1 s Counties Week One By Bill Engelhardt The YAIAA s Division I Mustangs of South Western celebrated the start of the 50th anniversary of the football program by galloping and passing to a resounding 21-7 victory over the Mid-Penn Colonial Division s Warriors of Gettysburg. Mustangs quarterback Ian Smith, who completed 13 of 22 passes for 195-yards and 2 touchdowns, and kicked 3 extra points, was the catalyst for the Mustangs success. J. R. Mummert led the Mustangs rushing attack with 21 carries for 94-yards, followed by Jake Myers with 7 for 35-yards, Kyle King with 2 for 25-yards, Jeb Shipley with 6 for 8-yards, Levi Sager with 3 for 5-yards (including a very shifty 9- yard touchdown), and Ian Smith with 3 for 1-yard. Jimmy Nicklas led the receivers with 3 for 61-yards, followed by Mummert with 2 for 36-yards, Kyle Mahorney with 2 for 32-yards (including a picturesque 26- yard touchdown), Mike Felton with 2 for 26-yards, Shipley with 2 for 19-yards, Sager with 1 for 11-yards and a touchdown, and Kyle Connaboy with 1 for 10-yards. Jake Myers and Jake Shaffer each intercepted a pass for the Mustangs. Zach Hill led the Warriors rushing attack with 11 carries for 37-yards, followed by D. J. Johnson with 9 for 31-yards, Benttion Hendricks with 4 for 14-yards, A. J. Acevado with 1 for no yards, and Chase Whitman with 1 for minus 6-yards. Sophomore quarterback Hendricks completed 4 of 13 passes for 33-yards, 2 for 20-yards to Logan Riser, 1 for 18-yards to Carson Merine, and 1 for minus 5-yards to Hill, for the Warriors. Hendricks intercepted a pass and returned it 35-yards for a touchdown and Drew Myers kicked an extra point for the Warriors. The YAIAA s Division II Bulldogs of West York defeated the Division I Panthers of Central York Corey Harris led the Bulldogs rushing attack with 145-yards (including touchdowns of 7, 2 and 90-yards), followed by Alex George with 29-yards, Jerrin Toomey with minus 1-yard, and Darion Bundy with minus 2- yards. Quarterback Alex George completed 10 of 19 passes for 117-yards; 4 for 50-yards to Harris, 4 for 50- yards to Dan Gay, and 2 for 17-yards to Toomey, for the Bulldogs. Chantz Ilgenfritz, Nate Kosalek, and Austin Whitehead each recovered a fumble, Jerrin Toomey intercepted a pass, Kosalek recorded a sack, and Blake Shaffer kicked 2 extra points for the Bulldogs. Charles Anderson led the Panthers rushing attack with 98-yards, followed by Brandon Baker with 26, Zach Sprenkle with 3-yards, Caleb Mariani with no yards, Brian Hunter with minus 1-yard, and Jonah Plymire with minus 21-yards. Quarterback Baker completed 5 of 9 passes for 65-yards and quarterback Sprenkle completed 3 of 5 passes for 18-yards for the Panthers. Parrish Fells caught 3 passes for 39-yards, followed by Ricky Bastida with 3 for 29-yards, Anderson with 1 for 13- yards, and James Culp with 1 for 2-yards. Raphael Nwanguma intercepted a pass, Charles Anderson and Jonah Plymire each recovered a fumble, and Aaron Goodyear kicked 2 field goals (for 22 and 36-yards) for the Panthers. The YAIAA s Division I Bearcats of York High (William Penn) defeated the Lancaster Lebanon League Division 1 s Knights of Reading Kelvin Parker led the Bearcats rushing attack with 64-yards( including touchdowns of 1 and 2-yards), followed by Maurice Williams with 56-yards (including a 2-yard touchdown), James Talley with 42, Ratik Drakeford with 41, Jordan Zackery with 35, Steffonte Doby with 24 (including a 9-yard touchdown), Darryl Simmons with 6 and Tony Real with 4-yards. Quarterback Parker completed 8 0f 13 passes for 120-yards and a touchdown; 2 for 52-yards to Terance Jacobs, 4 for 50-yards to Zackery, 1 for 9- yards and a touchdown to Kevin Kearse, and 1 for 9-yards to Drakeford, for the Bearcats. Ethan Fair kicked 5 extra points for the Bearcats. Jason Stewart led the Knights rushing attack with 62-yards, followed by Denny Nazario with 21, Wilfred Pena with 2, Yamil Echavarria with 1-yard, and Mike Balaz with minus 12-yards. The YAIAA s Division I Wildcats of Dallastown blasted the Division II Trojans of York Suburban Anthony Defabio led the Wildcats rushing attack with 90-yards (including a 75-yard touchdown), followed by Tyler Imhoff with 60 (including touchdowns of 2 and 3-yards), Derrick Mayfield with 34 (including a 30-yard touchdown), Josh Luckenbaugh with 23 (including a 3-yard touchdown), Adam Lawicki with 21, Ford Reinalda with 10, and Ryan Behrmann with 9-yards. Quarterback Luckenbaugh completed 11 of 19 passes for 140-yards; 3 for 64-yards to Imhoff, 3 for 30-yards to Ben Kline, 1 for 15-yards to K. C. Abakporo, 1 for 15-yards to Justin Bull, 1 for 7-yards to Andrew Heird, 1 for 5-yards to Grant Miller, and 1 for 4-yards to Defabio, for the Wildcats. Jack Margavitch intercepted a pass, Ryan Berhmann kicked 5 extra points, and Bobby Esiaba kicked an extra point for the Wildcats. Cody Waltimyer led the Trojans rushing attack with 57- yards, followed by Jordan Knaub with 14, Nathaniel Cross with 2-yards, and Ricardo Plummer with no yards. The YAIAA s Division II Thunderbolts of Littlestown defeated the Division I Eagles of Dover Sean Doherty led the Thunderbolts rushing attack with 35-yards (including touchdowns of 8 and 4-yards), followed by Tyler Fodor with 10 (including a 6-yard touchdown), Kyle Arentz with 9, Tanner Mitz with 9, Ryan Vaugn with 4-yards, Austin Reynolds with 1-yard, and Matt Zuber with minus 10-yards. Quarterback Zuber completed 7 of 14 passes for 127-yards and 2 touchdowns and Reynolds completed 2 of 3 passes for 46-yards for the Thunderbolts. Matt Koontz caught 5 passes for 125-yards (including touchdowns of 34 and 39-yards from Zuber), Doherty caught 2 passes for 23-yards, Fodor caught 1 pass for 21-yards, and Mitchell Deaner caught 1 pass for 4-yarfds for the Thunderbolts. Jonathan Justice returned an interception 25-yards for a touchdown and Deaner and Koontz each intercepted a pass for the Thunderbolts. Michael Smith and R. J. Carnero each recorded a sack and Reynolds (with 13 tackles) and Doherty (with 10 tackles) lead the Thunderbolts defense. Adam Hunt kicked 4 extra points and Austin Hornbrook kicked 1 extra point for the Thunderbolts. Devin Dellinger led the Eagles rushing attack with 52-yards, followed by Kellee Rogers with 16, Jeff Wesko with 16 (including a 1-yard touchdown), Jose Colon with 10, Kiem Legrant with 8, Mark Ball with 2, and Conner Snyder with 2-yards. The YAIAA s Division I Lions of Red Lion were shutout by the Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division s Eagles of Cumberland Valley Kevin Snyder led the Eagles with 116-yards rushing (including a 12-yard touchdown), followed by Travis Friend with 113 (including a 68-yard touchdown), Chris Conway with 45, Trevor Harman with 18, Matt Delbert with 15, Drew Yetter with 12, Kyle Brubaker with 6-yards, and Jordan Bush with minus 1-yard. Quarterback Eric Sawyer completed 4 of 4 passes for 156-yards and 3 touchdowns; 3 for 116-yards to Harman (including touchdowns of 78 and 11-yards) and 1 for 17-yards and a touchdown to Conway. Kyle Baublitz completed 1 of 1 passes for 15-yards to Matt Deibert for the Eagles. Lance Geesey kicked 5 extra points for the Eagles. 3 The YAIAA s Division I Colonials of New Oxford defeated the Mid-Penn Colonial Division s Indians of Waynesboro Nick Rebert led the Colonials rushing attack with 66-yards, followed by Justin Hoffman with 20 (including a 6-yard touchdown), James Eline with 14, Jake Batts with 10, Quinn Starner with 10, Mike Bivens with 9, Brett Riser with 3, Zack Groft with 1-yard, Allen Arigo with minus 4-yards, and Sean Odom with minus 7-yards. Quarterback Bivens completed 4 of 6 passes for 69-yards, 3 for 44-yards to Groft and 1 for 25-yards to Odom, for the Colonials. Brandon Wilt returned an interception 35-yards for a touchdown after Kyle Duble deflected an Indians pass, Connor Neiman returned a kickoff 91-yards for a touchdown, James Eline kicked 2 extra points, and Sanchez Moreno kicked an extra point for the Colonials. Greg Wade led the Indians rushing attack with 130-yards, followed by Jonathan Blubaugh with 37, Corbin Yoder with 13-yards, and Jesse Mowen with minus 16-yards. Quarterback Mowen completed 6 of 15 passes for 82-yards; 2 for 31-yards to Wade, 1 for 15-yards to Trey Andree, 1 for 13-yards and a touchdown to Aaron Beck, 1 for 12-yards to Blubaugh, and 1 for 6-yards to Brandon Shanholtz, for the Indians. McFerrin and Marvin Gaskill each recovered a fumble, David Elgenbrode kicked an extra point for the Indians. The YAIAA s Division I Rockets of Spring Grove bested the Division II Rams of Kennard-Dale Bobby Bailey led the Rockets rushing attack with 120-yards (including a 2-yard touchdown), followed by Neal Grudi with 34, Dillon Durst with 11, Patrick Thomas with 10, Andrew Walker with 9, Josh Nell with 5, Joshua Slate with 4, and Trey Duncan with 2-yards. Quarterback Grudi completed 6 of 11 passes for 156- yards and a touchdown; 3 for 120-yards to Ben Reigart (including a 69-yard touchdown), 1 for 24-yards to Cortlin Dell, 1 for 5-yards to Nell, and 1 for minus 3-yards to Slate. Keith Stambaugh returned a fumble 79- yards for a touchdown, Max Ruby had 2 sacks, and Ben Reigart kicked field goals of 38, 20, and 24-yards, and 3 extra points for the Rockets. Ethan Hornbarger led the Rams rushing attack with 76-yards (including a 2-yard touchdown) despite leaving the game in the first half with an injury, followed by Zach Brown with 48, Matthew Romoser with 39, Shane Solomon with 8-yards, and Michael Marstellar with minus 1-yard. Romoser completed 2 of 3 passes for 83-yards and a touchdown and Josh Myers completed 2 of 3 passes for 39-yards and a touchdown for the Rams. Kyle Humphries caught 1 pass for 53-yards and a touchdown from Romoser, Tyler Boland caught 2 passes for 49-yards, and Brandon Mitchell caught 1 pass for 20-yards and a touchdown from Myers, for the Rams. The YAIAA s Division II Golden Knights of Eastern York upset the Lancaster-Lebanon League Division 3 s Crimson Tide of Columbia for the second year in a row, the only two times in 31 years. Jared Smeltzer led the Golden Knights rushing attack with 136-yards (including touchdowns of 10 and 6-yards), followed by Andy Seiple with 71 (including a 2-yard touchdown), and Mark Holloway with 5-yards. Quarterback Holloway completed 2 of 9 passes for 65-yards and a 24-yard touchdown to Drake Dunlap for the Golden Knights. Quinn Toomey intercepted 2 passes and blocked a punt and returned it 27-yards for a touchdown for the Golden Knights. Seth Lefever led the Crimson Tide rushing attack with 63-yards (including touchdowns of 10, 4 and 2-yards), followed by Jeremy Daise with 35, Joey Charles with 15, Joey Ronca with 9, and D. J. Wells with minus 3-yards. Quarterback Lefever completed 7 of 16 passes for 136-yards, 5 for 79-yards to Alex Beckley and 2 for 57-yards to Ronca, for the Crimson Tide. The YAIAA s Division II Bobcats of Northeastern shutout the All-American League s Tigers of East Juniata Josh Writer called his own number for a fake punt on a 4th and six from their own 41-yard line to keep a drive going, eventually leading to his scoring the first touchdown in the game. Aaron Greene led the Bobcats rushing attack with 97-yards, followed by Writer with 50 (including his 11-yard touchdown), Jimmy Wilt with 26, Nick Small with 13, and Justin Michalak with 8-yards. Quarterback Writer completed 2 of 4 passes for 46- yards and a touchdown, and Small completed 2 of 3 passes for 14-yards for the Bobcats. The YAIAA s Division II Warriors of Susquehannock were shutout by the Lancaster-Lebanon League Division 2 s Barons of Manheim Central Joe Gruber led the Barons rushing attack with 113-yards (including touchdowns of 21, 34 and 35-yards), followed by Dan Trafford with 99 (including touchdowns of 12 and 57-yards), Tyler Griffith with 80, Justin Gorman with 48 (including a 47-yaed touchdown), Lowen Johnson with a 25-yard touchdown after receiving a lateral from Tyler Griffith (who had run for27-yards before the lateral), Michael Smith with 24, Joe Brubaker with 5, and 10-yards recorded for the team. Quarterback Gorman completed 3 of 3 passes for 36, 2 for 24-yards to Casey Ebersole, and 1 for 4-yards to Derek Hart, for the Barons. Dakota Royer returned a kickoff 83-yards for a touchdown and Taylor Groff kicked a 27-yard field goal and 7 extra points for the Barons. Austin Sauble led the Warriors rushing attack with 26-yards, followed by Brad Vecere with 8, Matt Olphin with 7, Justin Onley with 4, Brian Quinn with 2, Tony Fodel with no yards, and 17-yards recorded for the team. Quarterback Patchin completed 8 of 13 passes for 113-yards and a touchdown, 3 for 86-yards to Lucas Hamm (including a 65-yard touchdown), 2 for 23-yards to Parker Marsh, 2 for 8-yards to Robertson, and 1 for minus 4-yards to Nathan Davis, for the Lions. Dusty Reed led the Squires rushing attack with 86- yareds (including a 27-yard touchdown), followed by Wes Smith with 40, Sam Comly with 29, Austin Brady with 21, and Kodi Reed with no yards. Quarterback Mathews completed 2 of 7 passes for 32-yards, 1 for 19-yards to Liam Rhodes and 1 for 13-yards to Walters, for the Spartans. The Spartans also recorded a safety against the Green Knights. Dylan Ferguson led the Green Knights rushing attack with 42-yards, followed by Cody Kuykendall with 32, Chad Wessinger with 26, Samuel Fissel with 15 (including a 2-yard touchdown), Derek Dick with 10, and Derek McCleaf with 2-yards. Orris passed for 151-yards and 2 touchdowns to Blaine Bower (one on a 65-yard post pattern and one for 11-yards), in his varsity debut filling in for injured starter Tim Kelly. A. D. Huff threw a 15-yard touchdown to Ahren Whitman and scored the tiebreaking touchdown on a 9-yard run for the Colts. The colts amassed 148-yards rushing and 166-yards passing, compared to 88-yards rushing and 113-yards passing for the Patriots. No other information was available regarding the Colts performance. Nick Diller led the Patriots with 63-yards rushing, followed by Brad Medellin with 27 (including a 1-yard touchdown), Ricky Kraynak with 5-yards, Nick Chester with 1- yard, and Devin Howard with minus 8-yards.
