North Carolina (5-1) Last Week In a rematch of the 2010 NCAA College Cup final, Stanford scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to rally past No. 8 Notre Dame, 2-1, in a match interrupted for 49 minutes by lightning before a sellout crowd of 1,960 at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium on Friday, Sept. 9. On Sunday, Stanford got second-half goals from Chioma Ubogagu and Teresa Noyola two minutes apart midway through the second half to beat No. 11 UC Irvine, 2-0, and win the four-team Stanford Nike Invitational. National/Pac-12 Player of the Week Senior forward Lindsay Taylor was named Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week on Sept. 14, and also earned Bank of the West Pac-12 Player of the Week after her performances against Notre Dame and UC Irvine last weekend. Taylor led a late comeback against No. 8 Notre Dame by scoring the tying goal and assisting on the game-winner all within the final 10 minutes of the match to give Stanford the 2-1 victory in a rematch of last year s NCAA championship final on Friday. The Los Altos, Calif., native scored on a hard 25-yard shot that snuck just inside the right post. She then offered up a corner kick to Mariah Nogueira, who headed in the winning goal in the 88th minute.

3 Head Coach Paul Ratcliffe Two-time national coach of the year Paul Ratcliffe has built Stanford into one of the nation s elite and continues to draw the program closer to a national championship. In eight seasons, Ratcliffe has never failed to direct the Cardinal to the NCAA tournament. Now, with consecutive berths in the NCAA championship final, the team is a perennial title contender. In guiding Stanford to NCAA College Cup appearances the past three years, Ratcliffe has earned the past three Pac- 10 and NSCAA Pacific Region Coach of the Year awards, and two NSCAA National Coach of Year honors. The Cardinal has won the past two Pac-10 titles with perfect records and is a combined overall since Just as impressive is the level of talent that has come through the program -- headlined by the past two Hermann Trophy winners as college soccer s top player, Christen Press (2010) and Kelley O Hara (2009). Ratcliffe now heads into his ninth season at Stanford, which makes him the longesttenured head coach in program history, and his record makes him the winningest as well. 4 Preseason All-Americans Soccer America named two Stanford players to its 25-player Preseason All-America team. Senior midfielder Teresa Noyola and junior central defender Alina Garciamendez were so honored. In addition, junior outside back Rachel Quon earned a similar honor from All White Kit. National Team Involvement Stanford was represented by six players in the 2011 FIFA Women s Cup, including two current ones. Junior defender Alina Garciamendez and senior midfielder Teresa Noyola played for Mexico. Former Stanford players in the tournament were Nicole Barnhart, captain Rachel Buehler, and Kelley O Hara of the United States, and New Zealand s Ali Riley. In addition, Stanford s Camille Levin, Mariah Nogueira, Emily Oliver, and Sydney Payne were active in United States youth national team camps. Pac-12 favorite Stanford was the unanimous choice to win the Pac-12 title, as voted by the conference coaches. The Cardinal received all 11 possible first-place votes, and the maximum 121 points.
