Nebraska had an NCAArecord 35year bowl streak from The next longest active bowl streak in the country is Virginia Tech s 25 straight The Seminoles' current streak of 41 consecutive winning seasons is second in FBS history, trailing only a stretch of 42 straight winning seasons compiled by Notre Dame from Florida State made its first trip to the WalkOn s Independence Bowl, which became the 17th different bowl to host the Seminoles. FSU improved to 116 in first bowl game appearances. FSU's 3822 victory at Florida was a programrecord fifth straight in the series and extended the schoolrecord winning streak in Gainesville to four The Seminoles won five of their last six games, including each of their final four. In their seasonending fourgame winning streak, the Seminoles outscored their opponents 19951, including a 776 win vs. Delaware State that tied Oregon s output against Southern Utah for the most points scored in a game by an FBS team in 2017 FSU s 199 points scored in its last four games marked the highestscoring fourgame stretch for the program since 2013 when the Seminoles scored 221 total points vs. Syracuse, vs. Idaho, at Florida and vs. Duke in the ACC Championship Game Florida State tied for 1st in the ACC and 2nd in the NCAA with six blocked kicks in The Seminoles block total was their highest since blocking six in It also marked the first season since 2010 with a punt block and a field goal block in the same season. In the 2724 win vs. Syracuse, the Seminoles blocked two field goals in the same game for the first time since Sept. 27, 2003, at Duke The Seminoles converted 26 of their final 27 red zone opportunities, with the only nonconversion coming when time ran out at the Independence Bowl, and had 22 touchdowns in that stretch. FSU finished the season 44of48 (.917) in the red zone with 31 touchdowns. Since 2010, FSU s red zone percentage of.915 is the best in the country and nearly a full percentage point higher than Oklahoma State, which ranks second with a scoring percentage of.906. The nextbest red zone percentage in the ACC since 2010 is Wake Forest s.852 SEMINOLES.COM 1

2 FSU BOWL HISTORY GAME NOTES: OFFENSE AllTime Record: NOLES END 2017 ON FOURGAME WIN STREAK Florida State finished 2017 with a 76 overall record, the 41st consecutive season the Seminoles have had a winning record. That is one year shy of tying the alltime mark, held by Notre Dame from FSU also won the 2017 Independence Bowl 4213 over Southern Miss. The appearance was FSU's 36th straight year in a bowl game, passing Nebraska's 35year stretch from for the longest in NCAA history. FSU was led offensively by a pair of true freshmen, quarterback James Blackman and running back Cam Akers. Blackman started the final 12 games of the season after starter Deondre Francois was injured in the season opener against Alabama. Akers made four starts while splitting time with Jacques Patrick, running for an FSU freshmanrecord 1,024 yards. Junior wide receiver Auden Tate caught 40 passes for 548 yards and led the ACC with 10 touchdown catches after snagging three in the Independence Bowl against Southern Miss. RARE 300YARD RUSHING PERFORMANCE Buoyed by the 100yard rushing games of Jacques Patrick (155) and Cam Akers (117), Florida State s offense cranked out a 300yard rushing game in their bowlclinching victory over ULM. The Noles rushed for 305 yards on 45 carries and powered into the end zone five times. It was FSU s first 300yard rushing game since Nov. 19, 2016 at Syracuse (45334, 4 TDs) and just the eighth 300yard game in the last 10 seasons. FSU s five rushing touchdowns equaled its season high on the ground (Delaware State). Ten of the Noles 18 rushing touchdowns in 2017 came in those two games. It marked the 10th time in 10 seasons the Noles have rushed for 5 or more TDs in a game. The last time the Noles rushed for more than 5 TDs in a game came against USF on Sept. 24, 2016, when they ran up 478 yards on the ground with 6 rushing TDs. That was also the last time FSU had two backs eclipse 100 yards in the same game. PATRICK REGAINING FORM Junior tailback Jacques Patrick turned in the secondhighest rushing performance of his career when he powered his way to 155 yards on 19 carries, including a pair of TD runs, against ULM. Patrick led the Noles in rushing for the second consecutive game, continuing his bounceback from a midseason injury which kept him out of the lineup for two games. Patrick scored six of his seven rushing touchdowns over the final five games of the season, including two each against Delaware State and ULM. Patrick, who announced in early January he would return for his senior season, enters 2018 tied for 18th on FSU's career rushing touchdown list with 16. Patrick finished second on the team with 748 rushing yards and tied with freshman Cam Akers for the team lead with seven rushing touchdowns. His 1,412 career rushing yards leaves him just 194 shy of cracking FSU s alltime top 20. BLACKMAN TOP TRUE FRESHMAN PASSER IN FSU HISTORY True freshman QB James Blackman had 10 TD passes during FSU's seasonending fourgame winning streak. Blackman recorded the most passing yards (2,230) and TD passes (19) by an FSU true freshman in program history. Blackman was the first FSU true freshman to start at quarterback since Chip Ferguson in Blackman saved his best performance of the season for the bowl game, finishing with 233 passing yards and a careerhigh four touchdown passes, setting the mark for most passing touchdowns in a game in the Independence Bowl's 42game history and was named Offensive MVP. LINE CONTINUITY & OFFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT Florida State started the same offensive line unit Josh Ball (LT), Derrick Kelly II (LG), Alec Eberle (C), Cole Mishew (RG) and Rick Leonard (RT) for the final nine games of the season. Of that group, only Leonard (graduation) does not return in That s the longest streak of consecutive starts by the same five players since the 2013 National Championship season when Cameron Erving (LT), Josue Matias (LG), Bryan Stork (C), Tre' Jackson (RG) and Bobby Hart (RT) started the final 12 games. 3 GAME NOTES: OFFENSE TATE ENDS SEMINOLE CAREER ON HIGH NOTE Junior receiver Auden Tate caught three of James Blackman's four touchdown passes in the Independence Bowl, tying an Indy Bowl record for most touchdown catches. That pushed Tate's season total to 10 touchdowns (on just 40 catches), the most in the Atlantic Coast Conference and tied for 16th nationally. Tate's 10 touchdown catches tied for 13th most in a season at FSU and his 16 career touchdowns are tied for 19th. Tate announced in January he would declare for the NFL Draft. Fellow junior receiver Nyqwan Murray tied with Tate for the team lead with 40 catches and led FSU with 604 yards. Murray returns for his senior season in AKERS CLIPS COOK'S FRESHMAN RECORD Tailback Cam Akers ran for a gamehigh 94 yards on 13 touches in the Independence Bowl to move past Dalvin Cook as FSU's most prolific freshman running back. Akers four 100yard rushing performances were the secondmost alltime among FSU freshmen. FSU True Freshman Rushing Leaders Player Year Rushes Yards YPC TD 100yd Games Cam Akers Dalvin Cook Greg Allen Akers had touchdowns of 54 and 63 yards vs. Syracuse, just the second time at FSU that a player ran for two 50yard touchdowns in a game (Chris Thompson vs. Wake Forest, 2012, 74 and 80). From the moment Akers signed with Florida State, it was suggested that he may be the heirapparent to alltime rushing leader Dalvin Cook. After one year, there is mounting evidence that the two share similar bigplay ability, especially when comparing their freshman season performances. Greg Allen did it twice in 1981, highlighted by his stillstanding singlegame school record. Akers performance ranks fifth alltime among Seminole freshmen. Izzo's 761 receiving yards, including 59 in the Indy Bowl, rank third in school history. His 60yard TD reception at Clemson was the longest by an FSU tight end since Lonnie Johnson s 78yard TD grab against the Tigers in The Highland Lakes, N.J., native ranked fifth on the team in receptions (20), third in receiving yards (317) a career best and was third with a singleseason careerbest 3 TD grabs.
