BirthWeights (BW) Birth weight has been identified as the single most influential factor contributing to calving difficulty. In studies of birth weight data, birth weight EPDs have been shown to be the single most accurate genetic predictor of calf birth weight. BW is expressed in pounds of calf at birth and a lower number is desirable. WeaningWeights (WW) and YearlingWeight (YW) EPDs are expressed as the added pounds of weaning and yearling weight of offspring. Milking Ability (MA) A sire s milk EPD is expressed as the additional pounds of weaning weight of calves from daughters (grand-progeny of sire), due to genes for milk passed on from the sire to his daughters.
