Ice Permits To book birthday parties and special events call: West Region: Titti Dunn Central Region: Agnes Lai East Region: Elvie Binola Permit Group Holders For all outside community organizations such as hockey groups, leagues, associations, and community groups that permit or use Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation rinks/arenas that are not supervised by City staff, are to abide by their organization s guidelines and policies as they relate to the use of helmets. However, Parks, Forestry and Recreation highly recommends the use of CSA approved hockey helmets for all players/skaters while on the ice. For bookings by companies or private individuals, such as birthday parties and special events, children under the age of six are required to wear a CSA approved hockey helmet while on the ice. All participants, regardless of age, while playing or supervising hockey type activities in an arena or rink must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet when on the ice. Job Opportunities There are many job opportunities for youth who know how to skate to become skating staff for the City of Toronto. Positions available include: skating instructor, marshal, guard and/or coordinator. Potential employees must pass a police reference check and have a valid emergency first aid certificate. FREE for all ages Adult Only Skate.... $3 indoor supervised arenas, FREE outdoor rinks Note: When older adults attend adult only skate programs, they pay half the fee. Leisure Skating Programs Parent/Caregiver & Tot Skate (adults & children under 6 yrs) Parents/caregiver and children skate together and practice skating skills in an enjoyable slower-paced environment. Youth/Teen Skate (13-18 yrs) Adult Skate Older Adult Skate (60 yrs+) With appropriate music and activities. (children & youth under 19 yrs) an adult must accompany For families who want to skate together an ideal program for children and youth who are learning to skate and need to skate in a slower-paced environment, or with the assistance of an adult. Parents and guardians must remain in the arena and assume full responsibility for children under their supervision. Adults are welcome to skate during family skate. The concept of shinny hockey is that the puck is not raised off the ice. Goalies may not always be available. Body Contact is not permitted. Equipment required is a CSA hockey helmet, gloves and a stick. Full equipment is recommended. The program may or may not be directly supervised. If supervised, staff will help divide players into teams for a friendly game. Shinny programs are arranged by a variety of ages or gender specific. Please refer to the schedule to ensure the appropriate program. LIABILITY STATEMENT I recognize that a risk of injury or potential health risk may be involved in participation in the above-named program/activity. I hereby willingly assume such risk of injury or health risk for myself or for the above named person for whom I am in law responsible and assume full responsibility during and after my/their participation in the program. 3 Other Information What to Wear Proper fitting lace-up single blade skates are required. Bobskates, double bladed skates and speed skates will not be permitted on the ice. The rule of thumb for purchasing skates is one size smaller than shoe size. New skates do not come sharpened and will require sharpening prior to the first class. Shoes are not to be worn on the ice. Attendance Limits For safety reasons, when arenas and rinks reach their maximum attendance, staff will not allow any more skaters on the ice. Assistive Devices Call the facility to see what skating devices are allowed during Leisure Skate programs. No homemade assistive devices are allowed on the ice at any time. Inclusion and Support Equipment: Sledges New and improved sledges are now available in some facilities. These adapted skating devices make our arenas accessible for persons with a disability. Please book your sledge in advance by calling the North York District representative at Holiday Skating Schedule December Break... December 21, 2009-January 3, 2010 March Break... March 15-19, 2010 Coming to an arena/rink near you! Extra leisure skate programs are scheduled at selected locations over school holidays.
