SUDS Team Representative Responsibilities 1. Demonstrate, encourage and promote the Spirit of the Game at all times. 2. Attend the team representative meeting or send another designate if unable to attend 3. Know all the current 11th Edition UPA Rules, and SUDS Specific League rules. 4. Bring a copy of the 11 th Edition UPA rules and SUDS Specific League rules to each game. 5. Promote knowledge of and adherence to the rules among your players. 6. Make sure ALL the information and materials given to you by the League Coordinator and/or SUDS staff are passed on to all your players 7. Have sufficient players at the field ready to play at the official start time for each game. 8. Ensure that the field is set up for all games. 9. Report the score and spirit rating on the website no later than 24 hours after your game start time. 10. Notify the opposing team and the VP leagues at least 48 hours in advance if you are unable to field a team for a scheduled game. ** Failure to do this will result in the loss of your default fee ** 11. Minimize, contain and immediately address incidents of taunting or other un spirited behaviour on your team. 12. Submit incident reports if needed. 13. Stop play or postpone a game in order to safeguard a field against damage. If a field is too wet to play on, postpone the game. Spirit of the Game Spirit of the Game stresses sportsmanship and fair play but one of the most important parts of Spirit that is often forgotten, is each player being responsible for knowing the rules. Not only will this shorten lengthy arguments, but also it will allow for a more educated fun game. Entering a Spirit Score and Incident Reporting Once your game is completed, please enter the score, and spirit score of your opponent s team on the website. Also, be sure to fill out an Incident Report with any incidents or concerns that may have arose at your game. Examples of incidents that should be reported include, but are not limited to: serious injuries, grossly inappropriate behaviour, major conflict with other user groups. 4

Default Fees 1. All teams are required to submit a default cheque to be able to play in the SUDS league. a) Default cheque amounts will be set at the initial level of $175. Cheques should be made out to Saskatoon Ultimate Disc Sport Society; or merely SUDS. 2. Default cheques will be cashed/deposited in the following cases: a) The team does not send a minimum of 2 people to the team representative meeting & skills/rules clinic; b) The team does not show up to a scheduled game & did not notify the opposing captain and the VP leagues at least 48 hours in advance of the official scheduled game time. c) The team does not have enough players within the first 20 minutes of the scheduled game start time (minimum of five players needed must have at least 2 of each gender). 3. A team that defaults twice in a row, or three times in a season, may be eliminated from further play in the current season or subsequent season(s) pending a review from the Board of Directors. 4. Winners of defaulted games receive a score of 15 0 and a spirit score of 20. The team that defaulted will be given a game score of 0 15 and a spirit score of A forfeit will be awarded in the event that the Captain notifies the OPPOSING CAPTAIN and the VP LEAGUES 48 hours before scheduled game time. A forfeit will result in a 15 0 loss; however, your default fee will not be cashed. 6. At the conclusion of the season, all un cashed default cheques will be destroyed or returned to the team captain if requested. Note: default fees are not intended to raise costs to players or revenues for SUDS, but rather be a deterrent to the behaviours listed above. Attendance where required, and proper player/team conduct, will avoid the need to cash default cheques. League Enforced Game Cancellations If SUDS Executive deems field or weather conditions unsuitable to play for an evening, the info will be posted on the website NO LATER than 4 pm. Even if weather conditions improve after 4 pm, the decision will stand and games will remain cancelled. Otherwise, teams must attend their games. The game status will be listed on the homepage including whether games are still on or not & when it was last updated. If you are unable to check the website on your game nights for the field conditions, please contact the SUDS Summer Coordinator at sc@saskatoonultimate.org for alternate arrangements. In the case of game cancellations due to weather, we will do our best to make up games if the schedule allows. Field Conditions In the event that games are to be played as scheduled, but once arriving at the field, you determine it is too wet to play on, please use common sense and do not play on it. If we respect the fields we are given to play on, we will continue to be able to use them for years to come. If you notice any other issues with the fields (i.e. grass needs cutting, holes in field, etc.), please notify the VP Leagues at leagues@saskatoonultimate.org. If we do not know about the issues, we cannot fix the issues. 5

Field Setup It is the responsibility of the home team to set up the field prior to the official start time of the game. It is the responsibility of the visiting team to inspect the set up and approve it. It is the responsibility of all players to make both teams aware of any hazards they observe and mark them with discs. *Home teams will be designated in your league night schedule. In order to set up an official ultimate field, 14 cones are required, but for SUDS league, teams will receive 10 cones (4 tall and 6 short). Two short cones should be placed on the back corners of each end zone (4 total). Two tall cones should be placed on the front corners of each end zone (4 total). 2 short cones should be placed at the midpoint of each sideline (2 total). You can also place a cone for each brick mark if you have extra cones. You can pace out a field with each pace being roughly one yard. In some cases you may have to make the end zones smaller as some of the fields we use may be shorter or narrower than a standard field. If there are problems with fields (double bookings, damage, etc.), please contact Wendy: Metric to Yard Conversion: 64 m = 70 yards 37 m = 40 yards 32 m = 35 yards 23 m = 25 yards 18 m = 20 yards SUDS Specific Rules While the 11th Edition Rules as provided by USA Ultimate, cover the vast majority of situations, there are certain areas where the Saskatoon Ultimate Disc Sport Society feels that these rules must be modified or added to for our league. These rule additions and modifications are detailed here: Start Time Games must be started on time and end prior to the next scheduled game (when applicable). The minimum number of players required to start a game is 5, with a minimum of 2 women and 2 men. Failure to have at least the minimum number of required players at the start time of the game will result in the attending team scoring points. For every two minutes a team is late, there is a 1 point penalty to the offending team. For a team to be eligible to receive penalty points, they must have set up the field even if they are not the home team and have seven players, of the correct ratio, at the field ready to play (not necessarily on the field). Also the team representative of the late team must be informed that the on time team is counting points (or if no one is there at the official start time, inform the first person that shows up). Points may be taken from this point on. The game may begin once the offending team has their minimum 5 players. (ie. If there were 5 players after 8 minutes, the game would begin with a score of 4 0 for the on time team). After 20 minutes, a default is recorded (see default fees section above). Please notify the VP Leagues. 6

Length of Game Games are played to whichever of the following 2 conditions happens first: 1. Games are played until one team's number of goals scored first reaches or exceeds 15, with a margin of at least two goals and with a final point cap at 17 (allows for a final score of 17 16). 2. Hard Cap at 1 hour 20 min (next point wins if the game is tied). Hard Cap In the interest of player safety, games will have a hard time cap to ensure they end before darkness. Team representatives should agree on a timekeeper and a timepiece to be used to determine the cap at the beginning of the game or as soon as it is apparent the game may need to be capped. Team Representatives must agree upon a set time or score. The timekeeper must issue a warning to captains five minutes before the time cap. When the hard time cap is reached, the point in progress may be played to its conclusion, after which the game terminates (a point ends when the disc is caught for a score, so if you are heading to the line or are already at the line when hard cap is called, you have already started a new point and may finish it.), regardless of the score. Exception: if it is a playoff game and is tied after the end of this point, one more point may be played to determine the winner. Players are encouraged to start games promptly to avoid the need to cap games. Time outs Teams will be allowed two 70 second time outs per half (4 total) and one timeout per team in the case of a Universe Point (regardless of how many time outs they have left). Halftime begins when one team s score first reaches or exceeds half of the game total. Halftime in a SUDS summer league game occurs when the first team reaches 8 points. Partially Completed Games A partially completed game occurs when external factors other than time cap (e.g. lightning, damage being caused to the field due to play, etc.) halts a game before one team has reached a winning score. The game score will stand as final and the game is considered complete if either of the following conditions is met at the time at which play is halted: 1. one team has reached at least ten points; 2. one team has reached at least eight points, and is leading by at least two points. If neither of these conditions is met, captains can agree to continue the game from the current score at a later time or to accept whatever score was reached as final. If agreement between the captains cannot be reached and neither game completion condition was met, no results should be entered for this game and the game is cancelled. Co ed Gender Ratio SUDS co ed leagues play with a 4:3 gender ratio. All co ed teams must have no more than 4 players of 1 gender on the field at a time. Offense (the team receiving the pull) will decide the gender ratio, and defense must match it. However, if the team on defense cannot match the ratio due to a shortage of players, they will not be required to match the offense ratio and instead play short player(s). Teams must field their lines according to this ratio, unless both captains agree otherwise as per the Captain s Clause. 7

Fixed League Rules The Captain's Clause states that any rule modifications may be implemented at game time as long as the captains of both teams agree to them. The following rules cannot be changed by the Captain's Clause: 1. No game shall be started if lightning is visible at any distance. If more than one person observes lightning, the current scoring attempt is discontinued immediately and cannot resume until lightning is no longer anywhere in sight 2. If there is standing water on the fields, do not use them. 3. If playing on the field is causing any damage due to wetness, the games must be stopped. 4. No metal cleats allowed during SUDS sanctioned events. 5. No physical or verbal abuse during SUDS sanctioned events. 6. Youths less than 13 years of age are not permitted on the playing field during SUDS sanctioned events. Juniors are encouraged to participate in the junior league. 7. Littering is not allowed on any fields or parks SUDS and its members frequent. 8. Any Damage to the fields MUST be reported to league coordinators to remedy the situation and ensure SUDS maintains a good relationship with field providers. 9. Disputes not resolved within 60 seconds will result in the disc being returned to the thrower and play continues. 10. If a hard cap time is not discussed before the flip, hard cap occurs 90 minutes from the scheduled start time of your game. Note: Rules are designed to ensure the best playing experience to SUDS members. Rule infractions are to be communicated to league coordinators and will be dealt with accordingly. A minimal warning may be issued but for serious complaints SUDS reserves the right to take any action necessary to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment. SUDS Pick Up Policy Any team with fewer than 6 females and/or 8 males in attendance at a game may pick up subs to compensate if the following conditions are met: 1. It is brought to the attention of the opposing team before the scheduled start time of the game and the opposing captain permits the player(s) to play. 2. All pick up players must hold a valid SUDS Membership. 3. Any team that does not abide by the pick up policy rules will result in a 15 0 loss for that game and a spirit score of 0. SUDS Membership & Waiver Forms As a Saskatoon Ultimate Disc Sport Society (SUDS) member, you are eligible to play in any league offered by SUDS. 10 2015 TEAM HANDBOOK Disc Odyssey The Toon Town Wager Disc Odyssey is SUDS annual ultimate tournament. This year, the dates are July 25 & 26. Touring teams from the western regions travel to Saskatoon for this tournament because the weather is usually always great, the fields are mint and the tournament is well organized. Not to mention, there is a great social event in the evening. The format for Disc Odyssey is co ed with both competitive and recreational divisions. There is always a prize for the most spirited team at the end of the tournament. Registration for Disc Odyssey opens soon, so start building your dream team roster! For more information, please contact suds@saskatoonultimate.org SUDS Mentorship Program Due to the positive feedback we received about SUDS Mentorship Program in the past, we are happy to bring the program back. The mentorship program is designed to provide knowledge and guidance to members of the SUDS community. Experienced players are matched up to new teams that are looking for help. The "mentor" can either help from the sideline or play on the team and provide the team with tactics, help them with rules and help them to enjoy the sport to its fullest. Please contact suds@saskatoonultimate.org if your team is interested in having a mentor or if you are interested in being a mentor. Skills & Rules Clinics SUDS will be organizing a number of skills & rules clinics throughout the summer to help players develop their throwing and cutting skills and to become better versed in the rules. Keep checking the website for future clinic dates. Art Hawkins Great Canadian Ultimate Game Ultimate Canada is pleased to once again organize the Art Hawkins Great Canadian Ultimate Game. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the game it is a national ultimate game developed to raise awareness about the sport and support charities that work with youth and sport. Information on this year s game is available on the Ultimate Canada website. SUDS will once again participate in the event that will take place on June 13th so if you are interested in volunteering or playing in the game, please suds@saskatoonultimate.org. Bring Your Disc to Work Day Once again, Ultimate Canada will be organizing Bring Your Disc to Work Day in an effort to promote ultimate to the unfortunate masses that have not yet been exposed to the greatest sport on earth! BYDtWD is a low cost way for ultimate communities to raise the profile of the sport in their community and help connect people who play the sport. Information about the event is available on the Ultimate Canada website. That s our office, in case you were wondering. 10

Saskatchewan Ultimate Championships Provincials The Saskatchewan Ultimate Players Association (SUPA) is happy to bring you the Saskatchewan Ultimate Championships on July in Moose Jaw...again! This is a provincial mixed tournament open to all SUPA members. You no longer have to register your league team, as it was in the past. Merely register your team of SUPA All Stars to compete for supremacy over the whole wide province! Stay tuned to the SUPA website for more information. We will also be posting information on the SUDS website as it becomes available. Saskatoon Touring Teams Saskatoon has a number of touring teams that travel to tournaments all over Western Canada. Some teams are competitive and use these tournaments as practice for the Canadian Ultimate Championships in August, while other teams are semi competitive or recreational and are looking for the fun experience of the tournament. Currently, Saskatoon has co ed touring teams, a mixed team, a women s team, a women s masters team, and a master s team (33 years +). Be sure to check the website for information regarding our touring teams. Canadian Tournament Schedule One of the best ways to develop your ultimate skills is to play in weekend tournaments. You will normally play 5 7 games over the course of the weekend and play teams from a variety of different cities. Usually there are always teams looking to pick up players before a tournament so check the message board often if you are interested in attending. You can always register your own team if you have enough players. Check Ultimate Canada s list of upcoming summer tournaments on their website. Does Your Team Need Beer? SUDS is proud to once again have the District Brewing as one of its major partners. Not only does District provide prizes for our league and tournaments, they also brew some fantastic beer to boot! This year, we re changing the receipts collection a bit...this year, it s beer race time!!! Save your receipts when you buy District Brewing products and we will tally them up. The team with the most receipts at the end of the summer wins a pizza and beer party on District! Don t worry though, if you don t win, you can pay $10 and get in on all the action too. The party will be held at Sports on Tap on August 29th. Be sure to write your team name on all receipts handed in so we know which team they count towards. Pizza and beer?! A winning combination! The deadline to hand in your receipts is August 20,
