1 BIG NICKEL MAJOR AAA INTERNATIONAL HOCKEY TOURNAMENT Sudbury, Ontario, Canada To All Team Staff: On behalf of the Big Nickel Major AAA Hockey Tournament Organizing Committee, it gives me great pleasure to offer your hockey club formal acceptance into our 24th edition this year. As in previous years, the Big Nickel offers a refund (this year $50.00) on the registration fee to all teams that successfully complete the following: (a) By Friday, September 26th: Complete Team Roster including jersey numbers, positions, list of team officials, dates of birth, heights and weights (Bantam & Midget teams only) (b) By Wednesday, October 22nd: A copy of your Association-Approved players and team staff cards, as well as a copy of your tournament sanction permit (by mail or courier only no faxes please). If all documents are received as indicated, a refund cheque will be included in your team registration package. If pre-registering is not possible, teams will be required to bring a copy of the documents in item (b) to Countryside Arena, Tournament Headquarters, before the first tournament game is played. WHETHER OR NOT PRE-REGISTRATION HAS TAKEN PLACE, ALL TEAM REGISTRATION WILL TAKE PLACE AT COUNTRYSIDE THIS YEAR. A map of the Region of Sudbury, the Official Tournament Schedule, Draw and the Rules and Regulations are enclosed. By now, you should have contacted Hudson Travel to advise them of your accommodation needs. If you are running into any difficulty in this regard, contact the Big Nickel Tournament office at (705) , and we ll offer any help we can. 7 1. Hockey Canada, Northern Ontario Hockey Association and Big Nickel Tournament Rules will be in effect. ELIGIBILITY: Peewee> all boys or girls born on or after January 1st, 1991 Bantam> all boys or girls born on or after January 1st, 1989 Midget> all boys or girls born on or after January 1st, Only those players registered with the Tournament Committee before the Tournament begins are eligible to play for their respective teams. Player cards must be available at all games. Affiliated players from teams at a lower division of play may play for the higher division team, after the team at the lower level has been eliminated. No player is allowed to play three games in one day, unless there is at least four hours rest between completion of one game and start of the other. 3. LENGTH OF GAMES: Peewee, Bantam, Midget round robin, quarter and semi final games > 3 x 13 stop time Championship Finals > 3 x 15 stop time 4. Round Robin Format - Play Off Structure: PEEWEE > Teams are separated into four divisions of four teams each, within which they complete a round robin format. After round robin play, the first place teams from each of the Sudbury Star and City of Greater Sudbury Divisions will play the second place team from the Science North and Northern Wolves Divisions respectively and vice versa in the quarter final round. The winners of the quarter final round will advance to the semi final round and the winners of the semis advance to the Peewee Championship Final. BANTAM > Teams are separated into seven divisions of four teams each, within which they complete a round robin format. After the round robin, the top two teams from each of the seven divisions, along with two Wildcard teams (the third place teams with the first and second next best records respectively of all teams in the seven divisions over round robin play) will advance to the Round of 16. The first and second place teams from the CIGM Division will play the 2 nd place and 1 st place Wildcard teams respectively, while the first and second place teams of each of the remaining divisions will play against the second and first place teams respectively as follows: Topper s Pizza Division vs SMHA Division Scotiabank Division vs NOHA Division Rogers Division vs Q92 Division The winners of these games will advance to the quarter final round, and the winners of the quarter final round will advance to the semi final round. The winners of the semis will advance to the Bantam Championship final. MIDGET > Teams are separated into six divisions of four teams each, within which they complete a round robin format. After the round robin, the top teams from the Sprite and Canada Dry Divisions, and Powerade and Barq s Divisions will play against each other in two quarter final match-ups, while the first place teams in each of the Diet Coke and Classic Coke Divisions will play against the second place teams with the first and second next best records respectively in any of the six divisions over round robin play. The winners of these quarter final games will advance to the semi finals. The winners of the semis will advance to the Midget Championship final. 5. TIE GAMES: During the Round Robin Series, each team receives one point for a tie. During the play off games, the C.H.A. rule for sudden victory overtime will apply. No removal of players takes place. 6. TIED POSITIONS > In the event that teams are tied for a playoff position after the round robin series is completed, the following will apply in order of priority: (a) If two teams are tied: the winner of the round robin game involving the two tied teams will qualify. If more than two teams are tied, the team with the best record in games between the tied teams will qualify. (b) Team with the most wins qualifies. (c) The team with the best goal average qualifies. The goal average is determined by dividing the total number of "goals for" by the total goals scored, with the team having the highest percentage advancing (ie. 10 goals for, 4 goals against; goal average is 10/14 = 0.714). (d) The team that scored the first goal in the game between the two teams qualifies. (e) If still tied, the team that received the least number of penalty minutes during round robin play will advance. All misconducts, including game and gross misconducts, carry a ten (10) minute recording of time. (f) Single coin toss. 7. DISPUTES AND PROTESTS > All disputes, protests and misunderstandings will be reviewed by the Tournament Committee. The Committee's decisions are FINAL. The Committee reserves the right to take further disciplinary action if deemed necessary. All suspensions will be levied in accordance with the O.H.F. Suspension List. 8. OTHER > All teams must be prepared to play at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled game time.
8 OHF Minimum Suspension List Minor Hockey The following are minimum suspensions that shall be imposed for infractions, which occur in all OHF exhibition, league, and play-off games, during the current playing season for Minor Hockey. Note that these suspensions are over and above any imposed by Hockey Canada rules. Anytime in the 1 st, 2 nd or more 10 min. or less than 10 min. remain. in the 3 rd period Misconducts & Game Misconducts H.C. Rule# the 3 rd period.
