2 C-USA Tournament Notes The Blazers have never won the tournament title and have made it to the championship game once as the No. 8 seed in 2000, falling to Tulane, was the lowest seed to ever make the title game. Tulsa, which is hosting the 2010 C-USA Tournament, won its only tournament title in 2006, claiming a victory over Rice. The tournament has been held one other time at the Reynolds Center, in 2007, when (3) East Carolina defeated (4) Rice, Interestingly, the last time the Blazers made the semifinals was in 2007 when the tournament also was held at the Reynolds Center. had a first-round bye after earning the No. 2 seed then defeated No. 10 seed Tulsa, 67-65, in the quarterfinals. The Blazers fell to third-seeded East Carolina, 85-81, in the semifinals. The Blazers and Green Wave have met three times previously in the tournament, with Tulane owning a 3-0 advantage. This marks the second time in history that has earned the No. 6 seed in the C-USA Tournament. The last time the Blazers were seeded sixth was in 1999 when lost to 11th-seeded Charlotte, This is the first time a No. 6 seed has advanced to the title game. Harris Approaching Records: Freshman guard Jala Harris is quickly approaching multiple school records. Harris currently ranks second on the school s freshman single-season list with 493 points. The Madison, Ala., native surpassed Valencia Buckner for the freshman assist record after tallying four against Tulsa on Monday and has 100 on the season. 5 peterson Sets record Not only did junior guard Amanda Peterson set a single-game C-USA tournament record with eight 3-pointers in the semifinals against Houston, but she also set a record for treys in a season by a Blazer. Peterson has 82 3-pointers this year, breaking Uvette Dabney s record of 80 set in the season. Peterson is moving her way up through the school and C-USA career ranks as well. She currently has 215 treys, good for second in school history behind Gina Sutko s 245. The Homewood, Ala., is fifth in league history for career 3-pointers, surpassing Cincinnati s Jolinda Lewis after her performance against Houston. jones honored Guard Amber Jones earned C-USA s final Freshman of the Week award following her performance in s win over Memphis on Thursday. Jones led all scorers with 16 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out an assist. It marked the second freshman award of the season for Jones and the seventh overall for the Blazers. Fabulous freshmen The freshman class has made an immediate impact in its first season. The young Blazers have accounted for 52 percent of the scoring this season, which ranks third in the nation. The group of six has also combined for 49 percent of s playing time, good for second. Harris does it again Freshman guard Jala Harris earned her fourth consecutive C-USA Freshman of the Week honor on Feb. 1 after averaging 32.0 points per game over two games, including a 40-point performance against Marshall on Jan. 30. It marked the first time in league history a player captured four straight weekly honors. The Madison, Ala., native shot 46 percent from the field and 56.3 percent from 3-point range while averaging 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. has claimed seven of the 16 freshman weekly awards, with Harris garnering five overall and guard Amber Jones earning two. a noteworthy performance Harris performance against Marshall not only was the best in conference play this season, but also is historic, as her 40 points set a record for points in a game by a C-USA freshman. She also is just the third player in C-USA history to score 40-or-more points in a league game. The other two to accomplish the feat were ECU s Courtney Willis in 2004 and Memphis Tamika Whitmore in It also marked the most points by a Blazer since Wanda Hightower scored 44 in Harris is one of only three Division I freshmen to have cracked the 40- point mark this season. Dukes Doubles Senior forward Tamika Dukes continued her consistency throughout conference play, reaching double-figures in all but one contest. Dukes had her first double-double of the season and third of her career with 19 points and 13 rebounds against SMU (Jan. 7). She scored 12 points in three straight contests before a 17-point performance against UCF (Feb. 12) gave her 15-straight and 19 double-digit performances on the season. Dukes posted her seond double-double of the season in s regular season finale, scoring 14 and adding 10 rebounds, to give her 24 double-digit games on the season and made it back-to-back double-doubles with 18 points and 10 boards against Tulsa.
