The Cardinal improved their season record to 3-2 after two victories at the Harvard Invitational last weekend. Stanford defeated Harvard 2-1 with unassisted goals from senior Brittany Oliveira and sophomore Jenny Farenbaugh. The Cardinal downed Dartmouth 1-0 with a goal from freshman Shari Summers. All-American goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart earned Most Valuable Player honors for Stanford in the tournament. Barnhart recorded nine saves in the two games and now has 13 saves in five games this season. She boasts a 0.60 goals against average. Senior Allyson Marquand leads the team with 16 shots. The Stanford scoring core continues to be spread as the four goals tallied this year have all been unassisted and scored by four different Cardinal (Marquand, Summers, Farenbaugh, Oliveira). The Stanford squad has averaged 15.4 shots per game in National Rankings... Stanford currently stands at No. 24 in the NSCAA national polls. The Cardinal is ranked No. 11 by Soccer Buzz and No. 16 by Soccer America. Notre Dame is ranked second in the nation by the NSCAA, Soccer Buzz and Soccer America. Notre Dame boasts an unblemished 6-0 record this season that includes three shutouts. The Fighting Irish have outscored their opponents 27-3 and have averaged 20.2 shots per game. Junior Mary Boland leads the squad with six goals (two game-winning goals) this year while senior Amy Warner leads the team in scoring with 16 points on five goals and six assists. Senior Amanda Guertin has notched a team-high 24 shots in Sophomore goalkeeper Erica Bohn has recorded 14 saves and two shutouts. Last season, the Fighting Irish posted a 13-8 record overall and a 4-3 record in Big East Conference action. Head coach Randy Waldrum, currently in his fifth year at UND, has tallied a record in his four seasons at Notre Dame.

Stanford's defense allowed the 49ers only one shot in the game that resulted in a save by All-American goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart. The game marked Barnhart's 23rd career shutout. Marquand led the Cardinal in shots, tallying six of the team's 17 total. Stanford attempted three shots before Pilot Jennifer Tuttle fired an unassisted shot into the upper left of the net in the 32nd minute of play for the only score of the game. Stanford senior co-captain Natalie Spilger got off four shots while sophomore Leah Tapscott and freshman Gina Farias-Eisner tallied two each. Stanford outshot Portland 5-2 in the second period. The first period was physical with Stanford and Pepperdine tallying a combined total of 24 penalties in the scoreless half. Seven different Cardinal were able to get eight shots off before the end of the first period. Pepperdine's Jennifer Brewer notched the only score of the game on an assist from teammate Ali Pavoni in the 73rd minute of play. Stanford recorded 18 total shots compared to the Waves five. Senior co-captain Ally Marquand led the Cardinal with six shots. Stanford's first score came at the start of the second period when Oliveira made good on an unassisted shot in the 46th minute of play. Farenbaugh brought the Cardinal lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 72:54. Stanford recorded 13 shots against the Crimson. Summers' goal came from an unassisted shot 15 yards out on the right side in the 37th minute of play. Summers also led Stanford in shots with four. All-American goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart tallied her 24th career shutout with the win over the Big Green. Barnhart recorded seven saves against Dartmouth and won the tournament award for the Most Valuable Player for Stanford.
