4 SHARKS REGULAR SEASON ( , 100 PTS., 3rd PACIFIC, 6th WEST. CONF.) CONSISTENCY UNDER WILSON: Since the season, when Doug Wilson was named general manager of the Sharks, only the Pittsburgh Penguins have played in more Stanley Cup Playoff series than the San Jose Sharks entering postseason play this year. San Jose has advanced to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 18 of their last 20 NHL seasons overall. On the chart below, each team that has qualified for the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs has already received an additional Playoff Season on this chart. However, each of those teams does not yet have a Series Played credited yet. So for instance, once their first round series begins, San Jose will have 26 Series Played and would receive an additional one for each series they advance. This is the same for all 2018 playoff teams. Additonally, each team s W-L record will need to be adjusted accordingly as they progress thru the 2018 playoffs. 6 SHARKS REGULAR SEASON ( , 100 PTS., 3 rd PACIFIC, 6 th WEST. CONF.) With new advanced filtering and enhanced stats, visit NHL.com/Stats to get the most in depth NHL team and player information and insights. The NHL runs its stats with SAP. FRANCHISE NOTES: The Sharks clinched a playoff spot for the 13 th time in the last 14 seasons, and the 18 th time in the last 20 seasons. In total, this marks the 20 th time San Jose has qualified for the playoffs in their 26 NHL seasons. The Sharks will make their 20 th playoff appearance since , tied for the second-most (Pittsburgh) during that span. Only Detroit (22) has more. The San Jose Sharks have been awarded the 2019 NHL All-Star Game, with All-Star Weekend being held at SAP Center at San Jose on Jan 25-27, This will be the 64th All-Star Game in NHL history. This marks the second time that San Jose will host the league s top talent showcase, featuring the superstars of the National Hockey League. The previous event, the 47th NHL All-Star Game, was held on Jan as the Eastern Conference defeated the Western Conference, The game is best remembered for hometown All-Star Owen Nolan s hat-trick, which featured his now famous called-shot third goal against Goaltender Dominik Hasek. The Sharks had five defensemen record 20+ points each in a season for the first time in team history: Brent Burns 67, Justin Braun 33, Marc-Edouard Vlasic 32, Brenden Dillon 22, Dylan DeMelo 20. The Sharks finished the season with 45 wins, the ninth time Team Teal has reached that marker since Only the Pittsburgh Penguins (10) have recorded more 45-win seasons in that span. The Sharks had five players age 25 or younger with 10+ goals and 30+ points each this season. They had no such players last season. Top-10 Team Rankings: Goals against: 226 (T-9th) Penalty kill: 84.8 (2nd) Shots per game: 33.0 (T-8th) Shots against per game: 30.3 (6th) Faceoff winning percentage: 51.2 (9th) Penalties taken: 265 (3rd) Blocked shots: 1,381 (1st) Takeaways: 710 (5th) Points percentage when leading after 1: (9th) Points percentage when leading after 2: (9th) Wins when trailing after 1: (T-2nd) INDIVIDUAL NOTES: Brent Burns led San Jose in points for the second consecutive season, joining Ottawa s Erik Karlsson as the ony two defensemen in the League to lead their team in points (Karlsson was tied). In the process, his career-high 55 assists set a Sharks franchise record for most assists by a defenseman in a single seaon. Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson reached the 1,100 games plateau on 3/10 vs. WSH. Since Wilson was named GM of Team Teal in 2003, no other NHL team has as many wins (635) or a higher points percentage (63.0%), and only the Pittsburgh Penguins have appeared in more Stanley Cup Playoff rounds (27) than San Jose (25). Joe Pavelski reached the 20-goal plateau again this season, the ninth time in the last ten seasons (includes the shortened season). He is one of just 10 players to have posted nine or more 20-goal seasons since San Jose Sharks Postseason Guide 5

7 Logan Couture scored a career-high 34 goals. Drafted in 2007, Couture is one of six players from his draft class to reach the 30-goal plateau in a season (Jamie Benn, Patrick Kane, Max Pacioretty, Wayne Simmonds, James van Riemsdyk). Martin Jones won his 30th game of the season on 4/5 vs. COL. He has reached the 30-win plateau in each of his three campaigns with San Jose. Since he came to San Jose before the season, only five goaltenders have registered 30+ wins in all three seasons (Devan Dubnyk, Braden Holtby, Martin Jones, Tuukka Rask, Pekka Rinne). Sharks Center Joe Thornton was selected as the 2018 nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. The Masterton Trophy is awarded each season under the trusteeship of the PHWA to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Brent Burns was named to the 2018 NHL All-Star Game, his fourth consecutive appearance in the League s showcase. In , San Jose s top four goal scorers (Pavelski, Burns, Marleau, Couture) accounted for 50.2% (110) of the Sharks total goals scored (219), and held an average age of This season, San Jose s top four goal scorers (Couture, Kane, Hertl, Pavelski) accounted for 40% (107 goals, including Kane) of San Jose s total goals scored (267, adding in Kane s 20 previous), and hold an average age of 27.8 In , the Sharks had 13 players with 20 or more points, and had 15 players reach the 20-point plateau this year (including Kane). In addition, San Jose had nine players with ten or more goals scored in This season, San Jose had 12 skaters with double-digit tallies. Tomas Hertl, Kevin Labanc, Chris Tierney, Joonas Donskoi and Timo Meier all tied or surpassed their goal and point totals from last season. The five forwards totaled 85 goals and 194 points this season, more than doubling their combined numbers through last season (38 goals and 88 points). Joe Pavelski scored his 300th career NHL goal on 12/2 at Florida, against Roberto Luongo. He became just the second player in franchise history to tally 300 goals with the Sharks, joining Patrick Marleau. He is the sixth member of the 2003 draft class to reach this plateau. Additionally, he became only the second player since 1999 drafted outside of the first round to reach the 300-goal plateau, joining Henrik Zetterberg (7th round, 210th overall). Finally, Pavelski is only the fourth player selected 200 or later in the history of the NHL draft to reach the 300 goal plateau, joining Dave Taylor, Henrik Zetterberg and Pavol Demitra. Martin Jones earned his 100th career NHL win on 12/23 vs. Los Angeles, earning his first career shutout against his old team in the process. Jones became the fourth active undrafted goaltender to reach the 100-win mark, and just the 13th draft eligible goaltender that has gone undrafted since the NHL introduced the universal draft in 1969 to reach 100 wins (courtesy of Elias Sports Bureau). Peter DeBoer recorded his 100th win with the Sharks on 11/4 vs. ANA, becoming just the fourth head coach in Sharks history to reach the 100-win plateau. He joins Todd McLellan, Ron Wilson and Darryl Sutter in the 100-win club with San Jose, and this is the third team DeBoer has recorded 100 or more wins with (Florida/New Jersey). In addition to the team record, Ryan s nine blocked shots also set an NHL record for most blocked shots by a rookie skater in a single game. The previous high of eight was recorded 13 times, with Winnipeg s Julian Melchiori the last to accomplish the feat (3/24/17 vs. Anaheim).
