Taylor had perhaps his most efficient game of his remarkable collegiate career in Monday s win over Tennessee State. The 6-7, 250-pound frontcourt bruiser sank 10 of his 12 shot attempts - including a perfect 2-for-2 performance from beyond the three-point arc. He added three free throws to wind up with 25 points - the 17th career 20-plus point performance. Earlier this season against Northern Kentucky, Taylor became the 17th member of the UT Martin 1,000 Career Point Club. He now ranks 10th in program history with 1,129 points and is just one point away from passing Benzor Simmons ( ) on the all-time scoring list. SETTING THE STAGE The University of Tennessee at Martin men s basketball team returns to the road for the fourth time in the early Ohio Valley Conference season when it travels to Morehead State for a matchup against the Eagles in Ellis T. Johnson Arena. The Skyhawks are coming off their first OVC victory of the season - a triumph over Tennessee State on Monday. In that game, UT Martin cracked 100 points for the first time since 2011 and also set season-highs in field goal percentage (.609), field goals made (39) and assists (25, against just eight turnovers). Six Skyhawks reached double-figures in the scoring column, led by Myles Taylor s 25 points and Terence Smith s 20 points. Morehead State is coming off an home victory over Southeast Missouri on Thursday night. The Eagles shook off a slow start - trailing 11-0 to begin the game - by connecting on 54.2 percent of their field goal attempts (23- for-24) and 90.5 percent of their attempts from the charity stripe (19-for-21) in the game s final 20 minutes. Brent Arrington paced Morehead State with 20 points while Drew Kelly (16) and Angelo Warner (14) also scored in double-digits. 5 SIX IN DOUBLE-IGURES SCORING OR THE SECOND TIME THIS SEASON In the victory over Tennessee State on Jan. 13, the Skyhawks showed incredible balance offensively, as six players cracked double-figures in the scoring column. Myles Taylor (25 points), Terence Smith (20), Dee Oldham (15), Mike Liabo (13), Marshun Newell (11) and Justin Childs (10) all accomplished the feat for the Skyhawks. UT Martin also saw six players score in double-figures in its road win at Samford on Dec. 4. Liabo (16 points), Smith (13), Taylor (13), Bobby Jones (11), Newell (10) and Oldham (10) all helped a Skyhawk offense that set a season-high in three-point field goal percentage (.636). OENSIVE EXPLOSION IN IRST OVC WIN O THE SEASON A dynamic offense in the win over Tennessee State helped UT Martin reach triple-digits on the scoreboard for the first time since Jan. 13, 2011 at Tennessee Tech. In addition to points, the Skyhawk offense also set season-highs in field goal percentage (60.9 percent), field goals made (39) and assists (25, against just eight turnovers). MYLES TAYLOR BACK ATER ACL INJURY Junior forward Myles Taylor went off for a career-best outing on Dec. 21 against Southeastern Louisiana. He tallied a careerbest 34 points on 11-for-22 shooting and a 12-for-14 performance from the free throw line while also collecting 11 rebounds. Against Jackson State on Nov. 24, Taylor flirted with a triple-double, compiling 17 points, nine rebounds and seven blocked shots in 28 minutes. The seven blocks were the most by any UT Martin player since at least 2002 and at the time were the most by an OVC player since current Denver Nuggets star Kenneth aried accomplished the feat for Morehead State against Austin Peay on March 4, A Preseason All-OVC selection despite the fact he tore his ACL in the regular season finale, Taylor became the program s 17th member of the 1,000 point club against Northern Kentucky and currently ranks 10th with 1,129 points. Taylor has recorded 13 career doubledoubles, which is exactly half of the total amount of double-doubles in the Jason James Era (26 since 2009). He has scored in double-figures in 62 of his 74 career games at UT Martin, including 17 games of at least 20 points. QUICK HITS WINNING THE TURNOVER BATTLE Despite its 6-14 record, UT Martin has won the turnover battle by a +62 margin this season. The Skyhawks have forced more turnovers than they have committed in 15 games and have forced 15 or more turnovers in 10 games this season. LIABO MOVING UP SCORING RANKS Senior swingman Mike Liabo made his long awaited season debut on Nov. 25 against Lipscomb after serving a sevengame suspension for violation of team rules. He did not disappoint, as he equaled his career-high scoring output of 27 points while canning a career-best seven 3-pointers in only 22 minutes of play. The seven treys were the most a Skyhawk had sank since former All-American Lester Hudson drained eight attempts from beyond the three-point arc against Tennessee Tech on March 3, Liabo now has 1,387 career points and needs 239 points to pass DeWayne Powell for the third spot. The 6-6 southpaw has been one of the most prolific scorers in the Ohio Valley Conference during his UT Martin career. Liabo has cracked doublefigures in the scoring column in 77 of his 105 career games, eclipsing the 20-point mark on 15 different occasions. Liabo ranks fourth in program history with 223 three-point field goals made and ranks fifth in program history with 481 field goals made. DRAINING A DOZEN TRIECTAS UT Martin knocked down 12 threepointers at Colorado on Nov. 10, which was the first time the Skyhawks had hit 12 treys in a game since Dec. 22, 2009 at lorida State. A little over a month later, the Skyhawks accomplished the same feat, sinking 12 trifectas at Presbyterian. SMITH COMES UP CLUTCH AT PRESBY Terence Smith scored UT Martin s final five points at Presbyterian, helping the Skyhawks overcome a 10-point deficit with 6:47 remaining. With the score knotted at 68-all, Smith sank a go-ahead straightaway threepointer with 21 seconds left. After the Blue Hose made a pair of free throws to slice UT Martin s advantage to one point, Smith was fouled with six seconds remaining and calmly knocked down both attempts from the charity stripe. After a Skyhawk defensive stand on the other end, UT Martin emerged victorious by a score for its third straight win and fourth in the last five games. LIABO S SHOOTING CLINIC AT PRESBY In a span of 4:31 in the first half at Presbyterian, Mike Liabo scored 15 straight points for UT Martin courtesy of five treys. BALANCED SCORING IN BUNCHES The Presbyterian game marked the first time in five years under head coach Jason James that the Skyhawks had three players with at least 18 points. The trio of Mike Liabo (20 points), Terence Smith (19) and Marshun Newell (18) became part of the history-making event. LATE RUN LEADS TO WIN OVER NKU The Skyhawks trailed by four points with 5:32 to go against Northern Kentucky on Dec. 7 before unreeling a gamechanging 10-0 run. UT Martin would eventually lead by as many as 15 points before settling for a victory. UTM VISITS SU, ALUM HAMILTON The Skyhawks traveled to lorida State on Nov. 17, visiting Tallahassee for the second time in the last five years. Seminoles head coach Leonard Hamilton, is a UT Martin alum ( ) who helped the team to a Volunteer State Athletic Conference championship and averaged 11.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 49 career games. Most importantly though, Hamilton paved the way for several future Skyhawks, as he was the first African-American to compete in any sport at UT Martin. He was inducted into the inaugural 1983 UT Martin Athletics Hall of ame class. SKYHAWKS RACKING UP THE MILEAGE IN UT Martin will travel approximately 13,000 miles to complete its 31 games this season. The Skyhawks will play in 11 states (Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, lorida, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wyoming), with the longest trip slated for the game at UNLV on Nov. 30 (3,440 miles round trip). NEWELL S AMILY BACKGROUND LEADS TO UT MARTIN Marshun Newell is the cousin of former Skyhawk All-American and NBA player Lester Hudson, who earned a pair of OVC Male Athlete of the Year awards from In fact, Newell and Hudson grew up in the same house in Memphis and attended the same community college (Southwest Tennessee) before attending UT Martin.

7 HEAD COACH JASON JAMES Jason James has been at the helm of The University of Tennessee at Martin men s basketball program since After spending seven seasons as an assistant coach at The University of Tennessee at Martin, including the role of associate head coach during the Ohio Valley Conference championship season, James was named the program s eighth head coach on June 5, James, a native of St. Louis, Mo., is one of the nation s youngest NCAA Division-I men s basketball head coaches, but his experience in the UT Martin program has prepared James for the challenge. This has always been my goal, ever since I was 10, the 35-year-old James said. My dad introduced me to basketball and he always coached me and my brothers. He had such a joy in coaching that he made me want to coach and influence young men just like he did. The Skyhawks made their second appearance in the OVC Tournament in four seasons under James in , compiling a 9-21 overall record with a 5-11 OVC mark. UT Martin fell by a narrow margin of seven points to Morehead State in the OVC Tournament, its fourth singledigit loss of the season. Once a fully healthy roster shaped into form in , UT Martin won five of eight games down the stretch to punch its ticket into the OVC Tournament. The Skyhawks downed OVC heavyweights Eastern Kentucky (25-10 record) at home and won on the road at OVC West champion Murray State (21-10) for the first time in program history. In , UT Martin faced a tough schedule that included 10 games against eight eventual teams who made the postseason, including NCAA Tournament teams Louisville (inal our), Ohio (Sweet 16), Murray State (round of 32) and Lamar (round of 68). The Skyhawks posted a 4-27 overall record but eight losses were by single-digits, including a loss to No. 9 Murray State on eb. 4. During the campaign, James coached OVC reshman of the Year Myles Taylor. Taylor also earned OVC All- Newcomer accolades after taking home the league s reshman of the Week award five times during the season. The Skyhawks soared to several new heights as a program in , tripling their win output from the previous season and winning their first OVC tournament game in Nashville in program history. UT Martin s success was atrributed to a steady blend of veterans and one of the most accomplished recruiting classes in program history. Senior Benzor Simmons led the team in scoring and became the program s 15th member of the 1,000 Point Club on Jan. 24, 2011 at SIU Edwardsville. The recruiting class all blossomed as well, as three Skyhawk freshmen combined to take home eight adidas OVC reshman of the Week awards. That marked only the third time that one university has earned that many mentions in a single season since the league started giving out the award in the season. After five losses by single-digits in five of their first 16 games in including a narrow six-point loss at Tennessee on Dec. 29 the Skyhawks began clicking around midseason of the OVC schedule, reeling off a four-game win streak from Jan. 15 through Jan. 24. A month later, the Skyhawks clinched a spot in the OVC tournament with a dominating victory on the road against Eastern Illinois. In its OVC tournament opener, UT Martin earned a hard-fought victory over Tennessee State before falling to Tennessee Tech the eventual league runner-up Despite a 4-25 record, James posted several positives during his debut season as bench leader at UT Martin in against arguably one of the toughest schedules in the history of the program. In his ratings for the first week of December, noted college basketball journalist Ken Pomeroy ranked the Skyhawks as having the fourth-toughest nonconference strength of schedule in NCAA Division-I. The Skyhawks wound up playing up nine games against six teams that made the postseason in Despite the quality of opponents, seven of the team s losses were by 10 points or less as the Skyhawks battled injuries and was forced to play players out of position. A bit of history occured in late December of 2009, as the Skyhawks earned back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference Player of

8 the Week accolades for just the second time in school history. Off the court, James players and staff go the extra mile to benefit the local community. The basketball team regularly organizes a team for the West Weakley County Relay for Life every June, raising thousands of dollars. The Skyhawks also fought the ongoing battle with cancer through the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers event at home against Murray State in 2010 in a nationally-televised game on ESPN-U. In that collaboration, fans made donations for each three-pointer the team made in the month of January. Under James, the Skyhawks have also been involved in the Character Counts program in the Weakley County schools, the D.A.R.E program, and the Boys and Girls clubs in Union City. Over his tenure at UT Martin as an assistant coach, James was directly responsible in the recent resurgance of the Skyhawk program over the last several seasons. Since his first season on the Skyhawk bench in 2002, James has coached seven of UT Martin s 15 all-time 1,000 point scorers. He also recruited two of UT Martin s all-time great Division-I players in Jared Newson and Lester Hudson. Newson ranks fourth in all-time program history in points scored after playing just three seasons with the Skyhawks. Newson ranks in the top-10 in seven different all-time career UT Martin categories, including points (1,347, fourth), field goals made (452, fifth), field goals attempted (1,016, fifth), free throws made (378, second), free throws attempted (526, first), rebounds (535, seventh), blocks (43, 10th) and steals (128, seventh). After he exhausted his eligibility at UT Martin, Newson attended training camp with the Dallas Mavericks before becoming an overseas fan favorite for his acrobatic slam-dunks in Germany. In Hudson, James found a diamond in the rough that became one of the best all-around players in the NCAA and eventually would be chosen by the Boston Celtics in the 2009 NBA Draft. In Hudson s collegiate debut, he torched eventual national runner-up Memphis for 35 points, but the legend of Hudson was just getting started. Just eight days later, Hudson grabbed national headlines when he became the first-ever NCAA Division-I men s basketball player to record a quadrupledouble (25 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, 10 steals) vs. Central Baptist on Nov. 13, Later that season, Hudson became the first-ever UT Martin player to be named an All-American since the program joined the Division-I ranks in That season, James helped guide the Skyhawks to a school-record for OVC wins in one season (11), as UT Martin won the OVC regular season championship for the first time ever. The Skyhawks also hosted and won a first-round OVC Tournament game for the first time in UT Martin history, before falling to eventual-tournament champion Austin Peay by a single point (78-77).
