1 THE 3 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS // 8 SEC CHAMPIONSHIPS // 697 ALL-TIME WINS // 48 FIRST-ROUND NFL DRAFT PICKS // 70 FIRST-TEAM ALL-AMERICANS // 245 FIRST-TEAM ALL-SEC SELECTIONS No. 8/11 Florida Gators // 6-0, 4-0 SEC No. 6/5 LSU Tigers // 5-0, 3-0 SEC THE STORYLINE Behind a pair of first-quater touchdown runs from junior running back Kelvin Taylor, UF defeated Missouri, 21-3, in its Saturday night Southeastern Conference showdown in Columbia, Mo. The win marked Florida s ninth 6-0 start and 13th 4-0 inauguration to SEC play in program history, and its first such start since In each of Florida s five 6-0 starts since 1995, the Gators finished the season with at least 11 wins. Also, in six of UF s eight 4-0 starts in SEC play since 1991, Florida finished the year as SEC champions. Jim McElwain has now won 15 of the last 16 games he s coached and he is the first coach since Galen Hall in 1984 to start his career at UF 6-0. UF s defense has been stout across the board, but, most impressively, the Gators are the only team in the only team in the country to play at least two road games without allowing a touchdown. The Gators were +2 in turnover margin at Missouri, and are now +8 on the season, which is the top mark in the conference and ranks eighth in the country. Florida continues to live in its opponents backfields, as the Gators have tallied at least three sacks in six straight games, matching its longest streak since Also, Florida has recorded multiple sacks in seven consecutive games, eclipsing its longest run since 2007 and tying the program s longest streak since Florida ranks seventh in the country in sacks per game (3.50) and 12th tackles for loss (8.2). LAST TIME OUT - MIZZOU Kelvin Taylor rushed for a pair of one-yard touchdown runs and Jalen Tabor returned an interception for a touchdown, as Florida defeated Missouri 21-3 in their Southeastern Conference game last Saturday at Faurot Field. UF quarterback Will Grier, making his second start on the SEC road, led drives of 75 and 82 yards in the first period to give the Gators (6-0, 4-0) the lead over the league s twotime defending East Division champions. Tabor s pick-6, a 40-yarder which came off freshman quarterback Drew Lock in the third period, was his second interception return for a score this season. Grier hit 20 of 33 passes for 208 yards, while Taylor carried 28 times for 99 yards and the two scores. Offensively, UF hardly overpowered the Tigers (4-2, 1-2), finishing with just GAME 7 OCTOBER 17 // 7 P.M. Tiger Stadium (102,321) Offensively, sophomore Treon Harris will start his eighthcareer game at quarterback this week. Harris has a 5-2 record as a starter, including an upset win over No. 9 Georgia in his first career start last season. Harris, who started Florida s final six games of 2014, recorded three touchdown passes of 70 or more yards last season, and UF as a team ranked second nationally (led the SEC) with five passing plays of 70+ yards in On the ground, Taylor has been the featured back as he has totals 114 carries, 438 yards and seven touchdowns. Demarcus Robinson has over 1,000 career receiving yards after tallying eight catches for 98 yards against Ole Miss. Meanwhile, 11 of Jake McGee s 18 receptions (61.1%) in 2015 have gone for first downs or touchdowns. UF travels to Baton Rouge, La. to face LSU (5-0, 3-0) at Tiger Stadium this week in a battle of top-10 programs. This is the first time since Nov. 24, 2012 (FSU) that Florida has played in a top-10 matchup. Florida is ranked in the top 10 for the first time since the start of the 2013 season. The last time Florida won at LSU was on Oct. 11, 2009, when the No. 1 ranked Gators downed the No. 4 Tigers, In that game, Tim Tebow completed 11 of 16 passes and threw one touchdown. Florida is 3-0 this season in games decided by 7 or fewer points; UF was 2-7 in such games the past 2 seasons. Stat Watch: UF s rush defense ranks second in the SEC at 99.2 ypg, while LSU s rush offense sits atop the conference at ypg. 337 yards, but the Gators did what they had to do against the league s top-ranked defense and did not turn the ball over. The Tigers answered the UF score with a 21-yard field goal from Andrew Baggett after true freshman quarterback Drew Lock took his offense down to the Florida 5, before the Gators stiffened on defense. The Florida defense held Missouri to just 257 yards, 12 first downs and 1 for 14 on third-down conversion attempts. The Tigers had a chance to cut into the 11-point margin, but Baggett s 54-yard field goal attempt was wide left. UF s Jorge Powell returned the favor with 3:04 to go in the first half when he missed a 36-yarder. The cumulative record for those 67 coaches is (.492). The average record of the 67 coaches in their inaugural seasons is 5.7 wins against 5.8 losses. Jim McElwain joined Charles Bachman (1928) and Galen Hall (1984) as the only Florida head coaches to begin their career at UF, 6-0. Going along with his great start, Florida is the only team in the country that s 4-0 in conference play. SIX FUN FACTS This week at LSU marks the sixth night contest of the 2015 campaign for the Gators, which is tied for the second most in a regular season since Only UF s 2002 squad played more night games (seven) during the regular season. Antonio Callaway became the second true freshman in Gator history to record a 100-yard receiving game against Tennessee. Reidel Anthony 149 vs. Southern Miss (1994) & 105 vs. Alabama (1994) Antonio Callaway 112 vs. Tennessee (2015) Florida has four players (Demarcus Robinson, Brandon Powell, Antonio Callaway, C yontai Lewis) with multiple touchdown receptions this year, which is tied for its highest total from the past six seasons. The 2009 team was the last group of Gators to have more than four-plus player with multiple receiving touchdowns. Kelvin Taylor is the first RB since Mike Gillislee to rush for at least 80 yards in three-straight games (UT, Ole Miss, Mizzou) Will Grier joined Tim Tebow as the only Gator quarterback since 1996 to have two games with at least 165+ passing yards, 2+ passing touchdowns, zero interceptions and completed at least 80 percent of his passes in TWO games during the same season. Grier also joined JaMarcus Russell (3 2006), Eli Manning (2 2001), Erik Ainge (2 2006), Blake Sims (2 2014), Hutson Mason (2 2014), AJ McCarron (2 2013) and Tebow (2 2009) as one of eight SEC quarterbacks since 1996 to have two such games in a season. Of that group, Grier is the only one to do it as a freshman. Grier and Sims (vs. No. 14 Missouri) are the only two who had one of those games come against a ranked SEC opponent. Only 13 SEC quarterbacks (includes Grier) have two such games in their entire careers since Russell and Tebow lead that group with four career games, while Eli Manning is the next-closest guy with three. Florida is looking to beat its second top-10 ranked team of the season this week. UF last achieved that impressive mark in 2012 by defeating No. 4 LSU (14-6), No. 9 South Carolina (44-11) and No. 10 Florida State (37-26). CROSSING PATHS LSU has four players on its roster from the state of Florida. UF does not have any players from Louisiana. Kavaris Harkless (UF) and Kevin Toliver II (LSU) played together for three years of high school at Trinity Christian in Jacksonville. Nick Washington (UF) and Toliver (LSU) played one year of high school ball together at Trinity too. SERIES HISTORY & LAST MATCHUP Series History Florida 31, LSU The two teams have met every season since 1971 and have clashed 61 times overall. The series has been primarily back-and-forth but Florida holds the longest winning streak at nine games ( ). Recently, there have been two telling stats that has helped describe the winner: 1) The winner of the last 10 games in this series has rushed for more yards. 2) The winner of the turnover battle has won four of the last five games in this series Florida 27, LSU 30 (Gainesville) -- LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye bombed a 50-yard field goal with three seconds to play, giving the Tigers a stunning victory over UF at The Swamp. The game-winner was made possible after Tigers defensive back Rickey Jefferson grabbed a tipped-ball interception off UF quarterback Jeff Driskel, who tried to force a slant pass into slot receiver Latroy Pittman. The Tigers ran one off-tackle handoff, then called on Delahoussaye, whose kick left no doubt -- and left The Swamp drained.

8 FLORIDA S OFFENSE The Gators have outscored their opponents by 38 points (58-20) in the first quarter this year, marking their highest point differential in the first quarter since Florida leads the SEC and ranks tied for eighth among FBS teams with a +8 turnover margin. When winning or tying the turnover battle since 2011, the Gators are 32-6 overall. When losing the turnover battle, UF is 3-15 during that span. Florida TO Margin (from ) In 184 Wins +151; In 64 Losses -65 Florida s offense snapped a 19-game streak without a touchdown on its opening drive when they opened the Missouri game with a 12-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. Florida s 38 points against No. 3 Ole Miss was its highest total against a top-three opponent since a rout of No. 1 Ohio State in the 2007 BCS National Championship Game, while its 28-point margin of victory was its largest against a top-three team since thumping No. 1 Florida State, 52-20, in the 1997 Sugar Bowl and securing the first of its three national championships. By converting all five of their fourth downs against Tennessee--which was their highest single-game total since 1996 and tied for the second-most by an SEC team during that span--the Gators became just the fourth SEC team to achieve a 100-percent conversion rate on fourth down, with a minimum of five attempts, since Moreover, Florida is tied for third among FBS teams in fourth down conversions (10) and are tied for the highest conversion percentage (90.9%) among teams at least four attempts on fourth down. The Gators converted their first 10 fourth downs of the season, marking their longest streak since at least Florida has picked up at least 16 first downs in each of its six games this year, its longest such streak since achieving 16-plus first downs in 10 straight games from Nov. 10, 2012-Oct. 12, Florida amassed over 600 total yards and scored eight offensive touchdowns against New Mexico State, marking the first time since Sept. 12, 2009 versus Troy it reached both of those marks. Florida converted 10 of its 15 third downs against the Aggies, achieving its highest percentage (66.7%) since it went (70.6%) against Kentucky on Sep. 22, The Gators were a perfect 8-for-8 in the red zone against New Mexico State, making it the first time since Sept. 8, 2007 (Troy) UF had a 100-percent conversion rate in at least eight trips inside the red zone. OFFENSIVE LINE UF s offensive line is in its second season under MIKE SUMMERS, the only holdover from Will Muschamp s staff. The Gators have started the same five offensive linemen (CAM DILLARD, MASON HALTER, ANTONIO RILES, DAVID SHARPE, TRIP THURMAN) at the same five positions in each of their first six games, marking the first time since 2008 they achieived such continuity. Florida returned the fewest combined starts (10) on its offensive line in the SEC, and third-fewest in the nation. Only Florida State (9) and Toledo (4) returned less. RUSHING KELVIN TAYLOR is one of five UF running backs since 1996 with at least five career multi-rushing touchdown games. Taylor s seven rushing touchdowns this year are already tied for the most by a Gator since 2012 (Mike Gillislee, 10) and tied for the eighth-most by a Gator since 2005, while his five rushing scores in SEC games are equal to the highest season total by a Gator running back since Taylor scored a rushing touchdown in Florida s first four games, becoming the first Gator since Tim Tebow (2009) and first UF running back since Ciatrick Faison (2004) with a rushing score in four straight games. Four different Gators (JORDAN CRONKRITE, WILL GRIER, JORDAN SCARLETT, Taylor) scored a rushing touchdown against New Mexico State, marking the first time that s occurred since Nov. 20, 2010 versus Appalachian State. Gator tight ends combined for 100 yards in each of the first two games, marking the first time since Sept. 5 and Sept. 12, 2009 the position group totaled at least 100 yards in consecutive games. DeANDRE GOOLSBY and McGee are two of the five SEC tight ends with 130+ yards and a touchdown this season. Eleven of McGee s 18 receptions (56.3 percent) this year have gone for first downs or touchdowns. Goolsby is one of four SEC tight ends since 2013 (and only the fourth Gator tight end since 1996) to finish a game with 90+ yards and a receiving touchdown, doing so against East Carolina. He s also one of 14 FBS tight ends to have such a game this season. Goolsby s 94 receiving yards against ECU were the most by a Gator tight end since the 2010 Sugar Bowl. Versus NMSU, Gator tight ends (Goolsby, C YONTAI LEWIS, McGee) amassed 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns for the first time since Nov. 17, 2007 (Florida Atlantic). 12 HEAD COACH JIM McELWAIN Athletics director Jeremy Foley announced Jim McElwain as the 25th head coach of the Florida football program on December 4, In his third season at Colorado State, McElwain was named the 2014 Mountain West Coach of the Year and the AFCA Region 5 Coach of the Year after he led the Rams to a 10-2 record with a bowl appearance. McElwain, a 30-year coaching veteran, spent the seasons as offensive coordinator at Alabama, where he played a key role in leading the Crimson Tide to two BCS national championships (2009 and 11). It s an honor to be a part of the one of most powerful brands in college athletics in the Florida Gators, said McElwain. I m humbled, yet very excited about the tremendous opportunity that Dr. Machen and Jeremy Foley have afforded me and my family. I can t tell you how eager I am to get to Gainesville to set a course for who we are going to be and what we will be all about. Coach McElwain was someone we targeted from the beginning of the search, said Foley. The more we worked through the process and did our due diligence, coupled with our meeting and conversations with him and those around him, it was obvious he is the right person to lead the Florida Gator football program. COACHING ACCOMPLISHMENTS Took over a struggling CSU program and turned it around in just three seasons. The Rams had not had back-to-back winning seasons since and had won just three games each of the three years prior to McElwain s arrival. After going 4-8 in his first season in Fort Collins, CSU won eight games in 2013, its most wins in 12 seasons, including a victory in the New Mexico Bowl over Washington State. The Rams offense arguably was the best in school history in 2014, as quarterback Garrett Grayson, wide receiver Rashard Higgins and running back Dee Hart led an explosive attack. Grayson, the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year, ranked among the nation s passing leaders with 4,006 yards, 32 touchdowns and a passer rating. Higgins, a Biletnikoff Award finalist, led the nation with receiving yards per game and 17 touchdowns. Hart rushed for 1,275 yards with 16 touchdowns on the ground. Through 12 games in the regular season (McElwain did not coach the bowl game), CSU averaged a school-record yards per game (13th nationally) and averaged 7.2 yards per play (4th nationally). The Rams passing attack led the way with record-breaking numbers, averaging yards per game (7th nationally) and 9.2 yards per pass attempt (2nd nationally). They also ranked 25th in the nation scoring 35.9 points per game. The 2013 New Mexico Bowl win capped an 8-6 season that saw McElwain s team re-write the school s record book in several offensive categories, including new standards for single-season points scored (507) and yards per game (470.8). The 2013 Rams scored 50 or more points four times and topped the 500-yard mark for total offense eight times, both school records, and were the only team in Division I FBS to feature a 3,500-yard passer (Garrett Grayson, 3,696) and a 1,500-yard rusher (Kapri Bibbs, 1,741). Colorado State made the second-biggest improvement among FBS schools in scoring offense from 2012 to 2013 (from 100th to 22nd) behind Auburn (from 112th to 12th). The Rams year-toyear improvement in total offense was fourth-biggest in FBS (100th to 24th) behind Auburn (+104), Washington (+84) and Missouri (+80). In four seasons at Alabama, McElwain played a key role in the Tide compiling an overall record of 48-6, serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. His offense led the nation by committing only 57 turnovers in that period and sent two players to the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York: 2009 winner Mark Ingram and 2011 finalist Trent Richardson. In 2011, Alabama led the SEC in rushing at yards per game (16th nationally), ranked second in total offense at total yards per contest (31st nationally) and third in scoring at 34.8 points per game (20th nationally). McElwain also had recruiting responsibilities in the state of Florida while coaching at Alabama. In back-to-back seasons, McElwain led the Alabama offense to record-breaking seasons. During the 2009 National Championship season, the Tide offense set a school record with 5,642 yards from scrimmage. The 2010 offense topped that total as the Tide offense set new school marks for total yards (5,773) and total passing yards (3,395) in one fewer game than In 2010 under McElwain s tutelage, quarterback Greg McElroy set single-season passing records with a 70.9 completion percentage, 20 touchdown passes and 2,987 yards. He finished the year fourth nationally in pass efficiency with a rating of His completion percentage that season was the second-best in SEC history. McElwain s 2008 offense proved to be one of the nation s most efficient and productive units. Alabama finished fifth in the SEC in scoring offense (30.1 ppg) and 35th nationally after ranking 64th (seventh in the SEC) in that category in 2007 with an average of 27.1 ppg. At Fresno State in 2007 he made an immediate impact, helping lead the Bulldogs to a 9-4 record, including a triumph over Georgia Tech in the Humanitarian Bowl. McElwain served as the assistant head coach, receivers coach and special teams coach at Michigan State from In 2005, five Spartan receivers had at least 28 receptions and the group combined to a set another school record with 24 touchdown catches. He coached 2004 All-America punter Brandon Fields and kicker Dave Rayner, who led the Big Ten Conference in scoring. The 2003 MSU team reached the Alamo Bowl behind a receiving corps that set school records for receptions (312) and yards (3,510). Prior to his stint at Michigan State, McElwain spent three seasons ( ) at Louisville as the receivers coach and special teams coach as the Cardinals earned bowl bids in each of those three seasons. He coached four first-team All-Conference USA selections at Louisville and also tutored three of the Cardinals all-time leading receivers, including Deion Branch and Arnold Jackson. From , McElwain was the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks and receivers coach at Montana State. Under his direction, quarterback Rob Compson threw for nearly 7,000 career yards and a school-record 54 touchdowns. McElwain also coached the Bobcats all-time leading receiver Chip Hobbs, who caught 144 career passes for 2,060 yards and 18 TDs. McElwain was at Eastern Washington from in a variety of capacities, starting as a graduate assistant and working his way up to quarterbacks and receivers coach. The Eagles made two NCAA Division I-AA playoff appearances (1985 and 1992) and earned a share of the Big Sky Championship in McElwain coached EWU s all-time leading receiver, Tony Brooks (2,969 career yards), who earned third team AP All-America honors in NOTABLE QUARTERBACKS UNDER JIM McELWAIN Name School NFL Draft Drew Stanton Michigan State 2nd Round (2007) Brian Hoyer Michigan State Undrafted Greg McElroy Alabama 7th Round (2011) A.J. 13 WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT HEAD COACH JIM McELWAIN Coach McElwain was someone we targeted from the beginning of the search. The more we worked through the process and did our due diligence, coupled with our meeting and conversations with him and those around him, it was obvious he is the right person to lead the Florida Gator football program. -- UF Athletics Director Jeremy Foley TIM TEBOW // PHILADELPHIA EAGLES QUARTERBACK He s someone who has a great track record. He s been in big-time games. He s been in big-time situations. He s been at a school where there s a lot of pressure and at Florida you need to know how to handle big games and a lot of pressure because that s something that comes with being the head coach at UF. DANTE FOWLER, JR. // JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS LINEBACKER He s a great, cool guy. I m not going to lie. He s a winner. He s very competitive and he s confident that he knows what he s doing. He put together a great coaching staff with Randy Shannon and a lot of great coaches. He s going to put the program back on top. They re going to have fun. He s serious, but he makes sure you enjoy football. Before he got to CSU, we were missing that. He changed the atmosphere, made it more of a family culture. So Florida football, I won t be surprised if they re battling for an NCAA championship in a couple of years. A.J. McCARRON // CINCINNATI BENGALS QUARTERBACK He was an unbelievable coach for me, not only as a player, but as a person. He just taught me a lot about life, how to act, what to do, what not to do. He means the world to me. NICK SABAN // ALABAMA HEAD COACH First of all he s a real quality person. Players really respect him and like him. He s a really good teacher. He s innovative in terms of things that he does that create problems. And I think he really has the best interest of the player in mind, and the game. BRIAN GRIESE // ESPN ANALYST I think Jim McElwain is a slam-dunk hire. Let s put it that way. He can flat-out coach. From a quarterback s perspective, I love this hire. BARRETT SALLEE // BLEACHER REPORT SEC WRITER McElwain doesn t have the same name recognition that Meyer had when he came to Gainesville prior to the 2005 season, but he has similar credentials. Offensive guru? Check. Proven winner? Check. What s not to like? SHAQ BELL // FORMER COLORADO STATE CORNERBACK He s an up-front guy. When I met with him, he told me he wanted me to be a leader. That s from like 1-on-1 meetings. He ll stay on you about it. He holds everyone accountable. He doesn t have any favorites. He coaches everybody the same. BARRETT JONES // ST. LOUIS RAMS OFFENSIVE LINEMAN Mac s greatest strength is that he s a tremendous teacher of the game. He has a special ability to put things in terms that guys can understand. He s also great at getting guys to buy into the system and understands how to put guys in positions where they will be successful. GREG McELROY // SEC NETWORK ANALYST He s one of the most relatable coaches I ve ever been around. His ability to feature players in game plans and getting players to buy in are a few of his greatest strengths. He s a diligent worker and is fiercely competitive. Florida Gator fans should rejoice. PAT FORDE // YAHOO! SPORTS COLUMNIST I believe the Gators hired a guy who can win in McElwain. He dramatically upgraded CSU and brings a Nick Saban-style organizational approach to Gainesville. McElwain has proven himself as a head coach, and he knows offense. DESMOND HOWARD // ESPN ANALYST What I ve heard about Coach McElwain is that he lets his assistant coaches coach. He likes to get guys who have experience in multiple systems, meaning that you re not just focused on one type of system; you re very flexible. He can get guys to play for him because he s not trying to tailor them just to one specific system. one of the most relatable coaches I ve ever been around.
