Sophomore Courtney Dike led the team with 13 goals a year ago. She missed first couple of games while compe ng with Nigeria in FIFA U-20 World Cup. On Friday the Cowgirls defeated previously unbeated Southeastern Louisiana 3-1. A er falling behind, two quick goals from Emily Adamic and Diamond Simpson put UofM ahead. Atkins would add a goal of her own in the second to seal the game. The Lady Tigers would go on to rout the Owls of Kennesaw State on Sunday. Valerie Sanderson scored two quick goals, and freshman Sessen Stevens and Alyxandria Stafford woudl bag their first Memphis goals. Oklahoma State comes into its own tournament a er grabbing the first two wins of its season against Cal Poly and UT-Mar n. The Cowgirls started the season with six straight losses, three of which came at the expense of teams in the top 25. Texas Tech is off to its best start in program history at 7-0. The Red Raiders boast victories against now No. 18 Notre Dame and No. 10 California, the la er of which happened last Friday in double over me. Tech shines in defense, where they have allowed just three goals this season. A R O The Lady Tigers have had success against ranked opponents in the past, holding a against teams in the Top 25 since the team s incep on. A 2-1 over me victory against No. 6 UCF is the highest ranked win in program history. B H Valerie Sanderson s two goals and an assist in week four earned her a spot on the AAC Honor Roll. She was the first Lady Tiger to make an appearance on the list this year. S CLASS Senior midfielder Kylie Davis was named one of 30 women s soccer student-athletes selected as candidates for the Senior CLASS award. The awardfocuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their pla orm in athle cs to make a positve impact as leaders in their communi es. She is the third Lady Tiger to be named as a candidate. Lizzy Simonin won the award in MATCH NOTES B F Diamond Simpson s 33rd-minute goal against Southeastern Louisiana gave the Lady Tigers their first lead since the Alabama game to kickoff the season. Memphis had gone 400 minutes without taking a lead. Memphis had a league-best three players on the American Athle c Conference preseason all-conference teams. Junior defender Diamond Simpson headlines the trio as she was selected the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Simpson was joined by senior midfielder Kylie Davis and sophomore forward Valerie Sanderson on the preseason all-conference team N F O Last weekend, the Lady Tigers faced two opponents they hadn t faced before. Last me Memphis played a weekend series against two teams for the first me was near the end of last season when the Lady Tigers welcomed Temple and Conne cut, but that was for a conference matchup. The Lady Tigers were picked to finish third in the American Athle c Conference preseason poll. The league s coaches selected UCF to defend their crown while Connec cut was second. F C The Lady Tigers play four games against teams from the Southeastern conference. That s the most teams from any conference except for the American Athle c Conference. Memphis upperclassmen are about as experienced a group as you can get, with a combined total of 442 games played and 339 starts. Senior forward Kaitlyn Atkins leads all current Lady Tigers with 64 games played and 31 starts. Juniors Marissa Duguay and Diamond Simpson each have played in 40 games with 40 career starts. 10 The Lady Tigers welcome 10 new players to the squad in 2014, including nine freshman that comprise the freshman class. Of the 24 players on the 2014 roster, 11 call Canada home. Since the program first fielded a team in 1995, there has been one or more Canadians on the roster. The 11 Canadians this season are the most on any one roster, topping the previous high of nine on the 2013 roster.
