8 THE IRON MAN Jason Pominville enters tonight s game as the team s active leader in consecutive games played at 254 the eighth-longest active streak in the NHL. Calgary s Jay Bouwmeester is the NHL leader. Pominville has played in all 82 games in each of the last three seasons, and hasn t missed a game since being a healthy scratch vs. Philadelphia on April 7, MYERS SCORES HIS FIRST PROFESSIONAL POINT Rookie defenseman Tyler Myers registered his first NHL point (assist) on Oct. 8 against Phoenix. Myers became the 19 th teenager to play for the Sabres in a season opener on Oct. 3. Myers was Buffalo s first selection (13 th overall) in the 2008 Entry Draft. At 19 years and 245 days old, Myers is tied with Lee Fogolin (Oct. 10/74) as the 16 th youngest player to suit up in a season opener for Buffalo. (There have been 23 teenagers in total, with five players doing it twice) Right ahead of Myers and Fogolin are Shawn Anderson (19, 243 days on 10/8/87) and Lindy Ruff (19, 236 on 10/11/1979). The youngest player to suit up in an opener for Buffalo was Pierre Turgeon (18, 41) on Oct. 8. SCHEDULE BREAKDOWN Buffalo opens the season this month playing five of their first six games at home. October is actually Buffalo s lightest full month of the season, as they will play just 11 games (6 home/5 road) in 31 days. March is the team s busiest month, with 16 games (8/8) in 31 days. November finds the Sabres playing three games in four nights in four consecutive weeks, as they will play every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
