San Jose has gone 6-- in its last seven home openers (with that one loss coming in overtime against Columbus in Stockholm, Sweden as a part of the - NHL Premiere series). San Jose s last regulation loss in its home opener came against Boston on Oct. 3, 7 (- loss). FOWL PLAY The Sharks went 4-- last season against Anaheim, and Team Teal is currently riding a seven-game home winning streak against the Ducks. San Jose s last loss to Anaheim on home ice was March 9, (5-3 loss). QUICK LEADER Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic (67 games) needs to play in just one game to pass longtime Sharks blueliner Mike Rathje (67 games) for the most games played by a defenseman in Sharks franchise history. Vlasic is just 8 years old and has played in every game of a season four times in his career. DONSKOI DEBUT Sharks rookie Joonas Donskoi made his NHL debut on Oct. 7 at Los Angeles, and scored his first NHL goal in the process. He became the fourth player in Sharks history to score a goal while making his NHL debut in a season opener. The first three to do so: Marcus Ragnarsson (/7/95 vs. CHI), Brad Stuart (//99 vs. CGY), Milan Michalek (/9/3 at EDM). Donskoi also became the second player in Sharks history to earn a plus-3 rating in his NHL debut, joining Sandis Ozolinsh (Oct. 8, 99). Tonight marks Peter DeBoer s first regular season home game behind the bench for San Jose. DeBoer earned the win in the season opener on Oct. 7 at Los Angeles, pushing his record to 4-4- in season openers during his coaching career. His teams have started the season on the road in seven of his first eight seasons. CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN The Sharks named Joe Pavelski the team s ninth full-time captain in team history. Pavelski joins Doug Wilson (99-93), Bob Errey (993-95), Jeff Odgers (995-96), Todd Gill (996-98), Owen Nolan (998-3), Patrick Marleau (4-9), Rob Blake (9-) and Joe Thornton (-4) on the list of full-time captains in Sharks history, and is the first American-born captain in franchise history. 5 YEARS OF SHARKS HOCKEY The Sharks are celebrating their 5 th Anniversary in the 5-6 season. All season long, San Jose will be paying tribute to their franchise history in Silicon Valley, bringing in various alumni and special guests throughout the season. Scott Thornton Night CLOSE TO HOME The Sharks American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate will play their home games at SAP Center this season, as the San Jose Barracuda played their inaugural game on Oct. 9. The Barracuda, formerly the Worcester Sharks, moved to California this past offseason as a part of the AHL s new Pacific Division. Oakland, CA, native Roy Sommer is behind the bench as the Head Coach of the Barracuda. NEW FACES Several new Sharks made their San Jose debuts on Oct. 7 at Los Angeles. Newcomers Martin Jones, Paul Martin and Joel Ward made their Sharks debuts, while youngster Joonas Donskoi made his NHL debut. Rookie Dylan DeMelo is poised to make his NHL debut in his next NHL game. In addition, the Sharks Opening Night roster included nine different players than San Jose s Opening Night roster from 3-4 (DeMelo, Dillon, Donskoi, Goodrow, Jones, Martin, Smith, Tennyson, Ward). OPEN FOR BUSINESS Since the 6-7 season, the Sharks have gone 8-- in season openers, going 4-- on the road in that span. This season marked the th time in Sharks history that the team has opened the season on the road (3 times at home). The

9 Sharks currently own the longest active winning streak in NHL season openers (six games), dating back to the - season. CLIMBING THE LADDER Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau are both climbing up the NHL s all-time leader boards in a couple key categories. Marleau currently sits at 456 goals, which ranks T-55 th on the NHL s all-time goals scored list. Thornton is currently 8 th in NHL history for assists (9). FROZEN MOMENTS On this date in Sharks history (Oct., 99): Brian Mullen scores the first short-handed goal in franchise history during a 5-4 loss to Winnipeg at the Cow Palace.
