Auburn has started 4-0 three times during the previous six seasons. Auburn has won 19 of its last 20 SEC regular-season games, and 20 of its last 21 games against SEC opponents counting the 2004 SEC Championship game. Since the start of the 2000 season, Auburn has the best record among all SEC teams in regular-season league games with a mark of Auburn is one of just two teams nationally that has not allowed a rushing touchdown this season. Auburn ranks third nationally in scoring defense, allowing 8.2 points per game. Auburn has held 23 of its last 30 opponents, including all five this season, to fewer than 20 points. Auburn leads the SEC in red zone defense (33.3 percent) and ranks second in red zone offense (89.5 percent). Auburn is tied for 12th nationally and second in the SEC in quarterback sacks with 17, and is on pace to challenge the school single-season record of 45 set in Auburn is 7-of-7 on fourth-down conversions this season. Auburn has posted a 27-3 record since the start of the 2004 season, which is the third-best record in NCAA Division I-A during that span. Kenny Irons leads the SEC in rushing averaging yards per game, and is averaging yards per game over his last 14 games dating back to last season. Despite missing one game this season, Kenny Irons has 120 more yards rushing through five team games this season than he had last season after five games. Seven of the 15 games between the two schools have been decided by seven points or less... Auburn s come-from-behind victory last season was the first time the team trailing at the half rallied to win since Auburn quarterbacks have thrown six touchdowns in the last two meetings, after connecting on only three scoring passes in the previous five games. AU-ARK CONNECTIONS Arkansas defensive line coach Tracy Rocker, in his fourth year with the Razorbacks, was an All-American defensive tackle at Auburn. Rocker made history in 1988, becoming the first player in the SEC to win the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Trophy in the same year. A two-time All- American, Rocker recorded 354 career tackles, including 48 behind the line of scrimmage. Rocker was also a three-time All-SEC selection. Arkansas defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Reggie Herring was linebackers coach at Auburn from Herring was the defensive coordinator at Clemson when Auburn tight ends coach Steve Ensminger was the offensive coordinator for the Tigers from Razorback wide receivers/specialists coach James Shibest coached former Auburn players Rudi Johnson (RB) and Daniel Cobb (QB) at Butler County CC. Shibest was a receiver at Arkansas from and had five catches for 84 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Auburn in the 1984 Liberty Bowl. ARKANSAS TIGER Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville is the lone Tiger coach or player who hails from the state of Arkansas. A native of Camden, Ark., Tuberville graduated from Harmony Grove High School, and went on to play free safety at Southern Arkansas University. After graduating from SAU in 1976, Tuberville was an assistant coach at Hermitage High School for two seasons before serving as its head coach from From , Tuberville was a defensive ends and linebackers coach at Arkansas State University. ALABAMA RAZORBACKS Four members of the Arkansas squad are from the state of Alabama. Freshman flanker London Crawford is from Mobile, sophomore guard Cody Green is from Oneonta, freshman linebacker Ryan Powers is from Athens and senior offensive tackle Zac Tubbs is from Cullman. 3 ON THIS DATE Auburn owns a 10-5 record all-time in games played on Oct. 7. Auburn has won five of its last seven games played on this date, but fell to Mississippi State, 17-10, in 2000 the last time the Tigers played on Oct. 7. Auburn has never played Arkansas on Oct. 7. IN OCTOBER Auburn is (.658) all-time in the month of October, including a mark under Tommy Tuberville. The Tigers are 17-5 in their last 22 games in October. ANOTHER 3-0 START Auburn s 3-0 start in Southeastern Conference play should come as no surprise, as it marks the sixth time in the last seven seasons, and the fourth in a row, that Auburn has won its first three conference games. The only time since 1999 that Auburn has not started 3-0 in the SEC was in 2002, when Auburn was 2-0 before falling to Arkansas in the third conference game. In three of the previous five seasons with 3-0 starts, Auburn went on to with its fourth game as well. TIGERS TOUGH IN THE RED ZONE Auburn has excelled in the red zone both offensively and defensively this season. The Tigers lead the SEC in red zone defense, allowing just three scores in nine opponents trips (33.3 percent). In wins against both LSU and South Carolina, Auburn held the opposition out of the end zone in the closing seconds to preserve victories. Offensively, Auburn ranks second in the SEC, scoring on 17-of-19 trips (89.5 percent). The Tigers have scored 13 touchdowns and kicked four field goals when entering the red zone this season, and have not turned the ball over, missing two field goals for their only unsuccessful trips. FOURTH DOWN FIREWORKS Through five games this season, Auburn has attempted seven fourth-down conversions, and the Tigers have been successful on all seven. Three of the fourth-down conversions have been 1-yard touchdown rushes. In addition, Auburn converted a fake punt on a 4th-and-14 play in the opener vs. Washington State, a 4thand-6 in the third quarter at South Carolina and has had a pair of quarterback sneaks on 4thand-1 that have picked up first downs. NO ROOM TO RUN Auburn is one of just two schools to not allow a rushing touchdown this season, joining Michigan as teams that haven t given up a score on the ground. Auburn s five opponents have scored 34 rushing touchdowns in their other contests Auburn Football In addition, since the start of the 2004 season, Auburn has held 15 opponents to less than 100 yards rushing, including three of the last four. Over the Tigers last four games, opponents have averaged just 79.3 yards per game and 2.46 yards per carry. MUSCHAMP ERA STARTS STRONG Auburn s new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp is continuing a tradition of strong Auburn defenses, in particular during the past three seasons. Since the start of the 2004 season, the Tigers have held 23 of their 30 opponents to fewer than 20 points. Auburn opponents are averaging just 12.5 points per game during that span. This season, Auburn is ranked third nationally in scoring defense (8.2 ppg) and 17th in total defense (258.6). THE SACK MAN Auburn currently ranks tied for 12th in the NCAA in sacks, totaling 17 through the first five games for an average of 3.4 per game. That news isn t surprising when one learns that high sack totals seem to follow defensive coordinator Will Muschamp wherever he goes. LSU set its team single-season sacks record with 44 in 2003 when Muschamp was the Tigers defensive coordinator. During Muschamp s only season with the Miami Dolphins, Miami tied its single-season sacks record with 49. At its current pace, Auburn has a shot to surpass its single-season sacks record of 45 set in QUARTER BY QUARTER Auburn holds a decisive scoring edge in all four quarters this season, and has only allowed one score in both the first and fourth quarters this year. Auburn has outscored its opponents 27-7 in the first quarter, in the second quarter, in the third quarter and 38-7 in the fourth quarter. FRESH MEAT A number of true and redshirt freshmen have been contributing for Auburn already this season. Redshirt freshmen DL Sen Derrick Marks, S Aairon Savage and TE Tommy Trott have earned starting spots, with Marks posting a team-best 3.5 sacks, Savage totaling 16 tackles and Trott hauling in four passes including a touchdown so far this season. Redshirt freshman TE Gabe McKenzie has caught seven passes for 84 yards including a touchdown, while true freshman RB Ben Tate rushed for 114 yards and two scores Sept. 23 vs. Buffalo. Redshirt freshman DB Jerraud Powers has 11 tackles while true freshman LB Craig Stevens has six stops. In addition, DE Antonio Coleman (six tackles) and LB Patrick Trahan (three tackles) have contributed on defense. SEC SUCCESS Auburn has won 19 of its last 20 Southeastern Conference games and 20 of its last 21 games against SEC schools, including the 2004 SEC Championship game victory over Tennessee. Auburn s success against conference schools dates back to more than last year s championship run, as since the start of the 2000 season, the Tigers have the best record among the 12 league schools in regular season conference games. The following are the combined conference records of the 12 SEC schools from W-L Pct. Auburn took the kickoff to open the second half, and marched 85 yards on 17 plays, taking 8:38 off the clock before settling for a 24-yard John Vaughn field goal that gave the Tigers a lead. Following the score, Auburn recovered an onsides kick at its own 48-yard-line, then ran 12 more plays, reaching the South Carolina 1- yard-line when the third quarter expired. Kenny Irons scored on the first play of the fourth quarter, which was Auburn s 30th play of the half before South Carolina ran its first play. OFFENSE PILES ON POINTS Auburn s offensive continues to thrive since the arrival of offensive coordinator Al Borges prior to the 2004 season. Under Borges, the Tigers have reached the 30-point mark 18 times in 30 games, and have scored at least 40 points seven times. The Tigers are 18-0 when scoring 30 points since Borges arrival. NO RETURN POLICY Auburn s kickoff coverage unit has not been getting much action, as senior kicker Matt Clark leads the SEC with 23 touchbacks this season, and had a streak of 16 in a row snapped when kicking off into a stiff wind Sept. 28 at South Carolina. Clark, who also successfully converted an onsides kick in the third quarter at South Carolina, was named SEC Special teams Player of the Week Sept. 25. He has 23 touchbacks in 28 attempts (82.1 percent) this season, and had 26 touchbacks last year after taking over the kickoff duties three games into the season. IRONS AHEAD OF LAST YEAR S PACE Despite missing a Sept. 23 game against Buffalo, Kenny Irons is still ahead of the pace he set last season when he led the SEC in rushing with 1,293 yards. Irons leads the SEC in rushing with an average of yards per game, and his 439 yards rushing through five team games is 120 more than he had after five games last season. In fact, Irons had more yards rushing on Auburn s first offensive play from scrimmage this season (a 42-yard burst), then he had in the first two games combined last season, when he had just 34 yards rushing through two contests. SEC RUSHING LEADER RETURNS The SEC s leading rusher in rushing last season with 1,293 yards (107.8 ypg) and 13 touchdowns, senior Kenny Irons is bidding to become the first player to lead the SEC in rushing in consecutive years since LSU s Kevin Faulk in Irons would become just the second back to accomplish the feat in the last 20 years. In the last 30 years, Auburn has had three players prior to Irons who returned after leading the SEC in rushing. Although none repeated as SEC rushing champ, all three posted 1,000-yard seasons the following year. Joe Cribbs had an SEC-best 1,205 yards rushing in 1978, then ran for 1,120 yards and 14 TDs as a senior in However, teammate James Brooks ran for 1,208 yards as a junior that season to claim the league rushing crown. Brooks totaled 1,314 yards and nine scores as a senior in Stephen Davis was the SEC rushing king in 1994 with 1,263 yards, before totaling 1,068 yards and 14 touchdowns in LETHAL WEAPONS True freshman Ben Tate rushed for 114 yards Sept. 23 vs. Buffalo, becoming the latest Tiger to post a big rushing total. In fact, Auburn has six different players on the roster who have rushed for at least 90 yards in a single game, including four that have topped the century mark. Kenny Irons leads the list with 10 career 100-yard games including a high of 218 last year at LSU. Sophomore Tristan Davis, who is now playing free safety, rushed for 162 yards last season at Kentucky. Senior Tre Smith had a career-best 126-yard effort as a freshman in 2002 at Alabama, while Tate s 114-yard effort is fourth best among current Tigers. Sophomore Brad Lester had a 93-yard performance last season vs. Ball State, while junior Carl Stewart had 91 yards rushing in 2004 vs. the Citadel. THE 100-YARD MAN Kenny Irons has eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark in 10 of his last 14 games. During the past 14 games, Irons has totaled 1,699 yards rushing (121.4 yards per game). Although he is only in his second season, Irons is already ranked 16th in Auburn history with 1,732 career yards, and needs just 268 more yards to become the 12th player in Auburn history to rush for 2,000 yards during a career. MORE THAN ONE IRONS EXCELLING Senior cornerback David Irons was granted a sixth-year of eligibility prior to this season, and the extra year has paid dividends. Irons is second on the team with 23 tackles (15 solo, eight assists) this season, including a team-high 10 stops during Auburn s victory at South Carolina Sept. 28. Irons has two tackles for nine yards in losses this year, and has an interception, three pass break-ups and a forced fumble.

5 TAYLOR S TIME Although Auburn lost three wideouts to the NFL following last season, the Tigers are not without a talented returner at that position. In fact, senior Courtney Taylor has more career receptions (119) than any other active player in the SEC. His 1,661 career receiving yards already ranks seventh in Auburn history, and his 119 career catches are fifth best. Of his 119 catches, 83 have resulted in first downs (69.7 percent). Taylor had a career-best nine receptions for 103 yards Sept. 9 at Mississippi State. His nine catches tied for the ninth-best single-game performance in Auburn history. SEC ACTIVE LEADERS Courtney Taylor is not the only Auburn player who leads all active SEC players in a particular statistical category. Tre Smith is the conference s active leader in both career punt return yards (621 on 72 returns) and total kick return yards (922 yards/621 punts and 301 kickoffs). John Vaughn, with 145 career PAT kicks made, is the conference s active leader and ranks sixth in SEC history. OL HAS EXPERIENCE Although they hadn t started a game as a group prior to the season opener vs. Washington State, Auburn s starting offensive linemen have a wealth of experience, combining for 153 games played and 75 starts. Senior guard Ben Grubbs has played in 42 games, starting the last 30, while his counterpart at guard, senior Tim Duckworth, has played in 25 games on the offensive side, making 15 starts. Senior center Joe Cope has started 16 of his 19 career games played, while senior tackle Jonathan Palmer (38 games, eight starts) and junior tackle King Dunlap (29 games played, six starts) are new to the starting lineup this year but have seen extensive action. HEAVENLY BLISS Senior Kody Bliss is averaging 49.5 yards per kick, which would lead the nation if Auburn s potent offense hadn t kept Bliss from being one punt shy of qualifying nationally. Ten of Bliss 17 punts have traveled at least 50 yards, including three over 60, and he has placed five punts inside the opponents 20. Bliss was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week Sept. 18 following Auburn s 7-3 victory over LSU after averaging 48.2 yards on six punts. He had kicks of 62, 61, 51 and 50 yards, as well as punts of 34 and 31 yards that both pinned LSU inside its own 20-yardline. He had a career-long 69 yard punt at South Carolina Sept Auburn Football JUST FOR KICKS John Vaughn started his senior season with a bang, connecting on a career high four field goals during Auburn s opener vs. Washington State and hitting twice more Sept. 9 at Mississippi State. Vaughn has booted a career-long field goal three times already this season, including a pair from over 50 yards. Vaughn drilled a career-best 44-yarder in the first quarter against Washington State, then topped that mark with a 52-yard boot early in the second quarter. He finished with a careerhigh 16 points scored against the Cougars. In the SEC opener in Starkville, Vaughn nailed a 55-yarder just before the end of the first half, which tied for fourth longest in school history. Vaughn currently ranks fourth in Auburn history in career points scored with just 17 shy of the school record held by Carnell Williams. SPECIAL TEAMS HAVE BEEN JUST THAT Auburn has excelled in several aspects of special teams this season. The kickers have been superb, as All-SEC punter Kody Bliss averages a 49.5 yards per punt, kicker John Vaughn has made 8-of-10 field goals, including two from beyond 50 yards, and kickoff specialist Matt Clark has had 23 of his 28 kickoffs result in touchbacks while also converting an onsides kick. In addition, Tristan Davis has averaged an SEC-best 29.2 yards on six kickoff returns, and Marquies Gunn blocked a field goal attempt at Mississippi State. HERRING TRANSITION SUCCESSFUL One of the more notable changes to the Auburn defense was the move of Will Herring, a three-year starter at free safety, to linebacker. The results have been good, as Herring leads the team with 27 tackles this season, including 3.5 for losses, and has a team-high two interceptions. He also took a direct snap on a fake punt in the season opener against Washington State and rushed 42 yards in the third quarter vs. Washington State. SENIOR STEPS UP Karibi Dede, the only returning starting linebacker for Auburn this season, has stepped up during his senior season. Dede ranks fourth on the team with 20 tackles, including 14 solo stops. He also recovered a fumble Sept. 9 at Mississippi State - the sixth fumble recovery of his career. Dede has started 23 games for Auburn, but had a streak of 15 straight starts snapped when he sat out the Buffalo game Sept. 23. THE TIME HAS COME Prior to this season, new timing rules were put into effect to reduce the length of college football games. For Auburn, there have indeed been fewer plays this season. In the previous five seasons, Auburn has averaged between 66.2 and 68.3 plays per game, but this year is down to 58.6 plays per game. Auburn games have averaged between and total plays per game over the past five seasons, but this year, Tiger games are averaging plays per contest. The following chart shows the average plays run in games this season compared to the averages from the previous five seasons.
