This week s game marks the third home game among FSU s first four games before the Seminoles go nearly a month before their next home game. Florida State and Northern Illinois are meeting for the second time in their history. The first matchup came in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, 2013, a game the 12th-ranked Seminoles won over No. 15 NIU. Since joining the ACC in 1992, Florida State is (.758) in regular season non-conference games, including a record of (.836) inside Doak Campbell Stadium. The Seminoles have won 14 straight non-conference home games, the 3rd-longest active streak in the ACC. FSU s streak, which began in the 2013 national championship season, trails only Clemson s 18 straight and Miami s 17 straight wins in non-conference home games. Miami s streak does not include its loss in the 2017 Orange Bowl played at the Hurricanes Hard Rock Stadium. Willie Taggart is 1-0 in his career against Northern Illinois. He led South Florida to a home victory over the Huskies on Sept. 10, In their win vs. Samford, the Seminoles forced five turnovers courtesy of four interceptions and one fumble recovery. The five turnovers were the most forced by FSU since forcing seven in a win at Wake Forest in 2013, and the four interceptions were the most since a win vs. Idaho in The four interceptions also tied for the most by a Willie Taggart-coached team, while the five total turnovers tied for the third-highest total of Taggart s career. Florida State completed 31 passes, all by Deondre Francois, in the win against Samford. The total was the highest by a Willie Taggart-coached team and tied for the 13th-highest individual single-game total in FSU history. Despite an average age of only 46.2 years old when the 2018 season began Sept. 3, Florida State's 11 full-time coaches entered the 2018 season with 224 years of combined coaching experience and collectively have experience in every Power 5 conference. The Seminoles current streak of 41 consecutive winning seasons is second in FBS history, trailing only a stretch of 42 straight winning seasons compiled by Notre Dame from Florida State's streak of 36 straight bowl games dates back to the 1982 Gator Bowl. Nebraska had 35-year bowl streak from that was the previous NCAA record. The next longest active bowl streak in the country is Virginia Tech s 25 straight. Taggart has led remarkable turnarounds at each of his three previous head coaching positions. In the season prior to his hire, the programs Taggart inherited were a combined 7-29, and the best team he took over before arriving at FSU was a 4-8 Oregon squad. His overall record is 48-52, including a mark since the start of the 2015 season. From , his offenses had the fourth-highest points-pergame average among FBS head coaches behind only Mike Gundy, Kliff Kingsbury and Urban Meyer. In 2017, Oregon ranked in the top 30 in the NCAA in 15 different statistical categories, including boasting the 12th-best rushing offense in the country rushing for yards per game and the 18th-highest scoring offense averaging 36.0 points per game. On defense, the Ducks ranked 24th in the country in third-down defense allowing a.333 conversion percentage and 27th in fourth-down defense at.417. The defense had one of the best performances of the season against Arizona s Khalil Tate, who ranked seventh in the NCAA with an average of rushing yards per game, holding him to only 32 yards rushing in a victory. Showcased by Taggart s Gulf Coast Offense, running back Royce Freeman rushed for 1,475 yards and ranked 10th in the country with an average of rushing yards per game in His rushing total allowed him to break the program record for career rushing yards with 5,621 yards, the sixth-highest total in NCAA history. Freeman was a third-round draft pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2018 NFL Draft and led a group of four former Taggart pupils selected. The 2018 NFL Draft marked the fourth straight year at least three former Taggart players were taken. BY THE NUMBERS Taggart returned home to the Tampa Bay area prior to the 2013 season to take over a South Florida team that won three games in 2012 and turned the Bulls into one of the most exciting programs in the country by In his final year at the helm in Tampa, Taggart led South Florida to a 10-2 record and No. 25 ranking in the final regular season poll, the team s first ranking since 2011 and only the second time in program history the Bulls were ranked at the end of the regular season. With Taggart serving as the primary play caller, his offense broke 33 program records in 2016, including scoring, total touchdowns, total yards, rushing yards, yards per play, yards per rush and points per game. Quarterback Quinton Flowers was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year after becoming the first USF player to post 2,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing in the same season, highlighting a program-record 10 allconference selections. His first head coaching job was one of the most difficult reclamation projects in the country, taking over his alma mater that had lost 20 games in a row. He quickly led Western Kentucky to its first two winning seasons since transitioning from FCS to FBS and in 2012 saw the program reach its first bowl game. The Hilltoppers had a 12-2 stretch from Oct through Oct with their only two losses coming to No.1-ranked LSU and top-ranked Alabama. Taggart transitioned to coaching after starting as Western Kentucky's quarterback all four years and breaking 11 school records, highlighted by his 47 rushing touchdowns, and left school holding the NCAA Division I record for rushing yards by a quarterback Points per game in three-plus years running the Gulf Coast Offense, which debuted in ,000-yard rushers under Taggart in 8 seasons as a head coach, including NFL Draft picks Royce Freeman (Oregon) and Marlon Mack (USF, 3x). Total offense per game since 2015 when Taggart implemented his Gulf Coast Offense point games for Taggart's Gulf Coast Offense since Taggart's teams produced six 40-point games over his first five seasons. NFL Draft picks that Taggart has led as head coach, most recently Royce Freeman and Tyrell Crosby (Oregon) and Deadrin Senat and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (USF) in Oregon points scored against Southern Utah in 2017, most in the country last season (tied with FSU's 77 against Delaware State). 3

5 ALL-TIME vs. NORTHERN ILLINOIS GAME NOTES: GM. 4 VS. N. ILLINOIS Date Location Score AP Rank NOLES FACE NORTHERN ILLINOIS Florida State returns to Doak Campbell Stadium for an afternoon matchup against Northern Illinois (1-2) in a game that will air nationally on ESPNU at 3:30 p.m. The Huskies and Seminoles have met just once prior, in the Orange Bowl following the 2012 season. FSU beat the MAC champions in that game, the second in a school- and ACC-record 29-game winning streak. NIU enters the game after a win over Central Michigan last week in the MAC opener. FSU will be the third 'Power 5' opponent for NIU this season, having previously dropped games against Iowa (33-7) and Utah (17-6). FSU AGAINST THE MAC Florida State has never lost a current member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC), posting a perfect 5-0 record against the active membership. The Seminoles are 1-0 against Ohio, Northern Illinois and Toledo, and 2-0 against Western Michigan. FSU last faced a MAC team in the regular season in 2006, when the Noles beat Western Michigan on Homecoming. ABOUT THE HUSKIES Northern Illinois leads the MAC West division after a win against division-foe Central Michigan last week. The victory snapped an overall four-game losing streak for the Huskies and a four-game losing streak against the Chippewas. Sophomore quarterback Marcus Childers threw three touchdown passes and running back Tre Harbison ran for 124 yards. NIU set season highs in points (24), rushing yards (180) and total offense (284) against the Chippewas. Antonio Jones-Davis has 28 tackles on the season, with 16 coming against CMU. On the season, the Huskies have yet to record a rushing touchdown. The NIU special teams unit has been superb to start the season, recording a blocked punt against Iowa and Central Michigan and a blocked field goal against Utah. W, /16 *Orange Bowl Overall: 1-0 Home: 0-0 Away: 0-0 Neutral: ORANGE BOWL RECAP MIAMI GARDENS, FL -- For the first time since the 1999 national championship season, the Florida State football team can boast of a BCS bowl victory. Thanks to its triumph over Northern Illinois in the Orange Bowl early Wednesday morning, FSU will also take with it back to Tallahassee 12 wins in a season for just the second time in program history. Credit strong final-game performances by senior offensive starters EJ Manuel and Lonnie Pryor and a defense that was simply too big, too fast and too strong for NIU and do-it-all quarterback Jordan Lynch with this long-awaited streak-busting victory. Manuel threw for 298 yards and one touchdown with no turnovers and became just the second quarterback in FBS history to win four straight bowl games, joining former West Virginia signal caller Pat White while Pryor rushed for a career-high 134 yards with scoring scampers of 60 and 37 yards in in the first and second halves, respectively. For his efforts -- and his 26.8 yards-per-carry average -- Pryor was named the game's MVP. Lynch still might not be able to believe the defense he had to play against. Third in the nation in total offense and fourth in rushing entering the game, Lynch set the MAC on fire as a junior while leading his team to a conference championship but he hadn't seen a defense the caliber of FSU's all year long. Lynch finished the game with just 44 yards rushing (well below his yards-per-game average) and just 176 yards passing on 41 attempts. Most damaging, however, was the third-quarter interception he threw into the willing arms of 'Noles safety Terrence Brooks when his team was on verge of tying the game following a surprise third-quarter onside kick. Vince Williams added 10 more tackles and a sack in his final game and Lamarcus Joyner, who, like Jones, said he will take some time to make a decision about turning pro early or not, added six stops and a tackle for loss. FSU finished with three sacks and five tackles for loss while holding the Huskies to a well-below-their-average 3.5 yards per play. 6

6 2018 STAT LEADERS GAME NOTES: OFFENSE Passing Yards 731 Deondre Francois FRANCOIS JOINS SELECT COMPANY Quarterback Deondre Francois was interception-free in a 31-of-46 passing performance as FSU rallied past Samford for a victory. Francois passed for 320 yards and three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 4:03 remaining in the game. It marked just the 12th time since 1973 (45 years) that an FSU quarterback attempted 40 passes in a game without an interception. Francois, Christian Ponder and Peter Tom Willis are the only Noles to have done it twice and Francois is the only one to have won both games. Heisman Trophy winners Chris Weinke and Charlie Ward also had 40-attempt games without an interception, as did Drew Weatherford, Thad Busby, Danny Kanell and Rick Stockstill. Francois produced an interception-free 33-of- 52 performance (419 yds, 2 TDs) in his 2016 debut against Ole Miss in Orlando, when he rallied the Noles to a victory. He also had 39 attempts without an interception at NC State, rallying FSU to a win in Pick-Free, 40-Attempt Performances Player, Yr. C-A-I-Yd-TD Opp. D. Francois, ' Samford (W) D. It was his second rushing touchdown of the season and seventh of his career. Through three games Francois has completed 71 of 117 pass attempts for 731 yards and three touchdowns. His 60.7 completion percentage is ahead of his 2016 pace, when he completed 58.8 percent of his attempts. He is responsible for all five of FSU s offensive touchdowns this season, with three passing scores to go along with his two on the ground. In FSU s win over Samford, Francois guided the Noles back from a halftime deficit for the fourth time in his career. He did it three times in 2016: vs. Ole Miss and at Miami and NC State. His 5-yard TD pass to tight end Tre McKitty with 4:03 remaining against Samford marked his third game-winning scoring pass in the fourth quarter. In 2016 Francois' 19-yard TD pass to Travis Rudolph with 3:09 left was the difference in a win at NC State. The Noles prevailed over Michigan in the 2016 Orange Bowl on his 12-yard TD pass to Nyqwan Murray with 36 seconds remaining. Francois two-point conversion pass to Murray against Samford for a lead was FSU s first successful two-point conversion in 73 games. FSU was 0-of-4 on two-point conversion attempts since quarterback EJ Manuel s pass to Nick O Leary in a win at Virginia Tech in Francois became the 15th 4,000-yard passer in program history against Samford and with 178 yards against Syracuse he has 4,291 career yards through the air, tying Peter Tom Willis for 13th on FSU s all-time list. His 18 pass completions against the Orange pushed his career total to 325 and past Casey Weldon (323) into 12th place all-time among Noles. With 320 passing yards against Samford, Francois tied Charlie Ward for ninth on FSU s all-time list with six 300-yard games. His 24 career TD passes are good for a share of 19th among Seminoles with Kelly Lowrey. Against Samford, Francois completed 31 passes, equaling the 13th-best single-game mark, which he shares with Ward and Bill Cappleman. RECEIVING CONTRIBUTIONS Through three games 10 Noles have collected at least one pass reception, including three Tamorrion Terry, Khalan Laborn and Ontaria Wilson who have notched the first of their careers. Terry collected the first two TD receptions of his career against Samford, while McKitty s game-winning TD reception was also his first. Terry collected scoring grabs of 27 and 17 yards against the Bulldogs for the first two-touchdown reception game by a Noles freshman since Rashad Greene in 2011 vs. Charleston Southern. McKitty, a sophomore who has 10 receptions already this season, came into the year with just one career catch. His 5-yard TD catch vs. the Bulldogs late in the fourth quarter put the Noles ahead to stay. 7 GAME NOTES: OFFENSE MURRAY CONTINUES TO PRODUCE Senior receiver Nyqwan Murray leads the Noles in receptions (14) and receiving yards (146) through three games after collecting three receptions for 31 yards at Syracuse. The Orlando, Fla., native has at least one reception in 21 consecutive games played; a streak which began Oct. 29, 2016 vs. Clemson. He owns the longest consecutive game receptions streak for a Seminole since Travis Rudolph, who caught passes in 31 straight games through the conclusion of the 2016 season. Rashad Greene owns the FSU record at 43 games. Murray has 87 career receptions for 1,256 yards and 9 touchdowns. He is 20 receptions and 326 yards from moving into the top 25 on FSU s career lists. GAVIN GRABS 6 AT SYRACUSE Junior receiver Keith Gavin flirted with a new single-game high in receptions when he hauled in six passes from Deondre Francois for 79 yards both FSU bests against Syracuse. Gavin s 79 yards were a career-best total, eclipsing his previous best of 78 vs. Delaware State last season. His single-game high in receptions remains seven, which came against Alabama in the 2017 season opener. The Crawfordville, Fla., native ranks second on the team with 11 receptions and 144 yards through three games, well ahead of pace for his single-season highs of 27 receptions and 278 yards last season. AKERS' YPC UP FROM '17 Sophomore tailback Cam Akers ran for a teamhigh 52 yards on 10 carries at Syracuse and leads the Seminoles with 210 rushing yards this season. Akers is currently averaging 5.5 yards per carry, which is slightly better than his 2017 season average (5.3), when he broke Dalvin Cook s single-season freshman rushing record. He had runs of 16 and 17 yards in the Carrier Dome that were his third and fourth runs between yards this season. He has 32 career runs in that range. Akers broke off a career-best 85 yarder against Virginia Tech in the season opener. That is the longest non-touchdown run in FSU history and tied Rock Preston (vs. Duke, 1995) for the 7th-longest run in program history. The 85-yard run against the Hokies was Akers ninth career rush in excess of 20 yards. Longest Runs, FSU history Player, Yr. Minshew started 13 games at right guard last season. The Seminoles have played 10 different offensive linemen through three games. Center Alec Eberle, right guard Mike Arnold and left tackle Jauan Williams are the only Noles to start in the same position for all three games. Eberle, a redshirt senior and team captain, made his 35 consecutive start at Syracuse. He was named to the preseason Outland Trophy, Rimington Trophy and Wuerffel Trophy watch lists. Derrick Kelly II has started every game over the past two seasons a streak of 16 and has 21 starts in his career. He was at left guard against Virginia Tech in the opener and at right tackle each of the last two games. Arnold and Jauan Williams earned their first career starts against Virginia Tech. Against Samford, Arthur Williams made his first career start at left guard. The fifth-year senior was moved from the defensive line during fall camp. Redshirt sophomore Landon Dickerson, who suffered season-ending injuries in 2016 and 2017, was the starter at right tackle in the opener against Virginia Tech, but has missed the last two games. Dickerson s 12 career starts are third-most among active Noles on the offensive line. In addition to the seven Noles who have started along the line, Abdul Bello, Brady Scott and Baveon Johnson has also seen action in reserve duty. 8 NATIONAL HONORS GAME NOTES: DEFENSE Ricky Aguayo Preseason 1st Team All-ACC (Athlon) SACK MASTER BURNS Junior defensive end Brian Burns recorded more than one sack for the second time in three games this season at Syracuse, where he totaled two sacks among his three TFLs and also added one PBU. It was the eighth time in Burns career that he has registered more than one sack in a game. He picked up a career-best 3.0 sacks two years ago at Syracuse. He leads the Seminoles with 3.5 sacks this season and 17.5 in his career. TAYLOR THE GAME-CHANGER Junior defensive back Levonta Taylor sealed FSU's first win in the Taggart era when he recorded a 63-yard pick six with 2:23 left on Sept. 8 vs. Samford. It was Taylor's second pick-six in his last four games played. He was the last Seminole to take an INT back for a score, doing so against Florida on Nov. 25, The Virginia Beach, Va., native is only the 15th Seminole to record multiple touchdowns on interception returns in his career. THIS JACKSON S FOR REAL Junior linebacker Dontavious Jackson recorded a career-high 14 tackles at Syracuse last game, which included 2.0 tackles for loss. Jackson s 14 tackles are the most by a Seminole this season and the most since Matthew Thomas had 15 tackles at Boston College on Oct. 27, Jackson's 14 tackles were more than threetimes his previous high of four, done three times, most recently in the 2018 season opener against Virginia Tech. NOLES BEARING DOWN The season is young and the sample size is small, but the Seminole defense has held its own on fourth down so far. Virginia Tech (0-for-1), Samford (0-for-1) and Syracuse (0-for-1) were each unsuccessful trying to convert on fourth downs in the first three games of the year. With 44 seconds left in the third quarter and it being a two-score game, Virginia Tech was stuffed on 4th and goal from the FSU 1 as Demarcus Christmas blew up a rush on the right side. In desperation time on Samford's last drive, the Bulldogs were unable to convert a 4th-and-7 from their 28 with 51 seconds left trailing Sophomore Joshua Kaindoh's QB hurry helped cause the incomplete pass. The Seminoles stopped Syracuse QB Eric Dungey on a 4th-and-1 attempt at the FSU 25 in the second quarter, with the hit coming from Asante Samuel Jr. MEYERS MAKIN' PLAYS Junior defensive back Kyle Meyers has been one of FSU's most consistent members of the secondary in the young season. He recorded two timely picks on Sept. 8 against Samford, his second and third career interceptions. The New Orleans native is the first Seminole to pick up multiple INTs in a game since teammate Levonta Taylor had two picks last year against Florida (Nov. 25, 2017). Meyers is tied with LB Dontavious Jackson for second on the team with 2.0 TFLs this season, and also owns a forced fumble. TAKEAWAY MACHINE Florida State's defense was opportunistic in its win over Samford, forcing five turnovers against the Bulldogs. Four of FSU's five turnovers forced were interceptions, the program's first four-int game since recording the same amount vs. Idaho on Nov. 23, 2013, in an win over the Vandals. Senior DB A.J. Westbrook recorded his first interception, while sophomore DB Cyrus Fagan recovered his first fumble, both in the first half against Samford. DT Marvin Wilson was credited with the forced fumble vs. the Bulldogs. OH WHERE'S THE RUSH? Through its first three games against Virginia Tech, Samford and Syracuse, Florida State's defense is allowing just 3.3 yards per carry by the opposition. Samford finished with just 50 rush yards on 19 attempts, while the Hokies had 112 on 40 totes (2.8 yards per rush). Samford's leading rusher, Roland Adams, had just 34 yards on the ground against the Seminoles. Syracuse averaged 3.9 yards per rush against the Seminoles, the most allowed by FSU this season. LEAN, MEAN, NASIRILDEEN Sophomore defensive back Hamsah Nasirildeen had his second straight careerbest tackles performance vs. Samford on Sept. 8. He led the Seminoles with 12 tackles only five days after a team-high and thencareer-high 11 stops in the season opener vs. Virginia Tech. Nasirildeen's 28 tackles this season is 10 more than the next closest FSU defender (Dontavious Jackson - 18). Nineteen of Nasirildeen's 28 tackles are of the solo variety. He finished with five at Syracuse, all in the first half. Nasirildeen ranks ninth nationally with 6.3 solo tackles per game.
