1 Sample s Approach Practice Plan s Approach Practice Plan Date: Saturday, August 18th Practice start time: 6:45 A.M. Length of practice: 2 hours, 15 minutes Practice objectives: Emphasis on Passing and on Conversion Down situations; also Return and Coverage. Equipment: Balls, agility bags, spacing hoses, cones, helmet caps, stand-up bags, kicking tees. Time Position 6:45 to 7:00 A.M. All players Prepractice meeting and team building 7:00 to 7:15 A.M. All players Warm-Up 7:15 to 7:25 A.M. QB Quarterback Drops three and five step Review of coaches expectations of players. A 10-minute relay run in which the back runner jogs at a moderate pace to overtake the front runner, followed by 5 minutes of dynamic stretching. Break team up into groups based on speed for the game. Quarterbacks review all drops, first without throwing and then add warm up throws after each drop. Horizontal game Team effort Good running form Full range of movement Escaping Foot positioning Hit and throw versus hitch and throw
2 Time Position RB OL Stance and Start for Offense 7:25 to 7:30 A.M. All players Drink break 7:30 to 7:45 A.M. QB Curl Read RB OL Pass Protection Players break up by position and work on starts in every direction from an appropriate stance. A four-on-three the four offensive players try to get a first down based on the coach s downand-distance call. A five-on-four the offense tries to protect the quarterback for four seconds. Achieving balance Comfortable stance Head and eyes up Running shallow and intermediate Running deep Quarterback drops Throwing Catching against a twist on the edge
3 Time Position 7:45 to 8:00 A.M. QB RB Seven-on- Seven 7:45 to 8:00 A.M. OL Reach Block 8:00 to 8:05 A.M. All players Drink break A seven-on-seven the offensive players try to get a first down based on the coach s downand-distance call and the defense mixes man and zone. A one-on-one or two-on-two game focusing on reach and cutoff blocking against defensive movement, such as slants or angles, with the offense receiving 1 point for getting the right assignment and 1 point for executing the proper technique. Running shallow and intermediate Running deep Adjustments to curl route Adjustments to crossing route Quarterback drops Catching Releases Reach block Cutoff block Reach blocking against defensive movement
4 Time Position 8:05 to 8:25 A.M. All players Third-Down 8:25 to 8:45 A.M. All players Special Teams: Returns An eleven-oneleven game in which the offense focuses on both the running and the passing game. Coach varies the thirddown yardage to create different situations. (Note: Because the first tackling drills are not introduced until afternoon practice, the focus for this practice is on framing up rather than actual tackles.) Offense is awarded 1 point each time it makes a first down. An eleven-oneleven game in which the offensive players focus on catching the kickoff and the defensive players focus on kickoff coverage.
