The game will start at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN. Saturday s victory over North Carolina was the first in five chances for the Canes at North Carolina s Kenan Memorial Stadium, dating back to the 1963 season. Quarterback Jacory Harris has enjoyed a great first half to his senior campaign, as he has passed for 1,104 yards with 12 touchdowns and only three interceptions. On Sunday he was named the College Football Performance Awards Honorable Mention Quarterback of the Week after his 20-of-30 passing performance for 267 yards and three touchdowns against North Carolina. Harris has been so effective so far this season that he ranks 8th nationally with a pass efficiency rating. Miami s leading tackler Sean Spence was named the ACC Linebacker of the Week for the second straight week for his performance in the Hurricanes win at North Carolina. The senior once again led the Canes in tackles against North Carolina, racking up 14 on the day, seven of them solo. However, none was bigger than his sack on the Tar Heels final drive. On the year, Spence has tallied a team-best 55 tackles, 29 of those solo. Nationally, Spence ranks 11th in tackles and is eighth with 1.70 tackles for loss per game. Spence was also named the College Football Performance Awards Honorable Mention Linebacker of the Week for the third time this season. Senior wide receiver Travis Benjamin set career-highs with eight catches and three rushes against North Carolina and led Miami with 140 all-purpose yards on the day. Benjamin leads the Canes in receiving (24 receptions, 346 yards), punt returns (six attempts, 85 yards) and kick returns (11 attempts, 247 yards). There was speculation that Miami would miss all-everything kicker/punter Matt Bosher after he was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2011 NFL Draft. However, junior kicker Jake Wieclaw has done an excellent job this season. He has been perfect in both field goals (7-for-7) and extra points (23-for-23) so far this season. Against North Carolina, he hit a career-long 41 yard field goal in the first quarter, only to best that mark with a successful 43-yard attempt in the second quarter.

Through the first four games of the season, Miller was the only back in America with a rush of 40-yards or more in every game. He did not extend that streak at Virginia Tech, but did have runs of 37 and 30 yards. Of his 11 career rushes/receptions of 25-yards or more, nine have come after halftime. Miller recorded 166 rushing yards on 18 carries against Virginia Tech, posting his fifth-straight game with at least 100 yards rushing. Miller is the first Cane to open the season with five-straight 100-yard rushing games. Willis McGahee started the 2002 season with 100-plus in four of the first five games. The last time a Cane recorded five-straight 100-yard rushing games was Clinton Portis in Miller has nine plays of 25-yards or longer this season: seven rushes and two kick returns. Until the Ohio State game (184 yards), Miller's output against Tech was a career best. The Hokies run defense came into the 2011 meeting ranked No. 4 nationally against the run, giving up only yards on the ground. Miller joins former Cane Tyrone Moss ( ) with seven career 100-yard rushing games. Edgerrin James ( ) is the all-time leader with 15 games of 100 or more yards on the ground. When IT COUNTS You can only bottle up the electric Lamar Miller for so long. His career shows that the second half is clearly Miller Time. The Hurricanes have taken the last two meetings by a combined score of Miami and Georgia Tech met in the postseason in 1999, with the Canes taking a Gator Bowl victory. A CANES WIN OVER THE YELLOW JACKETS WOULD... Give the Hurricanes their third consecutive victory over Georgia Tech. Give the Hurricanes a.500 Atlantic Coast Conference record. Be Miami s second straight Atlantic Coast Conference victory. Give Al Golden a 3-1 record at Sun Life Stadium. The COACHES Al Golden is in his first year as Miami s head coach and owns an overall record of Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson sports a career record of , leading the Yellow Jackets to a record over the past four seasons. Scouting THE YELLOW JACKETS Georgia Tech is looking to bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season last weekend with Virginia pulling the upset in Charlottesville, Va The Yellow Jackets possess one of the nation s most potent offensive attacks averaging 42.9 points per game, the nation s second overall offense and rushing attack under Paul Johnson s patented triple option run scheme. Look for Georgia Tech to keep the ball on the ground as they rank near the bottom in passing yards with junior quarterback Tevin Washington only attempting 81 passes over seven games, completing 39 for 1076 yards and 10 scores. The Yellow Jackets running game is diverse with three players over 400 yards rushing with running back Orwin Smith and quarterback tandem David Sims and Tevin Washington leading the team. Georgia Tech isn t afraid to go for it on fourth down as they sport a 70 percent conversion ratio, going 7-for-10 so far this season. Kicker Justin Moore has been unreliable this season going 4-for-8 on field goal attempts with a long of 40 yards and two blocked kicks. Passers beware, Georgia Tech is tied for fourth in the nation with two pick-sixes, and have snagged eight interceptions while taking down the quarterback 16 times. Up NEXT... The Canes have a short week as they return to Sun Life Stadium on Thursday night to take on the Cavaliers of Virginia (10/27). Their home stand continues as the Duke Blue Devils come to town the following week (11/5) before the Canes head back out on the road. Streak CONTINUES Former Hurricanes and current procanes Frank Gore (San Francisco) and Devin Hester (Chicago) both scored touchdowns in Week 6 of the NFL season. At least one former Cane has now scored a touchdown every NFL week since Week 15 of the 2002 season - a span of 145 straight weeks. Travis BENJAMIN STEPPING UP Senior wide receiver Travis Benjamin had a career day against North Carolina last Saturday. His eight receptions and three rushes were personal-bests. Benjamin is putting up some gaudy numbers this season. The Belle Glade, Fla. native currently ranks 14th nationally in punt return yardage with yards per return. His all-purpose yards are also on the rise. Benjamin leads the squad with 346 receiving yards and leads all players with 85 punt return yards and 247 kick return yards. In all, he averages yards per game, trailing only Lamar Miller s Nationally, Benjamin ranks 30th in all-purpose yards. Over five seasons at Temple, Golden took the Owls to unprecedented heights. Before his arrival, TU had just two winning seasons over its previous 26 years and had only won 22 percent of its games over the previous 30 years. Quickly, Golden made the Owls a contender, leading the team to a combined record of 17-8 his last two years there. The 2009 season marked Temple s first winning season since 1990, and Golden was rewarded with MAC Coach of the Year honors. UM remains the highest ranked school in the state of Florida. In an impressive ascent, UM has moved up 29 slots in the last 10 years, making it one of the fastest-rising institutions among national universities in recent times. UM is the only school currently in the top 50 to move up nine spots in one year and 29 spots in the past 10 years. Home SWEET SUNSHINE STATE HOME Miami s game at North Carolina was the last of three games that the Canes played outside of the Sunshine State this regular season. Miami traveled to play Maryland, Virginia Tech and North Carolina in its only out-of-state games on the year. Nine games this season will be played in Florida, including a trip to Tallahassee to face Florida State on Nov. 12 and to Tampa for a tilt with USF on November 19. Miami FOOTBALL RANKED EIGHTH NATIONALLY IN APR When the NCAA s Academic Progress Report (APR) was announced in May, the Canes football program headlined an outstanding academic showing by the University of Miami this past school year. The football team (along with baseball, men s basketball and men s tennis) improved upon its APR score for an impressive seventh straight season. In fact, the UM football program s APR score (978) ranked eighth among all FBS schools.
