16 DIAA Concussion Protocol Shows Signs or Symptoms a. Remove from play - Official or Coach b. Evaluated by a Qualified Healthcare Professional Qualified Healthcare Professional (QHCP) is a MD, DO, School Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician s Assistant or Athletic Trainer [ATC] IF CLEARED at that time by the QHCP, athlete may return to play that day.

17 DIAA Concussion Protocol If NOT CLEARED by QHCP at that time, athlete CANNOT return to play that day. At this point, athlete must have Written Clearance from a QUALIFIED PHYSICIAN to return to practice or play. Failure to comply = INELIGIBLE athlete

Please ensure that All students must have annual PPE & answer the 12 AHA approved heart history questions. All students must sign the SCA Fact Sheet on PPE form

23 Practice Policies DIAA Regulation 1008/ ALL practice days (school and non-school day): One day of no activity per seven day period A minimum of 21 calendar days of practice prior to the first competition date [ ] Student must practice at least 7 calendar days prior to participating in a contest School day practices limited to two [2] hours

24 Practice Policies DIAA Regulation 1008/ These are in effect for NON-SCHOOL days A limit of no more than 2 practices with physical activity No practice can be longer than three (3) hours in length A grand total of five (5) hours of physical activity daily When having 2 practice session in a day; there MUST be a one hour minimum cooling period between the two practice sessions

31 DIAA POLICIES & PROCEDURES Special Accommodations Requests Medical, Religious, Other Each state association may, in keeping with applicable laws, authorize exceptions to NFHS playing rules to provide reasonable accommodations to individual participants with disabilities and/or special needs, as well as those individuals with unique and extenuating circumstances. The accommodations should not fundamentally alter the sport, heighten risk to the athlete/others or place opponents at a disadvantage.

41 Student Broadcast Program The School Broadcast Program is available to high schools nationwide. The program allows schools to leverage PlayOn! Sports extensive and proprietary technology, services and support to build their school s digital network on the NFHS Network. Schools can produce and distribute high quality events throughout the year including regular season sports, graduation, band, cheer events, as well as other school activities. 46 Rule Change RULE 1-20 NEW NON-PLAYING PERSONNEL Non-Playing Personnel, e.g., Spirit Participants, Media, etc., Shall Remain Outside The Playing Area During 30- Second Time-Outs. Non-Playing Personnel Shall Remain Outside The Area On The End Line Where The Free Throw Lane Is Extended, During The Game. Rationale: Allows The Officials To Have Rules Support When Instructing Non-Playing Individuals To Be In Their Appropriate Area.

Rationale: The Addition Of This Information To Rule Assists The Officials With Enforcing The Rules For Uniforms And Other Apparel.

53 Rule Change RULES 3-5-3b,c & 3-6 TEAM MEMBER S EQUIPMENT, APPAREL Arm Sleeves, Knee Sleeves, Lower-Leg Sleeves, Tights And Compression Shorts Are Permissible. The Sleeves/Tights And Compression Shorts Shall Be Black, White, Beige Or The Predominant Color Of The Jersey And The Same Color Sleeves/Tights Worn By Teammates. All Sleeves/Tights And Compression Shorts Shall Be The Same Solid Color And Must Be The Same Color As Any Headband And/Or Wristband(s) Worn.

Either Team May Be Granted A Time-Out During A Dead Ball. Player Control Is Required During A Live Ball, When Either A Player Or The Head Coach May Request A Time-Out. The Committee Wanted To Maintain The Current Rules Pertaining To Time-Outs. Consideration Has Been Given Regarding Continuing The Opportunity For A Head Coach To Request A Time-Out.

66 Points of Emphasis ACKNOWLEDGING AND GRANTING TIME-OUTS When The Ball Is Dead, The Crew Must Maintain Its Coverage Areas On The Court, But Also Be Aware Of The Opportunity For A Head Coach To Request A Time-Out. 72 Points of Emphasis REPLACING A DISQUALIFIED PLAYER, INJURED PLAYER OR REQUIRED SUB The Head Coach Now Has 15 Seconds (Previously 20) To Provide A Substitute Player When The Player Is Required To Leave The Game, Due To: Five Fouls Injury Blood Rule When The Player Is Disqualified, The Reporting Official Will: Complete The Report To The Scorer Inform The Head Coach Signal The Timer To Sound The 15-Second Horn

73 Points of Emphasis REPLACING A DISQUALIFIED OR INJURED PLAYER (CONT.) If The Substitute Is For An Injured Player, The Head Coach Is Allowed To Tend To The Injured Player Before Being Concerned With The Required Substitute. As Soon As The Head Coach Has Tended To The Injured Player And Is Able To Resume Coaching Duties, The Ruling Official Shall Instruct The Timer To Sound The Horn To Begin The 15-Second Substitution Interval. 75 Points of Emphasis PROTECTING THE FREE THROWER When The Ball Is Released By The Free Thrower, The Players Occupying Free Throw Lane Spaces, Are Allowed To Enter The Lane. The Semi-Circle Is Not The Lane. No Player, Including The Free Thrower, Is Allowed To Cross The Free Throw Line, Until The Ball Contacts The Ring. Even Though This Was Clarified Last Season, It Continues To Be A Point Of Emphasis This Season. Once The Ball Is Released, The Opponent May Move Between The Free Thrower And The Basket, But Cannot Cross The Free Throw Line, Until The Ball Contacts The Ring. After The Ball Contacts The Ring, And The Opponent Makes Contact With The Free Thrower, That Contact Is Legal, Unless It Displaces The Free Thrower Or Goes Beyond Incidental Contact.

76 Points of Emphasis RULE 9-1-3a PROTECTING THE FREE THROWER When The Ball Is Released By The Free Thrower, The Players Occupying Free Throw Lane Spaces, Are Allowed To Enter The Lane. Once The Ball Is Released, The Opponent May Move Between The Free Thrower And The Basket, But Cannot Cross The Free Throw Line, Until The Ball Contacts The Ring.
