Tip-off between the Huskers (1-0) and Crimson Tide (0-1) is set for 7 p.m., and tickets are available at Huskers.com or by calling BIG-RED. Monday s game will be Veterans/Military Appreciation Day, with veterans and active and former military members receiving free general admission seating, along with a guest, just by presenting military ID. A live radio broadcast will be provided by the Husker Sports Network, including Lincoln affiliate B107.3 FM and 93.3 FM in Omaha. Matt Coatney and Jeff Griesch will be on the call for the Husker Sports Network. Free live audio is available world-wide for free on Huskers.com. The Veterans Day battle between the Big Red and Alabama will cap a resounding opening weekend for the Huskers in their new home. Nebraska rolled to a win over UCLA in front of a Husker nonconference record 9,750 fans. The pre-game festivities included the Nebraska Life Skills Sportsmanship Pep Rally, which included nearly 50 schools and 4,500 middle school students from across the state. Two-time All-American Jordan Hooper erupted for 27 points, and 11 rebounds in the opener. The twotime first-team All-Big Ten forward from Alliance, Neb., crossed the 1,700-point career scoring plateau and recorded her 27th career double-double on the afternoon. Allie Havers, a 6-5 freshman center, pumped in 14 points in her collegiate debut, while 6-2 junior forward Emily Cady gave the Big Red three players in double figures with 12 points. Alabama lost at Chattanooga in the debut of former Purdue and Texas Tech Coach Kristy Curry. The Mocs, who Nebraska defeated in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament, had six players in double figures against Alabama. The Huskers battled to a victory over the No. 11 Crimson Tide at the Devaney Center. Anna DeForge led the Huskers with 13 points, five rebounds and four steals, while Naciska Gilmore added 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Nicole Kubik contributed 12 points and five steals. Brittany Ezell led the Crimson Tide with 17 points. Nebraska Celebrates Season One at New Arena Nebraska celebrates its first season in Pinnacle Bank Arena in The arena, located in the historic Haymarket in downtown Lincoln just steps away from the Nebraska campus, will serve as the new home for Husker men s and women s basketball teams. The $179 million project was completed in the summer of 2013 after being approved by voters in May of A ribbon cutting ceremony that included Governor Dave Heineman, Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler, UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman, Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst and Husker coaches Connie Yori and Tim Miles, tipped off the opening of the new arena in late August. The 470,400-square foot arena project has sparked a revitalization of the Haymarket District, including the addition of several new hotels and upscale housing options. It also has added the Railyard, an outdoor entertainment area adjacent to the arena. The Railyard includes The Cube a massive outdoor screen that will serve as a hub for other entertainment options. In Season One at Pinnacle Bank Arena, the Husker women s basketball program has experienced more than a 50 percent increase in season ticket sales, surpassing the 3,200 mark. The number shattered NU s previous season ticket record. The women s program was also selected as one of four NCAA Regional hosts for the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The Huskers will play host to the NCAA Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds at Pinnacle Bank Arena, March Nebraska has advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 in two of the past four seasons, but Lincoln has not played host to an NCAA Tournament game in men s or women s basketball since On the men s side, the Huskers have sold out for the season, guaranteeing a school-record average of more than 15,000 per game in their first year at the arena. Huskers Welcome Veterans to Alabama Game The Nebraska women s basketball program will show its support for our nation s military on Veterans Day when the Huskers take on Alabama, Monday, Nov. 11, at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tip-off between the Big Red and the Crimson Tide is set for 7 p.m., and all current military members and veterans (and one guest) with valid military/veteran identification will receive free general admission seating for the game at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Veterans/military members and one guest will simply need to display their valid ID, which includes military ID, VFW/Legion card, or DD214F, at any entrance to the arena, and sit in any previously nonpurchased general admission seat. Veterans/military members are strongly encouraged to buy additional tickets for extended family or friends in advance at Huskers.com or by calling BIG-RED. Hooper to Make 100th Straight Start Against Alabama Two-time All-American Jordan Hooper is set to make her 100th consecutive start in the Nebraska lineup, when the Huskers take on Alabama Monday. Hooper, who has started every game of her NU career, will become the 13th Husker in history to make 100 starts. Lindsey Moore, Hooper s friend and teammate for the past three seasons, owns Nebraska s career record with 132 starts - a record Hooper could challenge by season s end. Hooper needs just 33 minutes to reach 3,000 minutes played her career. Huskers Have History of Home-Opening Success Nebraska owns a history of season-opening success on the Huskers homecourt. Nebraska improved to 38-2 all-time in home openers, including 1-0 at Pinnacle Bank Arena, with its victory over UCLA on Nov. 8, The Huskers were 35-2 all-time in season openers at the Devaney Center. From through , Nebraska reeled off 24 straight home-opening wins before losing to South Dakota State on Nov. 19, NU s only other home-opening loss came to Kansas (88-56) on Nov. 21, Nebraska has been strong in its first six home games every season. In fact, NU is over the past 40 years in its first six home contests (.859 winning percentage), including 33-6 in the second game of the season. NU produced its 16th straight victory in Game No. 6 with a win over Idaho State Dec. 1, Scouting the Alabama Crimson Tide Coach Kristy Curry leads Alabama to Lincoln in her first season with the Crimson Tide. Curry, who has had successful stints in the Big Ten with Purdue and in the Big 12 at Texas Tech, opened her Alabama career with an loss at Chattanooga on Friday night. It was the first regular-season game for the Mocs since they had their 2013 season come to an end in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Nebraska. Curry is guiding an Alabama team that returns two starters and six letterwinners from a team that finished overall and 2-14 in the Southeastern Conference. Alabama tied for 13th in the SEC. Senior Shafontaye Myers led Alabama in the opener with 19 points. The 5-8 guard averaged 10.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game last year. Junior Daisha Simmons added 15 points against the Mocs. The 5-10 guard is Alabama s top returning scorer and rebounder from a year ago after averaging 12.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Sophomore Nikki Hegstetter provides size inside for the Crimson Tide. The 6-2 forward scored 16 points in Alabama s season debut, going 7-of-10 from the field. She added four assists, but grabbed just two rebounds. Last season she averaged 2.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. Junior Briana Hutchen joined Alabama s starting five for the opener. The 6-1 forward averaged 2.7 points and 3.1 boards per game last year. Hutchen went scoreless and played just nine minutes in the Crimson Tide s loss to the Mocs. Freshman Karyla Middlebrook, a 5-7 guard, rounds out Alabama s probable starting five after producing eight points, five rebounds and two assists in her collegiate debut. Fellow freshman Ashley Williams added 10 points and three rebounds in just 14 minutes off the bench for the Tide against the Mocs. Overall, 12 Alabama players saw the court at Chattanooga, but only six scored in the game. Oceana Hamilton added two points for Alabama in 10 minutes off the bench. Emily Davis, Sharin Rivers, Khadijah Carter, Brittany Jack, Courtney Carter and Hutchen all went scoreless in 54 combined minutes. Alabama committed just 11 turnovers in the opener and matched Chattanooga on the offensive glass. The Tide also hit nearly 47 percent of their shots from the field and 70 percent of their free throws. However, they committed 19 fouls compared to just 11 by the Mocs, as Chattanooga outscored Alabama 18-7 at the line. The Nebraska Life Skills Sportsmanship Pep Rally on the morning of Nov. 8 on the new homecourt of the Huskers reached more than 4,500 middle-school youth from nearly 50 schools across Nebraska. Students from Centennial to Crete, Norris to North Bend Central, Seward to Sandy Creek and Wahoo to Wilber-Clatonia joined students from several private schools in Lincoln for a morningof motivational messages and exciting basketball action. The sportsmanship pep rally, which was organized with assistance from the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame, included messages from nationally recognized speakers. Nebraska s men s basketball coach Tim Miles, baseball coach Darin Erstad, two-time NCAA and Olympic wrestling champion Jordan Burroughs, along with NCAA discus champion Chad Wright all delivered inspirational messages. Amanda Burau from Nebraska s national champion women s bowling team, Mattie Fowler from the Huskers Women s College World Series softball team and Shavon Shields from the men s basketball team added impressive messages, along with former women s basketball player Meghin Williams. Acrodunk, a nationally acclaimed high-flying dunk team, added a spectacular performance. The Huskers tip time was moved to noon to accommodate the students attendance at the pep rally and their return to their home schools. Huskers Blow By Bruins in Arena Opener All-American Jordan Hooper shot No. 17 Nebraska to a memorable opening day at Pinnacle Bank Arena with a victory over UCLA on Friday. Hooper and the Huskers put on an impressive show for a Nebraska non-conference record crowd of 9,750 in the first regular-season game in the history of NU s new arena. Hooper, a 6-2 senior forward from Alliance, Neb., erupted for her 27th career double-double with game highs of 27 points and 11 rebounds, including 19 points in the first half to shoot the Huskers to a halftime lead. The Bruins, who were ranked No. 25 in the USA Today Preseason Top 25 after winning 26 games a year ago, had no answer for Hooper. The two-time first-team All-Big Ten performer hit 7-of-9 first-half shots, including a pair of three-pointers as Nebraska pulled away from UCLA. For the game, Hooper hit 9-of-14 shots from the field and 7-of-8 free throws. She added a steal in 32 minutes of work. Junior forward Emily Cady added 12 points, five rebounds and a pair of assists to help power the Huskers inside game. Cady scored the first official points by a Husker and knocked down the first three-pointer in Pinnacle Bank Arena history. Nebraska s dominant inside game helped the Huskers outrebound the short-handed Bruins It also included 14 points and three rebounds in just 15 minutes from 6-5 freshman center Allie Havers. Junior guard Brandi Jeffery added an impressive effort with nine points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals in a starting role for the Huskers. Jeffery scored six straight points in the middle of a decisive 14-0 run midway through the first half that turned a NU lead into a Husker advantage. Sophomore point guard Rachel Theriot directed the Husker backcourt with a career-high nine assists, as Nebraska dished out 21 assists on 28 made baskets. Theriot added four points and four rebounds. Nebraska s strong passing led to the Huskers to better than 50 percent shooting from the field (28-55) for the day, despite going just 3-of-14 from three-point range. The Huskers also hit 18-of-23 free throws. Nebraska was plus-21 on the glass and matched the Bruins at 15 in the turnover battle. The Husker defense held UCLA to just 34 percent shooting for the game (18-53), including 4-of-19 from three-point range. The Bruins also hit just 9-of-17 free throws. Senior guard Thea Lemberger led the Bruins with 17 points and four assists, while Atonye Nyingifa added 12 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Nirra Fields gave UCLA three players in double figures with 11 points. The Bruins, who only had six active players in the game. Huskers Preseason Pick to Win Big Ten Nebraska was voted the preseason pick to win the Big Ten regular-season title by both conference coaches and media in The picks were announced as part of Big Ten Media Day in Chicago, Oct. 31. The Big Ten coaches and select media panel chose the Huskers to finish on top of the final conference standings, while defending champion Penn State was picked No. 2. Michigan State was No. 3 in a selection process where voters only chose their top three teams. The Big Ten does not do a full preseason ranking of all 12 teams in women s basketball. Husker senior Jordan Hooper was a unanimous choice of Big Ten coaches to the preseason All-Big Ten team. The 6-2 forward from Alliance, Neb., also earned a spot on the five-player media team. Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year Maggie Lucas from Penn State was a unanimous choice to both all-conference teams, while Minnesota s Rachel Banham added a unanimous selection from the league media. Huskers Claim Highest Preseason Rank in School History Nebraska will open its campaign with its highest preseason ranking in school history, as the Huskers start the year No. 12 in the USA Today Coaches Top 25, announced Tuesday, Oct. 29. Nebraska s preseason ranking by the coaches surpasses its No. 19 ranking by USA Today before the start of the season. The Huskers finished the campaign at No. 18 in the final coaches poll following their second run to the NCAA Sweet 16 in the past four years. Nebraska closed with a 25-9 overall record that included a 12-4 Big Ten Conference finish.

The Lady Lions will start the year at No. 15 in the coaches poll. Michigan State heads into the season at No. 18, while defending Big Ten Tournament champion Purdue begins the year at No. 23. All four of the Big Ten teams in the preseason poll advanced to at least the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament and won at least 25 games. The preseason top 25 included UCLA - Nebraska s first opponent of , The Huskers will face the Bruins in the first-ever regular-season basketball game at Pinnacle Bank Arena in downtown Lincoln on Nov. 8. Tip-off between the Huskers and Bruins, who advanced to the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament and finished with a No. 15 final national ranking in the coaches poll, is set for Noon. Hooper Named Candidate for Senior CLASS Award Nebraska s Jordan Hooper has been selected as one of 30 candidates nationally for the Senior CLASS Award for women s basketball. The Senior CLASS Award announced its list of candidates on Wednesday, Oct. 30. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must display notable achievements in community, classroom, character and competition. The acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Hooper, a 6-2 senior forward from Alliance, Neb., is a two-time honorable-mention All-American and a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection. She has also been a nominee for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. In the community, she has volunteered her time at Belmont Elementary School, Saint Elizabeth s Regional Medical Center and participated on Nebraska s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, among her many activities. On the court, Hooper has led the Huskers to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the 2013 NCAA Sweet 16. She has started 99 consecutive games and serves as a team captain. She enters her senior season with a chance to challenge Nebraska records for points, rebounds and threepointers made. Hooper is one of only two women s basketball student-athletes in the Big Ten Conference to earn a spot on the elite list of 30 Senior CLASS Award candidates, joining Penn State s Maggie Lucas. The list of 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 by a national media committee for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award in November. The 10 finalists will be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award. Hooper Named to Preseason Wade, Wooden Lists Again Two-time All-American Jordan Hooper has been named a preseason national player-of-the-year candidate for both the Wade Trophy and the Wooden Award again in Hooper, a 6-2 senior forward from Alliance, Neb., is a two-time WBCA and Associated Press honorablemention All-American and a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection. She enters her senior season poised to become just the third player in Nebraska history to score 2,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds in her career, joining 1993 Wade Trophy winner Karen Jennings and 2010 first-team WBCA All-American Kelsey Griffin. Hooper, who has scored 1,712 points and pulled down 822 rebounds in starting the first 99 games of her Husker career, is also in position to shatter the school s three-point record. She enters the Alabama game with 217 made three-pointers, just 50 shy of the school record held by three-time first-team All-Big 12 guard Kiera Hardy ( ). Hooper has averaged nearly 72 three-pointers per season at Nebraska, including 81 a year ago when she helped shoot the Huskers to the 2013 NCAA Sweet 16. Over the summer, Hooper helped the USA Basketball Women s World University Games Team to a gold medal in Kazan, Russia. In the championship, Hooper earned a start and scored nine points while grabbing nine rebounds while going head-to-head against several members of Russia s 2012 Olympic Team. Hooper was one of three players from the Big Ten to earn mention on the preseason lists for both the Wade Trophy and Wooden Award, joining Penn State s Maggie Lucas and Minnesota s Rachel Banham. Huskers to Honor All-American Griffin with Jersey Retirement The Nebraska women s basketball program is adding another name and number to its wall of honor inside the new Pinnacle Bank Arena - and this one is a legend. Kelsey Griffin, one of the most accomplished Huskers both on and off the court in program history, will be honored by Nebraska with the retirement of her No. 23 jersey on Wednesday, Jan. 29, when the Huskers take on Michigan. She will join 1993 Wade Trophy Winner and CoSIDA Academic All-America Hall of Famer Karen Jennings (No. 51) and 1988 Big Eight Player-of-the-Year Maurtice Ivy (No. 30) among Nebraska s retired jersey honorees. Griffin, who will travel back from her seasonal home in Bendigo, Australia, to receive the honor, said she was blown away by the news that her jersey was being retired. Having my jersey retired is such an incredible honor. It means so much to me, it is hard to put into words, Griffin said. There have been so many people along the way who have helped make this possible, and it means more because of who I was able to accomplish this with. Nebraska is such an incredible university and amazing place. It s filled with great people, and it is because of all these attributes that makes my jersey retirement so special. Kelsey Griffin is one of the greatest players and greatest people in the history of Nebraska women s basketball, Yori said. You look at what she accomplished while she was here both on the court, in the classroom and in the community, then you look at what she has done in the WNBA and overseas, and it is pretty amazing. Those accomplishments probably only tell people a small part of the story of how tremendous a person Kelsey really is. I am so happy that we can honor her in this way. Griffin, a first-team All-American on the court and a national player-of-the-year finalist in 2010, became the face of Nebraska women s basketball for five seasons ( ). The lightly recruited 6-2 forward from Eagle River, Alaska, powered Nebraska s rise to national prominence by earning three first-team All-Big 12 Conference awards. Griffin also led Nebraska to a trio of NCAA Tournament appearances in 2007, 2008 and Her final season as a Husker, she etched a permanent place in Husker history as part of a six-player senior class that led Nebraska to an unbeaten regular season (29-0), 30 consecutive victories, a Big 12 Conference regular-season title and Nebraska s first-ever trip to the NCAA Sweet 16. She captured Big 12 Player-ofthe-Year honors while leading NU to a 32-2 final record that included a 16-0 Big 12 mark. She ranks No. 3 on Nebraska s all-time scoring list with 2,033 points, while ranking No. 2 in the Husker record book with 1,019 career rebounds. She joins 1993 Wade Trophy winner and fellow first-team All- American Karen Jennings as the only players in Nebraska history with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. Griffin also set Nebraska s career record with 40 double-doubles in her four years on the court in Lincoln. Her 127 career starts rank No. 2 in school history. As a senior, Griffin averaged 20.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, including 20 double-doubles. She also earned a spot on the Big 12 All-Defensive Team by notching 60 steals, 26 blocked shots and took a remarkable 29 charges on the year. Griffin was NU s first-ever winner of the Senior CLASS Award, recognizing her achievements in the community and the classroom, while honoring her character and success in competition. She was honored as Nebraska s Female Student-Athlete of the Year in , before earning the No. 3 overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft. Griffin earned a spot on the WNBA All-Rookie Team with the Connecticut Sun in She completed her fourth professional season with the Sun in 2013, starting all 34 games and averaging career bests of 8.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. In her four-year WNBA career, she has played in 133 games with 61 starts for Connecticut. Griffin also has played professionally in Hungary, Israel and most recently for the Bendigo Spirit in Australia s WNBL. In , Griffin led the Spirit to the WNBL title and was named the MVP of the championship series. She has returned to Australia for the campaign, where she plays alongside former Husker teammate and 2012 Olympian Chelsea Aubry. Husker Front Line Solid for 68 Straight Games Nebraska s starting forwards of Jordan Hooper (99), Emily Cady (68) and Hailie Sample (68) have joined each other in the Huskers starting five for 68 consecutive games. The inside trio has been joined in the Husker starting lineup for each of the last 29 games by Rachel Theriot. Brandi Jeffery started the first game of with the quartet, after starting the first six games of with Hooper, Cady and Sample before being replaced in the starting five by Theriot. Consistent starting lineups are nothing new for the Huskers under Coach Connie Yori. In , fifth-year senior guard Kaitlyn Burke joined Moore, Hooper, Cady and Sample in NU s starting lineup for every game. Three times in Yori s first 11 seasons at Nebraska, the Huskers have used the same starting five for every game in a season, including all 33 games in The Huskers featured the same starting five for 32 games on their way to a season and the NCAA Tournament. Yori s Huskers also used the same starting five for 30 games on their way to an season and a WNIT bid. A full year with the same starting five is rare in women s college basketball. In fact, Nebraska was the only Big Ten team to feature the same starting five throughout , and was one of only three teams in the 2012 NCAA Tournament to start the same five every game. Kansas State and BYU were the others. Over the past nine seasons, Nebraska has used only 21 different starting lineups in 260 games. Nebraska Selected as NCAA Regional Host The University of Nebraska was awarded one of four regional host sites for the 2014 NCAA Women s Basketball Tournament, announced by the NCAA on Wednesday, Oct. 9. The Huskers will host the fourteam regional at Pinnacle Bank Arena in downtown Lincoln, March 29 and 31. Pinnacle Bank Arena will be the home of Nebraska men s and women s basketball for its inaugural season in The $179 million arena is located in the historic Haymarket district in downtown Lincoln, just steps away from the University of Nebraska campus. With a capacity of more than 15,000, the arena has sold out for Husker men s basketball for and season ticket sales for women s basketball are up 50 percent from a year ago. It s an exciting time to be a part of the Nebraska women s basketball program, and the NCAA Regional announcement just keeps that building, Coach Connie Yori said. We ve got a long way to go as a team before we can even think about the possibility of getting back to the Sweet 16 this year, but it is certainly a great opportunity for men s and women s basketball fans to have a chance to watch college basketball being played at a really high level at the end of March in Lincoln. Yori, who has led Nebraska to five NCAA Tournament bids in the past seven years, including a pair of NCAA Regional trips, was the 2013 Big Ten Coach of the Year and the 2010 National Coach of the Year.

An NCAA women s basketball regional to cap the first season at Pinnacle Bank Arena is certainly a big-time event. Sports fans of all kinds all across the state of Nebraska can start making their plans now. The last time the University of Nebraska served as a host for the an NCAA men s or women s basketball tournament came on March 17, 1993, when the Husker women defeated San Diego, 81-58, in the first round at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. It is the only game the Nebraska women s basketball team has ever played on its home court in the NCAA Tournament. Nebraska earned a trip to the NCAA Regional in Norfolk, Va., in The Huskers advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 by knocking off Chattanooga in the first round and home-standing Texas A&M at Reed Arena in the second round. The Huskers earned a No. 6 seed in last year s tournament and finished the year with a 25-9 overall record that included a 12-4 Big Ten mark. The other three NCAA Regional sites are Louisville, Ky., Notre Dame, Ind., and Stanford, Calif. The 16 NCAA first- and second-round locations are Baylor, Duke, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, LSU, Maryland, North Carolina, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Toledo, UConn, UCLA and Washington. The NCAA Women s Final Four will be held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., April 6-8. Moore Helps Minnesota Lynx to WNBA Title as Rookie Lindsey Moore celebrated a WNBA title to cap her first season with the Minnesota Lynx in Atlanta on Oct. 10. The former Husker point guard who was a first-round pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft, jumped for joy on the court at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga., with her Lynx teammates as time expired. Moore spent the last three seconds of the game on the court after Minnesota battled its way to an win to complete a three-game WNBA Finals sweep of the Atlanta Dream. Minnesota capped a perfect 7-0 playoff record in Lindsey Moore played in six of Minnesota s seven playoff games in support of the league s most dominant and balanced starting five. As a rookie, Moore appeared in 23 regular-season games, averaging 1.0 point and 1.0 assist playing behind U.S. Olympian and WNBA All-Star Lindsay Whalen. Hooper Powers Team USA to Gold at World University Games Nebraska s Jordan Hooper scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds while making her first international start, powering the USA Basketball Women s World University Games Team to a victory in the gold medal game on July 15. Hooper, a 6-2 senior forward from Alliance, Neb., erupted in her first USA start, pouring in five points, including the game s first three-pointer, to go along with three early rebounds to fuel the U.S. team s 13-3 lead to open the game. She also played a major role defensively in helping the United States to its third straight World University Games gold medal. Hooper scored seven first-quarter points to help the USA take a lead at the end of the quarter. She played the entire first period and finished with 31 minutes in the game. Entering the contest, Hooper had averaged 6.2 points and 5.0 rebounds while playing 12.6 minutes per game in the USA s first five wins. In the tournament, Hooper finished with 6.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game, giving her per 40-minute averages of 16.6 points and 14.9 boards. Hooper started the second quarter on the bench, and while she was out, the Russian team quickly trimmed the USA margin to with 7:46 left in the first half. Hooper immediately returned to the court and helped shut out the Russians for the next three minutes to ignite a 7-0 USA run. Hooper s offensive rebound and assist to Crystal Bradford (Central Michigan) in the corner for a three-pointer, gave the USA a lead with 2:43 left in the half. Theriot Unanimous Choice on 2013 Big Ten All-Freshman Team Rachel Theriot became the fourth Husker in Nebraska s starting five to earn freshman allconference honors when she was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in Theriot, a 6-0 guard from Middleburg Heights, Ohio, played a major role in Nebraska s Big Ten runner-up finish. She averaged 7.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists in Big Ten action. She finished her rookie season by averaging 6.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists, despite playing the entire year with a foot injury. Theriot, who started NU s final 28 games, finished in the top 10 in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio and No. 10 in Big Ten-only assists (3.5 apg). In the 2013 NCAA Tournament, Theriot averaged 8.7 points per game while hitting 62.5 percent (10-16) shots from the field, including 80 percent (4-5) from three-point range and both of her free throw attempts. Karen Jennings, the 1993 Wade Trophy winner and a first-team All-American, produced 810 points and 319 rebounds in 32 games as a junior in Kelsey Griffin, a finalist for every national playerof-the-year award in 2010 and a first-team All-American, produced 685 points and 354 rebounds in 34 games as a senior. Cady Did Double Duty in Big Ten Play Emily Cady earned honorable-mention All-Big Ten accolades from the conference media for the second straight season in 2013, after averaging 9.6 points and 9.3 rebounds in regular-season league play. Cady, who notched five Big Ten double-doubles in 2013, had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the regular-season finale against No. 7 Penn State. She hit 6-of-9 shots from the field, including 3-of-4 three-pointers to tie another career best. It was Cady s first double-double of the season. She notched her second Big Ten double with 11 points and 10 rebounds at Indiana Jan. 10. Cady hit 3-of-4 shots from the field, including her lone three-point attempt, and went 4-for-4 at the line. Cady produced a 17-point, nine-rebound effort at No. 8 Penn State, when she went 3-of-4 from threepoint range. She added seven points and 12 rebounds in a loss to No. 14 Purdue Jan. 5, and nine points and eight boards against Illinois Jan. 17. She had 10 points and six boards at Ohio State Jan. 31. Cady added eight points and 11 rebounds in NU s win at Wisconsin Feb. 28. In Big Ten games, Cady shot 42.1 percent from the field, including 40 percent (12-30) from long range. She also connected on 52-of-61 free throws (.852). The increased production in conference play was nothing new for Cady, who averaged 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in conference action as a freshman in She earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, after averaging 7.3 points and 5.8 boards in regular-season non-conference play. Overall, Cady averaged 9.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals to go along with a team-best 28 blocked shots in Seven of Cady s eight career double-doubles have come against Big Ten competition and the seventh came against Kansas in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. Big Ten, Huskers Ranked High in National RPI The Big Ten proved itself as an improved women s basketball conference in RealTimeRPI ranked the Big Ten No. 2 nationally among all conferences, trailing only the Big 12 in , ranking ahead of the SEC (3), Big East (4), ACC (5) and Pac-12 (6) among the top conferences in the nation. Penn State (7), Purdue (14), Nebraska (16) and Michigan State (24) gave the Big Ten four top-25 RPI teams, according to the official NCAA RPI rankings (April 10). Michigan (28) and Iowa (42) provide the conference with six top-50 RPI squads. Ohio State (68), Illinois (71), Minnesota (91), Northwestern (105) and Wisconsin (126) give the league 11 top-130 RPI teams. Big Red, Big Ten Schedule Strengths Impressive in Nebraska s Strength of Schedule continued to climb throughout the season according to RealTime RPI, which listed the Huskers SOS No. 2 in the Big Ten and No. 12 nationally (as of March 18). Hooper Puts Up Double-Doubles at Record Rate Jordan Hooper ranks third all-time at Nebraska with 27 career double-doubles, following her 27-point, 11-rebound effort in NU s season-opening win over UCLA on Nov. 8. Prior to her double-double against Chattanooga in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, Hooper s last regularseason double-double had come with 14 points and 12 rebounds at Michigan Feb. 21. In , at least seven regular-season Nebraska women s basketball games will be televised live nationally by the Big Ten Network, inlcluding each of NU s first five Big Ten Conference contests. An eighth regular-season game (Illinois, Feb. 27) could be picked up by BTN, and Nebraska s early round games in the Big Ten Conference Tournament also will be televised by BTN. If the Huskers can advance to the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis, that game will be televised by ESPN.
