3 MESSAGE FROM THE SPORTS CLUB MANAGER Welcome to Mooredale SC s Outdoor Hockey On behalf of the Mooredale Sports Club Staff, I would like to welcome you all to the season of Mooredale Outdoor Hockey. Sports have the capacity to bring together a community, and our hockey program is no exception to this. From the players helping each other to learn the sport, to the coaches passing on the tricks of the trade they ve learned from their years of experience, to the parents holding their coffees and hot chocolates while cheering on the teams the Mooredale community comes together on those cold winter nights around the Rosedale rink. In a city where competitive hockey is everywhere, our recreational league is unique in its ability to offer a relaxed atmosphere for kids to learn and play the sport at any age. We ve worked hard to improve the experience in the program by adding technical staff, upgrading the equipment, and introducing both the Intro to Hockey and Adult divisions. We re excited to kick off the season with our evaluation weeks, and can t wait to see the rink full of Mooredale hockey players again. We d like to thank you for your continued support of the program without you, there would be no club and no lifelong memories of hockey at the Rosedale rink! 6 FACILITY RULES All players must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet in order to be on the ice. No exceptions. Players are not permitted to enter the rink or be on the ice prior to the start of their scheduled practice or game. Please be respectful and courteous when using the change-rooms & team benches and don t leave garbage behind. No sports drinks are permitted on the ice or on the team benches. Absolutely no slap shots are permitted. Please ensure doors into the rink and into team benches are closed and secured during practices & games. 6

7 WEATHER POLICY As Mooredale s Outdoor Hockey program uses the outdoor rink at Rosedale Park, the weather plays a significant factor in cancellations each season. Sessions may be cancelled as a result of: heavy snow that is judged to negatively impact the safety of players, and/or render the ice unusable warm weather that softens the ice, and makes it unsafe for use rain, which can negatively impact the ice condition Weather Hotline In the case of inclement weather, we ask that you check our weather hotline prior to your child s practice or game. 8 LEAGUE RULES Preamble There are many leagues in the area that provide an outlet for the highly skilled and competitive player Mooredale is not one of them. The purpose of Mooredale Hockey is to provide a program that supports skill development, safety, fun, and friendship. Mooredale believes in fair and equal play for all participants!! Eligibility Rules Only players registered with the Mooredale Hockey League, and assigned to a team by Mooredale Sports Club staff are eligible to participate in any league game. A player registered in a younger age division may participate in an older age group s game, provided the team does not have more than 8 players available for its scheduled game. Equipment All players must wear the following protective equipment (no exceptions!): Helmet (must have a face mask either full metal cage or full plastic shield) Mouth Guard Neck Guard Shoulder Pads Elbow Pads Gloves Hockey Pants Knee Pads Jock/Jill Strap Skates Stick All players must wear their team jersey. Failure to wear the required equipment will result in not being permitted to step on the ice, or sit on the player s bench. Goalie Equipment will be provided by MSC. All equipment and bags must be returned to the storage room at Rosedale Park after the game. General League Rules Playing Time & Shift Matching All players will receive equal playing time and the opportunity to play different positions, excluding the goalie, who will remain in net unless pulled for an additional skater. For the U9 & U11 divisions, games will include 3-minute whistles throughout the game by the on-ice official. At the whistle, coaches are required to replace all on-ice players (excluding the goaltender). During the last 3- minutes of each game, the coach may play any player on the team. The on-ice officials will announce the final 3 minutes of the game. 8

9 LEAGUE RULES 2/3 We strongly encourage that the volunteer team coaches work together to match the strength of the lineups on the ice at the same time during the games. This will help to keep games competitive for both teams and provide a positive experience for all players involved. Goal Differential No score shall be recorded with greater than a 5 goal difference. For example, a game that ends 8-1 will be recorded as 6-1, and the team would be given a (+5) in goal difference. Three Goal Limit Players are restricted to a 3 goal maximum (unlimited assists) per game, both during the regular season and the playoffs. Timing U9, U11, and U14 division games will be 40 minutes of running time play. All games will begin after a 5 minute warm-up beginning at the official game time (according to the published schedule). Game time will be kept by the on-ice official designated at the start of the game. Standings During the regular season, points are awarded as follows: Win: 3 points Tie: 1 point Loss: 0 points Note: there is no overtime played in regular season games. Games can end in a tie. Standings are tabulated based on the points accumulated during regular season games. In the event of a tie between two or more teams in the standings, the following criteria will be used to determine the standings: - Most wins - Head to Head Matchup - Goal differential Official standings are available on Mooredale PowerUp Sports website, by clicking on Standings on the left side-bar menu and then selecting the appropriate season. Penalties All penalties called at the discretion of the on-ice officials. Three (3) minute minor penalties will be assessed for the following: - Tripping - Slashing - Roughing - High Sticking - Body Contact - Slap shots (for second offence) Fighting of any kind is not permitted. Any player who engages in fighting shall be ejected from the game, and their team will be given a 3-minute penalty. Absolutely NO slap shots are permitted. Wind-up for shots may not be above waist height. Officials will give players a warning on their first offence; and a penalty will be given on players second offence. Upon the third infraction, players will be ejected. 9

10 LEAGUE RULES 3/3 Playoff & Championship Games No playoff games can end in a tie. In the event of a tied game at the end of regulation time, the following will occur: U9 & U11 Divisions A 5-minute period of sudden victory overtime play If still tied, the game shall continue with no goalies U14 Division A 5-minute period of sudden victory overtime play If still tied, 5-person shootout, using the players on the ice at the end of the previous overtime period. If still tied, the shootout will continue with new shooters (i.e. players who have already taken a shot may not do so again until all other skaters have taken a shot) 10
