Tate and Arkansas State's Blake Mack are the only two players to have at least one touchdown catch in every team game this season. Tate s TD reception was his team-leading 11th in 23 career games. The Irmo, S.C. native is also FSU s active leader with 44 career receptions and 721 receiving yards. He is averaging one TD every four receptions and 16.3 yards per reception in his career, despite averaging just 1.9 receptions per game. Florida State has a touchdown pass in 13 consecutive games, and Tate has the lone TD reception in five of those contests; four this season and also against Wake Forest in In terms of touchdown-to-reception productivity, Tate s 1:4 ratio is ahead of FSU s top 10 career TD reception leaders. Akers had his second consecutive 100-yard game at Duke, rushing for 115 yards on 15 carries after notching 121 yards against Miami on Oct. 7. Akers is the fifth true freshman in FSU history to record consecutive 100-yard rushing games, joining Dalvin Cook (three games in 2014), Devonta Freeman (2011), Sammie Smith (1986) and Greg Allen (three games in 1981). Cook's 1,008 rushing yards in 2014 set the single-season FSU record for rushing yards by a freshman. Akers' 42-yard touchdown run with 8:23 remaining at Duke was his first career score and proved to be the game winner in FSU's win. Patrick finished with 98 yards on 18 carries at Duke. Patrick has 309 yards over the past three weeks after 120 yards at Wake Forest and 91 yards against Miami. Akers leads in total rushing yards ( ), but Patrick has the edge in yards per rush ( ). Yards the Seminoles drove in the fourth quarter against the Blue Devils, capped by Cam Akers' 91» game-winning touchdown run. It was the longest touchdown drive of the season by yards. GROUND GAME GROWING BEHIND TANDEM The Noles have set a season high rushing output in each of their first five games, while facing some of the top run defenses in the country. At Duke Saturday, FSU had a season-high 228 rushing yards (5.7 ypc) against the Blue Devils' seventh-ranked (at the time) rushing defense. Blackman went 7-for-7 for 81 yards and a touchdown, extending his streak to 15 consecutive completions, as the Noles jumped out to a 7-0 lead on the Blue Devils. Blackman s 15 consecutive completions he connected on his final eight against Miami in a 9-for-10 fourth quarter performance left him one reception shy of the FSU record of 16 shared by Christian Ponder (2009) and Danny Kanell (1995). 6 NATIONAL HONORS GAME NOTES: DEFENSE Ricky Aguayo, K Groza Watch List OH WHERE S THE RUSH? Florida State s stingy rush defense is allowing just yards per game, a mark that ranks 21st nationally. Only one opponent has crossed 150 yards rushing against the Seminoles this season, as Alabama posted 173 in the season opener. Three of FSU s five opponents have been held to under three yards per carry, which occurred in three straight games against NC State (2.97), Wake Forest (2.82) and Miami (2.86). The Hurricanes posted just 83 yards on 29 rushes against the Seminoles on Oct. 7, the lowest by an FSU opponent this season. Pass breakups against No. 13 Miami, the most for the Seminoles since 2008 and tied for the highest single-game total in the NCAA this season. Adding one interception, FSU s 13 passes 12» defended against the Hurricanes are the most in a game by an ACC team in 2017 and tied for the third-highest total in the NCAA this season. SWEAT THERAPY Junior Josh Sweat has emerged as FSU s most consistent edge rusher this season, leading the Seminoles in sacks (2.5) and tackles-for-loss (5.5). In FSU s last game at Duke, Sweat came up with one of the biggest plays of the game. He sacked Duke QB Daniel Jones on the game s final drive at the Duke 36, allowing nearly 30 seconds to tick off as the Blue Devils tried to come back from a deficit. Sweat's sack of Jones was the Seminoles' only sack of the game. In the season opener vs. Alabama, Sweat garnered ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors after posting five tackles, which included a seven-yard sack. JAMES ALL OVER THE FIELD Redshirt sophomore DB Derwin James has been everywhere this season. The preseason All-American leads FSU with 29 tackles this year. James is second on the Seminoles with four pass break-ups, and also has 1.5 tackles for loss to go along with 0.5 sacks. James had five tackles and two PBUs in a strong performance at Miami two weeks ago, then followed by tying for the team lead with six tackles at Duke. He was part of a strong secondary that held Miami to a 43.1 completion percentage, as QB Malik Rosier went just 19-of-44 in the air. PB-UNIVERSITY In Florida State s loss to Miami on Oct. 7, the Seminole defense was credited with 12 pass break-ups. It was the fourth time under head coach Jimbo Fisher that the Seminoles have recorded at least 10 PBUs in a game, and the first double-digit PBU game since a win over Notre Dame on Oct. 18, It was FSU s most PBUs in a game since recording 13 on Oct. 4, 2008, at Miami. In that contest, Rhodes Scholar and FSU DB Myron Rolle led FSU with four PBUs. PUGH HOPES FOR ANOTHER BIG DAY VS. LOUISVILLE In Louisville s last visit to FSU on Oct. 17, 2015, current senior linebacker Jacob Pugh recorded one of his best career performances vs. Lamar Jackson and company. In the Seminoles win, then-sophomore Pugh drummed up a career-best two sacks on Jackson and led FSU with seven tackles. The two sacks accounted for a loss of eight yards. Despite the loss to the Cardinals last year, Pugh tied a career best with two TFLs. BEHIND THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE Through five games played, Florida State s active defense is averaging 6.8 tackles-for-loss per game. The Seminoles dropped Miami for six TFLs two weeks ago and recorded 10 in its previous game against Wake Forest for a total of -48 yards. The Seminoles had amassed double-digit TFLs in consecutive weeks, also recording 10 in their second game of the season vs. NC State. In its last game at Duke, FSU had a season-low four TFLs. They have 34 TFLs for -138 yards this season and rank 43rd nationally in tackles-for-loss per game. It was his first career interception. Meyers also forced a Wake Forest fumble in the third quarter that was recovered by Jalen Wilkerson. Auden Tate had one catch for seven yards entering the final minute of the fourth quarter but his 40-yard reception for the game-winning touchdown extended his streak to three straight games with a TD catch. Freshman QB James Blackman engineered the first game-winning touchdown drive of his FSU career with just 53 seconds remaining, ending with his second career touchdown pass to Tate. Jacques Patrick s 69-yard run from the FSU 1-yard-line was the longest of his career and FSU s longest of the season. It highlighted a 120-yard game for Patrick. True freshman Cam Akers added 58 yards. His 27-yard run on FSU s first drive of the third quarter was a career long. Kicker Ricky Aguayo added four field goals in the game. His first, from 51 yards, was the longest of his career. It was his second straight game with four made field goals. Aguayo has made eight straight field goals over the last two weeks, the most for an FSU kicker since his brother Roberto made 23 straight in Keith Gavin s 81-yard kickoff return was FSU s longest since Kermit Whitfield s 100-yard return against Auburn in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game.
