Plitzuweit (PLITTS-zoo-white) has guided programs to 20 winning seasons in 22 years. The Coyotes finished 23-9 with an at-large bid to the Women's National Invitational Tournament in her first season and are off to an unprecedented 5-0 league start in year two. Plitzuweit brought with her a new motion offense that features player development and versatility. Experience is a key factor as South Dakota returns seven players familiar with the system, led by three starters in juniors Allison Arens and Jaycee Bradley, and sophomore Ciara Duffy. This year's Coyotes feature a bench that runs nine deep with a wellrounded offense. Nine different players have led the team in scoring for a game, six have more than 20 assists on the year and eight are shooting above 40 percent from the field. Compare this to a season ago, when returning all-summit first team pick Arens paced USD in scoring for 16 of 32 games. Defense has been a point of emphasis this season as the Coyotes also hold opponents to 59 points per game. South Dakota is 9-0 when holding opponents under 60 points this season. The last time a Coyote team held opponents to fewer points per game was in (57.6 ppg). South Dakota ranks 19th in the nation and second in the league with 203 steals this season (10.7 per game). The defensive effort is led by sophomore guard Madison McKeever and senior guard Jasmine Trimboli with nearly half of the team's steals combined. The duo rank second and fourth in the Summit, respectively. McKeever has 46 on the season and is five away from 100 career steals. Trimboli has tallied 38 and tops the Summit League with 3.4 in conference-only action. South Dakota has forced 22 or more turnovers in six of its last eight. The Coyotes became the first team to complete a second-half comeback against on Wednesday night, erasing a 5-point halftime deficit to winning by five USD was also just the second team this season to shoot above 50 percent against the Golden Eagles. In spite of only making two baskets in the first quarter, the Coyotes shot lights out at 77 percent in the second half to complete the comeback. In the midst of an eight-game winning streak, South Dakota surpassed 80 points in four of those contests. The Coyotes are shooting 52 percent in Summit play. Arens surpassed alumna Kelly Stewart on USD's career charts on Wednesday. She ranks 34th with 828 points in a Coyote uniform. Arens leads the team in scoring for the second-straight year with 12.1 points per game, adding 4.1 boards and 2.5 assists. Duffy earned back-to-back Summit League Player of the Week honors with an impressive start to league play. Since returning to the starting lineup against Tulsa, she has reach double figures for eight of nine games. She's averaged nearly 15 points and five boards in that span with three assists and two steals per game. The sophomore is also shooting a league-best 63 percent in conference play. Duffy won the fan vote for a spot on the NCAA's Starting Five last week. Sharp shooter Jaycee Bradley, named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale award preseason watch list, ranks 32nd nationally for 3-point percentage (43.8). Bradley sank five 3-pointers with an 8-of-9 performance at North Dakota State earlier this month. Trimboli scored 15 points Wednesday for her sixth double-figure game this season, but she continues to help the team in a variety of ways outside of scoring. She's the leading rebounder with 94 this season, second in steals and fifth in assists. South Dakota has demonstrated its ability to score from inside and out. Through the first five games of league play, the Coyotes have averaged just shy of 10 3-pointers a game and outscored opponents in the paint. USD's 46.6 percent from the floor tops the league and ranks 21st nationally. South Dakota received the NCAA Free Throw Shooting Percentage Award last season for sinking 81.4 percent from the stripe, tops in Division I. The Coyotes are fourth this year at 79.6 percent (230-of-289). Arens leads the charge from the stripe. She boasts three USD single-game records including free-throws made (18), attempted (20) and percentage (12-12). She also holds USD's career record for free throw percentage at 86.4 ( ). This season, Arens ranks ninth nationally for FT% (90.2). 3

9 Head Coach Dawn Plitzuweit Dawn Plitzuweit was named the 10th head coach in women s basketball program history on April 22, Plitzuweit (PLITTS-zoo-white) enters her second season at South Dakota in In her first season at USD, Plitzuweit guided the Coyotes to a 23-9 record with an at-large bid to the Women s National Invitation Tournament. Plitzuweit has compiled a record for a winning percentage of.674 in 10 years as a head coach. She has guided programs to 20 winning seasons in 22 years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division I and Division II levels including 10 NCAA tournament appearances. As a head coach, Plitzuweit led her teams to nine postseason appearances highlighted by a 2006 NCAA Division II Championship at Grand Valley State. Plitzuweit began her coaching career at her alma mater, Michigan Tech, under her collegiate coach, Kevin Borseth, in The pair teamed up for 11 seasons with stops at Michigan Tech, Green Bay and Michigan. A 1995 graduate of Michigan Tech, Plitzuweit earned back-to-back Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year awards, four all-conference honors and three alldefensive team nods. She led the Huskies to a record and four trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament. She was a Division II Bulletin second-team All-America selection and a two-time Kodak All-America honorable mention pick (1994, 1995). She earned WBCA All-Academic accolades in 1994 and 1995 and was named Michigan s NCAA Woman of the Year in A native of West Bend, Wis., Plitzuweit and her husband, Jay, have a son, A.J., and a daughter, Lexi.
