1 Duovac milking unit Protects your cows from over-milking

2 Over-milking can cause mastitis Mastitis costs 180/cow The in a milking system has to be strong enough to extract, and then transport, kilos of milk every minute. But what happens when milk stops flowing? With basic milking systems, the full force of the will bear down on the teat until the cluster is removed. Tight sealing of teat opening A teat is a delicate organ. If it s subjected to over levels for too long, the tissues in the teat opening can be become damaged. If this happens, it will not seal properly after milking and this is where the problems begin. Bacteria enters teat canal Cows usually lie down after milking. However, if the teat has not closed as it should, bacteria on the ground can enter the teat canal. This can result in the cow getting mastitis. Infection defence Immunological barrier against germs that have penetrated the udder! Risk of desease Mastitis is recognized as the most costly disease in the dairy industry. It affects milk yield, milk quality and the well-being of cows in severe cases it can result in death. Research conducted by the National Mastitis Council shows that mastitis can lead to a loss of over 180 euros per cow per year, of which 120 euros is due to lost milk yield. The primary cause of udder inflammation is a bacterial infection inside the udder. All mastitis-causing organisms originate from outside the udder of an uninfected cow. After milking, the teat canal remains open for 30 minutes. When bacteria enter the udder through the teat opening (streak canal) they can cause an infection to occur. Vet 9% Medicine 5% Own Labour 8% Milk Not Delivered 12% Cell Count Deduction 2% Danger of germs penetrating Phsyco-chemical barrier of streak canal closure and udder/teat skin Production 22% Culling 42%

3 4 5 A simple and reliable way to protect your cows Flow indicator Duovac reduces levels at the beginning and end of milking to protect the tissues of the teat end. By limiting exposure to over-, the teat opening remains healthy, sealing tightly after milking. This is key to reducing mastitis. Since cows usually lie down after milking, it is essential that the teat opening closes properly in order to reduce the risk of bacteria entering the teat canal. Low level stimulation Normal level milking Low level postmilking Milk tube options When the orange bellow collapses operators can easily see that milk flow has stopped. HP 101 Pneumatic pulsator Carrying handle Cluster parking hook Faster let-down, faster milk-out In addition, because the level is reduced at the start of milking, udders are stimulated, which encourages faster milk let-down and milk-out. Fewer milkers or more cows The natural milk let-down reflex starts between seconds after the udder is stimulated (touch or cleaned), Duovac helps to stimulate natural milk let-down for faster routines. Milking cluster options Don t do it without Duovac!

4 6 The 12 golden rules of milking Before milking There are many factors that affect milk quality. With good milking routines and the correct milking equipment, the risk of new mastitis cases can be significantly reduced. Before milking During milking 1. Monitor udder health regularly Follow the right milking order 3. Always foremilk 4. Clean and/or disinfect teats before milking During milking Sec 5. Check milking 6. Attach milking cluster in time 7. Avoid overmilking 8. Detach milking cluster correctly After milking Disinfect teats immediately 10. Clean/disinfect milking equipment 11. Ensure proper milk cooling 12. Regularly monitor milking results After milking 7
