9 Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi & Ima Famous Babe Top Lance Graves International 5YO Futurity By Tanya Randall Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi s Ima Famous Babe ( Katniss ) was the fleetest futurity horse at the inaugural Lance Graves International Barrel Racing Championships, held Feb at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Okla. Brittany and Katniss topped the $10,000-added 5-Year-Old Futurity with an average that would have topped the $20,000-added BFA 4-Year-Old Futurity as well. I knew she was a nice horse and I knew she would probably do well, but I just didn t know how well, said Brittany. When you go to those futurities, you re still riding colts, so you never know what they re going to do. It s not like I showed up on (her PWBR World Champion) Duke, expecting to win first. You just never know. Everything was just picture perfect on the first run, said Brittany, who is currently residing in Victoria, Texas, during the winter run of rodeos. On the second run, I went to the horn too soon on the first barrel and was going to hit it. I just picked her up and she moved right away from it and shot away to the second barrel. There is one thing about them though they all can run. Now 21, Babe is a resident glamour girl at Royal Vista Southwest in Purcell, Okla. 27 Redemption for Moore & CP Dark Moon at San Angelo By Hope Raley 2x WNFR Qualifier and 2016 WNFR High Money Winner & Reserve Average Champion, Amberleigh Moore, has made 3 trips to the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo, this being her third year. She and her partner in crime CP Dark Moon Paige have shown several instances of brilliance in the west Texas town, but have never left with a championship. That was, until, this year. Moore and Paige closed a chapter in their book after they were crowned the 2018 San Angelo Barrel Racing Champions. I am so grateful and happy that we were fortunate to win the whole rodeo this year, explained Moore. We have won the second round before and have come back to the short round with a good lead, but a knocked barrel cost us the win. Moore is very quick to credit Paige for every win, and explains that it is the 9-year-old brown mares love and passion for running barrels that keeps them consistently in the winners circle. Paige, who is by Darkelly, and out of SRQH New Highs by On A High is the kind of barrel horse that every barrel racer dreams of. Extremely versatile, she can practically win in every type of set-up, which is incredibly handy when you are trying to make the NFR. She truly loves to run barrels, and when we got to San Angelo for our second run, she knew exactly where we were and what we were there for. She about left me in the alley she was so excited to run in that coliseum again. San Angelo s set up is unique compared to most other rodeos, with the first round held in a different barn than the second and third round. The first round at San Angelo is easily comparable to a jackpot, quiet and easy going, said Moore. After the first round, the atmosphere completely changes and we run our second run in a small coliseum that is very loud and packed with fans. With an almost identical run from their second round run, Moore and Paige lit the scoreboard up with a With their total on three being 44.15, Moore finally found herself with her San Angelo Championship. I am so happy we were able to put three great runs together, and I am very blessed to have Paige as my partner in this crazy game, Moore commented. With the winter rodeos in full swing, most road warriors have a little more down time compared to the summer run. Moore keeps Paige feeling her best by keeping it simple. I never work her on the pattern, and I ride her everyday bareback. We got out to the field or pasture and work on equitation. She enjoys that and she likes the simple things, which is nice. While the season is still young, Moore s plan is to follow the same path as the previous two years. She knows which rodeos Paige likes and she knows which rodeos Paige dislikes. I know where our goals are and we are already well on our way for this season.
