th) and passing defense (135.5 ypg - 14th). Woody s 3-4 defense recorded Georgia Tech s first shutout in 57 games in the Yellow Jackets 41-0 victory over Alcorn State on Sept. 1. The shutout was the Yellow Jackets first since they blanked Syracuse, 56-0, on Oct. 19, Georgia Tech s defense also limited Alcorn State to just 146 yards of total offense, which is the second-lowest yardage total allowed by the Yellow Jackets in head coach Paul Johnson s 10-plus seasons at the helm. The only time that the Jackets surrendered fewer yards during Johnson s tenure came in his fifth game at Tech, when they allowed just 132 yards in a 27-0 win over Duke on Oct. 4, While Georgia Tech s offense put 34 points on the board against Alcorn, the Yellow Jackets defense didn t need any of them, as it alone outscored the Braves, 7-0. Inside linebacker David Curry provided the defensive points when he scooped up a fumble caused by nose tackle Brandon Adams and returned it 15 yards for a touchdown. The fumble return for a touchdown was Georgia Tech s first since P.J. Davis returned a fumble 38 yards for a score during the Yellow Jackets win over Kentucky in the 2016 TaxSlayer Bowl. In all, Georgia Tech forced three turnovers in the season opener against Alcorn State, which marks one of only two times in the past 15 games that the Yellow Jackets had three takeaways in a contest (GT also forced three turnovers against Jacksonville State on Sept. 9 of last season). Georgia Tech has forced four turnovers through two games this season after not recording a single takeaway over the final three games of last season. Georgia Tech has featued six first time starters Adams, Sr. OLB Jalen Johnson, So. SS Tariq Carpenter, Sr. FS Malik Rivera*, So. CB Jaytlin Askew and redshirt Fr. CB Tre Swilling and played a whopping nine true freshmen DL T.K. Chimedza, DL Justice Dingle, LB Jordan Domineck, DL Quon Griffin, LB Quez Jackson, DB Jaylon King, LB Charlie Thomas, DB Juanyeh Thomas and CB Zamari Walton on defense this season. * Rivera started 18 games in three seasons at Wofford before transferring to Georgia Tech as a graduate student for this season. Woody came to The Flats from Appalachian State, where he served as defensive coordinator from Over his last three seasons at App State ( the program s first three campaigns as full-fledged members of FBS), the Mountaineers 3-4 scheme had average national rankings of 15th in scoring defense, 19th in total defense, 28th in rushing defense and 28th in passing defense. Appalachian also averaged 24 takeaways, 19 interceptions and 35 sacks per season over the last three campaigns, all areas where Georgia Tech ranked among the bottom 20 teams nationally in DEFENSIVE LINE Georgia Tech s three starting defensive linemen seniors Desmond Branch, Kyle Cerge-Henderson and Anree Saint-Amour have combined to play in 86 games and make 32 starts for the Yellow Jackets. GEORGIA TECH DEFENSIVE LINE START CHART Career Career 2018 Consec. Games Starts Starts Starts DE Anree Saint-Amour NT Kyle Cerge-Henderson DE Desmond Branch TOTALS This season marks the first time that Georgia Tech s entire starting defensive line is comprised of seniors since 1989, when seniors Willie Burks (DT), Jeff Mathis (NG) and Sean Smith (DT) were the starting linemen for the Jackets 7-4 squad under head coach Bobby Ross (one season before Tech won its fourth national championship). LINEBACKERS After missing the entire 2017 season due to a foot injury, junior inside linebacker David Curry is tied for Georgia Tech s team lead with 10 tackles on the young season. Curry, whose career high for tackles coming into the season was three, has recorded four (Alcorn State) and six (USF) tackles in Georgia Tech s two games this season. The tally against USF likely would ve been higher but he was ejected for a targeting call in the fourth quarter of last Saturday s tough-luck loss. Due to the ejection, Curry must also sit out the first half of this Saturday s ACC opener at Pitt. He was one of two Yellow Jackets flagged for targeting by American Athletic Conference officials at USF (sophomore DB Tariq Carpenter was ejected in the first quarter). Curry scored Georgia Tech s first defensive touchdown of the season when he scooped up a fumble forced by nose tackle Brandon Adams and returned it 15 yards for a score early in the third quarter of the shutout win over Alcorn State on Sept. 1. The fumble return for a touchdown was the Yellow Jackets first since P.J. Davis returned a fumble 38 yards for a score during the Jackets win over Kentucky in the 2016 TaxSlayer Bowl. Curry s return to action this season came following a series of injuries that kept him out of action last season (foot) and cost him time this past spring (thumb). The heart and soul of Georgia Tech s defense is senior co-captain Brant Mitchell, who starts at the other insidelinebacker position beside Curry. Mitchell has six tackles through two games this season. As the Yellow Jackets middle linebacker last season, Mitchell ranked fourth on the team with 51 tackles despite playing in only seven full games and parts of two others due to a lower-body injury. His 5.7 tackles per game led the team. In his first full game after returning to the lineup against No. 17 Virginia Tech on Nov. 11, Mitchell recorded a teamhigh nine tackles, including a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss, and was named ACC Co-Linebacker of the Week. In all, Georgia Tech went just 1-3 in the four games that Mitchell missed all or part of last season. Despite cracking the starting lineup for the first time as a junior last season, Alexander has played in all 38 of Georgia Tech s games since he arrived on campus in He is one of only two student-athletes on the Yellow Jackets current roster that has played all 38 games since 15, joining senior WR Brad Stewart. Georgia Tech s fourth linebacker position the stinger OLB is manned largely by a trio of individuals that were tabbed for the secondary prior to Woody s arrival on The Flats senior Jalen Johnson, junior Christian Campbell and true freshman Charlie Thomas. Despite previously being limited to the defensive backfield and special teams, Johnson and Campbell have combined for 52 career tackles and four tackles for loss, including 12 stops and two TFL through two games this season. Johnson is tied for third on the team with eight tackles. DEFENSIVE BACKS Last season, Georgia Tech s starting secondary was comprised of five veterans that combined to make 127 starts and play in 218 games. However, none of the five members of last year s starting secondary returned in Lawrence Austin, Lance Austin, Step Durham and Corey Griffin all graduated while A.J. Gray had to step away from football due to a heart condition. In their wake, the defensive backs listed on Georgia Tech s two-deep combined for zero starts and just 27 games played prior to this season. Of the nine DBs listed on Tech s two-deep, three are sophomores (CB Jaytlin Askew, SS Tariq Carpenter and CB Ajani Kerr), two are redshirt freshmen (CB Tre Swilling and SS Kaleb Oliver) and three are true freshmen (CB Jaylon King, FS Juanyeh Thomas and CB Zamari Walton). The lone upperclassman in the group made his NCAA Division I FBS debut against Alcorn State. Graduate student Malik Rivera earned the starting nod at strong safety after transferring to Georgia Tech from Wofford, where he had 131 tackles over the past three seasons. Rivera s position coach at Wofford the last two seasons (and defensive coordinator in 2017) was Shiel Wood, who now serves as Georgia Tech s safeties coach. An incredible student, Rivera graduated from Wofford in May as a triple-major in mathematics, finance and computer science. He is pursuing a master s degree in quantitative and computational finance at Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech s two interceptions this season belong to free safeties Carpenter (vs. USF) and Oliver (vs. Alcorn State). Carpenter s interception came just one defensive series before he was ejected for targeting and lost for the final three-plus quarters at USF. Since his ejection occurred in the first half, he will be eligible to play for the entirety of Saturday s ACC opener at Pitt. The other senior among Georgia Tech s starting linebackers, OLB Victor Alexander, led the Yellow Jackets with 60 tackles in his first season as a starter last year. 9

Harvin has only been called upon to punt three times this season and has boomed a 48-yarder (vs. Alcorn State) and a 62-yarder (vs. USF). Last season, Harvin III led all NCAA Division I FBS true freshmen, ranked 16th overall nationally and was second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 44.1-yard punting average last season. Harvin became only the third FWAA freshman all-american in school history (joining OL Will Jackson, 2010, and PK Travis Bell, 2004) and the first Georgia Tech freshman to earn all-acc recognition since Calvin Johnson (first-team WR) and Bell (second-team PK) in 04. True freshman Juanyeh Thomas earned the job as Georgia Tech s primary punt and kick returner during fall camp. Thomas 25-yard punt return in the second quarter of the Sept. 1 season opener against Alcorn was Georgia Tech s longest punt return since Brad Stewart s 26-yarder versus Miami (Fla.) on Oct. 1, Thomas 38-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter of last Saturday s game at USF was the longest by a Yellow Jacket since Lamont Simmons scooped up an onside kick attempt and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown at Miami (Fla.) on Oct. 14 of last season. USF s 266 yards on kickoff returns last Saturday which included 98- and 97-yard returns for touchdowns by Terrence Horne in the first quarter were the second-most yards that Georgia Tech has ever allowed on kickoff returns in a single game (second only to North Carolina s 267 yards in a GT win on Nov. 10, 2012). The two touchdowns allowed on kickoff returns against USF tied an NCAA Division I FBS single-game record. Harvin s 44.1-yard average was also a Georgia Tech freshman record and ranked fifth overall in single-season program history. GEORGIA TECH PUNTING AVERAGE SINGLE SEASON Player Year Avg. 1. Rodney Williams Durant Brooks Jason Bender Durant Brooks Pressley Harvin III* Dan Dyke* Ryan Rodwell Jeff Pierce Ron Rice Rodney Williams * freshman Of Harvin s 50 punts last season, 13 traveled 50-plus yards (26 percent), 16 were downed inside the 20 yard line (32 pct.), 15 were fair-caught (30 pct.) and 29 were not returned (58 pct.). Making Harvin s freshman campaign even more impressive was that two of his best performances have come in less-than-ideal conditions for punting he recorded careerbests with a 62-yard punt and four kicks downed inside the 20 yard line at Miami (Fla.) on Oct. 14 and had five punts that traveled 50 yards or more and three downed inside the 20 at Clemson on Oct. 28. The majority of both games were played during heavy rain storms. Following his incredible rookie campaign, Harvin III was named freshman all-america by the Football Writers Association of America, true freshman all-america by ESPN and was a third-team all-acc honoree. Harvin III is on the official watch list for the Ray Guy Award, which is presented annually to college football s top punter. He was first added to the list midway through his prolific freshman campaign last fall. 10

11 2018 GEORGIA TECH FOOTBALL GAME NOTES MISCELLANEOUS Bobby Dodd Stadium has been home sweet home for Georgia Tech of late, as it has won nine of its last 10 home games, dating back to midway through the 2016 season. However, on the flip side, Georgia Tech has struggled in games played away from its Midtown Atlanta home as of late. The Yellow Jackets have lost all six games played away from Bobby Dodd Stadium dating back to the beginning of last season and are in search of their first win away from home since their win over Kentucky in the 2016 TaxSlayer Bowl (Dec. 31, 2016) and their first true road win since their triumph at Georgia on Nov. 26, GEORGIA TECH HOME VS.
