The first day s activities will conclude when Round 2 comes to a close. Rounds 3-7 will be conducted on Sunday, April 26 beginning at 9 a.m. CDT. The Titans currently hold at least one pick in every round and have two selections in the fourth, sixth and seventh rounds. Four of their picks (fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh rounds) were awarded as compensatory choices based on net unrestricted free agency losses in The Dallas Cowboys own the Titans original fifth-round pick as a result of the Pacman Jones trade in Fans can watch the draft in its entirety on NFL Network and ESPN, while radio listeners can tune to one of 65-plus stations on the Titans Radio Network, including Nashville flagship WKDF and sister station The Zone. DRAFT OVERVIEW 2009 TITANS DRAFT SELECTIONS Selection Overall Round In Round Selection * * * * * Compensatory selection based on 2008 net loss in unrestricted free agency Note: Original fifth-round pick (30th in round, 166th overall) and Pacman Jones sent to Dallas in exchange for 2008 fourth-round pick THE 30TH SELECTION The order of picks in the NFL Draft is determined by teams winning percentages during the season. Teams with the lowest winning percentage pick first, and teams with the highest winning percentage select last. The only exceptions are the two Super Bowl participants, who draft in the 31st and 32nd slots. The Titans had the NFL s best regular season record during the 2008 season, meaning they own the 30th pick, the final selection of the non-super Bowl teams. Only once before have the Titans earned a pick as low as No. 30. That was in 2000 after they won the AFC and lost Super Bowl XXXIV. With the 30th of 31 firstround picks (there were 31 NFL franchises at the time), the Titans selected linebacker Keith Bulluck, who has played in all but one game since being drafted and is the team s third alltime leading tackler. With the 30th pick in the draft last year, the New York Jets selected tight end Dustin Keller, who recorded 48 receptions as a rookie. Other notable players selected recently with the 30th pick include running back Joseph Addai (by Indianapolis in 2006), tight end Heath Miller (Pittsburgh, 2005), guard Kendall Simmons (Pittsburgh, 2002), wide receiver Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis, 2001) and Patrick Kerney (Atlanta, 1999). MEDIA ADVISORY: PRE-DRAFT PRESS CONFERENCE The Titans will hold a pre-draft press conference on Thursday, April 23 in the Baptist Sports Park auditorium. Reinfeldt and other members of the team s front office will be on hand to discuss the draft and scouting process. The press conference s exact time will be announced later. titansonline.com

3 TITANS DRAFT HEADQUARTERS While the NFL will be conducting the draft from New York, the Titans will be situated in Nashville at Baptist Sports Park, located in MetroCenter. There the media will have access to NFL Network and ESPN draft coverage and information on all of the team s draft selections. Typically after each pick, head coach Jeff Fisher and a Titans scout or assistant coach will be made available to answer questions in the Baptist Sports Park auditorium. Additionally, the media will be placed on a conference call with each of the team s picks. At the conclusion of each day of the draft (Saturday and Sunday), general manager Mike Reinfeldt will be available to reporters. The team also plans to bring its top selection to team headquarters to meet with reporters on Sunday evening. WHO S IN NEW YORK? Representatives of all 32 NFL clubs will be present at Radio City Music Hall in New York. The representatives are in constant phone contact with their clubs, who instruct the representatives to turn in a card with the selected player s name on it. The Titans are represented by Frank Fitzgerald Sr., who has enjoyed a decades-long association with the NFL and has had a relationship with the Titans franchise since the early 1990s. Also present are his son, Frank Fitzgerald Jr., and Harry Pritts. Frank Sr. and his wife, Adelaide, reside in Larchmont, N.Y. TYPICAL PROCEDURE FOR EACH PICK The following is a typical series of events for each draft pick the Titans make: The Titans go on the clock (10 minutes for Round 1, seven minutes for Round 2, five minutes for Rounds 3-7) immediately following the announcement of the previous team s pick. After general manager Mike Reinfeldt, head coach Jeff Fisher and the personnel staff decides upon the pick, Fisher calls the player on the phone to inform him of the selection. Reinfeldt communicates the pick to the team s draft representatives (Frank Fitzgerald Sr., Frank Fitzgerald Jr. and Harry Pritts) at Radio City Music Hall in New York. The team representatives in New York submit a card to NFL personnel with the player s name, school and position. The selection is announced at the podium in Radio City Music Hall by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell (first round) or vice president Gene Washington (second through seventh rounds). Media at Baptist Sports Park in Nashville receive bios and other information on the selection and are placed on a conference call with the player. Fisher and another member of the team s coaching or scouting staff meet with the media in the Baptist Sports Park auditorium. The process repeats itself until the end of the draft day, when Reinfeldt and Fisher meet with the media for a final time. At the end of the second day, the team s top pick is typically flown into Nashville to meet with the media. GENERAL MANAGER MIKE REINFELDT Mike Reinfeldt is entering his 30th season in the NFL, his third as executive vice president/general manager and 11th with the Oilers/Titans franchise. Reinfeldt s first tenure with the team was from as an All-Pro safety. He re-joined the franchise in 2007 after spending seven years with the Seattle Seahawks. In his 17 years as an NFL executive with Tennessee, Seattle and Green Bay, including 2008, his teams have won a combined seven division titles, made 12 playoff appearances, four NFC Championship game appearances, three Super Bowl appearances, captured one world title (1996) and amassed 14 winning seasons. This year s draft is the third being led in Tennessee by Reinfeldt. In the past two years, he directed the selection of 17 total players. Safety Michael Griffin, the Titans 2007 first-round selection and Reinfeldt s first-ever draft pick as a general manager, tied for second in the NFL in 2008 with seven interceptions and was added to the Pro Bowl roster. The team s first-round pick in 2008, running back Chris Johnson, also earned a Pro Bowl berth after rushing for 1,228 yards as a rookie. In Reinfeldt s first two years of free agency with the Titans ( ), key players added to the roster included cornerback Nick Harper, wide receiver Justin Gage and guard Jake Scott. In 2009, the Titans have added several new names -- wide receiver Nate Washington, defensive tackle Jovan Haye, returner/wide receiver Mark Jones, cornerback DeMarcus Faggins and quarterback Patrick Ramsey. Reinfeldt also has worked to retain several key players through contract extensions. Since the start of the 2008 offseason, nine starters have signed new, multi-year deals: Gage, fullback Ahmard Hall, defensive tackle Tony Brown, guard Eugene Amano, cornerback Cortland Finnegan, bookend offensive tackles Michael Roos and David Stewart, quarterback Kerry Collins and nickel defensive back Vincent Fuller. Additionally, Reinfeldt helped bring aboard new members of the team s administration upon his arrival, including Senior Director of Football Administration Vincent Marino and Director of Pro Personnel Lake Dawson. Each has made significant contributions to the team since arriving in In Seattle, Reinfeldt last held the title of Vice President of Football Administration and was responsible for player contract negotiations, salary cap management, player evaluations and numerous aspects of the day-to-day football operations. In eight seasons with the Packers, he served a number of roles, including Chief Financial Officer for three years ( ) and VP of Administration from Before joining the Packers in 1991, Reinfeldt spent three years ( ) at the University of Southern California as the associate athletic director and spent another three years ( ) with the L.A. Raiders as CFO. A former safety for the Oilers franchise from , Reinfeldt earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in He ranks seventh on the club s career interception list with 26 and matched the team record for interceptions in a season with 12 in An undrafted free agent out of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he originally signed with the Oakland Raiders and played in two games before being released and signed by the Oilers. 5 MOST PICKS FROM The draft remains the primary source of roster talent for the Titans. The club currently has 28 players under contract (as of April 7) who they originally drafted. In particular, the four most recent drafts have supplied many of the current Tennessee players. The Titans selected 38 players from 2005 through 2008, a number that ranks third in the NFL in that period behind only Green Bay (43) and Tampa Bay (39). Of that group of Titans, 24 players remain under contract. Most draft picks, : Team Picks 1. Green Bay Tampa Bay Tennessee Philadelphia 37 St. Louis Atlanta 35 Baltimore 35 Carolina 35 Indianapolis 35 Kansas City 35 San Francisco 35 IMPACT PICKS FROM General manager Mike Reinfeldt has operated the last two Titans drafts. Under his watch, the team has selected several players who have made an early impact, including the following four players who were among the team s statistical leaders in 2008: RB Chris Johnson (first round in 2008) -- Led the team with 1,228 rushing yards as a rookie and was named to the Pro Bowl. DT Jason Jones (second round in 2008) -- Led all NFL rookie defensive linemen in 2008 with five sacks and added 49 tackles. S Michael Griffin (first round in 2007) -- Started 26 games in his first two seasons and in 2008 was named to the Pro Bowl after tying for second place in the NFL with seven interceptions. DE Jacob Ford (sixth round in 2007) -- Ranked second on the team and sixth among AFC defensive ends in his second season with seven sacks. THE DRAFT AND TRADES More often than not in recent history, the Titans draft is altered by at least one trade. The 2007 draft was the only time among the last seven drafts in which the Titans did not deal or acquire picks during draft weekend. They changed position at least once in each draft from , including the swapping of choices within the first three rounds for additional picks in 2002, 2004, 2005 and At minimum, the 2009 draft will be affected by one trade. The Titans dealt Pacman Jones to the Dallas Cowboys during the 2008 draft. They received the Cowboys 2008 fourth-round pick, but as a result of an additional trade stipulation, they will surrender their fifth-rounder in 2009 to the Cowboys due to Jones NFL suspension during the season. Also in 2008, the Titans traded up in the draft for the first time since the Nickey trade in They jumped up 23 spots in the fourth round in a trade with Washington to acquire defensive end William Hayes. A complete list of trades involving Titans draft picks since 1999 appears on pages of this release. 6 SECOND-DAY SELECTIONS The Titans currently hold eight second-day draft picks. The second day of the 2009 draft will mirror 2008, the first year the Sunday of the draft was altered to include Rounds 3-7. Prior to 2008, Rounds 4-7 were held on the second day. The Titans have found in recent years a number of hidden gems on the second day of the draft that have become productive players and starters. Since 1995, the franchise has found 20 regular starters (started 10 games or more in at least one season) through the years with second day selections. In the last five drafts, significant second-day choices who remain starters with the Titans include guard Eugene Amano (seventh round in 2004), tackle David Stewart (fourth round in 2005), linebacker Stephen Tulloch (fourth round in 2006), tight end Bo Scaife (sixth round in 2006) and cornerback Cortland Finnegan (seventh round in 2006). Titans regular starters found on second day of draft since 1995 (started at least 10 games in one or more seasons): Draft Year Player Position Round 1995 Michael Roan TE Gary Walker DE Jon Runyan T Derrick Mason WR Benji Olson G Kevin Long C Peter Sirmon LB Robaire Smith DT Justin McCareins WR Justin Hartwig C Carlos Hall DE Jacob Bell G David Stewart T Roydell Williams WR Bo Scaife TE Reynaldo Hill CB Eugene Amano G Calvin Lowry S Stephen Tulloch LB Cortland Finnegan CB 7 UNDRAFTED SUCCESS At the conclusion of Round 7 of the draft, the TItans personnel department remains at work. At that point, General Manager Mike Reinfeldt and his staff contact undrafted players the team hopes to sign as free agents. Last year, the Titans announced the signing of 10 rookie free agents in the days immediately following the draft. Two of those players -- running back Rafael Little and center/guard Fernando Velasco -- have been with the team since they were signed. Little spent the 2008 season on the reserve/non-football injury list, and Velasco served on the practice squad through the season. The 10-player total in 2008 was a recent team low in rookie free agent signings. The club signed 12 undrafted rookies in In the prior six years, a minumum of 20 undrafted free agent signings were announced after the draft in 2001, 20 in 2002, 34 in 2003, 27 in 2004, 36 in 2005 and 23 in Veteran players currently on the Titans roster who originally entered the NFL as undrafted free agents include LB Colin Allred, LS Ken Amato, K Rob Bironas, DT Tony Brown, LB Ryan Fowler, FB Ahmard Hall (signed following supplemental draft), CB Nick Harper, DB Tuff Harris, LB Josh Stamer and WR Nate Washington. SELECTING OFFENSE OR DEFENSE FIRST Since the team s initial draft as a charter member of the American Football League in 1960, the Titans have made 44 first-round selections, using that pick on an offensive player 24 times and on defense 20 times. On offense, running backs lead the list, having been chosen eight times in the first round, three of which were Heisman Trophy winners: Billy Cannon (1960), Earl Campbell (1978) and Eddie George (1996). The most recent was Chris Johnson, the 24th overall selection in 2008 who went on to rush for 1,228 yards as a rookie. On the defensive side of the ball, linebackers have been selected the most -- seven times -- by the Titans in the first round. Robert Brazile (1975), Lamar Lathon (1990) and Keith Bulluck (2000) headline the linebackers chosen. A complete breakdown of Tennessee's first-round selections follows below. Breakdown of Titans' All-Time First-Round Picks by Position: Offense 24 Defense 20 Running Back 8 Linebacker 7 Tackle 4 Defensive Tackle 4 Quarterback 4 Defensive End 5 Wide Receiver 2 Cornerback 3 Guard 4 Safety 1 Tight End 2 Center 0 In seven of the last 10 drafts, Tennessee has chosen a defensive player with its initial pick: S Michael Griffin (2007), CB Pacman Jones (2005), CB Andre Woolfolk (2003), DT Albert Haynesworth (2002), CB Andre Dyson (second round in 2001), LB Keith Bulluck (2000) and DE Jevon Kearse (1999). The offensive players selected first by the Titans in the last 10 years include TE Ben Troupe (second round in 2004), QB Vince Young (2006) and Johnson (2008). DRAFT PICKS BY CONFERENCE Since 1994, the first year of the NFL s current seven-round draft format, the Titans have selected 24 players from the Big Ten and SEC, more than any other conferences. The Big 12 and Pac-10 are tied for second on the list, with 15 players per league being drafted by the Titans in that time, followed by the ACC (12). In 2008, the SEC had 35 players drafted into the NFL, which led all conferences. The next highest totals belonged to the Pac-10 (34), ACC (33), Big 12 (29) and Big Ten (28). 7 DRAFT PICKS BY POSITION In 49 drafts in the history of the organization, the team has drafted more offensive linemen than any other position. There have been a total of 180 tackles, guards and centers drafted, 72 more than the next highest drafted position, running back/fullback, which has had 108 players drafted by the Titans. In 2008, the Titans used their seven draft picks on two defensive linemen (Jason Jones and William Hayes) and one running back (Chris Johnson), linebacker (Stanford Keglar), cornerback (Cary Williams), wide receiver (Lavelle Hawkins) and tight end (Craig Stevens). Below is a breakdown of the team s 729 all-time draft picks by position groups. Titans all-time drafts by position group: FREE AGENCY UPDATE The Titans began the offseason with 14 players due to reach unrestricted free agency. They have re-signed four players and have lost six players to other teams. Three free agents remain unsigned, and tight end Bo Scaife received the club s franchise designation, giving the club the option to match another team s contract offer or receive two first-round picks as compensation. Unrestricted free agents are players who have completed four or more NFL seasons and whose contracts have expired. They became free to negotiate and sign with any club once the free agency period began on February 27 with no rights held by the old club. He appeared in 49 games with seven starts during his four seasons with the Steelers and collected 104 career receptions for 1,705 yards with 12 touchdowns. In 2008, the former undrafted free agent out of Tiffin University recorded career highs with 40 catches and 631 receiving yards, while scoring three touchdowns. Jovan Haye, a veteran of four NFL seasons, spent the majority of the past three years with Tampa Bay after beginning his career with the Carolina Panthers. The former Vanderbilt Commodore has recorded 30 starts in 42 career games, and his statistics include 118 tackles, six sacks, one forced fumble and four fumble recoveries. In 2007, he achieved career highs with 16 starts, 97 tackles and six sacks. Mark Jones, a former Tennessee Volunteer, has five previous years of NFL experience, including one season with the New York Giants (2004), three campaigns with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ( ) and one with the Panthers (2008). In 59 career games, his statistics include a 9.4-yard average (1,460 yards) on 156 punt returns and a 24.2-yard average (1,405 yards) on 58 career kickoff returns. In 2008, his 11.4-yard punt return average ranked third in the NFC and seventh in the NFL, and his kickoff return average of 24.0 yards was the best by a Panthers returner since 2001 (Steve Smith). DeMarcus Faggins joins the Titans after spending his first seven NFL seasons with the Houston Texans. In 82 career games in Houston he collected 193 tackles, five interceptions, 52 passes defensed, a sack, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. The former sixth-round selection from Kansas State appeared in all 32 games over the last two seasons with 13 combined starts. Patrick Ramsey is entering his eighth NFL season. Previously he spent four seasons with the Washington Redskins ( ), one season with the New York Jets (2006) and the past two years with the Denver Broncos ( ). In 37 career games (24 starts), the former first-round draft choice out of Tulane has completed 511 of 913 passes for 5,930 yards with 35 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. 8 If the Titans are going to make a third consecutive playoff appearance following the 2009 season, they will have to navigate a challenging schedule that includes several games against playoff teams, match-ups with each of the Super Bowl XLIII participants and lengthy travel. A PAIR OF FIRSTS: For the first time, the Cardinals will play a game in Tennessee. The two teams will meet for only the ninth time in the regular season and for the first time outside of Arizona since 1994, when the then-houston Oilers hosted the game. The Cardinals will become the last of the NFL s 32 current franchises to play a game at LP Field, which opened in The Titans have had success in playing teams making their initial appearance at LP Field, building a 23-7 record (.767) in those games. In their first visit to Seattle since 1998, they will play for the first time at Qwest Field, which opened in PRESEASON OPPONENTS SET: The Titans will be featured prominently in two nationally televised preseason contests Sunday, Aug. 9 against Buffalo in the Hall of Fame Game (NBC from Canton, Ohio) and Friday, Aug. 21 at Dallas in the debut of the new Cowboys Stadium (FOX). Tennessee will travel to Cleveland to face the Browns during week three of the preseason (weekend of Aug ). Final dates and times will be announced later this month. Single-game tickets for both the regular season and preseason will go on sale to the general public in July. TEAM CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY: The Titans will reach a special milestone in the 50th anniversary of the founding of the team and the formation of the American Football League. In 1959, after failing to acquire NFL franchises through expansion or purchase, Lamar Hunt and K.S. Bud Adams, Jr. resolved to form a new, competing professional football league. Hunt and Adams recruited other owners, who like themselves were looking to enter the world of football ownership but had been rebuffed. The eight original teams, whose owners would later be dubbed the Foolish Club for taking on the NFL, were: the Houston Oilers (later to be known as the Tennessee Titans), Dallas Texans (Kansas City Chiefs), Denver Broncos, New York Titans (New York Jets), Los Angeles Chargers (San Diego Chargers), Buffalo Bills, Boston Patriots (New England Patriots) and Oakland Raiders. Oakland received a franchise after Minnesota, initially in the AFL group, was awarded an NFL expansion team. The AFL played its first games in 1960, and Adams Oilers went on to win the first two AFL Championships. The Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins were added to the league later in the decade, and in 1970, the AFL and NFL were officially merged, becoming the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference. The Titans will celebrate their 50th season in a number of avenues, including a special logo to commemorate the season. The logo will be used throughout the year and integrated into a number of platforms on and off the field. Additionally, the NFL has also scheduled Legacy Games in which the 8

The dates and opponents for those games will be revealed when the regular season schedule is announced later this month. It seems like yesterday that Lamar Hunt and I were getting together to talk about forming a new league, said Adams. The past 49 seasons have brought the fans and me great joy and at times great pain, but it has been a dream come true and a lot of hard work to own a team. It is hard to imagine how far pro football has come since 1960, and I am thrilled that we are able to celebrate the team s roots this season in several different ways. We wanted to incorporate both franchise logos into our 50-year logo and I am really pleased with the results. This year is also special because it marks the 50th anniversary of our first championship. The 50-year logo will be used for merchandise, marketing materials and throughout the team s publication platforms this year. Additionally, a special AFL commemorative jersey patch will be worn by all eight original teams this season. The Hall of Fame Game on August 9th against Buffalo features the only two living original AFL owners in Adams and Ralph Wilson; both teams will wear their throwback uniforms. Among many other elements of the celebration are heritage boards installed at LP Field in 2008 which illustrate many of the Oiler marks and logos, including the original Roughneck from The heritage boards are located at the main entrances on the east and west sides of LP Field.
