The five seniors were Barry Johnson, three-time Honorable Mention All-Midwest; Steve Rowe, tournament MVP; Dave Olson, most prolific three point shooter in Mid-Con history; Kavien Martin, team leader as the point guard; and Rod McKinnis, who provided the inspiration after a season ending knee injury. The team was honored by Governor Jim Edgar (EIU Class of 68), the state legislature at the Illinois capital building, as well as welcomed by the Charleston community and members of the University. The Panthers lost to the Indiana Hoosiers, an eventual 'Final Four' participant, in the first round of the West Regional in Boise, Idaho. eastern illinois panther basketball
