GAME DAY The Colgate Raiders (0-1 overall, 0-0 Patriot League) will face 15thranked (1-0, 1-0 A-10) this Saturday in a non-conference game at Andy Kerr Stadium. Kickoff is 12 noon. The Raiders had their 17-game home winning streak stopped last Saturday in the season opener against Central Connecticut, , meanwhile, opened its season with a 19-6 road win over Richmond. The Colgate- game is being televised live by Time Warner Sports (Syracuse) and CN8. THE SERIES This is the fifth meeting between Colgate and with the Raiders leading the series, 3-1. Colgate won the first three games in the series, before UMass won last year's game in Amherst, The Minutemen's last appearance at Andy Kerr Stadium came in a 2003 NCAA Division I-AA first round playoff game - won by Colgate TIME WARNER SPORTS Time Warner Sports Channel 26 in Central New York is televising all six of Colgate's home games this season. TOP 25 TEAMS Colgate is 5-3 in its last eight games against teams ranked in the Top 25 of Division I-AA. In 2003, they defeated #24, #19, #5, #10 Western Illinois, and #13 Florida Atlantic, before losing to #3 Delaware in the NCAA Division I-AA championship game. Colgate lost to #14 in last year s season opener and later to #12. He has caught 75 passes for 993 yards and 11 touchdowns. Colgate senior running back Ray LaMonica (Peabody, Mass.) needs 29 rushing yards to move into 23rd place in career rushing yardage. He has 1,041. Colgate head coach Dick Biddle needs two victories to move into sole possession of second place in career wins. He currently has 76 victories, one behind Fred Dunlap, who had 77 wins between All-time leader is Andy Kerr with 95 ( ). PICKED THIRD IN THE PATRIOT LEAGUE Colgate was picked to finish third in the Patriot League this season in a vote of the league coaches and sports information directors. RANKING OF TOTAL WINS IN I-AA Over the last four seasons, Colgate is tied for third among all Division I- AA teams in victories with 38. Over the last three years, the Raiders are first with 31, and over the last two years, they are second with 22. UNDER BIDDLE IN PATRIOT LEAGUE PLAY During Biddle s tenure, the Raiders have the best record in Patriot League play with a mark. is second at 44-12, and third COLGATE HEAD COACH Colgate head coach Dick Biddle is in his 10th season with the Raiders. He has an overall record of for a.703 winning percentage. He is the fifth winningest active Division I-AA coach. In 2003, he was named the American Football Coaches Association Division I-AA National Coach of the Year, and for the second time in his career Patriot League Coach of the Year. His winning percentage is the highest of any coach who has coached eight or more seasons in the Patriot League. He is the third coach in school history to win 70 or more games in a career joining Andy Kerr (95) and Fred Dunlap (77). Biddle is the first Colgate coach to post nine straight winning seasons and the first Colgate coach to record eight straight seasons with seven or more victories. COLGATE CAPTAINS Senior linebacker Jared Nepa (Carbondale, PA) and junior quarterback Mike Saraceno (Sunrise, FL) are Colgate's co-captains for the 2005 season. HANSEN NAMED PATRIOT LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Freshman tailback Steve Hansen (Orlando, Fla.) was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week for his performance against Central Connecticut. He carried 11 times for 56 yards in his collegiate debut. COLGATE VS. TOTAL DEFENSE Last season, Colgate finished ninth in the nation in total defense, allowing yards per game. In 2003, the Raiders were 15th in total defense allowing yards per game. LONG GRANTED A SIXTH YEAR Colgate wide receiver DeWayne Long (West Des Moines, IA) has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Long was the Raiders second-leading receiver last season while earning first team all-patriot League honors. He had 55 receptions for 737 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns. He transferred to Colgate from the University of Nebraska in the fall During Colgate s 2003 run to the NCAA Division I-AA title game, Long played in all 16 games while making 14 catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns. He had a game-winning catch with 5.6 seconds left in the opener against Georgetown, and his other touchdown came in the NCAA Division I-AA playoff win over Florida Atlantic.
