The Bengals had four players reach double figures in that contest, including freshman Megan Hochstein, who posted a game-high 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting, while fellow classmate Grace Kenyon contributed a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Kenyon also tied for game-high honors with six assists, joining junior Apiphany Woods, who finished with 14 points, along with senior Jasmine Lemon. For the season, Kenyon leads Idaho State with 11.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while senior Rebecca Schrimpsher (5.0 rpg) tops the squad with five 3-point baskets. In addition, Bengal freshman Juliet Jones has San Diego ties, having graduated from Cathedral Catholic High School in As a team, ISU is shooting 38.4 percent from the field, including a 19-percent clip from beyond the arc, and 61.4 percent from the free-throw line. Head coach Seton Sobolewski is entering his seventh season at the helm of the Bengal program and sports an overall record of In 2012, Sobolewski collected Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year honors after guiding ISU to a 24-8 overall record and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. In 2013, the Bengals made their second straight postseason appearance with a berth in the WNIT. SDSU sports a 27-8 all-time record against Big Sky opponents, including a victory over Sacramento State in the season opener on Nov. 14. Scouting the Wolverines Michigan is off to a 3-1 start, including a triumph over Western Michigan at home in its last outing on Nov. 23. The Wolverines opened with a pair of home victories over Detroit (Nov. 14) and Bucknell (Nov. 16), before dropping an decision at Pittsburgh on Nov. 20. Prior to its clash with the Aztecs, Michigan will square off against Washington State in its first matchup of the San Juan Shootout on Friday, starting at 1 p.m. AT. The Wolverines have three players averaging double figures for the season, led by freshman Katelynn Flaherty s 15.0 points per game, while seniors Cyesha Goree and Shannon Smith have chipped in 12.0 points apiece per contest. Goree, who a second-team all-big Ten pick last season, tops the squad with an average of 12.8 rebounds and leads the nation with four double-doubles, while Smith, who received all-conference honorable mention a year ago, has posted team highs of 17 assists (4.3/gm) and 8 steals (2.0/gm) thus far during the campaign. Collectively, Michigan has connected on 44.4 percent of its field-goal attempts, including a 42.9 clip from threepoint range, while draining 75.0 percent of its free throws. Flaherty is the Wolverines main three-point threat, having buried 10 of 23 shots from long range, followed by sophomore Siera Thompson (7) and junior Madison Ristovski (6). Michigan is led by third-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico, who owns a record on the Ann Arbor campus, highlighted by an NCAA tournament appearance in 2013 and a WNIT berth a year ago. Previously, Barnes Arico served as head coach for 10 years at St. John s, where she guided the Red Storm to postseason competition on seven occasions, including an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in The Aztecs are 4-6 all-time against current members of the Big Ten Conference, including a 2-3 mark at neutral sites. SDSU defeated Minnesota, 61-59, in its last meeting against a Big Ten squad at the Nugget Classic in Reno, Nev., on Nov. 26, Aztecs-South Carolina Recap San Diego State ran into a juggernaut last Sunday, falling to No. 2/3 South Carolina by an count at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, S.C. With the loss, SDSU slips to 1-3 overall, while the Gamecocks keep their unblemished record intact at 3-0. South Carolina shot 51 percent from the floor (33-65) and converted 29 Aztec turnovers into 31 points to help fuel its big win. Conversely, SDSU connected on just 14 of its 49 field goal attempts (29 percent) and was outscored 40-8 in the paint. Individually, junior Erimma Amarikwa paced the Aztecs with nine points and six rebounds to go along with a career high-tying three steals, while senior Desi Culberson grabbed six boards of her own. In addition, sophomore Aleiah Brandon drained her first two collegiate three-pointers to finish with six points. SDSU actually led for the only time in the game at 6-5 following a pair of free throws by freshman Cheyenne Greenhouse with just over four minutes elapsed. However, South Carolina lived up to its lofty status and more, scoring the next 14 points as part of a 33-2 run to take complete control of the contest by the 4:12 mark of the first half. The Gamecocks Tiffany Mitchell led all players with 20 points, highlighted by a 6-for-6 effort from three-point range,

Aztecs-Furman Recap Visiting San Diego State struggled to find its offensive rhythm last Friday, dropping a decision to Furman at Timmons Arena. For the second straight outing, the Aztecs were unable to overcome a substantial first-half run by the opposition as the Lady Paladins used a 21-9 surge over a 10-plus minute span to seize control of the game. With the loss, SDSU falls to 1-2 overall, while Furman remains unbeaten at 3-0 on the young season. The Aztecs shot 31 percent from the field (17-55), including a 15 percent clip from three-point range (2-13), while connecting on just 7 of 15 free throws (47 percent). The Lady Paladins fared slightly better from the floor, converting 21 of 55 their attempts (38 percent). However, the host school went 14-for-20 from the foul line and sank four triples to help keep the Scarlet and Black at bay. Individually, freshman McKynzie Fort was the lone SDSU player to reach double figures, tying for game-high honors with 13 points off the bench, while senior Desi Culberson and junior Ahjalee Harvey chipped in seven points apiece. Despite combining for 15 rebounds, senior Khristina Hunter and junior Erimma Amarikwa found difficulty in the middle, scoring just six points between them. On the flip side, Furman had three competitors finish in double figures, led by Holli Wilkins, who finished with 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting, followed closely by Brittany Hodges (11 pts.) and Sarah Durdaller (10 pts.). Hodges logged her second double-double of the year after grabbing 11 rebounds, while Whitney Bunn dished out a game-high seven assists. After missing seven of their first nine shots, the Aztecs fought themselves off the ropes as Culberson and junior Deidra Smith scored four points each during an 8-0 run to give the visitors a 12-8 advantage with 9:49 left in the period. However, the Lady Paladins quickly stole SDSU s thunder with three straight baskets in just 35 seconds to take the lead for good at Furman gradually stretched the margin to over the ensuing nine minutes, following a Durdaller basket and a Bunn free throw with 14 seconds to go on the clock. In the interim, the Aztecs were limited to just two field goals and three foul shots, until freshman Cheyenne Greenhouse broke free for a layup just before time expired to give the contest its score at intermission. However, any hopes for an SDSU comeback were soon dashed in the opening four minutes of the second half when Furman fashioned a 10-3 spurt to build a commanding advantage. Two treys by Allison Beasley served as bookends to the run, which also included consecutive baskets by Wilkins and Hodges. The Aztecs trimmed the deficit to shortly thereafter on a layup by Fort and two Harvey free throws with 15:13 remaining. However, the Lady Paladins soon countered with back-to-back jumpers by Durdaller and Wilkins, and SDSU never threatened again. Despite maintaining a edge in bench scoring, the Aztecs were outrebounded by a margin, while Furman converted 17 SDSU turnovers into 13 points. Fort is the fifth consecutive Aztec player to garner top MW preseason freshman accolades, following in the respective paths of Chloe Johnson, Deajanae Scurry and Desi Culberson, as well as Melissa Sweat, who received such distinction prior to the campaign. Fort, who led the powerful Etiwanda High School program to the Southern Regional finals of the CIF playoffs as a senior last season, was a first-team allstate selection and Baseline League most valuable player honoree before earning all-area recognition by the Los Angeles Times. As a team, SDSU was predicted to finish seventh in the preseason poll released by the conference office. SDSU earned 134 points from the panel, trailing UNLV (143 pts.) by just nine points for sixth place. Defending regular-season champion Colorado State was picked to repeat after receiving 21 of 28 first-place votes and 276 points, comfortably ahead of Boise State, which received four first-place votes and 241 points, while Wyoming was slotted for the third position with three first-place votes and 235 points. This year marks the first time since the beginning of the campaign that SDSU has not been selected to finish among the top three places in the MW preseason rankings. Noting the Newcomers In addition to McKynzie Fort, the Aztecs highly touted freshman class includes two other former prep stars in Cheyenne Greenhouse (Riverside, Calif.) and Lexy Thorderson (Castle Rock, Colo.), both of whom could play significant roles in SDSU s fortunes this season. Greenhouse was a first-team all-cif selection after leading Canyon Springs High to the Division I state championship as a senior in She also collected the Inland Empire League s most valuable player award and received first-team all-conference recognition for the fourth straight year. Thorderson, meanwhile, garnered numerous postseason accolades at Rock Canyon High, where she finished her prep career as the school s all-time leading scorer. A nominee for the McDonald s All-America team, Thorderson led the state of Colorado in 3-point field goals made as a senior, earning second-team class 5A all-state distinction. SDSU also solidified its depth for the season after junior Kym Ellison (Georgia Tech) and sophomore Geena Gomez (St. Joseph s) transferred to The Mesa in the summer of The two players will not be eligible to compete this season due to NCAA rules, but will serve as valuable assets to the team in practice Rewind After winning a program-record 27 games and capturing its second straight Mountain West regular-season championship, San Diego State faced a year of transition during the campaign. Not only did the Aztecs have to adjust to a brand new coaching staff, but they were also forced to overcome the loss of four senior starters who accounted for 64 percent of the team s scoring from the previous year. With five newcomers on board, growing pains were certainly inevitable. Below are some additional obstacles the Aztecs endured last year: SDSU had to replace two starters, Erimma Amarikwa and Ahjalee Harvey, who were lost for the year after suffering injuries during the non-conference schedule. As a result, the Aztecs employed 10 different starting lineups last season compared to just three in In addition, SDSU was faced with a difficult schedule featuring nine games against teams that advanced to postseason competition, including four squads that finished among the AP Top 25: South Carolina, Texas A&M, North Carolina State and USC. SDSU dropped four very close games during the non-conference slate by an average of three points in losses to Sacramento State, USC, San Diego and UCLA. Despite these tribulations, the gritty Aztecs found success on the court during the campaign. Below are a few of the accomplishments of last year s squad: SDSU led the Mountain West as team in rebounding margin (+7.6) and rebounding defense (33.1/game). The Aztecs also ranked second in the conference in field-goal percentage (.419) and offensive rebounds (15.3/game).

Coupled with a win at Fresno in 2013, SDSU is the only MW team to defeat the Bulldogs twice on the road in the past two years. The Aztecs topped the 80-point barrier in back-to-back conference games for the first time since joining the Mountain West after scoring 88 points in consecutive home victories over San José State and Utah State. Elsewhere, Stacie Terry tied for the second-highest victory total (13) ever by a first-year SDSU head coach in program history By the Numbers With a new season already underway, below are a few trends to watch in : SDSU has claimed 36 of its last 47 home games and has gone (.747) on the Viejas Arena floor since the start of the campaign. The Aztecs have recorded 65 Mountain West victories in the last six seasons after posting 31 wins in the league s first nine years. SDSU is 63-1 over the last three-plus seasons when leading with five minutes to go in the game, including its victory over Sacramento State in the opener on Nov. 14. The Aztecs lone blemish during that stretch was a heartbreaking defeat at Washington in December SDSU is in December games dating back to the campaign, with seven of those losses coming against teams either ranked or receiving votes in the national polls. The Aztecs have advanced to finals of the MW Championship in five of the last seven years after not winning a single game in the tournament s first eight years of existence. For the second straight season, SDSU will play 18 conference games. The Aztecs will complete a home-and-away slate with eight squads, while facing San José State (home) and Utah State (away) just once. SDSU Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for Jeff Jacobs JAM Center San Diego State held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Jeff Jacobs JAM Center, the men s and women s basketball performance center, on Aug. 27. The JAM Center is scheduled to be completed by August 2015 and in time for the start of the campaign. SDSU President Dr. Elliot Hirshman, men s hoops head coach Steve Fisher and Jeff Jacobs spoke before a selected group of invited guests, which included Steve and Lisa Altman, and Jim and Susan Morris, as well as members of both the Aztec men s and women s basketball programs. The master of ceremonies for the event was the voice of San Diego State men s basketball, Ted Leitner. Preliminary site work started in July where the Jeff Jacobs JAM Center will be located, just south of the Fowler Athletics Center and east of the football practice fields. The facility, which will support the continued growth and development of the SDSU men s and women s basketball teams, includes two full-length courts, eight baskets, locker rooms, film rooms, team lounges, athletic training room and coaches locker rooms. Hundreds of supporters contributed to the effort to make the Jeff Jacobs JAM Center a reality. In addition to the naming gift from Jeff Jacobs, Hal and Debby Jacobs, Steve and Lisa Altman and Jim Morris, creating the name JAM Center, sizeable donations were made from the Manna Charitable Foundation and the Walter and Betty Zable Foundation. The total cost of the project is $14.5 million, of which $12.5 million in private funding has been raised. No state funds will be used to construct this building. The project was designed by JCJ Architecture and is being built by The Hunt Construction Group. 10 Hometown San Diego, Calif. Education Bachelor of Arts - Broadcast Journalism UT Arlington, 1998 Playing Experience Texas-Arlington Head Coaching Experience 2014 San Diego State Assistant Coaching Experience LSU UCLA Southern Mississippi Illinois Dayton Louisville uuthe STACIE TERRY FILE UT Arlington STACIE TERRY Head Coach Second Season UT Arlington (1998) San Diego native Stacie Terry was named the eighth head coach in the history of the San Diego State women s basketball program on May 15, During her first season on Montezuma Mesa, Terry was saddled with the unenviable task of replacing four senior starters who accounted for nearly 64 percent of the team s scoring offense from the previous year, as well as overcoming the loss of two key players - forward Erimma Amarikwa, a preseason all-mountain West selection, and starting point guard Ahjalee Harvey - to injuries prior to conference play. Despite those obstacles and a demanding schedule featuring nine games with teams that eventually advanced to postseason competition, Terry s squad flashed its resiliency during the campaign, finishing with a overall record and a 9-9 mark in the MW. Under Terry s guidance, the Aztecs led the league in rebounding margin and rebounding defense, while ranking second in field-goal percentage. Individually, Terry also oversaw the progress of senior center Cierra Warren, who became the fifth SDSU player in the last six years to receive first-team all-mw recognition. Prior to her arrival on The Mesa, Terry gained a wealth of experience as an assistant coach at the Division I level for 14 years, including five under head coach Nikki Caldwell, who transformed UCLA into a powerhouse before restoring LSU to national prominence. During Terry s two seasons at LSU, the Lady Tigers compiled a overall record and earned two NCAA tournament bids, including a Sweet 16 appearance during the campaign. During that season, the Lady Tigers also posted six victories against ranked opponents and finished with their second-highest scoring average (69.0) in the last seven years. Under Terry s guidance, forward LaShondra Barrett garnered first-team all-southeastern Conference accolades and received honorable mention All-America distinction in 2012 before becoming a first-round draft choice of the WNBA s Washington Mystics. Prior to her appointment at LSU, Terry served as an assistant under Caldwell at UCLA from , helping the Bruins gain national acclaim with a pair of NCAA tournament appearances. During Terry s tenure, UCLA posted 72 overall victories, as the squad finished with a 28-5 record, setting a school record for fewest losses in a single season to go with a No. 7 national ranking. In addition, the Bruins signed the fourth-ranked recruiting class that season, according to ESPN Hoop- Gurlz, while Terry helped mentor first-team all-pac-10 performers in Doreena Campbell, Darxia Morris and Jasmine Dixon, a 2012 honorable mention AP All-America selection, as well as all-conference freshman honorees Atonye Nyingifa and Markel Walker. Terry spent the campaign at Southern Mississippi, as the Golden Eagles posted a record and earned a postseason berth in the Women s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). While at Southern Miss, Terry spearheaded the development and coordination of the Lady Eagle recruiting campaign. Her responsibilities also included working with the perimeter players, scouting opponents and film breakdown, as well as coordinating all of the team s community service events. Terry also coached for three seasons from as an assistant under Hall of Fame head coach Theresa Grentz at Illinois, where the Fighting Illini had three straight recruiting classes ranked among the top 25 in the nation, according to Blue Star Basketball, and made three consecutive trips to the WNIT. Her primary duties included defensive instruction and working with the perimeter players. In addition, Terry coached at Dayton during the season following a three-year stint at Louisville from With the Cardinals, Terry s responsibilities encompassed recruiting, scouting, player development, summer camps and serving as a liaison for the program s community service outreach. Louisville captured the Conference USA regular-season title and earned a trip to the NCAA tournament in 2001 before making a WNIT appearance in She also assisted in signing the nation s 21st-ranked recruiting class in , according to All-Star Girls Report. Terry recruited and coached all-conference USA honoree Lori Nero, a draft choice of the WNBA s Houston Comets, as well as Sara Nord, who finished her collegiate career as the Cardinals all-time assist leader and ranks among the top 15 scorers in school history. Terry enjoyed a successful collegiate playing career at the University of Texas at Arlington, winning four varsity letters from under head coach Mike Dean. She earned first-team all-southland Conference honors after leading the Mavericks in scoring with 17.4 points per game as a senior in Terry scored 1,169 points during her career at UTA and still ranks among the school s top 10 in three-point field goals made (third), assists (sixth), steals (seventh) and free-throw percentage (10th). She is just one of 17 players in Maverick history to surpass the 1,000-point plateau, while her.335 career three-point field-goal percentage is also a school and Southland Conference career record. Terry played one season of professional basketball in Warsaw, Poland, averaging 12.0 points and 6.0 assists with the Polonia Phoenix, before returning to UT Arlington to begin her coaching career as a graduate assistant in Terry prepped at El Capitan High and held the Vaqueros career scoring record for three years following her graduation. She was inducted into the school s athletic hall of fame in 2008.
