The second period was all Stettler, as they outshot Three Hills 23-5 and notched four goals to take a commanding 5-1 lead into the final frame.

Klay Munro made some spectacular saves to keep the score respectable. On Saturday night, the Thrashers hosted the Airdrie Thunder for their home opener.

However, just two minutes later Airdrie scored a powerplay goal of their own to take a 2-1 lead after the first period.

On Friday night the team travelled to Stettler to face the Lightning. The hometown fans were not even seated when Dylan Houston brought them to their feet and gave the Lightning the lead just 39 seconds into the game. The Thrashers responded with a goal on the powerplay, midway through the period, by rookie Cooper Cheshire. The second period was all Stettler, as they outshot Three Hills 23-5 and notched four goals to take a commanding 5-1 lead into the final frame. Though Ryan Spiller scored another powerplay goal for the Thrashers in the third period, it was not nearly enough as Stettler earned a 5-2 victory. Klay Munro made some spectacular saves to keep the score respectable. On Saturday night, the Thrashers hosted the Airdrie Thunder for their home opener. After the Thunder opened the scoring less than five minutes into action, the Thrashers Carter Conway tied the score for Three Hills, taking advantage of a 5-on-3 powerplay. However, just two minutes later Airdrie scored a powerplay goal of their own to take a 2-1 lead after the first period. The Thrashers scored the only goal of the second period as Derek Samoleski notched his first goal of the regular season. Unfortunately, the third period was all Airdrie as they outshot the Thrashers 24-4 and outscored them 3-0 to capture a 5-2 victory. Klay Munro was again excellent in the Three Hills goal stopping 56 shots in the loss. Though obviously not happy with two losses on opening weekend, Coach Hall is working to maintain a positive attitude among the team. With 12 rookies in the lineup, we know it is going to take some time to come together and get where we want to be. Nonetheless, our mantra in the dressing room is to stay positive through the process, getting better each and every game, and we will get where we want to be. Although Munro did have to make many fantastic saves in the two games, the reality is the Thrashers had one bad period in each game that turned the tide from a tie to a loss. The Thrashers hope to claim their first win of the season on Saturday night (September 29) as they host the High River Flyers at Centennial Arena. Game time is 8:00 pm.
