2 NEWS & NOTES GLAD TO HAAVE HER One of the top players in the history of the prestigious Tennessee program, Tanya Haave has repeated that success during her career as MSU Denver s head women s basketball coach. With an overtime win at Chadron State on Dec. 1, Haave became the program s all-time winningest coach. She is now in her ninth season, and passed Darryl Smith, who compiled 159 wins. SEEKING 1,000 MSU Denver senior Jaelynn Smith beat teammate Emily Hartegan in the race to become the 12th member of the program s 1,000-point club. Smith surpassed 1,000 by scoring 22 points Dec. 1 at Chadron State and currently has 1,004. Hartegan has 985. They are joining two members of last year s team who reached 1,000 points during their careers. Georgia Ohrdorf, who reached 1,000 during the final game of her junior season, finished her career second in program history with 1,507 points, while J Nae Squires-Horton scored 1,046 points in just three seasons in a Roadrunners uniform. WHAT S IN A J? THAT WHICH WE CALL... Apologies for paraphrasing Shakespeare s line about What s in a name, but it s fitting on the MSU Denver roster dominated by the letter J. There s Jaelynn Smith, Jaela Richardson and Jaiden Galloway, whose first names first syllable makes the J sound. Plus, Jonalyn Wittwer also has a first name that starts with the English language s 11th letter. And don t forget about Abbigail Juozapaitis who, for obvious reasons, is known as Abbie J. SEEING TRIPLE Senior guard Jaelynn Smith continues to flirt with her first career triple double. She had 15 points, seven rebounds and nine assists in a near upset of then-no. 7 West Texas A&M on Nov. 17, and she also had 11 points, seven rebounds and nine assists in a win over Winona State. Smith has twice been second-team All- RMAC, and was preseason All-RMAC this year. SHE S A HELPER Not only is Jaelynn Smith the 12th member of the program s 1,000-point club, but she also has 33 assists through six games this season, That gives her 406 for her career, second-best in school history. She passed Stephanie Allen ( ), who had 393 career assists, during a nine-assist game Nov. 24 vs. Winona State (Minn.). Jasmine Cervantes ( ) is the Roadrunners all-time leader with 462. THE BIG E Though she s a Dirk Nowitzki fan, Emily Hartegan, since her first name starts with E, can also be comared to Elvin Hayes in her contributions for the Roadrunners. Since she leads the team in points (17.5 per game) and rebounds (6.8), it can be said that the Roadrunners are riding the E Line to campus. 2

Haave vs. Opponents A three-time Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference coach of the year, Haave is in her her ninth season as the head coach of the Roadrunners in With an overall record of , she passed Darryl Smith as the winningest coach in school history on Dec. 1 at Chadron State. Haave led MSU Denver back to the NCAA Division II national tournament in , as the Roadrunners went 23-9 overall, placed second in the RMAC at 17-5, and defeated conference rival Colorado State University-Pueblo in the first round of the South Central Regional.
