It is the first time that the Bobcats have opened their conference schedule with two straight road games since Texas State opened its 2016 Sun Belt schedule at Georgia State last Saturday. Texas State enters the ULM game with a 1-2 overall record in road games this season and will be looking to win their first Sun Belt road game since winning at Georgia State on Nov. 29, The Bobcats won their first SBC road game earlier that season at ULM on Oct. 25, Texas State opened last Saturday s game at Georgia State with a touchdown drive, marking the first time this season that the Bobcats have scored on their opening drive in a game. Tyler Jones threw for 300 yards at Georgia State to mark the second straight game he has passed for 300 yards in back to back games. The last time he accomplished the feat was in 2014 when he threw for 302 yards at Georgia State and 300 yards at South Alabama. This season, he set a school record with 475 yards passing against Incarnate Word before throwing for 300 yards and one touchdown at Georgia State. Thurman Morbley led Texas State with six catches for 57 yards at Georgia State. It was the second straight game in which he has recorded a career-high of six receptions. He also caught six passes for 133 yards and his first career TD against Incarnate Word. He enters the ULM contest with 17 receptions for 243 yards and a touchdown this season. Elijah King led the Bobcats in receiving yards for the fourth time this season when he caught five passes for 85 yards at Georgia State. King began his first season at Texas State with seven catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns at Ohio. Eric Luna became the first Bobcat to catch a touchdown pass in back-to-back games this season when he caught four passes for 33 yards and a touchdown against Georgia State. Luna also had three receptions for 35 yards and a TD against Incarnate Word. The Bobcats did not allow Georgia State to score in the first quarter. This was the first time they have held an opponent scoreless in the opening quarter this season. Texas State joined Georgia Southern as the only two Sun Belt Conference teams to recover three fumbles in a game this season when the Bobcats recovered three fumbles at Georgia State. It was the first time that TXST recovered three fumbles in a game since they accomplished the feat at Georgia Southern last season. Bryan London recorded nine tackles at Georgia State after leading the Bobcats in tackles during the first four games this season. He opened the season with a career-best 12 tackles at Ohio before recording 10 tackles at Arkansas, 11 stops against Houston and eight tackles against Incarnate Word. Javante O Roy had a game-high 15 tackles to set a new career-high at Georgia State. His previous career-best was 11 tackles at Ohio earlier this season. O Roy also forced a fumble against Georgia State and that is his first forced fumble of the season and second of his career. The first time came at New Mexico State on Nov. 7, Gabe Lloyd joined Teron Fitzgerald as the only two players in the Sun Belt Conference this season to recover two fumbles in a single game. They are two of four Sun Belt players who have recovered two fumbles this season. Fitzgerald recovered two fumbles at Ohio and forced a fumble, the first of his career, at Georgia State. Hal Vinson recorded his first career sack and forced a fumble at Georgia State. He enters the ULM game with seven tackles this season after collecting one solo stop at Georgia State. Stephan Johnson recovered his first career fumble at Georgia Southern and he ranks seventh on the team with 18 tackles. Texas State also is tied with Georgia Southern for the last recovered 3 fumbles in a game against Georgia Southern on Oct. 29, Lumi Kaba averaged 44.8 yards on six punts, including a game-best punt of 58 yards at Georgia State. 4 MEDIA INFORMATION WEEKLY INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES WEEKLY PRESS LUNCHEON Head Coach Everett Withers and selected players meet with the media at Texas State s weekly media luncheon to preview upcoming games each Tuesday in the J. Garland Warren Room on the second level of Bobcat Stadium s End Zone Complex. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. and is followed by interviews with Coach Withers beginning at noon. Requests for players and coaches should be directed to Rick Poulter in the Sports Information Office via (rpoulter@txstate.edu) on Sunday afternoon. ADDITIONAL INTERVIEWS In addition to Tuesday s media luncheon, Texas State offensive coordinator Brett Elliott and defensive coordinator Randall McCray are available for interviews after practice on Wednesdays. PRACTICE COVERAGE Most practices on Tuesday and Wednesday during game weeks are open to the media. Check with the Sports Information Office for status of media attendance at Texas State football practices. PHOTOGRAPHERS/VIDEOGRAPHERS Cameras are permitted only during interview sessions and during the first 30 minutes of each practice in designated areas with prior approval by the SID and coaching staff. HOME GAME COVERAGE INFORMATION MEDIA CREDENTIALS Working media and photographer credentials for Texas State s home games are distributed through the Sports Information Office. Requests should be made by sports editors or sports directors of accredited media outlets on company letterhead. Requests should be made as early as possible and should be limited to working media only. Send credential requests to Rick Poulter, Assistant AD/ Sports Information via at rpoulter@txstate.edu. Media parking at Bobcat Stadium is available on a limited basis on the West and East sides of the stadium. Additional parking is available in the lot located on Thorpe Lane behind the Track and Field Stadium. Requests for parking passes should be made well in advance to the Sports Information Office. TEXAS STATE PRESS BOX The Texas State Press Box, located on the fourth level of the Jerry D. and Linda Gregg Fields West Side Complex at Bobcat Stadium, opens three hours prior to each game. The working press box, coaches booths and radio/tv booths are located on the same level. Media credentials are required for admittance to the press box and for pregame meals. GAME DAY SERVICES Pregame notes and programs are provided prior to the game. Play-by-play, team and individual statistics, along with postgame quotes and notes will be provided. SIDELINES Texas State follows guidelines set forth by the NCAA Public Relations Committee, the NCAA Football Rules Committee, the American Football Coaches Association, and the National Press Photographers Association. Photographers are not permitted to shoot between the 25-yard lines and must have credentials visible at all times. In an effort to ensure the best possible working conditions for media photographers. Photographers are required to request a photo vest provided in the press box. You also are required to return each vest to the press box before leaving the stadium. There will be uniformed security personnel patrolling the sidelines. Anyone holding a media pass who is not actively involved in coverage of the game will be asked to vacate the sidelines. Similar procedures will be in effect in the press box. POSTGAME INTERVIEWS Texas State holds its postgame interviews in the team meeting room located inside the Football End Zone Complex at Bobcat Stadium. Texas State head coach Everett Withers and requested players are available approximately 10 minutes after each game. Texas State s locker room is closed following each game and practice. Visiting SIDs will establish media interview and locker room admittance policies for their respective teams. MEDIA SERVICES Pregame packets including notes, statistics and gameday programs will be available prior to the game. Statistics and play-by-play are distributed after each quarter. 5 HEAD FOOTBALL COACH EVERETT WITHERS Everett Withers is in his first season as the head coach at Texas State after producing a winning track record as head coach and successful career as an assistant coach in the collegiate and NFL ranks. Withers was named head coach at Texas State on January 7, 2016, with a mission of implementing a proven formula for success both on and off the field. Last spring, those efforts began paying off when the Bobcats had their one of their best performances in the classroom in school history and performed over 500 combined hours of community service last summer while continuing offseason workouts. Currently, Withers has a career record and is 2-3 mark at Texas State. He has posted winning records in each of his three previous seasons as head coach, including the 2014 and 2015 campaigns at James Madison. He guided the Dukes to a pair of NCAA Division I FCS Playoff appearances and led the Tar Heels to the 2011 Independence Bowl. During his two seasons as head coach at James Madison, he led the Dukes to a combined 18-7 overall record, including a combined 12-4 record in the Colonial Athletic Association. Under Withers, JMU won a share of the Colonial Athletic Association championship in 2015, the school s first conference title since James Madison also set a school record with a 14-game winning streak during the regular season after the Dukes won the final seven games in the 2014 campaign and began the 2015 season with a 7-0 record. JMU also tied a school record by winning 10 straight CAA games. Withers led James Madison to a 9-3 record and had a 6-2 league mark to earn a No. 5 seed in the 2015 NCAA Division I FCS Playoffs. JMU also hosted the school s first home playoff game in seven years when it played Colgate on Dec. 5 after receiving a first-round bye. The Dukes had one of the elite offenses in the nation in 2015 and ranked second among FCS teams in scoring and total offense with 44.3 points and yards per game. JMU led the FCS in third-down conversions with 54 percent, while ranking fourth in pass completion percentage with 66.9 percent, seventh in rushing with yards per game and ninth in red-zone scoring with 89.4 percent. The Dukes also set a school record with 6,345 yards of total offense after rushing for 3,285 yards and passing for 3,060 yards. Withers coached 10 All-Conference players in In his inaugural season at James Madison, Withers was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award that is given to NCAA Division I FCS Coach of the Year while leading the Dukes to a 9-4 overall record and a third-place finish in the league standings with a 6-2 mark after being picked eighth in the preseason polls in James Madison also won five of their seven road games after going winless on the road the previous year and played in the FCS Playoffs for the first time since That year, James Madison set school records in total offense, passing offense, completions and touchdown passes and ranked 10th nationally in total offense with yards per game. The Dukes also were the 17th-best scoring team and ranked second in the country in turnover margin (+1.08). They also had one of their best seasons on record in terms of blocks, ranking sixth in total blocks (7), including a No. 3 ranking in blocked punts (4). Beginning his 29th season in coaching, Withers was named head coach at Texas State after spending 22 years coaching in the NCAA Division I ranks and seven seasons in the NFL. In addition to coaching at James Madison, Withers served coaching stints at Ohio State, North Carolina, Minnesota, Texas, Louisville, Southern Miss, Tulane and Austin Peay. He coached six seasons with the Tennessee Titans and spent one year as a quality control coach with the New Orleans Saints. 5 During his coaching career, Withers has served 11 years as a defensive coordinator and 17 seasons as a defensive secondary coach. Withers went to James Madison in January 2014 from The Ohio State University, where he served as assistant head coach, co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach in 2012 and 2013 under Urban Meyer. The Buckeyes set a school record with a 24-game winning streak and had a 24-2 record during his tenure. Ohio State had a 12-0 record and finished No. 3 in the national rankings in It was the sixth unbeaten and untied season in school history. The Buckeyes also ranked second in the Big Ten with 14 interceptions, and all four starting defensive backs earned All-Big Ten Conference recognition in Withers also coached another safety who earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten Conference recognition in Prior to accepting his position with Ohio State, Withers spent four years at North Carolina. He was promoted to interim head coach in July 2011 and led the Tar Heels to a 7-6 overall record and a berth in the Independence Bowl against Missouri. His first defensive unit (in 2008) ranked eighth nationally with 20 interceptions, and 2009 defense ranked sixth in total defense, 10th in rushing defense, 13th in scoring defense and 14th in passing defense. The UNC defense was the only defense in the nation that ranked in the top 15 in total yards allowed, scoring defense, rushing defense, pass defense pass-efficiency defense, third down defense and tackles for loss. The Tar Heels also had 19 interceptions and set an ACC record with 508 interception return yards. His 2010 unit matched their interception total from 2009 when they picked off 19 passes. They also were fourth in the ACC and 30th nationally in total defense despite having to play a different defensive lineup every game. North Carolina had 58 interceptions in the three seasons Withers was defensive coordinator. Five players off that team were taken in the NFL draft, including first-round pick Robert Quinn. While Withers was interim head coach in 2011, North Carolina ranked 14th nationally in rushing defense and had 13 interceptions in Individually, running back Giovani Bernard became the first Tar Heel in 27 seasons to rush for 100 yards in five straight games and finished the season with 1,253 yards rushing and Dwight Jones caught 85 passes for 1,196 yards and 12 touchdowns. Withers spent one year as defensive coordinator at Minnesota and was a defensive backs coach at Texas under his former collegiate coach, Mack Brown, from after serving as a defensive coordinator, assistant head coach and defensive backs coach at Louisville from While he was at Texas, Withers guided a secondary that ranked 75th nationally in pass defense efficiency in 1997 to leading the nation in In his three seasons at Louisville, his 1996 defense ranked fourth nationally in both total defense and rushing defense, while leading the NCAA with 41 forced turnovers. LOYD MAKES IMMEDIATE IMPACT Despite joining Texas State s roster as a junior college transfer last January, Gabe Loyd was elected as a team captain and received the most votes from the team. Loyd is a preseason All-Sun Belt selection by Phil Steele after transferring from Fort Scott Community College, where he tallied 106 tackles, 54 solo stops, 21 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks in Loyd enters the ULM tied with teammate Teron Fitzgerald for the Sun Belt lead with two fumble recoveries this season and ranks third among team leaders with 38 tackles and 29 solo stops. He also has a 1.0 tackle for loss to rank fifth on the team. He had seven tackles at Georgia State to go along with his two fumble recoveries after he tallied seven stops against Incarnate Word, six tackles vs. No. 6 Houston and eight stops at No. 24 Arkansas. JONES MOVING UP CAREER CHARTS Senior quarterback Tyler Jones enters the ULM game having set two Texas State single games records for most yards passing (475) and touchdown passes (5) in a game against Incarnate Word. He also passed Barrick Nealy for second place on Texas State s career leaders with 9,030 yards of total offense. In addition, Jones ranks second among Texas State s career leaders with 7,650 passing yards, 694 pass completions, 1116 pass attempts, 54 passing touchdowns, 74 TDs that he is responsible for and yards of total offense per game. This season, Jones has completed 126 of 198 passes for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns. He leads the Sun Belt and ranks 10th nationally with 25.4 completions per game and is 27th nationally and leads the league with a.638 completion percentage this season. Jones also ranks third among league leaders and 28th in the NCAA Division I FBS with yards passing per game. He enters the Georgia State game with 36 career starts, including the last 29 contests. SCHRADE LEADS TIGHT ENDS One of Texas State s team captains in 2016, Gabe Schrade has started each of the first five games this season. Schrade enters the ULM with 15 catches for 150 yards and two touchdowns this season after logging three catches for 25 yards at Georgia State. He also had four receptions for 61 yards and a career-high two touchdowns against Incarnate Word. He opened this season with six catches for 72 yards and caught a game-deciding shovel pass for a two-point conversion at Ohio.

7 Texas State Game Notes Schrade entered the season having played in 12 games as a tight end and a member of Texas State s special teams in He made his first career start at tight end against Prairie View A&M after catching a 12-yard pass at Florida State in the season opener. While on special teams, he assisted on a tackle at Arkansas State. MAYBERRY IN THE BACKFIELD Sophomore Stedman Mayberry led Texas State with 148 all-purpose yards at Georgia State after rushing for a career-best 87 yards on 26 carries and catching five passes for 61 yards against the Panthers. Mayberry leads in rushing 288 yards and a touchdown on 80 carries in Texas State s first five games. He also led the Bobcats with 69 yards rushing on 22 carries against Incarnate Word after running for 79 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in his first career start at Ohio. Mayberry also has caught 20 passes for 161 yards this season to rank second among the team s receptions leaders. He had three receptions against Incarnate Word after catching four passes against Houston. Mayberry logged a careerbest six receptions for 47 yards at Ohio. RECEIVING YARDS LEADER Junior college transfer Elijah King leads Texas State in receiving yards with 295 yards this season after catching five passes for 85 yards at Georgia State. King has caught 19 passes and is also one of three players on the team with two touchdown catches. He had a career-best of seven catches for 105 yards in his Bobcat debut at Ohio. LUNA LEADS BOBCATS WITH THREE TD RECEPTIONS Eric Luna caught his third touchdown pass of the season at Georgia State when he opened the scoring with 19- yard TD reception against the Panthers. He enters the ULM game with 19 catches for 161 yards this season. Luna had three catches for 35 yards and a touchdown against Incarnate Word after opening his Bobcat career with 10 catches for 90 yards and a touchdown at Ohio. WATTS LEADS BOBCATS Texas State wide receiver Tyler Watts is tied with Stedman Mayberry for the team lead after recording 20 catches for 182 yards and touchdown this season. Watts had three receptions for 35 yards at Georgia State after leading the Bobcats with a career-best seven catches for 68 yards against Incarnate Word. Watts also caught four passes for 13 yards against No. 6-ranked Houston after recording four receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown at Ohio. ANDERSON AND THREE RECEPTIONS Sophomore wide receiver P. J. Anderson equaled his career high of three receptions in his second straight game with three catches for 76 yards and a touchdown against Incarnate Word. He also caught three passes for 28 yards against No. 6-ranked Houston. McCLARTY ANCHORS DEFENSIVE LINE Texas State s starting defensive line of Dallas McClarty, Ishmael Davis and Jordan Mittie has combined for 36 tackles in first five games after McClarty recorded two tackles at Georgia State and combined with Davis for five tackles against Incarnate Word and seven stops against Houston. Mittie also had a career-best four tackles against the No. 6-ranked Cougars and had two stops at Arkansas and one against Ohio. His biggest play of the season came at Ohio when he forced a fumble that led to a game-tying field goal and sent the game into overtime en route to a victory. McClarty also had four tackles in each of the first two games, while Davis recorded five stops at Ohio and two tackles at Arkansas. Davis is one of five walk-on players to earn a scholarship this fall. FITZGERALD JOINS STARTING LINEUP Senior linebacker Teron Fitzgerald made his second straight start at Georgia State and forced a fumble, logged three tackles and had 1.0 tackles for a loss of two yards against the Panthers. Fitzgerald also tallied three tackles at Arkansas and two stops at Ohio. Fitzgerald is tied with teammate Gabe Loyd and two other players for fifth among NCAA Division I FBS leaders with two fumble recoveries against Ohio. He is the first Texas State player to recover two fumbles in a game since September 26, 2009 when Joplo Bartu recovered two fumbles against Texas Southern. O ROY LEADS SECONDARY Senior safety Javante O Roy led the Bobcats with a career-high 15 tackles at Georgia State after becoming the first Bobcat to record an interception this season with his first career interception against Incarnate Word. O Roy, who ranks second on the team with 46 total stops, also led the Bobcats with six solo tackles, and tallied seven total stops and a pass breakup against UIW. He opened the season with a 11 tackles at Ohio, before he tallied seven tackles at Arkansas and six stops against Houston. GUIDRY AND MCDOWELL IN THE CORNERS Clarence Guidry had five tackles at Georgia State after he tallied two tackles and led the Bobcats with two pass breakups against Incarnate Word. He enters the ULM game with 24 total tackles and leads Texas State with six breakups this season. Guidry led the secondary with nine tackles at Arkansas and had five stops at Ohio. Guidry also broke up two passes against Houston and Ohio. In addition, Brandon McDowell tallied five tackles and a pass breakup against Incarnate Word after he recorded six tackles against Houston and Arkansas. He opened the season with a career-best of nine stops at Ohio. He also leads the Bobcats with two tackles for loss. LONDON LEADS DEFENSE Redshirt freshman Bryan London leads Texas State with 50 tackles in the first five games. London, had nine stops at Georgia State after recording eight tackles against Incarnate Word, 11 against then-no. 6-ranked Houston, 10 at Arkansas and a career-best 12 stops at Ohio. He led the Bobcats in tackles during each of the first four games this season. 8 Texas State Game Notes DANIELS AND GRAHAM STANDS OUT AT ARKANSAS Three other freshmen linebackers Nikolas Daniels, Gavin Graham and Hal Vinson have recorded a sack this season. Vinson recorded a sack and forced a fumble at Georgia State after Graham logged a sack against Houston and Daniels tallied Texas State s first sack of the season on a play in which he also forced and recovered a fumble at Arkansas. GRIFFIN MAKES DEBUT After recovering from knee surgery last season, Frankie Griffin made his Bobcat debut against UIW and had two tackles. He recorded a career-best of five tackles at Georgia State in his first extensive action as a field linebacker this season. MCDOWELL IN RETURNS COLUMNS Brandon McDowell also leads Texas State in punt returns six returns for 37 yards after returning three punts for 12 yards at Georgia State and one punt for 15 yards versus Incarnate Word. McDowell also ranks second with 134 yards on seven kickoff returns. McDowell was named a preseason All-Sun Belt selection as a punt returner by Phil Steele and Athlon magazines after averaging 13.1 yards on 14 punt returns last season. He set a school record and had the third-longest punt return in Sun Belt history with a 95-yard return against Prairie View A&M. He also had the Sun Belt s Play of the Year when he returned a missed field goal 100 yards for a touchdown against South Alabama. EASTLING TAKING OVER KICKOFF RETURNS Freshman Jordan Eastling leads Texas State with nine kickoff returns for 176 yards after returning three kickoffs for 54 yards at Georgia State. He also had three returns for a career-best of 65 yards against Incarnate Word after returning three for 57 yards versus Houston. Eastling has also registered seven tackles as a backup cornerback this season. KABA PICKS UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF Senior punter Lumi Kaba is averaging 43.7 yards on 32 punts this season. He averaged 45.6 yards on 11 punts against Houston and 45.6 on eight punts at Arkansas after averaging 44.3 yards on eight punts at Ohio. Kaba had a seasonbest of 62-yard punt and punts of 60 and 54 yards at Ohio. He also has ten 50-yard punts this season, including two against Incarnate Word, three punts versus Houston and Arkansas. He also has had 11 punts land inside the 20 this year, including two against Incarnate Word and Houston, four at Arkansas and three at Ohio. Last season, Kaba averaged 44.3 yards on 65 punts.
