GAME DAY The Colgate Raiders (0-0 overall, 0-0 Patriot League) open their 115th season of intercollegiate play this Saturday with a non-conference game against Central Connecticut (0-0, 0-0 NEC) at Andy Kerr Stadium. Kickoff is 1 p.m. Colgate is seeking its 10th straight winning season under head coach Dick Biddle. Last year, the Raiders finished 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the Patriot League. This is the first meeting between Colgate and Central Connecticut, and Colgate's first-ever game against a NEC team. Central Connecticut was picked to finish second in the Northeast Conference. Last year, the Blue Devils were 8-2 overall and 6-1 in league play while earning a share of the NEC title. The eight victories was the most for CCSU since 1973, when the Blue Devils finished 9-1. Junior tailback Cory Harge, the reigning NEC Offensive Player of the Year, is again the Blue Devils go-to-player. He has posted back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons. TIME WARNER SPORTS Time Warner Sports Channel 26 in Central New York will televise all six of Colgate's home games this season. TICKETS Tickets for the Colgate-Central Connecticut game are available at the Raider Ticket Office ( ). They are priced at $12 for reserved seats, $8.00 for general admission, and $5.00 for children in the general admission section. OPENERS UNDER BIDDLE The Colgate Raiders are 2-7 in season openers under head coach Dick Biddle. In the two seasons that the Raiders won their season opener during Biddle's tenure, they finished 10-2 in 1999 and 15-1 in PICKED THIRD IN THE PATRIOT LEAGUE Colgate was picked to finish third in the Patriot League this season in a vote of the league coaches and sports information directors. BY THE NUMBERS Colgate has won 17 straight at Andy Kerr Stadium. Colgate has won 28 of its last 33 games. Colgate has won 14 of its last 19 non-conference games. Colgate has won 12 of the last 14 games decided by nine points or less. Colgate head coach Dick Biddle needs two victories to move into sole possession of second place in career wins. He currently has 76 victories, one behind Fred Dunlap, who had 77 wins between All-time leader is Andy Kerr with 95 ( ). He has an overall record of for a.710 winning percentage. He is the fifth winningest active Division I-AA coach. In 2003, he was named the American Football Coaches Association Division I-AA National Coach of the Year, and for the second time in his career Patriot League Coach of the Year. His winning percentage is the highest of any coach who has coached eight or more seasons in the Patriot League. He is the third coach in school history to win 70 or more games in a career joining Andy Kerr (95) and Fred Dunlap (77). Biddle is the first Colgate coach to post nine straight winning seasons and the first Colgate coach to record eight straight seasons with seven or more victories. COLGATE CAPTAINS Colgate head coach Dick Biddle announced at the conclusion of fall camp that senior linebacker Jared Nepa (Carbondale, PA) and junior quarterback Mike Saraceno (Sunrise, FL) have been named co-captains of the 2005 squad. Long was the Raiders second-leading receiver last season while earning first team all-patriot League honors. He had 55 receptions for 737 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns. He transferred to Colgate from the University of Nebraska in the fall During Colgate s 2003 run to the NCAA Division I-AA title game, Long played in all 16 games while making 14 catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns. He had a game-winning catch with 5.6 seconds left in the opener against Georgetown, and his other touchdown came in the NCAA Division I-AA playoff win over Florida Atlantic. MAKING THEIR FIRST START Colgate has five players making their first collegiate starts. On offense: junior quarterback Mike Saraceno (Sunrise, FL) and junior wide receiver Kenny Parker (Stratford, NJ). On defense: senior defensive end Tom Cassano (Cherry Hill, NJ), junior linebacker David Wesley (Dupont, PA) and sophomore cornerback Cody Williams (Blasdell, NY).
